Abstract:
The diploma thesis focuses on the topic of the economic education in the 50s of the 20th century. The issue is analyzed on the example of the University of Economics in Prague. The establishment of the University of Economics became an important milestone for the economic education in Czechoslovakia. The University of Economics was established in 1953 on the basis of the governmental regulation from 19th August 1952 No. 40/1952 Coll. regarding another changes in the organization of universities. It was stated that the studies would be for four years and the students would be able to choose from five faculties. This school was set up after the previous difficult development on the ground of the universities. The establishment of the University of Economics forewent cancelation, renaming and the establishment of different universities. These universities also concentrated on schooling in the area of economics. The legacy of the University of Economics can be seen in the continuity to the venerable University of Commerce, which belonged among the successful universities in our state. Furthermore, it undoubtedly helped to develop the origins of economics as a branch of science. The schooling on the universities in the 50s was influenced by Marxist-Leninist ideology, which was perceived as general truth at the time. The aim of the thesis is to clarify whether the University of Economics contributed to the development of the economic education in the 50s. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of the applied methodology. The applied methodology is a collection of knowledge - a social history. Moreover, there are discussed institutions and legislations foregoing the establishment of the University of Economics. In the practical part of the thesis is described the state of economics as a science in the 50s in Czechoslovakia and the importance of Marxism-Leninism and political economics for economy. In addition, there is outlined the development of economics as science during a certain period of time.

The paper gives an account of the German secondary education in Brno during the years 1918-1945. The secondary education, within this paper, comprises training schools for teachers and technical and business schools as well. The paper examines the schools in Brno from diverse points of view (number of students, their religion and mother tongue, the percentage of female students, school financing and school fees, marking, …) and aims to describe the history of the schools and the relations among them. The source materials are primarily composed of documents written in German (school annual reports, anniversary memory books, principal and class registers, chronicles) and literature on secondary education of that period (predominantly by R. Neuhöfer). The work may serve as a basis for comparative works (to be compared with the Czech secondary schools in Brno, German secondary schools in Prague, etc.).

The theme of this thesis is History of School of Applied Arts studios in Prague between 1885 and 1910. The thesis focuses mainly on style development at the crucial point of turning of the century. This period was the turning point when advanced school's art manifested and also time of generation change that transformed overall school atmosphere. A specific contribution of this thesis lies in outlining less known specialized schools, with inclusion of female element, which are factors that were not previously described elsewhere, as well as in attempt to find methodical and development analogies between Prague and Vienna School of Applied Arts. The aim of my thesis was to assess exceptional status of the school, especially in context of Czech educational system of decorative arts, and to evaluate historical context based on detailed archive research. I included in the thesis a comprehensive list of students of general and specialized schools of decorative arts, thus creating a foundation for future researchers on individual artistic personalities. Study of development of School of Applied Arts is an analytical synthesis presenting the specific role of decorative arts and crafts in pre-WWI era.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with a reform of Czech higher education after the Second World War. While traditional treatments follow the communist experiment from its beginnings until its 'inevitable' downfall in 1989, this work focuses on its roots and end with the adoption of the new Higher Education Act in 1950. This reversal of perspective reveals similarities between the communist reform and modernisation trends which influenced the development of higher education also in the West. We follow the discussion about the future of higher education, which went on in 1930s-1950s, try to see how universities tried to approach the tension between their freedoms and demands for serving the public, and analyse the way in which the communist reform responded to this issue. Czech higher education was formed by Humboldtian principles, which were partly implemented in mid-19th century. During the interwar period, this framework basically remained in place: higher education developed in terms of quantity rather than quality but certain problems with demanded attention also started coming to the fore. Attempts by the Ministry of Education to implement partial reforms met with resistance from the academic institutions and many academics focused on passionately defending the autonomy of universities. During the wartime, the...

