Full textIn France and in Quebec, youth literature has been neglected for a long time by the secondary teachers or discorded from french lessons. Nevertheless, in 1996, it appeared in ministerial lists exclusively dedicated to it and intended to the high school teachers. One year before, the Quebec teachers were invited to include it in reading practices. It has been considered as a matter for pupils’ personal reading. The aim of this research is to identify youth literature works that have been selected for French and Quebec secondary teaching, then to know the purposes given by the teachers and their pedagogical practices when they introduce it in their classes. The first part relates the history of youth literature through the first teaching aids’ one, created to teach, to educate or to entertain children in the different places that are opened to them (periodicals and various books). The second part is about the place that the secondary teaching gave to youth literature, in its different programs. At last, the third part moves on the texts for the youth and the practices that nowadays teachers propose to their pupils. Our research belongs to the sphere of French language didactics and affects the specific fields of literature and reading didactics. It has a descriptive purpose and it asks questions to fixed corpus, intended to teachers (official instructions, reading notes and documents extracted from pedagogical reviews), in a diachronic and synchronic view

Full textIn the conjunction between the research works of the theorists of the literary reading and the educational specialists which elaborated the concept " of subject reader " and the programs for the French school of 2002, which introduced the literature and recognized the role of the reception, opens a field on the place and the formation of the reader at school. We made our subject of research, confined in the connection between two symbolic classes: the primary and secondary school. A first working axis consisted in leading an investigation on the reader through the official texts. So, we were able to establish that when they speak about the reader, it is mostly according to an ideal, what makes it an authority forged by representations and ideological movements more than an embodiment of particular individuals. This "school" reader is not the common, real reader. Secondly, we approached the question of the reader on the theoretical and didactic plans to encircle more exactly what we can understand by "real reader", and we ended in a double meaning of a word, that of a real, settled reader as theorized, and that of an empirical reader, who is concretely embodied, in competition with the school reader. This research work ended, in the third time, in the elaboration of didactic steps susceptible to take into account the interactions between these three readers' postures. We deducted several interests from it: so the pupil is formed as much by the reading as in the reading in a reflexive act where he confides, himself, at the same time as he discovers the work. They are so many tracks for the formation of the teachers

Full textCan reading literature be viewed as problem building and can it help high-school students get involved in encountering, getting familiar with, written works and acquiring critical skills? This is what this doctoral research defends within the theoretical framework of problematization (Fabre, Orange) and in the perspective of the theory of the subjective reader. This research first questions the presence of the paradign of the problem in the field of teaching French along with its links with the current methods of literature reading in high school: what does setting a problem about a text mean and is there a specific way to problematize one’s thinking in the field of Literature studies? It assumes that the problem-building process may be a relevant method of reconfiguring the text by the student, and that it may shed light on the links between subjective impressions and objectifying reading. This work then puts this hypothesis to the test. With the help of recordings of class activities at Première and Seconde levels and post-lesson interviews of students and teachers, it analyses students’ language interactions using problematization’s lozenge and provides elements likely to generate the activity of problematization as well as certain prerequisites to its triggering student involvement and the development of literary reading skills. Finally it analyses a survey carried out with French departments in two schools experimenting on how they guide students through their encounter of texts, and offers a few recommendations, particularly as to adopting an ethical approach, training teachers and anchoring written works in the students’ memory

Full textOur doctoral research focuses on the training of French Teacher readers (SLE) subjects in secondary school in Gabon. Due to the introduction of the methodical reading in the official instructions in Gabon in the ’90s, the teaching of literary reading remains organized around activities that obscuring the reader’s subjectivity. Yet many educationalists argue that any reading is subjective (Rouxel and Langlade 2004 ; Louichon 2011 ; Sauvaire, 2013), and that the involvement of the reader would stimulate personal reactions and plural readings. In the continuity of recent work on literary reading, particularly on the training of readers (Mazauric, Fourtainier and Langlade, 2011 ; Émery-Bruneau, 2013 ; Ahr, 2014 ; Sauvaire, 2015), and following the overview of French teaching in Gabon that we have established (Abeme Ndong, 2015), we defend the idea that training of future French Teachers (FEF) in literary reading would be a prerequisite for taking into account of subjectivity of students readers. Our research is based on an experiment to integrate literary reading in the training of future secondary French Teachers at the Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) of Libreville in Gabon. We believe that initiating the FEF to literary reading enables generating personal and varied readings leading to an interpretation of the literary reading text. It should, however, be noted that the difficulty lies in the fact that in Gabon the influence of the structuralist school on teaching of literature still prevails. Thus, given in lectures, the methodical reading focuses on learning the tools of text studied analysis, without a real participation of the readers. The teaching of literary reading boils down to the construction of a unique meaning by the Teacher (Duquesne, 1993 ; Langlade, 2004a). We designed an educational device to combine the structural analysis knowledge of the texts that the future teachers possess with the current didactic approaches to subjective reading. This training research was conducted as follows: First, we designed a teaching device for a collection of poems based on individual readings of texts and their interpretations by the FEF in collaborative activities. Second, we conducted our experiment with a FEF class from ENS in Gabon. This mechanism should bring the FEF by a back and forth between the texts and the readers, to enrich each other and to promote a reflexive posture (Bucheton...

