Abstract:
The development of information technology has encouraged innovation in various fields, including education. Lecture scheduling is one important aspect that requires special attention to ensure efficient and effective use of resources. The EMKASADA application improves efficiency in lecture scheduling by automating the process of preparing schedules, thus reducing the time and manual effort in managing schedules. With features such as dashboards, lecturer data, courses, days, sessions, rooms, lecturers, and automatic scheduling, this system is able to speed up the schedule preparation process and optimize the allocation of available resources. In terms of effectiveness, the EMKASADA application ensures that scheduling is more optimal by minimizing the possibility of clashes between lecturer schedules, courses, and rooms. With the waterfall method approach, the system is developed in a structured and systematic manner, following the stages from requirements analysis to maintenance. Testing was conducted using the black box testing method to ensure all application features, such as dashboards, lecturer data, courses, days, sessions, rooms, lecturers, and scheduling, function properly. The test results show that the features in the EMKASADA application function properly and are able to increase efficiency in scheduling lectures.

Abstract:
Often, lecturers feel they have done what they should have done as educators, while some lecturers need formal education in the science of teaching and learning. Sometimes the skill element needs to be emphasised by the lecturers. Lecturers must be competent in explaining lessons, relating current issues, using problem-solving techniques, and questioning students to see their understanding. As for the ICT skills element, lecturers must be proficient in using gadgets and applications, Internet searches, social networks, and other technologies for teaching purposes. For interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, lecturers need to understand their abilities, motivate themselves, and know their weaknesses. This study's objective is to examine the influence of teaching and learning technology, lecturer character, and supporting facility on lecturer’s teaching effectiveness based on student perception. Employing a systematic sampling, 271 undergraduate students in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, were selected as a sample. The study's implications are helpful for lecturers to practice those skill elements to make them more excellent in the teaching and learning process. The study's design is to use a descriptive survey method, and data were analysed using Pearson correlation and multiple regression. The study also found significant relationships between teaching and learning technology, lecturer character, supporting facility, and lecturer’s teaching effectiveness. Moreover, the lecturer's character was revealed as the most significant predictor. Several suggestions have been made to prepare oneself to become a dynamic educator.

Abstract:

In a study conducted at the Copenhagen Business School, 1,794 students completed questionnaires on lectures given by 31 non-native English-speaking lecturers in 12 EMI programmes. They were asked to rate the lecture, the lecturer and the lecturer’s language. Statistical analyses revealed a correlation between the students’ perceptions of the lecturers’ general lecturing competence (defined as knowledge of subject and teaching skills) and their perceptions of their English language proficiency (Jensen et al. 2013). In return for their assistance, each lecturer received a feedback sheet on how to improve their communicative effectiveness. The feedback was given by experienced tutors of English who had extensive experience of teaching and assessing English in an everyday ELF context. This paper sets out to investigate what sort of recommendations were provided, concentrating on the 24 lecturers whose L1 was Danish. An examination of the tutors’ comments showed that they could be divided into two main categories: formal language skills and pragmatic or metadiscursive features. The observations on language features are presented using a slightly adapted version of Lavelle’s (2008) “good-enough-to-teach-model”, whilst the comments on metadiscourse could be divided into four categories: sequential structure, hierarchical structure, connectives, and “fillers”. Although some ELF research has suggested that effectiveness in ELF settings depends more on pragmatic ability than on language proficiency (Björkman 2010; Jenkins et al. 2011: 301), the analyses of the tutors’ comments to the 24 lecturers in the present study show that both aspects should be attributed importance.

Abstract:
This study aims to know the effectivity of interpersonal communication in learning activities through WhatsApp Group Media, a research study using an effectiveness study proposed by Devito (1997) which says there are 5 general dimensions to measure the effectiveness of interpersonal communication activities including openness, empathy, supportive, attitude positive and equality. Based on the results of the presentation about the effectiveness of interpersonal communication in lectures using WhatsApp Group by the Communication Studies lecturer at the Raden Fatah State Islamic University of Palembang, it is known that WhatsApp Group can display various types of learning media in the form of visual media, audio, audio visual, and presenter groups. However, the WhatsApp group media cannot provide sample objects directly if the course requires sample objects to be demonstrated. This research shows that learning activities that only use WhatsApp Group media without using face-to-face lecture methods are ineffective, this is due to the many obstacles faced by students and lecturers when the lecture activities take place. Various obstacles faced are the small level of openness of students, empathy that is difficult to show both by students and by lecturers, the attitude of support is not as strong as learning is done by direct meeting in class, the attitude shown is largely the opposite of what is expected by the lecturer, as well as the equality of the meaning of learning materials both for students and for different lecturers.