Abstract:
This proposed thesis is dedicated to the development of "Zátka's grammar school" from 1884 - 1914 in the city of České Budějovice. The goal of this first work is to explore the establishment of this school that ceased educating youth more than half a century ago. The grammar school arose in response to the controversies among Czech-german society which influenced the education of the czech youth not only in the southern Bohemia but elsewhere. This thesis is based on thorough and careful studies of specialized literature and archival materials stored in the State District Archives in České Budějovice. It consists of nine chapters that are further divided into two major sections. The first chapter is dedicated to the history of the city of České Budějovice and the development of education in general, with special attention given to education within the city itself and to the well-known celebrity and initiator of the Czech grammar school, August Zátka. This section thus provides the historical context necessary for the ensuing chapters. The second part addresses the establishment and growth of the Czech grammar school in České Budějovice. Moreover, this part is especially dedicated not only to the students of the school, but also to the teachers who taught there during the period with which this thesis is concerned. Overall, this thesis offers new insights about the "great history" of the school: its origin, development, and importance, in particular, its establishment in the South Bohemian Region. Additionally, this thesis provides the reader with many interesting facts about the daily activities within the grammar school.

Abstract:
Foreign policy of Czechoslovakia in 70's and 80's depended completely on the policy of the Soviet union and its promoted ideology. The Czechoslovak socialist republic preserved the narrowest relationship with the Soviet union and its sattelite states in Eastern Europe, while the relationship with the western countries oriented to co-operation with the United states, was very cold and was beeing restored very slowly and gradually. The developing countries, especially those heading to a socialist establishment, had a special position in Czechoslovak foreign policy. Especially these countries benefited from Czechoslovak aid such as financial, military or material support. Another way Czechoslovakia implemented its development aid was offering scholarships for university students. The purpose of this form of aid was to contribute to the progress of developing countries, most of whom gained independence recently. Simultaneously the policy pursued another aim - to spread the socialist ideology and the influlence of the Soviet union around the world. Hundreds of foreign students studied in Czechoslovak universities every year during 70's and 80's. Most of them came from so called developing countries. Although it captures only a very short period of time from the rich history of the Czech journalist associations, we believe that this is a crucial period. The work is divided into nine chapters. The introductory chapter focuses on the preparation of the establishment of a new journalistic organization. The second chapter deals with the process of "cleansing" in which journalists organization examined journalists and punish their activities during the Nazi occupation. The third chapter describes the process of creating of post-war media legislation, particularly the role that a journalistic organization played in this process. The fourth chapter focuses on the most important moments of internal community life. The fifth chapter is devoted to the Association of imprisoned journalists. The sixth chapter deals with the renewed activity of journalistic organizations in the international forum. It focuses in particular on the International Organization of Journalists (IOJ) in Prague in 1947. The seventh chapter examines the financial situation, and especially union activities in acquiring real...

Abstract:
The paper deals with the use of unmanned aircraft of the American national security policy. It examines the history of unmanned aviation, its military use, and cost- efficiency. It then examines the main obstacles and problems with their use in national security that this technology meets and will meet in the future after a higher level of autonomy is developed. These problems involve legal issues, international and domestic American law, the issue of civilian casualties, the role of the media, and public opinion. The final chapter focuses on the problems of technical, strategic and operational issues. In this section the research paper comes to the first conclusion which claims that the introduction of more autonomous systems to war will radically change its structure and, consequently, standard procedures and strategies. Case studies are included to illustrate how successful the drone strategy is applied in the five countries where the United States leads a war on terror. The research using the theory of the revolution in military affairs concludes that these UAVs pose the greatest challenge in history and it goes well beyond military matters. UAVs in national security affect the understanding of the basic principles of war in relation to the concepts of warrior ethos and just war.

