Abstract:
The notion of holiday can't be simply summarized to the time of a stay punctuated by the collective ritual of departures and returns : it contains on the one hand dreams and plans that come before and on the other hand the memories and the family recollection that come after. Always in everybody's minds and in daily conversations, holiday is, in popular classes, the root of a collective idealization. It gives a communauty, egalitarian, humanitarian, alternative option more ore less realistic in the individualist, hierarchical, utilitarian, process of daily life. For the families who have been on holiday, holiday happiness gets fulfilled in the "ritualization" of the deeds more than in the incertainties of adventure. For the families who haven't been on holiday, the settled way of life can mean privation and even exclusion but it can also correspond to a certain kind of household holiday (gardening, do-it yourself. . . ) Or it can be written in a continuation of being and doing, far from the promises of a somewhere else where you could be another one

Abstract:
This thesis investigates an hypothesis concerning the identifying of holiday villages in social tourism. This research considers that they actively contribute to tourism. It resorts to exotropical logics of "territorial construction" which differentiate them from the commercial operators of this field. These logics, examined in a systemic way within a research-action context associating four holiday villages in Aquitaine, have been analysed from geographical, ideological, economical and political points of view. The first results define the social tourism operators through their territorial involvement which appears in the opening of the villages onto their environment, in the defence of the importance of holidays as a social link, in the use of regulation systems which allow an easier access to holidays for all and in human relations that consider holiday-makers as travellers from an educational angle. Even if the four operators that we studied share these very convictions, they put them into practice differently according to their historical and social contingencies. Thus the analysis of the "territorial involvement surface" allows us to define the strong and weak points of the practices they bring into play on their territories. This study should enlighten the operators about the nature and the level of their involvement in the "territorial construction" logic considered as a local development medium. It also should allow them, by relying on their history, values, skills and know-how, to maximize their present abilities of innovation and authenticity as opposed to the globalization and standardization found in the tourism industry

Abstract:
For at least thirty years now, descendants of North African immigration in France have been at the centre of scientific and political debates. Defining degrees and rhythms of integration or identifying forms of discrimination, sociological analysis of the descendants of migrants has generally analysed life practices and social trajectories from the perspective of the country of birth and residence. This work proposes an alternative perspective by describing and analysing the material links that are maintained with the country of parental origin through an apparently minor phenomenon: holidays trips to the country of birth of their parents – in this case, Algeria. This thesis explores questions of affiliation and feelings of belonging that are raised in these trips, taking into account the various social backgrounds and trajectories (social class, sex, age and generation, family status) of the descendants who participated. Affiliations are not merely questioned through declarations or symbolical links to the country of origins (such as language or religion), but also through the description and analysis of material practices around holidays trips in Algeria. This analysis of practices reveals different ways of maintaining relations with the country of origin, between roots tourism, consisting of finding one’s place in family or national history, and leisure tourism, in which affiliations are based on current social relationships with family and/or friends. This research is based mainly on qualitative methods (interviews and observations) implemented both in France (around the city of Lyon) and Algeria (specifically in the area of Setif, the main region of origin for Algerian families in Lyon). The description and analysis of present-day practices is completed by a longitudinal perspective on the evolutions of these holidays practices. These evolutions are analysed both from the point of view of the descendants and their families, and the point of view of the source state of emigration, Algeria

Abstract:
This thesis offers a comparative reading of the short story « Les Vacances » and the novel The Cashier, written by Gabrielle Roy – the short story being the genesis of the novel. The subject is the main character of the two texts: Alexandre Chenevert. The first chapter draws up the chronology of the two variants of « Les Vacances », with the tools of critical edition and genetic criticism and then compares both texts, showing the existence, in Roy's mind, of a character « chenevertien »: a physically weak hero, fearing diseases and lack of money, living in alienating urban settings. The second chapter demonstrates how Roy complements her character by giving him a conscience – and space to communicate it to the reader – in The Cashier. The third chapter presents how Roy offsets, with Alexandre's conscience and perspective, a concrete and symbolic imprisonment in his life and story, then liberates him by offering him a novelistic fate.