The audience of students we are targeting is the students of bacalaureate who will provide us with their perceptions on litterature and novels that they like and those that they dislike

Full textAfter investigating the place of poetry in the current field of literary genres and clarifying what educational institutions expect from poetry, this thesis analyses three types of phenomenological traces of poetry reading : that of secondary school pupils, that of three contemporary poets A. Du Bouchet, Ph. Jaccottet, S. Stetie, and that of the teacher engaged in this research, using the experimental method of self-reading. In all three cases, poetry aims to reveal the reality and immediacy of the text through a unique amalgamation of rhythms, images, language and sounds. Poetry questions the building blocks of language and meaning through the senses: the imagination and delivery of the reader bring about a committed experience. The reading creates the poem because it is through this reading that the poem comes to life, through performance, in the reader’s voice. The reading reveals meaning which is not complete or predetermined, but inaugural. It must also be said that there are stages and setbacks in the reading and that the ideal reader does not exist. Poetry texts demonstrate processes of poetry reading such as narrativization, metaphorisation, axiologic investment. They also make us think of alternative ways of reading from the usual school recitations. The aim is therefore to awaken a poetic polyphony and to bring to life new meanings in terms of emotions and symbols, associations and group readings. In the future the teaching of poetry would no longer be restricted to the passing on of literary prototypes and the testing of skills. The event of poetry reading should awaken in young people the various pleasures of the poetic text

Full textThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the measurement characteristics of the formative assessment tool whose objective is to assess the competence to read and understand a variety of french texts in Quebec secondary school. For this purpose, an assessment tool consisting of thirteen items has been developed and a test of this tool has been conducted among six hundred and two (n = 602) students of the first cycle of secondary school in four school boards of the regions of Quebec City, Portneuf and Shawinigan. The analysis show that twelve out of the thirteen items of the assessment tool, have an acceptable discrimination parameter and an acceptable level of ease and should be kept in the tool. An item has a level of discrimination found not acceptable and should therefore be reviewed, including the evaluation grid. These results demonstrate that the formative assessment tool developed is promising considering measurement characteristics it has shown.

Full textIn this thesis, we suggest an understanding of academic and extra-academic reading in teenage years. Through reading sociology, education sociology and socialization sociology, we study the practical construction of reading habits (texts that are read, ways of readings, individual or collective conditions of reading) and how they are put into practice in different contexts. We show that actual reading results from a conjunction of made-up reading habits and reading promptings (advice, reading relationships, handed-over texts, academic exercises, and so on). So we explain some difficulties of academic reading and throw light on different reading expectations that secondary school pupils have. For this research, we met 77 boys and girls from secondary school with different social origins and schoolings. We interviewed them thoroughly about their academic and extra-academic reading, past and present reading relationship, library frequentation habits, and so on. We collected some of their French papers, attended their literature classes, met their teachers and analysed the official instructions too. For thesis’s demonstration, we developed an analysis in three points: we study the construction of reading habits from childhood to secondary school; we analyze contextual promptings, with a focus on secondary school; we explore the reactions of readers to different contextual promptings, and the intra-individual variations of reading from reading contexts. Actually, through the writing of the thesis, we suggest that methodological and theoretical orientations are indissociable in scientific work and we defend the presentation of scientific equipments

