Abstract:
Since the establishment of the wireless sector, design has been playing a wide range of roles. Specialized literature has been extensively reporting the use of this discipline associated with NPD, focusing on hardware and software development in the mobile communications. On the other hand, evidences of its use to support forecasting are scarce and generic. Finally, formal publications addressing future forecasting from a design perspective in the context of mobile communications have never been reported, leading to a knowledge gap that needs to be addressed. This research investigates the strategic roles, applications and contributions of design and designers for future forecasting in the wireless telecom sector. As a comprehensive discipline, it is used to examine and identify a number of factors that might influence/impact in the development of visionary solutions supporting the design team of traditional handset manufacturers to make better decisions in order to ‘shape’ the future in the wireless industry. Considering these ideas, the aim of this research is to create a ‘design-led future forecasting model for mobile communications’ to assist and support traditional manufacturers’ design team. This PhD study relies on a qualitative methodology comprising a number of data collection and analysis tools (e.g. literature review, case studies analysis, in-depth experts’ interviews, workshops and Grounded Theory). To create the intended framework, extensive secondary and primary data; theoretical and practical inputs were brought together, analysed and combined. The proposed model was evaluated through two rounds of experts’ interviews complemented by two workshops with potential users (e.g. design students) to check and explore its practicalities when applied to design for the future. Finally, this study bridges future forecasting and the wireless telecom through the use of design to address the literature gap. The richness of the developed model provides practical assistance to traditional manufacturer’s design team informing about a broad spectrum of aspects that should be considered when designing for the future in the mobile telecom industry, supporting strategic decision making in different stages of the future-led design process.

Burel, Guillaume. "Bonnes démonstrations en déduction modulo." Phd thesis, Université Henri Poincaré - Nancy I, 2009. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00372596.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
The domain of power electronics reliability has become an important center of interest with the recent massive system electrification. The manufacturers are more and more confronted to the necessity of producing reliable devices with optimized maintenance. Electronics components, such as IGBTs, diodes and MOSFETs assembled in power modules, are at the center of the systems conversion, and as a consequence, are subjected to high environmental and functional stresses (ambient temperature, vibrations…). All these factors have a strong impact on the components lifetime and thus on the devices reliability. Economically, scheduling a maintenance with a system replacement is less detrimental than a brutal failure of the system. As a consequence, the use of lifetime prognostic tools is necessary. The problematic consists in the health state prediction of power modules in functioning to be able to schedule a maintenance before the failure of the equipment. To be able to determine the remaining useful lifetime of power modules in functioning, lifetime models are used. These models can either be empirical, physical or statistical. The empirical models are the most common ones, because of their easy establishment and implementation. They are based on results from accelerated power cycling tests, which reproduce the stresses endured by the power modules in severe conditions. An extrapolation is then needed to obtain the power module health state in normal functioning conditions. The main drawback of these models is the lack of description of the physical mechanisms leading to damage, resulting potentially in errors in particular during extrapolation. That’s the reason why physical models start to draw more attention. In the thesis, two physical lifetime models of IGBT power modules are proposed. The first approach is based on deformation induced inside the device assembly in operation. The degradation is in this case described by the quantification of deformation related to thermal stresses. In the second approach, the lifetime model is based directly on damage through the establishment of a degradation model. These two lifetime models are finally compared to show the benefits and disadvantages of each. More generally, the establishment and comparison of these models is part of an approach to develop diagnostic tools so that the remaining useful lifetime of power modules can be predicted in operation

Abstract:
Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) is a popular approach to the development of software which promotes the use of models as first-Class citizens in the software development process. In a MDE-Based software development process, software is developed by creating models to be successively transformed into another models and eventually into the software source code. When MDE is applied to the development of complex software systems, the complexity of models and model transformations increase, thus risking both, the reliability of the software development process and the soundness of the resulting software. Traditionally, ensuring software correctness and absence of errors has been addressed by means of software verification approaches, based on the utilization of formal analysis techniques, and software testing approaches. In order to ensure the reliability of MDE-Based software development processes, these techniques have some how been adapted to try to ensure correctness of models and model transformations. The objective of this thesis is to provide new mechanisms to improve the landscape of approaches devoted to the verification of static models, and analyze how these static model verification approaches can be of assistance at the time of testing model transformations