Abstract:
Souvenir, as a material object reveals a change of scenery for a certain kind of population and implicitly responds to a confrontation between a traveller and an environment. Bought within an individual experience it refers to, the souvenir yet contains a restricting message that justifies its existence. This obvious message emerges from the sign producers , either local or foreign, and their perceptions from the habits or the imaginary thoughts their potential customers may have. The analysis of material signs conveyed by the souvenir lays in a consumption society logic which omits on purpose the consumer point of view. This partial analysis of reality connects the settlement of holiday places as a response to a social, economic and technical reality, to a reification process of the change of scenery as a response to an imaginary reality. The study of the souvenir within time and space aims at highlighting trends and allows the identification of two types of messages :an external perception of holiday places, which tends to be codified and a local integration of this perception, which tends to be deconstructed. The evolution of these two trends, represented by the souvenir, lays in the distinction done by Charles Sender Pierce between the three fundamental ways making real life present and visible : the sign who is the trace of his referent, the icon which looks alike and the symbol which transforms it

Abstract:
The research object of this dissertation is the City of Rest and Holiday (CRV) of the GATCPAC. A project that was born in 1931, presented at CIAM IV, published in various journals, but never executed because of the Spanish Civil War. The GATCPAC placed the holiday resort on the beach of the Llobregat delta, between the towns of Castelldefels, Gava and Viladecans. The place was categorized as rural, an extremely flat landscape defined by strips of dunes, a pine forest and wetlands. The project was inspired by the need to provide a space for the rest of the Barcelona working class, which thanks to the progressive government policies of the Spanish Second Republic had, by law, and for the first time, a weekend. In order to convince the society about the need of the project the GATCPAC created a cooperative for its promotion and organization. The search of this specific place was lead by the idea of combining nature and resting: the GATCPAC was convinced that for urban life stress recovering, it was indispensable to have contact with nature. This connection was clear during the weekend when thousands of people leave the city leading both to the sea and mountainous natural landscapes. The challenge of the project was to combine the order, civility and culture inherent in the "city", with the amplitude, the relationship with the land and freedom inherent of "rural areas". The resources used by the architects to reconcile "city" and "rural areas" interpreted the landscape as an organizing pattern, minimized building by concentrating activity, avoided urbanization, conceptualized the "gap" as another dimension of the project, used agriculture to isolate the resort and "activate" the landscape. Thus, the project preserved the virgin nature appearance, and was only ordered by a minimum mesh of roads and canals. The buildings, keeping large distances one from another, were erected above the pines, occasionally, as landmarks in the landscape. The GATCPAC reached these conclusions about landscape after reviewing several urban past projects, which were reinterpreted under the perspective of the rest. Among them, which stood as relevant were the Russian ¿deurbanizing¿cities, the siedlung and the Soviets settlements devised by Ernst May, as well as the conceptual framework laid down by Le Corbusier. The project also incorporated "organic" mechanisms to settle in the area, which could be related to the Catalan urban culture, a culture that had been evolving between 1910 and 1920, and was influenced by Howard's garden cities theory. This dissertation explains and contextualizes the project, but also demonstrates the validity of the parameters with which the GATCPAC ordered the CRV. This work also shows that the interest of the GATCPAC model, unlike most modern urban theories, lies in avoiding to consider a radical restructuring of the existing city, at least in the short term, but to "turn on to the suburbs", with a clear landscape intention. The existing city, which is dense and stressful, is complemented by an antithetic area located at a close distance. This is a "revealing" mechanism, facing the contemporary suburban landscape, where open spaces are mixed with housing, factories and infrastructures, facing the urban agglomerations caused by weekend escapes, and facing the territorial problem of second residences. Despite the current landscape situation is radically different than from the thirties, the GATCPAC proposal of the activation of the suburbs is still inspiring because it poses a challenge to a very present situation: the territorial sustainable balance between urban life and the desire for nature contact of its inhabitants.