Full textSchools must ensure the development of a scientific culture for all students and the development of those who intend to pursue a scientific career. The high scores obtained by Canadian students in international surveys such as the Program for International Students Assessment (PISA) reflect the quality of compulsory science education in Canada. Despite the good results, there has been a decline in motivation to learn science among high school youth in Canada. Traditional teacher-centred practices are partly responsible for this decline, although the curricula emphasize pedagogical practices focused on scientific inquiry. This study explores the contribution of motivation to the relationship between teaching practices and performance in science using a theoretical model based on self-determination theory. The verification of the model across provinces and gender is done using a path analysis. This secondary analysis of data from PISA 2015 involves a sample of 20,058 15-year-old Canadian students’ representative of the 10 Canadian provinces. The results show that the motivational variables contribute moderately to the relationship between inquiry teaching practices focusing on relevance to everyday applications and performance, but little influence on the relationships involving traditional practices and open inquiry practices. Inquiry practices have a strong negative effect on science performance. The configural invariance of the model across provinces and gender is demonstrated, as well as the partial metric invariance of the model with respect to gender. This study challenges the operational conceptualization of inquiry teaching practices used by PISA and contributes to a better understanding of the science learning environment for 15-year-old students in Canada.

Full textThis study was aimed to specify the reading levels at the beginning of secondary school. It uses data collected in September 1997 by "la Direction de l'Evaluation et de la Prospective" (Ministère de l'Education Nationale) based upon the national evaluation of French language proficiency and a reading evaluation test with 2594 sixth grade pupils. A sample of 52 adult students skilled readers also took the reading evaluation. The analysis showed important individual differences within the sixth graders sample. Out of them, 29 % are good readers but lack the reading proficiency of the adult readers. Upon entering sixth grade, the pupil cannot therefore be considered a skilled reader. However, 10 % of these pupils have both major reading difficulties and a low level of reading comprehension

Full textAlthough French is one of the three national languages of the Seychelles, it remains the least mastered and the least practised by the population. In secondary schools, in particular, the teaching practices are not always consistent to the ministerial requirements. In fact, we have noticed that even though the reading of literary texts is included in the French program, it is not taught in schools. Yet, it could contribute to the learning of French by Seychellois students. In this master’s thesis, we explore the roles of children’s literature in the teaching of French as a foreign language. Considering the level of students’ competency in French and the absence of the literary corpus in the secondary schools’ program, we have decided to work from an album (picture book) with the aim of developing reading comprehension and lexical competence of first year secondary school students of the Seychelles. Far from being a simple book with pictures, the album is more and more used with older children (Giasson, 2014). It is thus for that reason that we think that this literary genre could arouse the reading interest of students. We have chosen the explicit teaching approach to develop a teaching sequence as it is an effective teaching method that prioritises students’ comprehension (Gauthier, Bissonnette & Richard, 2013). Through this teaching sequence, we present to teachers different types of activities to articulate the teaching of reading comprehension to the teaching of lexicon.

Full textNowadays, the traditional cornerstone of studying literature – the reading of heritage works - is becoming a challenge for teachers, particularly those working in high schools with pupils aged from 15 to 18. The development of digital technologies and the exponential growth of social media has generated new multimodal writing and reading practices which combine images, sound, text, icons, etc. Indeed, for many people, the omnipresence of multimodal, digital literacy in cultural practices has motivated changes in their relationship to literature and culture and radically transformed reading and writing practices. This development has heightened the already apparent disconnect between school reading programs, concentrating on classical literature, and the private cultural practices of schooled teenagers. At the same time, the curriculum at secondary level invites teachers to articulate the study of literature with education for media and digital literacy. Innovation is encouraged. However, researchers have only recently started to investigate the effects of using digital media on literary reading. Drawing on research into the reader as subject, from the field of the didactics of literature, and research into multimodal digital and media literacy, this thesis asks what form teaching the reading of literary classics could take in this digital, multimedia age.In order to respond to this question, this thesis explores the hypothesis that a teaching protocol which takes into account the private cultural practices of the students, by giving a place within the learning to multimodal media, is likely to favour student implication in reading the classics and their appropriation of them. This qualitative study involved four different classes of students aged between 15 and 18. Each class participated in three teaching sequences which combined the use of multimodal, digital media with more traditional activities.Through analysis of a mixed corpus of traditional student writing, multimodal writing, filmed presentations, questionnaires and interviews, this study aims to provide a comprehensive, in-depth description of the path taken by twelve readers. The results confirm that employing a teaching protocol incorporating digital, multimodal media favours reader implication, appropriation of the reading and the expression of subjectivity. The results also highlight the importance of exchanges between readers, the role of interactions within the teaching sequence, and the pertinence of broadening the spaces and timeframes beyond the classroom which opens up a place for subjective expression. The analysis reveals a relatively varied level of mastery of multimodal, digital media by the pupils involved in the study, which confirms the importance of rational, systematic education in this domain

