Abstract:
The highly inducible acetamidase promoter from Mycobacterium smegmatis has been used as a tool in the study of mycobacterial genetics. The 4.2 kb acetamidase operon contains four putative open reading frames (ORFs) (amiC, amiA, amiD, and amiS) upstream of the 1.2 kb acetamidase ORF (amiE). In this article, using electrophoretic mobility shift assay and promoter probe analyses with a lacZ reporter system, we show the position of three putative operators within the acetamidase operon in M. smegmatis. Results from these studies reinforce previous findings about the involvement of multiple promote

AbstractIn The King’s English: A Guide to Modern Usage, Kingsley Amis identified H. W. Fowler as his great predecessor. Amis revealed himself as a soldier in the army of prescriptivists, voices that settle ‘modern linguistic problems’ while proudly parading as non-linguists. The book exposed Amis’s acrimonious dispute with descriptive linguists, while the writer delivered his very own brand of linguistics to his readers. This paper looks at the success of Amis’s book and its similarities with Fowler’s. It also emphasizes the continuity and popularity of usage handbooks while presenting some of

Absence of meal-induced insulin sensitization (AMIS) results in a predictable progression of dysfunctions, including postprandial hyperglycemia, compensatory hyperinsulinemia, resultant hyperlipidemia, increased oxidative stress, and obesity, progressing to syndrome X and diabetes. To test the ‘AMIS syndrome’ hypothesis we used 3 known means of producing graded and progressive changes in meal-induced insulin sensitization in rats. We used an aging model (9, 26, and 52 weeks), associated with a slow development of AMIS; a low-dose sucrose supplement model to accelerate the development of AMIS;

Results do not support the efficacy of AMIs for smoking or HIV-risk behaviors. In response to education regulations for quality assurance (QA), universities in Indonesia strongly require an integrated management information system (MIS), such as Academic MIS (AMIS). In developing AMIS, the main issues that must be addressed are the urgent need for implementing university QA standards (even though departments have already implemented their best practices for years and show reluctance to change), changing requirements, and the need for a quick delivery system despite the fact that AMIS is very large in scope.