Abstract:
Most universities use manual examination systems, whereby the lecturer spends many hours to write exam sets for number of subjects, depends on how many subjects the lecturer has, beside preparing exam questions, the lecture must prepare answer scheme for each exam paper, this process is time consuming. After that, the lecturer must verify with a verifier which makes the process longer and still has no guarantee to minimize errors. Lecturers spend long hours marking these answer scripts. This process compromises the quality and talents of lecturers which could be used for better purposes such as research and modules improvements. The development of the proposed system utilizes a cumulative question bank that aggregates questions from question bank associated to it and updates continuously. The multi bloom level selection feature enables the system to categorize questions based on bloom’s taxonomy and allow proper evaluation of student’s cognitive skills. This system aims to improve effectiveness, efficiency and fairness of the examination process. The methodology applied for this research was survey and experiment methods. The survey consisted of two phases. The first phase was to get feedback of lectures of using the current examination system, the second phase was after implementing the system to get feedback of lectures after applying the new system to get the successful rate of the proposed system.

Abstract:
AbstractThe importance and amount of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) usage and English Medium Instruction (EMI) lectures continue to increase on university campuses as universities worldwide seek to promote internationalization among both the student body and the faculty. While EMI has become a priority, the teaching and learning that occurs within this framework needs to be monitored for effectiveness and efficiency. Many of the teachers and students in these EMI courses do not share a common first language and likely have a first language other than English. Therefore, they are operating in EMI with varying levels of second language (L2) English ability, which can lead to low levels of student comprehension, learning and satisfaction unless the lecturer takes special care in their delivery of content. This paper explores the linguistic composition of EMI lectures in the Swedish context and reports survey findings of students’ self-reported levels of comprehension related to lecture content and their lecturer’s L2 English use. Three case studies are described and illustrate various linguistic factors that can contribute to or inhibit student comprehension in EMI lectures. Pedagogic implications are presented with the intention of supporting EMI lecturers and their students.

Abstract:
This paper presents a process of instruction to improve the teaching quality of lecturers in higher education through the development of communication skills. One of the main instruments in the process of the personal instruction of lecturers is the filming of lessons. The lesson is observed both by the lecturer and the observer. Then a conversation that includes feedback and reflection constitutes the tool for changing behaviors and improving the quality of the interpersonal communication. The instrument is aimed at the empowerment and personal growth of the lecturer and is not focused on assessment. The observation tool using lesson filming and personal conversation can contribute to reducing fears of feedback and to improving the lecturer’s reflective ability and interpersonal communication.

Abstract:
This article presents an experimental test of the effects of teaching effectiveness and grading on evaluation of lecturers by students. Although lecturers’ grading of students’ work presents a key confounding variable in studies that investigate the influence of teaching effectiveness on lecturer evaluations by students, most existing studies use correlational studies. This makes it difficult to separate the effects. In the present study, teaching competence and lecturer’s grading of students’ work were manipulated orthogonally, in a between-participants design, with a sample of Zimbabwean students, to test their effects on the students’ endorsement of the lecturer , and also on potential lecturer evaluation. Hence, there were four experimental conditions: low-teaching competence-low grading, low teaching competence-low grading, high teaching competence-high grading and high teaching competence-high grading. The study tested the following specific hypotheses: (1) The low teaching competence-low grading condition would receive the lowest ratings on dependent measures; (2) The high teaching competence-high grading condition would receive the highest ratings. Results were largely in line with the hypotheses. These results show the benefits that accrue to instructors through giving students high grades. In particular, lecturers with low teaching competence can ‘buy’ better student ratings by assigning higher grades to students' work, while those with high teaching competence can enhance their ratings even more by giving high grades. Importantly, competent lecturers who grade their students lowly seem to be at the greatest disadvantage, in that they receive rather low ratings. The results indicate the flaws inherent in student evaluations of lecturers when their (lecturers’) levels of competence are also taken into consideration. The results are further discussed in regards with the necessity to refining related research, and more rigorous evaluation methods of lecturers’ performance in the classroom.

This study investigates using technology to promote authentic and meaningful learning in applying a peer assessment rubric for a public speaking assessment in a higher education institution in Brunei Darussalam. Three hundred six undergraduates from Universiti Teknologi Brunei's Schools of Business, Computing, and the Engineering Faculty conducted the assessments in real-time using online-based rubrics accessible via their smartphones or laptops. Comparisons were made between the lecturers' marks and students for each rubric criterion, and a set of questionnaires was distributed to investigate students' perceptions toward the peer assessment after the assessment. The results indicated a variable discrepancy between assessments by the lecturers and students for the rubric criteria. While in some disciplines, peer marking was found to overmark compared to the lecturer by more than 15%, in other cases, the marks were similar. Comparison between peer and lecturer assessment indicated that the level of agreement was sensitive to the lecturer, but less so between student cohort when assessed by the same lecturer. When differences were observed, there was no apparent discrepancy in an agreement between aspects of the rubric which evaluated content or delivery. Students’ feedback revealed a positive response towards peer assessment but highlighted issues surrounding the technological aspects of the implementation process.

