Abstract:
Background: Anaemia among under-5 children is a major public health issue worldwide. Some countries with a high prev- alence of anaemia also have high prevalence of malaria. Even though Lesotho does not have a high prevalence of malaria, its prevalence rate of anaemia is as high. According to the 2014 Lesotho Demographic and Health Survey (DHS), the prevalence of anaemia among children under-5 was 51%. Other factors could be influencing the prevalence of anaemia in Lesotho. Objectives: This study examined the household and individual risk factors of anaemia among children under-5 in Lesotho. Methods: Data from the 2014 Lesotho DHS which included 924 children under-5 years were analysed. Descriptive statistics, chi-square cross-tabulations and ordered logistic regression models were run using Stata v15. Results: Twenty-one percent (21%) of children under-5 had mild anaemia while 7% had severe-moderate anaemia. Children residing in households cooking with biogas (aOR=4.88, CI: 1.28-18.58) and those living in households that cook with bio- mass (aOR=4.22, CI: 1.40-12.67) had higher odds of severe-moderate anaemia. Conclusion: Using solid fuels for cooking increases the vulnerability of children under-5 developing anaemia. Therefore, knowledge of renewable energy resources should be increased. This will help reduce levels of anaemia among under-5 chil- dren in Lesotho. Keywords: Household and individual risk factors; anaemia; under-5 children; Lesotho.

Abstract:
Small enterprises represent a large proportion of enterprises in most economies and are a driving force for economic growth. Most small enterprises refrain from exporting due to a number of challenges. The aim of this study was to determine the exporting barriers perceived to constrain exporting from Lesotho-based manufacturing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The study adopted a cross-sectional descriptive design. Data were collected from 162 Lesotho-based manufacturing enterprises through a self-administered questionnaire. Factor analysis revealed three export barrier groupings, namely international, distribution, and financial constraints. The descriptive statistics showed that Lesotho-based manufacturing MSMEs perceive lack of financial resources for market research, lack of financial resources to finance export sales, and lack of excess capacity for exports, all internal to an enterprise-loading under financial barriers as constraints to exporting. The study added to the literature new classes of export barriers. The findings suggest that the government of Lesotho has to put in place mechanisms that can reduce financial constraints to enable MSMEs to contribute as expected.

Abstract:
The problem faced by the Central Bureau of Statistics is the remuneration that becomes the dependency of employees and the low work ethic. The problem causes employee performance is not optimal. This research uses quantitative analysis method with simple regression analysis tool, and multiple linear regression. The technique used in this research to obtain data about, is as follows: Interview and Questionnaire / Quesioner. The population of this study is all employees at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), which amounts to 100 people including the Head of Public Bureau. Census sampling technique with sample random sampling and the result of formula used to determine and sampling by Taro Yamane (in Riduwan, 2010: 249). Data analysis using linear regression analysis using SPSS statistical test to see the effect of remuneration and work ethic on Performance of State Civil Apparatus (ASN) at General Bureau of Statistics Center in 2016, with significant 10%.After passing the validity and reliability of the data, obtained the result that states that Remuneration partially affect on employee performance. Similarly, work ethics based on research shows a significant effect on employee performance. Based on the results of the study and research together Remuneration and Working Ethics have a positive and significant impact on Employee Performance on the General Bureau of the Central Bureau of Statistics. Central Bureau of Statistics General Bureau. The regression equation is: Y = 22,917 + 0,123 X1 + 518X2, where every increase of 1 score of variable X1 (remuneration) and X2 (work ethic) will increase employee performance equal to 0,123, and 0,518, assuming other variable is constant,

Abstract:
Federal statistical agencies in the United States and analogous agencies elsewhere commonly report official economic statistics as point estimates, without accompanying measures of error. Users of the statistics may incorrectly view them as error free or may incorrectly conjecture error magnitudes. This paper discusses strategies to mitigate misinterpretation of official statistics by communicating uncertainty to the public. Sampling error can be measured using established statistical principles. The challenge is to satisfactorily measure the various forms of nonsampling error. I find it useful to distinguish transitory statistical uncertainty, permanent statistical uncertainty, and conceptual uncertainty. I illustrate how each arises as the Bureau of Economic Analysis periodically revises GDP estimates, the Census Bureau generates household income statistics from surveys with nonresponse, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics seasonally adjusts employment statistics. I anchor my discussion of communication of uncertainty in the contribution of Oskar Morgenstern (1963a), who argued forcefully for agency publication of error estimates for official economic statistics. Abstract:
The article concerns ethical rules compiled by both public statistics and users of public statistics. Ethical rules in statistics are partly codified in the European Statistics Code of Practice published by Eurostat, the statistical bureau of the European Union. The implementation of this code is subject to periodical reviews. The second part of the paper deals with various manipulations of statistical data performed by their users. The thesis of the paper states that if non-ethical practices appear, either in public statistics or in manipulations by users, they are relatively quickly denounced. This thesis is supported by some empirical facts.

Abstract:
The overall question this article addresses is, “How can information providers facilitate access to and understanding of their information by the general public?” The context of this investigation is the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). We identify three kinds of barriers to finding and using statistical information: user understanding of data scope and availability, user understanding of statistical concepts, and a variety of conceptual and linguistic mismatches. We explore these barriers within three components of the BLS-user environment: communities of users, the scope of BLS information, and the relationship between the concepts and language of BLS and users. The resulting difficulties in information access and use are not unique to the BLS; they can occur any time that non-experts interact with an information-rich web site. The LABSTAT Crosswalk (LSC) is proposed as a solution to these problems, and we discuss its construction and some suggestions for its use. The paper concludes by discussing related problems and solutions, and points out the need for integrated help tools for end users.

