Abstract:

This paper analyzes threats and opportunities in sustainable irrigation development in Lesotho. The addressed research question is what threats and opportunities are there in irrigation projects backed by the government of Lesotho (GoL) for sustainable development and income generation in the rural areas for subsistence farmers. Threats to irrigation projects pose a problematic situation with a high possibility for project failure in attaining sustainable development. They need to be analytically identified for the provision of solutions at the project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes. The study has adopted the in-depth interviews for problems and opportunities identification with the participation of 63 irrigating farmers as respondents. Revealing threats against opportunities enable proper irrigation projects planning and implementation and therefore successful and sustainable irrigation development in Lesotho. Indepth field interviewsâ€™findings are on farmers in eight project sites selected by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) for further irrigation development with the backing of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The eight sites are (1) Semonkong Ha Lesala and (2) Semonkong Ha Sechache, in Maseru district, (3) Ha Rasekila in Butha-Buthe district, (4) Qopo Ha Molefi in Berea district, (5) Maphutseng in Mohaleâ€™s Hoek district, (8) Qhoalinyane Ha Semethe and (7) Qhoalinyane, in Qachaâ€™s Nek district, and lastly (8) Ha Makoae in Quthing district. The main implementing agency for this Water Control Component of the Special Programme for Food Security is the MoA in Lesotho.

Abstract:

Death from hunger in the world may overcome the number of deaths in conventionalwar. Therefore, food should be considered a National Security core issue of anycountry. Abstract:

Food is the main basic need of human, because of that fulfillment of human need of food has to be fulfilled. So it can fulfill that need, then government institution, Food Security Agency (BKP) is formed so it can monitor fulfillment of food need of society. The goals of this writing are to develop food security information system that provides dashboard facility based on business intelligence, to develop food security information system that can give fast, precise and real time information about food security, to develop decision-making support system for chairman in food security institution. Data is obtained from questionnaires to 51 respondents that are chairmen in Food Security Agency. Data is analyzed with SWOT analysis method for business environment and IT balanced scorecard (IT BSC) for IS/IT environment. The result of analysis of food security information system in Food Security Agency can help chairman in decision-making by presenting information about dashboard that gives fast, precise and real time information. It can be concluded that development of information is successfully done.

Abstract:

There are several stages associated with fundamental changes in arrangement and production technologies for the development of agricultural production in the Republic of Belarus. Each of the stage was associated with achievements of scientific and technological progress and had important social and economic consequences. The paper dwells on the stages of agriculture development in the Republic of Belarus since 1919 to the present days. The basic transformations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food as a body for state administration of agriculture are covered. It is shown that nowadays the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus performs absolutely greater part of functions in the field of state agriculture management, in particular: administration, economic regulation, legal regulation, state agricultural policy, state control. It is known that high level of agro-industrial complex development guarantees the food security of the state, therefore, political independence and sovereignty as well. Over the years of the sovereign existence, the Republic of Belarus has been able to restore and develop agriculture, ensuring the country’s food security, as well as become an important exporter of food and agricultural products. Thus, the achieved results of agricultural production confirm the right chosen course aimed at intensive methods of work based on achievements of science and technology.

Abstract:

In Nepal, two thirds of the total population depend on agriculture for their livelihoods and more than one third of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) comes from the agriculture sector. However, effective agriculture production across the country remains a serious challenge due to various factors, such as a high degree of spatial and temporal climate variability, irrigated and rain-fed agriculture systems, farmers' fragile social and economic fabric, and unique mountain practices. ICIMOD through SERVIR-Himalaya initiative with collaboration of Ministry of Agricultural Development (MoAD) is working on developing a comprehensive crop monitoring system which aims to provide timely information on crop growth and drought development conditions. This system analyzes historical climate and crop conditions patterns and compares this data with the current growing season to provide timely assessment of crop growth. Using remote sensing data for vegetation indices, temperature and rainfall, the system generated anomaly maps are inferred to predict the increase or shortfall in production. Comparisons can be made both spatially and in graphs and figures at district and Village Developmental Committee (VDC) levels. Timely information on possible anomaly in crop production is later used by the institutions like Ministry of Agricultural Development, Nepal and World Food Programme, Nepal to trigger appropriate management response. Future potential includes integrating data on agricultural inputs, socioeconomics, demographics, and transportation to holistically assess food security in the region served by SERVIR-Himalaya.

