Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
With the increasing number of suicides among adolescents year by year along with a younger and rising trend, life education has caused widespread concern in the whole society. At present, there are some problems with the life education for young people in China, and the life education system suitable for China’s national conditions needs to be further improved. The analysis of the current situation of the life education for adolescents would bring about important enlightenment for the establishment of the life education system. It is necessary to strengthen the education of life values among young people, use experiences and the home-school cooperation to help young people improve their life consciousness, learn to respect life, fear life, cherish life, as well as promote their healthy development.

Abstract:
Objective. To examine the gender, age, and region of residence in the anthropometric and nutritional profiles of children and adolescents aged 6–18 in Henan Province, China’s third most populous province. Design. This cross-sectional study of the China National Nutrition and Health survey (2010–2013) used a multistage cluster sampling technique. The sample included Chinese schoolchildren and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years (1,660 boys and 1,561 girls). Multiple logistic regression models were used to estimate the associations between sociodemographic correlates and overweight or obesity and stunting. Setting. Nine districts/counties in Henan Province. Participants. 3,221 subjects completed the questionnaire. Sociodemographic information was obtained. Body weight and height were measured. Results. There were statistically significant regional differences in average height and weight for boys in all age groups. Girls followed the same trends except for height when 15–18 years old. The urban-rural residence differences were found in relation to prevalence of stunting and weight status. Subjects in poor rural areas (15.43%) and ordinary rural areas (15.34%) had higher rates of stunting compared to their urban counterparts. Prevalence of overweight or obesity was highest in big city areas (15.71%) and lowest in ordinary rural areas (6.37%). Being a boy (OR = 1.69, 95% CI = 1.314–2.143), living in a big city (OR = 2.10, 95% CI = 1.431–3.073), or in a small-medium city (OR = 2.28, CI = 1.606–3.247), or being in a younger age group was associated with being overweight or obese. In addition, being a boy, living in a big city, or in a small-medium city, or being younger in age meant they were less likely to be stunted. Conclusions. A substantial dual burden of malnutrition among children and adolescents in Henan Province was revealed. The urban-rural differences in nutritional status were found. Stunting was more prevalent in rural areas than in urban. In contrast, while the rising problem of childhood and adolescent obesity still exists in the big city, we also found a great spike in obesity in small-medium cities. Evidence also indicated that boys were more likely to be overweight or obese. Our findings suggest that nutrition education, as well as environmental and policy interventions, is needed to target specific geographic regions.

Abstract:
China’s competitive education system has produced notably high learning outcomes, but they may be costly. One potential cost is high levels of anxiety. China has launched several initiatives aimed at improving student mental health. However, little is known about how effective these programs and policies are. The goal of this paper was to examine anxiety levels among children and adolescents in rural China, and to identify which subpopulations were particularly vulnerable to anxiety. Data were aggregated from 10 different school-level surveys conducted in rural areas of five provinces between 2008 and 2015. In total, 50,361 students were evaluated using the 100-item, nine-subcategory Mental Health Test (a variation of the Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale). Seven percent of students were at risk for overall anxiety. However, over half of students were at risk for at least one subcategory of anxiety. Students at higher risk for anxiety included students from poorer counties and families, female students, secondary school students, and students with lower levels of academic performance. Many students in rural China are at risk for anxiety, and certain student subpopulations are particularly vulnerable. We suggest that China’s government review and update student mental health programs and policies.