Abstract:
As a reply to the long-term conquest of free time by lower -and middle-classes, members of the upper classes agreed upon the necessary regulation of square time. Along with those moral concerns, some fractions of the upper-class redeploying invaded leisure areas by promoting distinctive behaviours different from those the lower and middle-class had, and also from the square-time activities the traditional "leisurely" dominant classes had. The "Club Méditerranée" ideology played a seminal role in the "moral modernization" of France by the newly acquired urban middle-class psyche. From the 1960s onwards, in spite of deceivingly obvious mass-development in the leisure industry, gaps between social classes have kept on increasing. Spending time off at Club Méditerranée resorts has now come to play a specific sociological role : that of allowing dominant classes to intensify their usual leisuring habits as everyday leisure opportunities keep on getting less and less both possible and satisfactory

This work comes in line with beauvois and joule's research (1981) derived from the theory of cognitive dissonance (festinger, 1957) and is focused on the study, in short and long terms conditions, of the cognitive dynamics at the time of dissonance reduction. Starting from the central hypothesis that dissonance reduction cannot be the reduction of all the inconsistencies but may generate some unbalance, the objects was ti identify conjointly the evalutive modifications subsequent to a problematic behaviour (writing a counterattitudinal essay in favour of the reduction of the time of summer holidays) and the repercussions of these modifications. The work is structureds around three studies conducted in elementary school (10-11 years old) and the results, globally, allow to understand better the specificity of the dissonance reduction process : the attitude change, when it is reducing the dissonance, is not accompanied by conjointly cognitive modifications in the same direction, even at long term. They invalide the classic interpretation in terms of consistency considering the post-experimental evaluative change as the consequence of cognitive changes

I present my work in five parts. The introduction is devoted to my process and creative evolution, a catalog of sorts, documenting the accumulation of ideas, objects, projects and events that that make up my artistic practice. The second section 'Mama,' is an anecdotal reflection on how and where I find truth in experiences and relationships outside the traditional studio practice. The third section 'You' is a continued narrative incident that helps explain and contextualize my non-normative perspective as a person and as a maker. The fourth section 'Make' will analyze my thesis exhibition "Hey Mama, Diana, Where You At?" The final section 'Magic' will propose the propulsion of my work into the future through radical tenderness and the body. The arrangement of this thesis is chronological with a photo essay influence. My intent is not only to capture finished work, but also illuminate my process. To do this I have married text and image to enhance the experience each reader has engaging in my world. Drawing from interdisciplinary sources my work focuses on natural processes, the body, and how we orient ourselves within hegemonic social and political landscapes. Often searching to locate myself, I experiment with the potential of environments as conduits for performance and sculptural interventions. Enticed by the relationships between the body and its surroundings my work seeks to understand gender, race, and corporeality through endurance, games, and gesture.

The study of B meson decays to 3 pseudoscalar mesons MMM provides a promising arena for constraining CP violation from the Standard Model and searching for "new physics". In this thesis we derive decay amplitudes, rates, and CP asymmetries for B mesons decaying to MMM, in the limit of SU(2) isospin and in the limit of SU(3) quark flavor symmetry. Our results are classified according to the relative angular momentum of mesons in the final states. When all the mesons have relative even angular momentum, there are 56 decay channels expressed as linear combinations of 7 reduced matrix elements. There are also 7 reduced matrix elements for the 36 decay channels where all the mesons have relative odd angular momentum. These results imply relations between the decay amplitudes, including several isospin triangles for B --> MMM, analogous to the B --> [pi][pi] isospin triangle. We also derive sum rules for isospin triangle. We also derive sum rules for B --> MMM, which give approximate SU(2) relations among branching ratios and CP asymmetries.

Réau-Chevaleyre, Dominique.