Abstract:
Scientific discovery often culminates into representing structure in nature as networks (graphs) of objects. For instance, certain biological reaction networks aim to represent living processes such as burning fat or switching genes on/off. Knowledge from experiments, data analysis and mental tacit lead to the discovery of such effective structures in nature. Can this process of scientific discovery using various sources of knowledge be automated? In this thesis, we address the same question in the contemporary context of model-driven engineering (MDE) of complex software systems. MDE aims to grease the wheels of complex software creation using first class artifacts called models. Very much like the process of effective structure discovery in science a modeler creates effective models, representing useful software artifacts, in a modelling domain. In this thesis, we consider two such modelling domains: metamodels for modelling languages and feature diagrams for Software Product Lines (SPLs). Can we automate effective model discovery in a modelling domain? The central challenge in discovery is the automatic generation of models. Models are graphs of inter-connected objects with constraints on their structure and the data contained in them. These constraints are enforced by a modelling domain and heterogeneous sources of knowledge including several well-formedness rules. How can we automatically generate models that simultaneously satisfy these constraints? In this thesis, we present a model-driven framework to answer this question. The framework for automatic model discovery uses heterogeneous sources of knowledge to first setup a concise and relevant subset of a modelling domain specification called the effective modelling domain. Next, it transforms the effective modelling domain defined in possibly different languages to a constraint satisfaction problem in the unique formal specification language Alloy. Finally, the framework invokes a solver on the Alloy model to generate one or more effective models. We embody the framework in two tools: Cartier for model discovery in any modelling language and Avishkar for product discovery in a SPL. We validate our framework through rigorous experiments in test model generation, partial model completion, product generation in SPLs, and generation of web-service orchestrations. The results qualify that our framework consistently generates effective findings in modelling domains from commensurate case studies

ABSTRACT In the carbon reduction of environmental consensus, unlike the traditional backlighting elements (such as CCFL), the lower power consumption of the LED has become a new generation of LCD TV backlight trend. Compared to the application of monitor, TV as a larger size, they need more strings of the LED backlight modules to achieve the required brightness of the LED control and on it’s multi-serial LED strings. The first problem is the current imbalances will be encountered among LED strings. The imbalance will cause the serial current uneven brightness, and thus the image quality. How to reach a balance under the given cost and getting the current balance among the LED strings, will be a challenge to for LED driver designers. Conventional AC load multiple drivers [ such as CCFL, EEFL ( External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp ), etc. ] often connected passive components in each group sharing the loads among AC power input, so one can achieve multiple AC load flow with current balance. This thesis proposes a lower power loss and cheaper method LED driver module for a typical 60” LED TV. For balancing the multiple LED strings, the LCD-TV LED driver circuit prototype design with passive components used in the DC load current connection. In addition, the circuit outputs data and waveforms were also measured. The AC power connecting with a rectifier can provide the DC power for the DC loads. By the connection of passive components, it will get the current balance among the DC loads. This thesis uses a LLC resonant converter design integrated with "A power supply with a H- balance LED driver for the multiple DC loads." The main purpose of the new power module for LED driver is to provide a cheaper and also efficient power supply circuit for current balance. Different from the traditional with linear structure, the new design can have current balance in each group of DC loads and the same brightness, the lower power consumption and high efficiency. The new design has relatively few components and low complexity, and substantial cost savings. With the actual measurements, we will measure and evaluate the performance of the new LED driver design with current balance circuits.

A LED arrays driver circuit of module is proposed, and is used in the backlight of LCD-monitor and illumination system. As constant-power dissipation curve, calculate the optimal voltage and current and determine the appropriate LED arrays. With Fly-back converter to be a AC to DC power supply and get the fixed voltage (12V) by pulse width modulation (PWM) of current feedback mode, then adopt the Boost converter to arise the voltage. Depend on feedback of LED arrays and generate the driver voltage. In order to reduce the luminance difference between each LED, this makes stable current of LED arrays by current mirror. And using the dynamic select function let LED arrays light at the same. The feature of this circuit is module design that applies various LED backlight models and generates the applicable voltage and stable current then achieve the common-design purpose.