Abstract:
China and USA in UN Peace Operations in 1989-2010 Mgr. Jitka Evanová Summary The thesis discusses the growing role of China and decreasing role of USA in UN peace operations since 1989 with the aim to find the reasons behind their behavior. First, two chosen theories of international relations - neorealism and its modified version and English school - are described, independent variables determined and consequent hypotheses formulated. Second, the increasing Chinese and decreasing American activities in UN peace operations is shown by describing their gradually changing behavior in three areas: voting in the Security Council, personnel contributions to peacekeeping operations and financial contributions to the UN peacekeeping budget. Third, the hypotheses are tested using the congruence method that examines the explanatory power of the theories. If a reality is consistent with the hypotheses' prediction, there is a possiblity of a causal relationship between independent variable and the dependent one. I conclude that modified neorealim has the highest explanatory power as its predictions are consistent with the outcome in both cases. English school can to a certain degree explain Chinese behavior but is weak in the American case. Neorealist predictions are weak in both cases. In the end, I suggest possible...

Abstract:
Dorota T. Moravská ABSTRACT: Diploma thesis "(De)securitization of the 'Jewish question' in Slovakia in the years 1945- 1948" examines how society in the post-war period approached the "Jewish question" from the perspective of the securitization theory. The thesis recognizes domestic and foreign dimension of the process and shows that in the society contradictory tendencies were present at the same time - while in the area of foreign policy people involved exerted pressure on the Slovak political elites to desecuritize the question, in the area of domestic relations the "involved public" took steps in the opposite direction. For this reason, the political elites were forced to face a (de)securitization dilemma. The thesis emphasizes the significance of social and historical context in which the process is anchored and in this light it observes the historical continuity of formation and development of the "Jewish question" in Slovakia, which is set in contrast to a radical change in the social context of the post-war period when the restitution of the Jewish property turned out to be a key factor influencing the course of events. As a result of post-war anti-Jewish moves and acts of violence against Jewish minority the "Jewish question" was politicized became a "necessity and urgency". Therefore the expected...

Abstract:
The main subject of the thesis are the beginnings of the studio founded by J. V. Myslbek at the Academy of Arts in Prague in 1896. Firstly, the personality of J. V. Myslbek and his evolution as an artist since the early sixties of the 19th century are being discussed. This part covers Myslbek's trip to Paris in 1878 and his friendship with Vojtech Hynais, which helped him gain a deeper understanding of the contemporary French sculpture and which was vital to the stylistic formation of his sculpture "Music" (created between 1891 and 1907, during Myslbek's presence at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design and at the Academy of Arts). Myslbek's first students at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design were influenced by his lyrical conception; the generation of Maratka's classmates have followed their teacher to the newly established Academy of Arts. Around 1900 sharp controversies between the teacher and his students have arised - these in retrograde seem to be essential for their future success. Graduates of the College of Stonemasonry and Sculpture in Horice were among the students of the sculpture studio at the Academy of Arts in Prague. Their previous training laid an ideal foundation for artistic growth under the tuition of Myslbek, who have stressed the importance of craft, which...

This work focuses on foreign college students in former Czechoslovakia, coming from so-called developing countries. It portrays the students' daily life, their relationships and conflicts, as well as their coexistence alongside the Czechoslovak population. Firstly, it will be necessary for us to pinpoint the subjects the foreigners studied, and then identify university archives used as research sources (tentatively, sources are available from Charles University and the Universita 17. listopadu university in Prague). Besides their studies, this work focuses on the students' life at the dormitories, their conflicts, and their cultural and social life. The research will, naturally, have to be put into context of Czechoslovakia's strategies and ambitions in the international politics, especially in relation to the so- called developing countries. Abstract:
This theoretical and empirical interdisciplinary thesis examines censorship in cinematographic import to Czechoslovakia during the 1960s and 70s. Specifically we focus on English-spoken movies dubbed into Czech. The thesis summarizes existing theoretical research on the present topic and complements it with data acquired through interviews with contemporary witnesses. This information is then used for an analysis of two movies released to cinemas in Czechoslovakia during the researched period - The Entertainer (in Czech Komik, 1960) and Twelve Angry Men (in Czech Dvanáct rozhněvaných mužů, 1957). The thesis ends with a comparison of these two dubbings in their respective context and of the 1960s and 1970s from the perspective of the Czechoslovak dubbing. Finally, it offers several topics for further research.