Full textThis work envisages the pathways of the secondary and university education as authorities of socialization which direct the reading practices of their public on the basis of their previous socialization. The comparative survey between several levels - college, high school, university - and education pathways - literary, economic, scientific and technical - allows characterizing the evolution of the reading practices as the pupils move forward in their school route and the role played by the pathways in this process. So it is shown how the differentiation of the frames of socialization established by the pathways is the origin of that of the social uses of the reading. The analysis of the collected materials opens with the examination of the uses of the reading to the middle school. How to characterize these uses? What do they owe to the "effect of age"? To the social and school profile of the pupils? To the specificities of the environment of school socialization? This panorama allows showing their evolution at the high school and at the university, as well as their differentiation according to the pathways. We will show then what the influencing effect of the pathways owes to the previous socialization of the pupils. We will establish, for every education pathway, ideal models of socialization in the reading that will allow understanding better such or such uses. Finally, we will characterize the adjustment more or less adequately realized between these uses and the disciplinary requirements. These modalities depend on the affinity between previous socialization and school requirements

Full textThe main purpose of this thesis is to analyze the potential contribution of certain work conditions of the parents on the family and, ultimately, on the psychological well-being and educational success of young Canadians. Young people refer to the cohort aged 12-15, who typically attend High school. This project is from the large sample of Canadian data from the NLSCY - the national longitudinal survey of children and youth - Statistics Canada. The themes identified in this study are at the heart of current social issues. It is now recognized that educational success represents major social concerns giving rise to large mobilizations. Family remains an anchor point in the development of young people and their success. On the other side, it is clear that the work world has profound impacts, which affect the psychological health of workers and, consequently, the harmonization of work and family. Thus, the difficulty of balancing work and family can have an impact on the psychological well-being of the parents and, incidentally, can negatively affect family dynamics, well-being and educational success of young people. This thesis aims to understand the impacts of the work of parents on the family and on their children in adolescence. Specifically, the purpose of this project is to acquire of a better understanding of the dynamics between work, parental conditions, psychological well-being or educational success, in order to develop an explanatory framework based on a multidimensional model. This study, based on multivariate context, relies on the ecological perspective of human development proposed by Bronfenbrenner (1979). The model used for this study highlights factors in interaction that characterize different environments in which adolescents are living. The scientific writings allowed identifying an empirical model that provides a relational structure of those factors. Few studies to date have attempted to integrate all of these factors in a model. The results of this project can help guide the development of preventive strategies and the promotion of intervention programs, both in the field of education and management. The proposed model assumes an influence of parental work conditions on family environment (family functioning, psychological well-being of the parents or parenting), which, in turn, impacts on the psychological well-being of adolescents or their educational success. The variables included in this model were selected on the basis of empirical support in the scientific literature. The data come from the large sample of NLSCY, which was designed to collect detailed information on the factors that affect the cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the behavior of children and young people. Structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed model. The main results of this thesis are presented in the form of articles. Structural equations model analysis allowed validating the adequacy of the postulated model, which suggests a chain of associations in which the parents work appears to contribute indirectly, through family dynamics, to the psychological well-being or educational success of adolescent.

Full textOur thesis aims to feed the debate about the place of computer science and propaedeutic aspects in the curriculum of the general education syllabus. Citizenship is a founding concept of number of educational systems goals, particularly so in France. We focused our study on the concept of citizenship - Why and how the study of computer science in high school contributes to the learning of a certain form of citizenship throughout the student's high school career. The term "citizenship" used means by being largely polysemous. Therefore, it is appropriate to analyse the typology of the different registers before making a conceptual framework. Our initial approach highlights the citizen components of two complementary approaches. The first one is issued of Condorcet and an universal enlightened citizenship. The second is based on the French B2i and the common core of knowledge in their direct relation to education of a modern citizenship at French school. This targeted typological approach suggests a form of "digital" citizenship expanded to a "MetaCitoyen" (Kolesnikov 2014). Our study analyses three contrasting educational systems : France, Israel and Canada (Quebec). Education appears as one of the strong indicators of "enlightened citizenship" in many scientific publications. On average in OECD countries, there is a civic and social engagement (ECS) higher among educated individuals (Putnam 2000) ; (OCDE 2007; OCDE 2010). Understanding the world in which we are living and the challenges of the society in charge of its management are central to civic reflection. Our research aims to identify the salient points of each system, any tensions and their impact on the "citizenship construction" of the individual. The comparative results should confirm our reflections about the relevance of the role of computer science in the educational curricula of secondary school education