The aim of this thesis is to utilize tandem wedge shaped light guides to accomplish the large scale scanning field-sequential-color liquid crystal display. The field-sequential-color system has a lot of advantages such as high efficiency, high color gamut. However, due to the response time of the liquid crystal is insufficient fast, the duty cycle of the light source is restricted. This situation leads to luminance reduction especially in large size application. In order to overcome this issue, the scanning field-sequential-color backlight system is proposed. In this system, the color state is sequentially scanned from up to down during a whole frame. Nevertheless, if the conventional light guide is used to perform the scanning field-sequential-color backlight module, two different color states will appear on the screen simultaneously. The light penetration will occur inside the light guide, and that will lead the image color distortion. For this reason, each scanning partition of the field-sequential-color scanning backlight application should be an isolated segment to avoid the color mixing error. Based on this purpose, the tandem wedge shaped light guides are assembled to realize large scale application. Through the experiment, the uniformity by 9 points of LG was 84% associated with the brightness enhance film and diffuser. The FHWM (Full Width at Half Maximum) of the extraction light is b30 degree in scanning direction. The leakage from the illuminated block to the adjacent stripes is only 9.8%.

Recently, TFT-LCD is the most popular display application in the flat panel display application. The main parts in the TFT-LCD system includes: LCD panel module, backlight module and electronic driver module. This paper provides the novel design of direct-in backlight module of the TFT-LCD system and the inspection method for the gap mura defect of the LCD panel. We applied the LED light source, secondary light-guide component and micro reflector structure to design the novel backlight module. Compared with West’s work in 2003, the uniformity ratio for our new design shows an increase of 24%, from 60% to 84%, and the luminance a 23.29% improvement, from 10 000 nits to 12 329 nits. On the other hand, we combine the optical interference method and neural network classification to detect the gap mura defect of the LCD panel. Three kinds of mura defects including non-uniformity sealant panel; panel with foreign material and fiber-cluster panel are tested. After learning process of Neural Network Classification method, the Mean Squared Error could decrease less than 0.01. By this method, we could sort out the bad panel and increase the yield rate of the production line.

The manufacturing process of TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) industry can be divided into three main segments: array, cell, and module. The module process is the final segment which has to directly fulfill customer’s uncertainty demands and has many distinct manufacturing sites. Besides, the module process has three specific production characteristics: (1) the products which customer require has the different grades; (2) the material requirements of each product have alternative BOM; (3) the module site facilities can re-allocate the materials to each other to fulfill the customer demands. However, there is not any research to solve the three production characteristics simultaneously. And the TFT-LCD industry is the Assemble To Order (ATO) production model. This research considers the material constraint, capacity constraint, and the production characteristics which mention above, employing the mathematical programming to construct the multi-site production planning and scheduling model for TFT-LCD module site under the given information (demands and each site’s material/ capacity supply). The objective of the model is to minimize the integrated manufacturing costs. In this research, we construct the mathematical model employing CPLEX. By means of experimentation, we can get the suitable range of the model. Compare with other method by illustration, the model has better performance than others at the three characteristics in the production planning and scheduling.

Following the improvement in luminous of light emitting diodes’(LEDs) luminous, LEDs favored by the light source market day by day. However, as the evolution of ICs, the evolution of LED also encounters the serious heat dissipation problems. So this research utilize ANSYS finite element analysis software and Taguchi methods to do analyze thermal features of LED cooling module. Four kinds of different parameters and three kinds of parameter levels are used to probe parameters’ influence on junction temperature and LEDs’ largest displacement, separately. The four parameters are thickness of MCPCB’s metal layer, materials of MCPCB’s metal layer, thickness of MCPCB’s dielectric layer, and the number of screws respectively. For junction temperature, the influence of metal layer’s thickness is the greatest, the influence of dielectric layer’s thickness is the smallest. For LEDs’ greatest displacement, the influence of metal layer’s material is the greatest, the influence of dielectric layer’s thickness is the smallest. In Taguchi improve module, the junction temperature can be reduced by 3.6%, the number of the screws can also be reduced, but LEDs’ greatest displacement will increase 0.002mm.