Abstract:
China is experiencing significant public health challenges related to social and demographic transitions and lifestyle transformations following unprecedented economic reforms four decades ago. Of particular public health concern is the fourfold increase in overweight and obesity rates in the nation’s youth population, coupled with the low prevalence of adolescents meeting recommended levels of physical activity. Improving the overall health of China’s more than 170 million children and adolescents has become a national priority. However, advancing nationwide health initiatives and physical activity promotion in this population has been hampered by the lack of a population-specific and culturally relevant consensus on recommendations for achieving these ends. To address this deficiency and inform policies to achieve Healthy China 2030 goals, a panel of Chinese experts, complemented by international professionals, developed this consensus statement. The consensus was achieved through an iterative process that began with a literature search from electronic databases; in-depth reviews, conducted by a steering committee, of the resulting articles; and panel group evaluations and discussions in the form of email correspondence, conference calls and written communications. Ultimately, the panel agreed on 10 major themes with strong scientific evidence that, in children and adolescents aged 6–17, participating in moderate to vigorous physical activities led to multiple positive health outcomes. Our consensus statement also (1) highlights major challenges in promoting physical activity, (2) identifies future research that addresses current knowledge gaps, and (3) provides recommendations for teachers, education experts, parents and policymakers for promoting physical activity among Chinese school-aged children and adolescents. This consensus statement aligns with international efforts to develop global physical activity guidelines to promote physical activity and health and prevent lifestyle-related diseases in children and adolescents. More importantly, it provides a foundation for developing culturally appropriate and effective physical activity interventions, health promotion strategies and policy initiatives to improve the health of Chinese children and adolescents.

Abstract:
Since years, the transformation of Chinese society has been frequently mentioned in media and scientific works. Except the economic boom and further progress, this transformation is simultaneously accompanied by social problems, such as widened gaps and intensified conflicts between social classes; the discriminations against marginalized groups… However, very little attention focuses on one of their origins or their consequences: the ignorance and the misunderstandings about educational issues. Speaking of this theme, comparing with other educational institutions, family in Chinese society often plays the most significant role, because family relationships and values built the whole society until today. To a certain extent, if we don’t study this theme, then we couldn’t understand Chinese society and analyze its risks. For this reason, we undertake this research on the transformations of family education in China and its sociocultural dimensions. In order to highlight the link between family education and its environment, we choose to focus only on the adolescence, because from this step of life, the influences of environments become more and more powerful and compete with those of the family. By a survey with teenagers’ families in a Chinese city, we thus explore some strong correlations between the domestic world and exterior space and the challenges for today’s Chinese family education, such as the rejection of traditional virtues in the moral education, the differentiation in educational perceptions between social classes, etc

Abstract:
The following study explores the experiences with the Mandarin language and other Chinese dialects, as well as with Chinese culture among adolescents who are children of Chinese immigrants who attend to Chinese schools and non-Chinese schools in Lima, Peru. The authors performed depth interviews in order to explore the adolescents’ thoughts and experiences. The main questions were about how their parents expose them to the Mandarin language as well as other Chinese dialects and Chinese culture, what strategies they have to learn Chinese languages, and what their cultural identities are. The results demonstrate that the acquisition of the Chinese languages depends mostly of their parents’ attitude and of each adolescent’s interest to learn Chinese. When comparing the adolescents of Chinese schools and the adolescents of non-Chinese schools, the results show that the adolescents from the Chinese schools had a major contact with Chinese culture and language. Their language proficiency level is also higher than the adolescents’ of non-Chinese schools and most of them identify themselves as Chinese or Chinese and Peruvian.
Tesis

Abstract:
This thesis examined the adoption of mobile phones and use of SMS among Chinese teenagers based on the uses and gratification theory and computer-mediated communication research. Specific areas of Chinese teenagers’ SMS use, such as parental control, the circulation of chain messages, the popularity of greeting messages and the wide use of emoticons were studied. The social functions of SMS, especially in Chinese teenagers’ social-emotional practice, were explored as well. This study is based on a field survey conducted among one hundred Chinese teenagers. It reveals that, for Chinese teenagers, the two main reasons for the adoption of mobile phones are parental influence and the need for social communication; the use of SMS corresponds to seven uses and gratifications: flexibility, low cost, privacy, embarrassment avoidance, entertainment, fad and escape. SMS is also used by Chinese teenagers to build and maintain their social relationships.