Full textAppropriating literary works for year 11 / 10th grade french students Here, appropriation metaphorically refers to the process by which readers make a literary work their own. The expression also refers to the result of this process: the inscription and expansion of the work within each individual memory. The active participation of each reader is required throughout the hermeneutical process, from the open mindset needed to absorb a new reading until the point when it becomes registered in one’s “interior library”. Appropriation can be regarded as the final step of the reading process and the vanishing point of any analysis on the way literature is perceived and received. Personal appropriation of literary works by students is at the backdrop of any curriculum for teaching French and all research in didactics of literature. Maybe it should be granted more emphasis than it is in the French school system today, particularly in year 11 / 10th grade. This is my thesis statement, in the light of modern research on the reader as a subject. I shall first consider the notion of appropriation from the point of view of modern hermeneutics and reception theories, in compliance with the French official educational standards, and define the discursive spaces where appropriation of literary works occurs. I shall then analyze the findings of an exploratory research carried out in a number of year 11 / 10th grade classes: students were submitted to five successive experiments which placed them in the position of subject readers, within the story of a specific and individual relationship to literature. The findings are interpreted in two main axes. First, leaving room for a personal encounter between students and literary works during lessons permits to successfully address a number of current issues on the transmission of literature. Then, I consider several hypotheses concerning the appropriation process in class, more particularly, the link between subjective impressions, more objective readings and the acquisition of the expected academic standards, but also the acquisition of an ethical posture and the inscription of the works in students’ memories. I shall finally examine the pedagogical changes implied by such an approach in the management of class participation, of timing; in the positioning of the teacher and the learning strategies developed by students

Full textThis research leans on two major considerations: the importance of French, particularly written French, for Algerian high school students, and the high failure rate for the written French exam for the high school diploma. As many pupils are supposed to read in French at university, it is crucial to prepare them, during high school, to possess the necessary skills to understand written comprehension. This thesis investigates the capacity of a group of high school students to read thoroughly, varied French texts, with the objective to construct meaning in an autonomous way and it is by means of using the strategy of questioning. The principal hypothesis is that these pupils fail in reading because they were not taught to question texts. This central hypothesis generates two sub-hypotheses. At first, in order for pupils to reach this zone of development, rarely required (knowing how to question autonomously), the support of this strategy by the teacher proves to be unavoidable. It is with inter-questioning that the pupils learn intra-questioning. This change of representation in the act of reading leads to a reflection that, in turn, develops the meta-cognitive activity. As such this research is theoretically anchored no a determinedly socio-constructivist perspective. On the methodological plan, this research is incorporated in an experimental didactic perspective. Two groups, the one experimental and the other, the control, participated in a class experiment. The pupils of both groups were invited to question the same texts in an interpretative way, on implicit and on essential information. Two tests; the one extracted from PISA 2000 and the other one we created called" synthetic questioning " constituted a pre-test and a comment-test to verify the level of both classes in understanding written comprehension (especially in thorough comprehension) and it before and after to the experiment. This was realized further to a preliminary extensive investigation concerning the representations of reading-comprehension and establishing a foreground in the teaching - learning context in Algerian high schools. 44 teachers and 305 pupils from wilaya in Algeria, participated in this investigation. The results obtained in the Survey and in the didactic experiment; show that the teaching - learning of questioning to allow a thorough comprehension of texts is possible. These conclusions merit to be consolidated by the other studies on the other populations and the other types of texts than those used in this research. A much needed endeavour that allows the pupils to be endowed with an effective strategy and to make them autonomous and responsible readers

