Abstract:
Lejeuneaceae are the largest family of the liverworts with at least one thousand species in 68 currently accepted genera. The number of genera is much lower than accepted previously and was reduced based on recent molecular work. This paper present a first classification of Lejeuneaceae based on integrated molecular-phylogenetic and morphological evidence. The family is subdivided into two broad subfamilies, Ptychanthoideae (19 genera) and Lejeuneoideae (49 genera). Ptychanthoideae are not further subdivided whereas Lejeuneoideae are classified into three tribes: Brachiolejeuneeae (8 genera), Symbiezidieae (new; 1 genus) and Lejeuneeae (40 genera). Lejeuneeae, the largest tribe in the family, are classified into eight subtribes: Ceratolejeuneinae (2 genera), Cheilolejeuneinae (4 genera), Cololejeuneinae (12 genera), Cyclolejeuneinae (3 genera), Drepanolejeuneinae (2 genera), Echinolejeuneinae (3 genera), Lejeuneinae (5 genera) and Lepidolejeuneinae (2 genera). Seven genera of Lejeuneeae have not yet been studied by molecular methods and are not classified.

Abstract:
From January 29th to February 1st, 2015, a group of University of Ottawa undergraduate students and I hosted an exhibit about the life and research of French physician Dr. Jérôme Lejeune, who in 1959 discovered Trisomy 21, the genetic origin of Down syndrome (DS). Considered the father of modern genetics, Dr. Lejeune believed medicine should serve the patient and not the disease. The exhibit focused on Lejeune’s profound humanity and compassion that accompanied his commitment to scientific truth. It also showed how this great scientist maintained an unshakeable adherence to his faith and conscience despite challenges and adversity.

Abstract:
Over the last two decades, Philippe Lejeune’s research has established diary-writing as maybe the only form of life-writing immune from panfictionalism. In an oft-quoted article (Lejeune 2007), the French theorist famously expressed his fiction and autofiction fatigue (‘[…] j’ai créé “antifiction” par agacement devant “autofiction”, le mot et la chose’, 3) and set up an insurmountable ontological barrier between autobiographies and diaries: ‘autobiography has fallen under the spell of fiction, diaries are enamored with truth’ (‘[…] l’autobiographie vit sous le charme de la fiction, le journal a le béguin pour la verité’, 3).1 In his more recent book, Aux Origines du Journal Personnel: France, 1750–1815 (2016), Lejeune not only reasserted this privileged connection between diaries and truth/reality—not unlike Barthes’s claim in La Chambre claire that photography cannot be distinguished from its referent— but went as far as removing diaries from the field of literary studies as, according to him, they do not constitute a literary genre (or only as an epiphenomenon). In Diaries Real and Fictional in Twentieth-Century French Writing, Sam Ferguson opts for an altogether different approach.

Abstract:
Abstract Lejeunea subelobata Carrington & Pearson has been regarded as a synonym of L. drummondii Taylor, but the two species differ in patterns of variation in lobule morphology, shapes of the gynoecial bracteole, female bract underleaf and vegetative underleaves; in stem anatomy, and ecology. Lejeunea subelobata is a rheophyte from south-east Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand that grows primarily as a lithophyte on rock within and around waterways, in association with basicolous substrates particularly basalt, rhyolite and andesite. Lobules in L. subelobata are always explanate, the female bract underleaf is obovate, underleaves are rotund and remote, and the stem medulla has 19-26 cells with small concave trigones. Lejeunea drummondii is, in its current circumscription, an ecologically and morphologically malleable taxon confined to Australia. The relationship between L. drummondii and plants from New Zealand described as L. epiphylla Colenso nom. illeg. requires further investigation.