In this study, the optical simulation software Light Tools was executed to reduce the LED amount used by improving the performance of light guide plate of backlight module with LED illuminator. The improvement of the design including: 1.replacing the V-cut microstructures on the lower layer of the light guide plate by the micro-semispherical lens structures;2.replacing the diffusion film by the micro-semispherical lens structures on the upper layer of the light guide plate ; 3.adding the lateral microstructure on the light guide plate to reduce the dark-area phenomenon. The sizes of upper/lower microstructures, their spacings and the amount of LED were selected as the parameters and applying L18 orthogonal array to process the simulations firstly. Then integrating different kind of lateral microstructures to find the best uniformity, and obtain a set of parameters that could improve the performance of backlight module and then the amount of LED can be reduced. The results show that the uniformity of backlight module is over 88% without diffusion film which have overcome the requirement of 85% in traditional design with 2 diffusion films. This improvement not only reduces the cost from diffusion film, also removes the dark-area phenomenon. Additionally, the amount of LED is reduced to 45 from 48 that retrench about 7% of power. Traditional Light bar using in Light-Emitting-Diode(LED) backlight is applied by the long edge side-lighting of backlight module. In order to achieve high brightness, high uniformity of the LED backlight, you need to arrange a line of LED light source light bar. With the improvement of semiconductor manufacturing process, the LED’s luminous efficiency has been superior to the Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent-Lamp(CCFL), and then a substantial upgrade in LED's luminous efficiency has reduced the number of LED using in backlight module, although it can reduce the backlight module cost. Because of high brightness LED's characteristic, it may let the backlight module arise the thermal issue with hot-spot and shadow phenomenon. Therefore, I bring up using LED combine with Flexible-Printed Circuit board(FPC) and applied it to the short edge side-lighting of backlight module. It can decrease 50% reduction in the number of LED and increase brightness 25%, lifetime expectancy increased almost 150% by the long edge side-lighting backlight module. Its way will decrease the number of LED in using the short edge side-lighting and can be arranged more closely, collocated with a pattern design for light guide plate(LGP). As that design can have the solve to the hot-spot and shadow phenomenon of backlight module, reaching the perfect optical uniformity. In LED light bar layout design, using new solder pad with solder paste stencil to control LED in the X, Y, Z axis offset of 0.1mm in the range, reducing the decay of optical and regional brightness issues caused by gap and perspective in LGP assembly. And it also reduce LED Light bar rework problem and costs of manufacturing. The short edge side-lighting of backlight module not only reduces the cost, but also enhances the lifetime, brightness efficiency and reliability. It will achieve the target of high quality and high efficient LED back light module.

This study is to research for the analysis and improvement of TFT-LCD color shift. We change properties of color, including value、hue and chroma in the basic properties of color. Such as, the color distribution of the display gamma curve, backlight's led bin and saturation of the color filters, to analyze the impact of TFT-LCD color shift. The method of experimental is to change the color parameters of TFT-LCD. We use the color analyzer CA-210 to measure the three primary colors of TFT-LCD stimulus value through the color shift formula and obtain the delta E of TFT-LCD color shift. We analysis the delta E of different color parameters to identify the reason for the TFT-LCD color shift, and propose the appropriate and less cost solutions to improve the TFT-LCD color shift, and comply with the specifications developed by the IEC association. The experimental method in improvement TFT-LCD color shift, in the first is selected closer to the LED backlight module with 6500K to reduce the overall color shift value of TFT-LCD. Then adjustment Gamma Curve of TFT-LCD, in the first, adjust the Gamma curve of red and green which to meet gamma equal to 2.2 to reduce the color shift of reddish and greenish, in the finally, adjust Gamma curve of Blue to reduce variational amplitude of Color temperature. We improve the delta E of TFT-LCD color shift which can effectively reduce the average delta E to less than 3. In the study, we propose the method in improvement TFT-LCD color shift can effective use in the LED backlight, so that users can actually watch the image of the display to convey.

In this thesis, a RGBW backlight control module is developed based on W-LED along with RGB-LED. Using PSoC and digital level dimming circuit to develop a RGBW-LED backlight module which has color temperature control. The quantitative analysis and control of mixed–light technology for RGBW LED based on digital color level control technique is proposed and studied to output white light by rapidly adjusting xy chromaticity diagram into black body locus. Accordingly, the brightness and color-shifting problems resulted from temperature-rise of RGBW-LED can be improved and overcome. A high efficiency power supply is an essential prerequisite for a high-performance mixed-light LED backlight source. Apart from being energy-conserved, the voltage fluctuation caused by RGBW LED output change must be prevented as well. The research is engaged in the improvement and implementation of large-sized LED backlight source and a 16" backlight source is developed in module. The purpose of wide color space and high brightness for RGBW-LED backlight module can be completed.