Abstract:

Urban agriculture plays a significant role in national development by contributing towards food security, job creation, and income generation. This study aims to assess the effect of unemployment records in graduated students in the recovery of the agricultural sector and the input to food security. A combination of both quantitative and qualitative research methods was employed in this study. In the quantitative design, 129 randomly selected urban farmers, completed the self-administered close-ended questionnaires, whereas the statistical analysis presents the socio-demographic, economic, and other aspects of the households. Based on the study result, around 2500 students graduated annually from 29 high educational institutes in Gaza Strip. The unemployment rate is around 41%, therefore the graduated students found that urban agriculture is contributing to create more jobs opportunities and improving household income. The analysis showed that 18% of the urban farmers are illiterate, 31% passed primary education, 25% passed secondary education, and 26% are holding university degrees in different fields. It is highly recommend to include urban agriculture in the future plans of the ministry of labours, ministry of agriculture, and all relevant institutions to overcome the high unemployment records and to alleviate poverty in Gaza.

Abstract:

At present, the main landmark of state agrarian policy is the transformation of Russian agriculture into an innovative, competitive, institutionally developed industry. Agriculture belongs to the category of life-supporting industries responsible for food security, both throughout the country and regions. In modern conditions, the priority tasks of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia are: ensuring the competitiveness of the agricultural industry, achieving full self-sufficiency in basic food products, and therefore, studying the factors that can increase the competitiveness of the agricultural industry are subject to analysis and systematization. Accord-ing to the results of the study, the modernization of the mechanism of state support for agricul-tural enterprises is proposed.

AbstractLivestock sector is the backbone of Indian agriculture and plays a crucial role in the development of the rural economy. More than one-fifth (23%) of agricultural households with area less than 0.01 hectare reported livestock as their principal source of income (GoI Government of India (2014) Key indicators of situation of agricultural). Livestock is one of the fastest-growing sectors of Indian agriculture. While the share of overall agriculture and allied sectors in Gross Value Added (GVA) declined from 18.2% in 2014–15 to 17.8% in 2019–20, the share of livestock sector in GVA increased from 4.4% to 5.1% in the same period (GoI Government of India (2021) The economic survey (2020–21). Ministry of Finance. Government of India). Livestock sector accounts for 31% of the gross value of output in agriculture and allied sector (GVOA). Within livestock, milk is the biggest component with 20% share in GVOA. In fact, milk is the largest agriculture commodity in terms of value of output worth INR 772,705 crores in 2018–19 which was more than the value of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and sugarcane combined worth INR 623,462 crores (MoSPI. (2021). National Accounts Statistics 2020. Central Statistical Organization. Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.). Around 70 million of rural households are engaged in milk production, most of them are landless, marginal, and small farmers (NCAER. (2020). Analyzing Socio-Economic Impact of National Dairy Plan—I. As a source of livelihood for million of poor households, dairying also supplements their dietary sources of protein and nutrition thus playing a critical role in the country’s food security needs.

Abstract:

The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) at Qatar University is implementing the agricultural census in Qatar (2021), which is funded by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. Agricultural census is a statistical process based on collecting, processing, and disseminating data on the structure of agriculture, which often covers the whole country or a large part of it. It usually involves collecting agricultural data such as the size of properties, land usage, cropping areas, irrigation, number of farm animals, resources, and manpower. Censuses are conducted regularly every ten years to provide more recent data for agricultural policy purposes. The data provided by the census is important for food security policies and Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims at the development and expansion of the agricultural sector. This requires the introduction of “finest practices” and an agricultural business model focused on economic efficiency, profitable and sustainable agriculture, optimal use of scarce resources, and a minimal impact on the environment. The objectives of the project are summarized as follows: • Provide sample frame for agricultural surveys. • Provide data of agriculture structure in the State of Qatar, which include properties, resources, production, and cost. • Provide up-to-date data for crops, vegetables, livestock, and used areas.

Abstract:

Agrarian sector occupies a special place in the structure of the economy. The article presents the characteristics of this segment and its infrastructure in Ukraine. The transition to a market economy requires the formation of an appropriate market environment, without which the civilized market and agrarian, in the first place, cannot work normally. Agrarian producers independently choose channels for selling their products, forms of sales and sales of resources and use various intermediary structures in their economic activities. All these activities lead to the need to collect, accumulate and process growing information streams that farms have to use efficiently and in a timely manner. The harmonious development of the entire system of social production and food security of the country depends on the effective functioning of all available infrastructure components. Based on the foregoing, it is possible to understand that this topic is extremely important and require the research. The goal of the article is to investigate the condition of the agricultural market and its infrastructure in Ukraine. It was described the main problems of agriculture. To make the research about the topic, it was necessary to use data from the official site of State Statistic Service of Ukraine. It was analyzed the project Strategy for the development of the agrarian sector in Ukrainian economy for the period up to 2020. This project is developed by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. Also, it was needful to use synthesis, analysis, deduction, induction, and comparison methods. As a result of research, we described possible ways to resolve main problems in this sphere, made the analysis of the main statistical data which are related to the agrarian sector.