Full text"Play has always been pushed away from Literature studies”, wrote Michel Picard in 1986. Accord-ing to him, we wish to consider, in a didactic approach, the articulation between playing and read-ing a complex French literary heritage. In doing so, we try to reconcile ludological and didactic liter-ary spheres by suggesting a pedagogical device which allows all high school students and even the weakest readers to read a Racinian tragedy. We defend that role play, within the classroom, clari-fies the game of reading. Role play links both intimate and social reading dimensions. It also allows to bring out, around a compulsory and difficult school text, a real pleasure of peer reading. As an extension of research and work on the subject-reader, our research proposition is to consid-er role play as a didactic track to motivate the reading of literary heritage.First, we define fictional immersion and consider it as a common source of pleasure to reading and role-playing. Then we summarize how motivation is considered as a way to stimulate students reading implication in the teaching of literature and think role-play as a motivation vector. Consid-ering literary heritage as an object of teaching we hypothesize role play as a meeting point for play and literary studies. Next, we present a reading device which brings about a profound modification of the reading process in the classroom, associating classic tragedy with a role-playing game. This role-playing game is based on Racinian tragedies, a formal and demanding work for young high school students. Reading becomes collaborative between peers gathered in “character circles”. Our work presents the results of an exploratory research conducted in four general high school classes. We demonstrate that such a playful device makes it possible to motivate reading in wide and di-verse high school classes, even with non-readers. Furthermore it allows students to develop a sin-gular appropriation of literary work within the community of the class while developing skills

Full textNowadays, there is a renewal of interest in cultural issues. This enhanced interest stems from recognition of formerly undervalued cultures, the migration of peoples and cultures, globalization, extremism. The culture is at the same time a factor of integration and exclusion. Such a context entails cultural matters as the hobbyhorse of the French class entrusted with an unwritten mission of peacemaking, connecting people and cultures, thanks to his teaching contents. In this respect, the glossary and the texts are precious teaching aids all the more as the French class reveals problems of comprehension, interpretation of passages related to ignorance of their cultural dimension on the one hand, and on the other hand the primacy of formalism and technicism in pedagogic and didactic management of reading sessions. This doctoral thesis seeks to answer the double question of to what extent the interpretative semantics can help rehabilitate the meaning by promoting, during lexical and textual sessions, interpretative activities that highlight in all kinds of texts the relationship language, meaning, culture, society and achieve the objectives of the cultural training, the challenges of national integration and globalization. Its ambition is also to significantly fill this hermeneutic and cultural gap by renewing some classroom practices through interpretive semantics of which this thesis intends to be a didactic transposition

Full textReading is a complex skill due to the multiplicity of underlying processes. A Simple View of Reading (SVR, Hoover & Gough, 1990) is commonly considered, combining these processes into two components: word reading and comprehension. Difficulties in one, the other, or both, would lead to difficulties in reaching functional reading (Cain & Oakhill, 2006).Children and adolescents with high-functioning autism spectrum disorders (HFASD) appear to be particularly affected by reading difficulties especially considering comprehension processes (Huemer & Mann, 2010). However, the presence of a specific low comprehender subtype in students with HFASD is not consensus-based and requires to clearly specifying their reading ability on the basis of a detailed assessment in order to provide targeted remediation strategies. The expansion of new technologies offers promising prospects for this.Themes of reading, autism and computerized technologies are thus addressed through the questions of assessment and training. On the one hand, can one simply and efficiently evaluate the reading using computer-based assessment that incorporates the framework of the SVR? Can such an assessment be relevant to understand the reading difficulties of subjects with HFASD? On the other hand, can computer-based training targeting comprehension processes, in an ecological situation, be effective in remedying the reading difficulties of children and adolescents with HFASD? How to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of such a computer-based training tool for comprehension?First, a computer-based assessment tool built on the basis of the SVR framework was proposed to 485 students from grade 2 to grade 9 in order to identify reader subtypes within this population. Results reveal various reader subtypes with a majority of good readers and seven subtypes of readers with difficulties. Four of those seven are not predicted by the SVRthus questioning the simplicity of this framework to accurately model reading skills. The computer-based assessment was then proposed to 22 children and adolescent with HFASD. Results reveal varied subtypes with a majority of readers experiencing difficulties not necessarily specific to comprehension processes. These results seem consistent with thestrong heterogeneity of the sample and call for the need to provide an assessment based on a wider reading framework for these children.Secondly, a computer-based training tool for comprehension was proposed to 13 HFASD students from grade 1 to grade 3. This tool has already been validated experimentally with typically developing children and adolescents exhibiting specific low comprehender subtype. A first study investigated the effectiveness of the software from a pretest/training/post-test protocol designed to combine group and case study analyzes. The results emphasize the need to use protocols specific to case study for this particular population in order to limit the impact of intra-individual heterogeneity. The conditions for implementing this training in an ecological situation are discussed. A final study examined the ergonomic qualities of the training tool using questionnaires completed by users. Answers emphasize the tool’s simplicity of use but also a lack of flexibility limiting the possibilities to adapt it to a maximum of users of which the subjects with HFASD. Suggestions for improvements are discussed