Abstract:
Stephani (1915) proposed the transfer of Eulejeunea crenulata Schiffner (1890: 33) to Lejeunea Libert (1820: 373). However, as the combination already existed and thus not available for use, Lejeunea crenulata (Schiffn.) Stephani (1915: 784) is a later homonym of Lejeunea crenulata Mitten (1871: 415). Nonetheless, Eulejeunea crenulata remains a validly published name (Söderström et al. 2015). According to the recent compilation of species binomials in Lejeuneaceae published between 1884 and 1893 (Söderström et al. 2015), Eulejeunea crenulata is listed as a heterotypic synonym of Lejeunea patersonii (Stephani 1896: 92) Stephani (1915: 784) following Hürlimann (1993). However, this is an error as Hürlimann (1993) cited Lejeunea crenulata Mitten as a synonym of Lejeunea patersonii, following Grolle (1980), and not Eulejeunea crenulata Schiffn. (Lejeunea crenulata (Schiffn.) Steph.). This has prompted us to revisit the true identity of Eulejeunea crenulata.

Abstract:
Philippe Lejeune, examining the autobiographical production in French, identified a constant feature in the readings he did, to which he named autobiographical pact. In one of his formulations, the autobiographical pact would be the manifestation of the personal engagement of the autobiographer through a textual construction (prologue, introductory note, preamble) or para-textual (title and subtitle, information on the inside cover and book flaps), allowing the reader to admit the text as an expression of the personality of the writer, in its true value. The theoretical construction has proved insufficient: from one text to another Lejeune reviews and re-discusses the pact, applying nuances, raising the ambiguities in which the genre is involved. In those attempts to get closer to the genre, he expresses himself in an autobiographical manner. With that, his text becomes an object of study in itself. With my research, I intend to make evident the relational character of the autobiographical pact, in the conjugation of acts of reading and writing. I start with my readings of his studies about the autobiographical genre, putting them in dialogue with his own trajectory as a researcher. Besides that, we are also interested in observing the readings Lejeune undertake around the Confessions by Rousseau, in parallel to the first theoretical texts. After that, consider the pacts cast in the studies of the diaries, made after the theorizations of the autobiographical pact. It is important to make evident the ways in which the pact is expressed in Lejeune\'s critical text itself. In that sense, I expect to articulate both the autobiographical and the critical dimensions in his texts.

Ray, Kacy Lyn. "Factors affecting Wilson's Plover (Charadrius wilsonia) demography and habitat use at Onslow Beach, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/30996.

Abstract:
The Wilson’s Plover (Charadrius wilsonia) is a species of concern in most southeastern U.S. coastal states, where it breeds and winters. The U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan listed this species as a Species of High Concern (Prioritization Category 4), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has designated it as a Bird of Conservation Concern (BCC). Despite its conservation status, Wilson’s Plover population trends are poorly understood and little research has been conducted examining habitat factors affecting this species’ breeding and foraging ecology. I collected Wilson’s Plover demographic data and explored which habitat characteristics influenced breeding success and foraging site selection among three coastal habitat types (i.e. fiddler crab (Uca spp.) mud flats, beach front, and interdune sand flats) at Onslow Beach, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, 2008-2009. I observed little difference between years in nest success (≥ 1 egg hatched), failure, and overall nest survival. The majority of nest failures were caused by mammalian predators. For those nests that hatched successfully, greater proportions were located in clumped vegetation than on bare ground or sparsely vegetated areas. In-season chick survival for both years was higher for nests that hatched earlier in the season, and for nests farthest from the broods’ final foraging territory. Productivity estimates (chicks fledged per breeding pair) were not significantly different between years (0.88 ± 0.26 fledged/pair in 2008, 1.00 ± 0.25 fledged/pair in 2009) despite a shift in foraging behavior, possibly related to habitat alterations and availability in 2009. My findings indicate that Wilson’s Plover adults and broods were flexible in establishing final foraging territories; in 2008 all final brood foraging territories were on fiddler flats while in 2009, final foraging territories were sometimes split between fiddler flats, beach front, and interdune sand flats. For those Wilson’s Plovers establishing territories on fiddler flats, area of the flat was the most important feature explaining use versus non-use of a particular flat; area ≥ 1250 m² was preferred. Close proximity to water and vegetative cover were also important habitat features in foraging site selection on fiddler crab mud flats, and in all habitat types combined. My findings will directly contribute to population and habitat research goals outlined in the U.S. Shorebird Plan and will supplement limited data about foraging and habitat use related to Wilson’s Plover breeding ecology.

