The mask has always been a magic symbol, directly connected with a religious archaic context. It has been used especially during the celebrations related to the seasonal cycles and to the fertility of the fields. Nella tesi di dottorato Giudeofobia e Romanzo Antinichilista nella Russia di Fine Ottocento abbiamo studiato il nucleo giudeofobico dei romanzi antinichilisti dopo la guerra russo-turca (1877-1878) e i sentimenti antisemiti particolarmente espressi dalla “paura dell’ebreo”: nel primo caso si tratta della cosiddetta “giudeofobia oggettiva”, che si focalizzava principalmente sulle reali relazioni economiche tra gli ebrei russi e il resto della popolazione; nel secondo caso della “giudeofobia occulta”, il cui scopo era di dimostrare l’esistenza di una cospirazione ebraica mondiale contro la Russi

L'oggetto della ricerca riguarda un periodo della storia artistica italiana poco studiato, ovvero le esposizioni d'arte umoristica e di caricatura che si sono svolte nelle maggiori città italiane, dal 1878 al 1919. Il lavoro viene suddiviso in una parte generale, relativa alla pratica caricaturale nel tempo, dopodiché si andranno ad approfondire i singoli eventi d'arte umoristica e di caricatura, fornendo non solo indicazioni pervenute dallo studio dei documenti scritti, ma anche corredando la tesi con un consistente corpus figurativo.

Between 1870 and 1899 in Italy 1051 writers published 2545 new novels in Italian. This research is focused on a database that collects data about those books and their authors. In this way we delineate a comprehensive overview of the Italian fiction literature of the late nineteenth century, bypassing the canonization of literary history.