Using of advanced network technology and information technology, a construction scheme for unified statistical information management platform is proposed in this paper. In the scheme, the business of municipal statistics bureau is used as the center, and the scientific statistical system is used as the core. The scheme can be used as the internal service system for the subordinate enterprises and the branch of statistics bureau, which can provide business of online direct report, online surveys, propaganda, consulting, announcements and other statistical information services. The efficiency and accuracy of statistical data reporting are improved, and the labor intensity of statistical work is reduced. This approach can be used to develop a standardized management system covering the whole field of statistical business.

This study assesses the outcomes of a process of planned change undertaken in a health care hospital environment in Lesotho in terms of service quality. A sample of 143 clinical and non-clinical employees from three of the largest regional hospitals within the Ministry of Health in Lesotho was drawn using cluster sampling. Data was collected using an adapted version of SERVQUAL whose psychometric properties were statistically determined. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicate that the process of transformation significantly contributed to all the sub-dimensions of service quality (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy) except the process before restructuring which did not contribute to responsiveness, assurance and empathy respectively. Furthermore, all the sub-dimensions of the process of transformation significantly impact on the different sub-dimensions of service quality, although not optimally

Abstract:
Many countries face policy challenges related to the well-being of their aging populations, and China, with the world's largest aging population, is no different. Over the past 40 years, China has experienced demographic transition toward an “aging society.” According to the National Bureau of Statistics in China (NBSC), the number of people aged 60 years and older in China has risen to 185 million, with rural areas aging more rapidly during China's demographic transition (National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2013). In 1982, the proportion of population aged 60 years and older was 7.8% in rural China and 7.1% in urban China. However, by 2011 these proportions had risen to 12.6% and 15.4%, respectively, with a national average of 13.26% (National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2013). Difference between rural and urban areas in the proportion of the population aged 65 years and older in China has shown a similar trend over time. Rapid economic reforms since the 1980s, associated with increased rural-to-urban migration, especially the outflow of rural young population, have resulted in a larger proportion of elderly adults in rural areas (Cai et al., 2012; National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2013). These same social forces have resulted in relatively fewer people available to take care of the growing population of older adults as well. The “elderly dependency ratio” (the ratio of older adults in China to those in the population of working age) has increased from 8.0% in 1982 to 12.7% in 2012 (National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2013). The economic and social impact on caregiving will be profound.

The criminal justice system, generally defined as the police, courts, and prisons, cries out for the attention of anthropology. The numbers of people involved are staggering. According to Bureau of Justice Statistics, the number of prisoners under federal or state correctional authorities in 1990 was more than 800,000 (a 134 percent increase over the past ten years). In July, 1990, Bureau of Justice Statistics indicated that the 245,562 offenders serving time in state prisons for crimes of violence had victimized an estimated 409,000 persons (including 79,300 persons killed).

Abstract:
Central Bureau of Statistics is one of the institutions that collect data in all fields and one of them is data of food crops. The Central Bureau of Statistics conducted the ubinan survey to obtain food crop data. Found some obstacles in the field in conducting ubinan survey. This can reduce the quality of food crop data if not quickly addressed. Given food crop data is very important for the life of the community, it takes a tool that can help the surveyor so that the data produced can be more quickly and accurately. In this research will be made an application with a given feature that is to store the coordinate point of survey implementation, to provide location information on harvest measurement in the field, to detect harvest income writing errors, display compass as a tool for determining the direction of the wind. So that the work of ubinan survey can be further improved the quality of food crop data in the Central Bureau of Statistics. Index Terms— Android, Survei, Ubinan, Tanaman Pangan.

Abstract:
The employer’s views have been sought on the quality of the National University of Lesotho (NUL) programmes in relation to addressing the concept of social responsibility. The employers’ views were sought through observing the quality of performance of the NUL graduates at the workplace and at the community engagements. The NUL designed programmes that are expected to address the societal needs, hence the reason why it is important to find out whether the programmes that prepared the graduates for the workplace have a successful outcome. A total of 150 employers in the Lesotho Ministries of Education and Training as well as Local Government and chieftainship in three of the ten districts of Lesotho formed the sample of the study. A two part questionnaire with four point likert scale of strongly agree and strongly disagree; highly satisfied and highly dissatisfied was designed to find out information on the employers’ perceptions on the performance of the NUL graduates in relation to social responsibility. Frequency counts analysis with descriptive statistics was employed to indicate the results of the study. Research results confirmed that the NUL programmes have deficiencies in moulding all graduates with competence in social responsibility. It was observed that there were graduates that have achieved the social responsibility skills, but there are those graduates who still require further training on the issue of social responsibility. It is therefore recommended that the NUL should periodically review its programmes in order to prepare a well rounded graduate that could be a community developer.

Abstract:
Objectives. To assess the quality of population-level US mortality data in the US Census Bureau Numerical Identification file (Numident) and describe the details of the mortality information as well as the novel person-level linkages available when using the Census Numident. Methods. We compared all-cause mortality in the Census Numident to published vital statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We provide detailed information on the linkage of the Census Numident to other Census Bureau survey, administrative, and economic data. Results. Death counts in the Census Numident are similar to those from published mortality vital statistics. Yearly comparisons show that the Census Numident captures more deaths since 1997, and coverage is slightly lower going back in time. Weekly estimates show similar trends from both data sets. Conclusions. The Census Numident is a high-quality and timely source of data to study all-cause mortality. The Census Bureau makes available a vast and rich set of restricted-use, individual-level data linked to the Census Numident for researchers to use. Public Health Implications. The Census Numident linked to data available from the Census Bureau provides infrastructure for doing evidence-based public health policy research on mortality.