Full text
Abstract:
Paul Gauguin and the island of Tahiti have had such and established association that all previous artistic talents have been hidden. However, Paul Gauguin was only the last in a long line of French artists to paint the island and its neighbourly archipelagos. Four of them are studied : Jules-Louis Lejeune, Max Radiguet, Charles Giraud and Pierre Loti. The historical research bases on drawings realized by expeditions to Polynesia revolves arount three themes : the history of the myth of Tahiti and its artists, the history of the representations of Tahiti, and art as a source of the history of Tahiti. Since the mythe of Tahiti, which links the island to love and to an earthly paradise, belongs within the realm of French general knowledge, its foundations and evolution need to be understood. This is to determine ist impact on artists and their works. These works of art, convey, transpose and distort, or in a word depict a reality cast within a mould of trends of thought, philosophical concepts and scientific approaches. This iconographic group consistently interweaves individual and collective features of long and short duration. Thus, the second part of the thesis sets out to analyze and sort out some of these aspects. The last part describes the publishing development of drawings and their contribution to the history of Tahiti through three themes : the so-called "guerre franco-tahitienne", the Tahitian woman, the key feature of the myth which calls upon social history, and queen Pomare IV, in whom myth and history merge

Abstract:
Sara Payson Willis Eldredge Farrington Parton, more famously known as the elusive Fanny Fern, employs three autobiographical personae mediated by fiction in her debut novel, Ruth Hall: (1) Ruth Hall, the novel's protagonist; (2) Floy, the fictional Ruth's pseudonym; and (3) Fanny Fern, Parton's real-life pseudonym and the name under which Ruth Hall was published. Together these personae assert a fragmented presence that incorporates various voices and lives, allowing for exploration, growth, and interactivity.Philippe Lejeune's autobiographical contract outlines three specific guidelines for autobiography—that it be a narrative, that it explore personal history, and that it link author and protagonist. Ruth Hall participates in two-thirds of Lejeune's contract, though Parton's conscious fictionalization demands a revisiting of the autobiographical contract, revealing the impossibility of recording truth as well as the impracticality of a unitary self.Through her use of autobiographical personae in Ruth Hall and in her personal life, Parton succeeds in rewriting the narrative of domesticity for the nineteenth-century American woman. Her self-conceptualization embraces multiplicity as she demands to be seen as "more than."

Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Litteraturvetenskapliga institutionen, 2016. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-301080.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
This chapter examines how early film criticism evolved as a distinct branch of women’s interwar ‘film talk’ through writers such as Iris Barry and Dilys Powell, taking C. A. Lejeune as a central case study. It explores Lejeune’s early writing in her The Manchester Guardian column from 1922 to 1928 and early work for the Observer. The chapter looks at developments and trends in her writing, considering how her columns produced a journalistic mode of film talk coloured specifically by debates and concerns about gender. This is read through Lejeune’s specific discussions about notions of women’s cinema, women and stardom, and female spectatorship. Gender shaped and shadowed much of her critical discourse, not only through the gendered associations of the topics she discussed – especially stardom – but through her approach to negotiating her own gender identity as a professional film critic, and the experimentation she enacted with crafting and refining her journalistic voice as a distinctly film-based writer. The chapter explores the stylistic strategies of Lejeune’s column writing, examining her use of literary techniques and fictional frameworks as a way to turn her attention far more explicitly to the topic of women and cinema.

Abstract:
Architectural historians Victor Deupi and Jean-François Lejeune assess the legacy of the “modernist generation” of Cuban architects who were active on the island between the late 1930s and 1959. Deupi and Lejeune focus on how this generation struggled “to be modern and Cuban at the same time,” and how this tension informed their residential designs. Many Cuban architects sought to adapt modern aesthetics and building techniques to a tropical climate in their blueprints for private houses, public buildings, and urban planning. Architect Eugenio Batista codified the main elements of vernacular Cuban houses as “the three ps”—persianas (louvers), patios (courtyards), and portales (arcades)—which other architects adopted. Deupi and Lejeune have followed the professional careers of numerous Cuban architects who moved abroad after the Revolution and left a “transnational and transcultural” imprint in the built environments of their host countries, particularly the United States, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.