In recent years, as the share of light emitting diodes (LED) being applied as the backlight of LCD grows higher to achieve thinner model in the market, the technique of LED started to replace traditional FFC tubes and became a key target. Since there are many patterns of LED and chips, this aim of this research is to find the design pattern which matches best. The size of monitor used with computer in current market is about 18.5-24 inches. Monitors sized above 26 inches are mainly used as television. This research is focused on the light source of computers and can be divided into two sections. The first section studies the applied theory of optics to estimate any optical phenomenon during luminescence of LED according to light efficiency and material properties while the second section measures the thermal resistance on the base board of LED light bar to verify the dependence of certain LED material based on the knowledge of thermal resistance. Finally, the light efficiency of LED and verified data of base board will be compared with the specification of LCM module in experiment in order to confirm that the LED compartments and base board design in edge type backlight module is the best design pattern.

In the Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD) industry, the module process is labor intensive, as it is more difficult to apply automation to this process, compared with Array, Color filter, and Cell processes. In addition, module process is considered a multi-model assembly line, which means several models from a basic product family are manufactured simultaneously. Therefore, a module process with integrated arrangement and line-balancing can reduce labor requirement and increase production efficiency. This research considered several practical characteristics of the TFT-LCD module process, including multi-skilled operators and operator efficiency, to solve a multi-model assembly line balancing (MuMALB) problem. A new mathematical model was proposed to arrange labors, tasks, workstations, and machines. Furthermore, data from the TFT-LCD module factories were used to evaluate the performance of heuristic two-phase adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) based on experimental design and response surface method. This study integrated theoretical research and practical application to develop a heuristic two-phase AGA for assembly line balancing problem for the TFT-LCD module process. Hence, the efficiency could be improved, and the cost could be reduced, which would ultimately improve the global competitiveness of TFT-LCD manufacturers of our country.

Backlights illuminate the LCD panels from the rear, and generally consist of a light source and optical components. Mass LCD backlights have used cold-cathode florescent lamps (CCFL) for this purpose, but now we are switching to LEDs. We only convert the light source of CCFL into LEDs. We use AutoCAD software to establish 7-inch backlight modules and analyze optical characteristics of 7-inch backlight modules in TracePro software. Four steps for designing LED 7 inch backlight are below: Step one: Model 7-inch backlight modules in AutoCAD. Step two: Find the uniform output plane using CCFL light source in TracePro software. Step three: Instead of CCFL, we use White LED for light source. Step four: Use three RGB colors LEDs generating white light. Finally, we can get three types of 7-inch backlight modules. Three types of 7-inch backlight modules are CCFL backlight modules, White light LED backlight modules, and Three RGB colors LED backlight modules.

In recent years, LED as the global environmental awareness is high and the green to the energy crisis facing the subject, LED has gradually been public attention. in addition to the advantages of its lightweight, long life, low pollution and low power consumption, and of good earthquake-resistant durability. Therefore the application of high power LED as lightning source becomes popular. Its applications in automobile headlamp in particular. The engine room is a high temperature environment. High temperatures will reduce the luminous efficiency and lifetime of LEDs. Thus, designing a high efficiency thermal module is important in LED headlamp application in automobiles. In this study, the car engine produce suction to drive gas manner, to design carried out in gas convection thermal module. The finite element analysis software of high-power LED applications in the thermal module of heat and mass transfer characteristics. With the finite element analysis software to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of high power LEDs used in the thermal module. Its design parameters of thermal modules for fin diameter, length, texture, thermal grease 4 factor, and joined to harsh conditions of vehicle operation time parameter analysis and simulation to identify optimal thermal module parameters. The last to experiment will simulate the real car environment. Experimental results show car produced by an engine driven suction inlet air temperature at 70℃(relative to the engine room temperature) and at room temperature 25℃. Relative average temperature of the LED chip measured as 84.02℃ and 51.09 ℃, differences up to 4.7 times of their life. From the results show effects of inlet temperature on LED chip temperature. If as in the use of car air intake location close to better weather temperature.