Full text
Abstract:
The choice of a holiday destination which proceeds from an elective process (a preferential choice) is a geographical choice in which space is directly involved. The geography of tourism - essentially invested in the understanding of the "touristification" process - should consider a new scale in its analysis. Indeed, the general problem of touristic space coincides with that of the tourist's space, which in turn asks the question of the nature of the spatial-touristic rapport. Thus, it seems useful to question the significance of the relationship that exists between the tourist and the elected holiday destination in order to gather answers to the question "why here and not somewhere else ?". In such a context a re-reading of the history of holidays and tourism shows that three centuries of history have contributed to the codification of the touristic space and its practices, as well as to the guiding of migration choices. The individual and collective history has moulded mental images of space, or more precisely spatial representations, that are at the heart of the decision-making process relative to a holiday destination. So it is interesting to make a theoretical investigation of the concept of spatial representation. Finally, an empirical research in the department of the Charente-Maritime (west coast of France) tries to explain the tourist's decisional environment. From a sample survey intended to register the factors that exercise an influence on the choice of a holiday destination, two different types of factors are identified : on the one hand, some inherent in the tourist and others inherent in space; on the other hand, some factors that are called "spatial touristic preferences". These results give an explanation to the structure of the tourist's decisional environment as well as to the way spatial representations are moulded and function. Thus, factors come to light which seem to come from a psycho-geography, apt to explain the impact of spatial immateriality in the holiday destination decision-making process. The study of touristic spatial representation as a tool to perceive the touristic environment seems to give a key to understanding the election of a holiday destination

Abstract:
E-commerce and m-commerce are, currently, both becoming a strong and important way of making business. This thesis aims to find out and analyze the reaction of people in front of the new phenomenon m-commerce in, not only, accessing to information, but also, conducting transactions through mobile devices. The reaction of people has been studied by observing and analyzing existing theories stating in m-commerce. The empirical studies were conducted through the administration of a questionnaire to a sample of 250 young European inhabitants. This survey aimed to collect primary data. The findings show that m-commerce in general is well perceived by customers. It can be a good way to make business depending on the sector companies are involving. Even if m-advertising can be considered as a good communication tool by companies, it appears that most of customers are not enthusiastic to receive any m-advertisement on their smart phone. However, companies can see in m-commerce a way to differentiate themselves such as offering m-payment possibility.

Abstract:
We present a generalization of the classes of quasitilted and almost hereditary algebras, which we call m-quasitilted and m-almost hereditary algebras. For the latter one, we can obtain a trisection of their module categories determined by the following subcategories L^m = {X indecomposable; projective dimension of Y is at most m for each predecessor Y of X} and R = {X indecomposable; injective dimension of Y is at most 1 for each successor Y of X}. Moreover, if there exists a module E_m such that {X; Hom(E_m, \\tau X) = 0} = {X; projective dimension of X is at most m} then E_m is a sum of direct summands of modules in R and any path of indecomposable modules starting in a module E which is a direct summand of E_m and ending in a projective module can be refined to a path of irreducible morphisms, which is also sectional. This result on paths allow us to obtain a characterization for m-almost hereditary algebras in terms of their projective modules. It is also possible to prove that any m-quasitilted algebra with global dimension m+1 is a m-almost hereditary algebra and as a consequence we can obtain that any piecewise hereditary algebra of type mod H, for some hereditary algebra H, and with global dimension m+1 is m-almost hereditary. We present an example of a 2-almost hereditary which is not 2-quasitilted, which entails that the converse of the above mentioned result does not hold true. Thus we seek for conditions which can ensure that a given 2-almost hereditary is 2-quasitilted and, in particular, a piecewise hereditary algebra. For this, we use the correspondence obtained as an adaptation of results of Happel, Reiten and Smalo, which under certain assumptions shows that an algebra is an endomorphism algebra of a tilting object. It is shown that a 2-almost hereditary algebra with some other properties and satisfying (H1), (H2) and (H3) is 2-quasitilted.