Currently, Corona is a hot topic of discussion. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2), better known as the coronavirus, is a new type of coronavirus that causes infectious diseases in humans. The online learning system (on the network) is the answer for universities to continue to carry out academic activities. Online learning is a learning system without face-to-face directly between lecturers and students but is done virtually. Lecturers must ensure that teaching and learning activities continue while students are at home. The solution is that lecturers must be able to design learning activities as innovations by utilizing online media to continue running effectively. Communication between students and lecturers through video conferencing raises several problems: the low creativity of students, the difficulty of achieving communication effectiveness, and generating demotivation and disembodied behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of (1) effectiveness of virtual lecturer communication based on student perspectives, (2) student demotivation, (3) student disembodied behavior, and (4) student creativity. This research uses a descriptive method. The sampling method used is incidental sampling, where the subjects studied are lecturers and students willing to participate in filling out research questionnaires. The number of lecturers in this study was 91 people from 25 universities in the city of Bandung, with a total of 100 courses, so a sample size of 200 sampling units was obtained, where the sampling unit was lecturer-subjects. Abstract:
Higher education institutions are the witness of organizational perception shifting from "student" to "customer". Therefore, an effective lecturer's leadership is critically needed. This study aims at analyzing the role of a lecturer's transformational leadership and class climate in influencing student’s attitude in the higher education context. The samples of this study were 150 students in the big five faculty at Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia, namely the Faculty of Humanities, Medicine, Engineering, Law, and Economics and Business determined by quota sampling. The data collection method used was a self-administered questionnaire. The technique of analysis implemented for testing the hypotheses was Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The findings show that for direct effect, transformational leadership of the lecture has a positive and significant effect on objective commitment, learning motivation, and learning satisfaction of students; class climate has a positive and significant influence on learning satisfaction of students; and learning motivation has a positive and significant effect on student's objective commitment. Meanwhile, learning motivation has no impact on learning satisfaction. The results of the indirect effect show that learning motivation partially mediate the effect of lecturer’s transformational leadership on student’s objective commitment. Meanwhile, the learning motivation of students does not emerge as a mediator of the effect of transformational leadership on learning satisfaction. It is for the lecturers to develop and improve student learning motivation through their leadership which furtherly affects students' objective commitment in the endeavor to achieve high academic performance.

Abstract:
In the lecture process, learning models are very important to support good lecture quality. One of the models that can be used is the presentation model. The presentation model involves the presentation of lecture material by students in front of their peers or in front of the class, either individually or in groups, with material that has been determined by the lecturer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the presentation model in improving students' responsibility, objectivity, problem identification ability, active participation, and communication skills. This research uses a qualitative method, using a narrative study approach, which describes narratively the learning practices with the presentation model that have been implemented. Data were collected through observation, interview and documentation study. The research informants were lecturers and students. The results showed that the presentation model is very effective in the lecture process. In addition to increasing effectiveness, this model can also increase student creativity and motivation to learn. However, the drawback is the need for facilities and infrastructure as well as careful preparation. This research has implications for the best presentation learning model, which can be used by other lecturers, either at the same institution or at other institutions.

Abstract:
This study elicits the perspectives of university students and lecturers at the School of Accounting, Faculty of Economic and Business, Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), regarding a visiting lecturer from the Faculty of Accountancy, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. This is achieved by exploring their views on integrating international academic practices, their impact on student engagement, and potential collaborative opportunities in research and consultation. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining focus groups and surveys to capture the experiences and perceptions of students and lecturers regarding the visiting academics during their two-week visit—the research sample comprised university students and lecturers who interacted with the visiting lecturer during this period. The findings indicate that students displayed increased enthusiasm and participation in classes conducted by the visiting lecturer. Both students and lecturers appreciated the cultural exchange, acknowledging its role in enriching the learning environment with diverse perspectives. However, challenges such as language barriers and cultural adaptation were observed, though these were mitigated through support and effective communication. The study stresses the need for structured support systems and improved integration approaches to enhance the effectiveness of visiting lecturer programs. Limitations include the short duration of the visit and the sample size, which may affect the generalizability of findings. This research contributes to the discourse on international academic collaboration by providing insights into improving visiting lecturer programs. It highlights the importance of fostering international academic partnerships to improve educational quality and cross-cultural engagement.