Abstract:
This study based on ground inquiry through interviews and observations conducted mainly at Gennevilliers shows how extracurricular spaces such as Summer or leisure camps as well as schooling-aid programs practising active methods from new pedagogical trends are an experimental field towards democracy following John Dewey's concepts, understood like a continuous and daily experience of cooperation. These active methods allow young camp instructors to build themselves into responsible adults and at the same time offer children and teenagers the chance to be considered fully as social and moral actors. So, pedagogical practices developed after Education Nouvelle movements have contributed to modify the view on childhood by favouring a pedagogy based on affect and trust. They have found in extracurricular spaces a proper ground for their development. Nevertheless, these practices sometimes meet some problems to be installed when instructors find themselves unable to establish their relationship on trust with life-wounded teenagers

In this thesis I propose a self- assembly procedure called the Morphocell(M-Cell) assembly. This procedure is based on an assembly unit called the M-Cell. The M-Cell is comprised out of two components, the M-Block and the M-Clay (in which the M-Block is embedded). During the assembly procedure the M-Clay acts as the environment of the assembly for the M-Blocks. This allows a global, parallel assembly that is highly autonomous and has large error correcting capacities. When the assembly procedure is complete the M-Blocks have assembled into a spatial lattice. Then the M-Clay surrounds this lattice thus creating a solid object, the M-Object. The M-Object, which is the goal of this procedure, is a dynamic object that can be easily modified, expanded or dismantled. Furthermore, it can respond in various ways to its environment. This system was optimized though a feedback loop that was informed by constant digital and physical simulations. The findings of this thesis can have important applications in construction of structures in extreme-remote environments and in the fabrication-rapid prototyping field.

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This dissertation entitled “m-art: art_communication_mobile” is the result of both practical and theoretical research, whose goal was to study the relationship between art and mobile devices (cellphones, palmtops, netbooks) thereby strengthening the field of Art in Mobile Media, which we call m-art. We began our research addressing the connection between the presence of cameras in phones (cellcams) and the creative possibilities these devices have on the audiovisual field. We describe a brief history of the art work used by telecommunication networks (telematics) together with the changes experienced by mobile devices over the years. In Telematic Art, we witnessed the communication potential of art and argue that this connection extends the reach of the artist. We also investigate interactivity, a feature closely associated in works of arts and technology. Within the exploration of m-art, we highlight the qualities of connectivity, mobility, portability and ubiquity. Collaborative creation and free tools (hardware and software) was also observed within in the field of m-art. We believe that mobile devices represent the modern nomadic lifestyle marked by the displacement of urban space and the experiencing culture via digital communication technologies, cyberculture version 2.0 or mobile culture. In addition to this, the blending of physical urban space and data space on computer networks is experienced by artists of m-art by means of wireless mobile cinema and location based games. M-art explores the urban environment as an area of assessing and experiencing art, however, the m-artists are not limited to by the locative qualities given by these devices. We confirm, in our research, the trend of computers leaving tables to inhabit other spaces (including our pockets and bodies), as envisioned by Mark Weiser when he predicted a Post-Desktop Era and the incorporation of these devices by artists working in line with technological tools. Today cell phones are mobile computers and from the use of these devices artists m-art was born: an art with/for mobile devices.

Abstract: This experience in investigation-experimentation-creation is a invitation to the reader look for openings in pictures of scenes in the Chapada Diamantina(BA) that provide opportunities for the creation of written texts, new images and ideas based in undeveloped labyrinths our perceptions. Enigmatic maps and the seduction of the philosophy of Spinoza, Deleuze and Guattari are used to contrast with details and panoramas of natural scenery. The body visit them, guided by the literary musing expressed in the literature of Virginia Woolf, Artaud and Kafka. A body in creation will extrapolate from its experiences those aspects wich have led to leaps in percepts. What will remains of the body are incomplete compositions, which others will unravel as they engage themselves in their own creations.
