Grundtvig og LetlandAf Ingrid SokolovaForfatteren har været professor i litteratur ved universitetet i Riga. Gennem de seneste år har hun været leder for en lettisk folkehøjskole i Murmuizha. Denne skole blev grundlagt i mellemkrigsårene efter grundtvigsk forbillede, efter at en lettisk foregangsmand, Paul Peterson, i 1920’rne kunne knytte forbindelser til højskolen i Ollerup og modtage inspiration derfra. I mellemkrigsperioden var der gode muligheder for at f.re den slags idealer ud i livet, og der blev faktisk grundlagt en række folkehøjskoler i Letland, skoler der alle havde forbindelse til universitetet i Riga.De 50 år under sovjetisk overherredømme gjorde det imidlertid stadig vanskeligere at holde liv i den lettiske højskolebevægelse. Ikke desto mindre overvintrede idealerne, og i de seneste år har de på ny kunnet hentes frem under kampen for national selvstændighed, for at g.re uhindret brug af det lettiske modersmål og for i det hele taget at kunne formulere det program for humanisme og frihed, som professor Sokolova ser som det bærende idegrundlag hos Grundtvig. Hun går sig ingen illusioner om en let overgang til frihed og selvstændighed efter den kommunistiske æra. Men hun ser de grundtvigske idealer som en nødvendig bestanddel af den fremtidsvision, der skal g.re det muligt at overvinde vanskelighederne i forbindelse med det ideologiske vakuum efter kommunismens fald og nødvendigheden af at formulere et nyt sæt idealer.Hun omtaler den lettiske forfatter, Zenta Maurina, der levede en stor del af sit liv i eksil i Tyskland og opnåede betydelig anerkendelse, også uden for Letland. Zenta Maurina var gennem en række leder af folkehøjskolen i Murmuizha, men dengang havde skolen yderst vanskelige kår; en tid måtte den endda lukkes. Efter liberaliseringen under Gorbachov og nu senest under den nationale selvstændiggørelse er det atter blevet muligt at f.re de grundtvigske tanker frem.

Abstract:

Cultural-historical and literary gestalt in the Latvian short story “Saint Birgitta” (“Heliga Birgitta”) by Jānis EzeriņšThe Latvian author Jānis Ezeriņš’s (1891–1924) literary heritage includes, among other texts, the collection of short stories Fantastiska novele un citas (Fantastic short story and others, 1923). The collection contains the short story “Svētā Briģita” (“Saint Birgitta”), in which the author has used the image of a saint, which is very well known in the history of culture, literature and religion. The image can be related both to Celtic mythology and the historical Swedish personality, who had been the founder of Vadstena monastery and a literary author herself (approx. 1303–1373). The aim of the article is to explore the function of the image in the prose text by the Latvian author Ezeriņš and its connections with the cultural and historical personality of St. Birgitta. It is not typical of Ezeriņš’s writings to make such an explicit and direct association with this kind of legendary phenomena, therefore the inclusion of the text in the collection may suggest a connection between St. Birgitta’s individual destiny and enduring human values. This writer’s choice can also be seen as his own claim to international recognition.

A Krasnoselskii-type iterative sequence is shown toΔ-converge to a common fixed point of the familyTi,i=1,2,…,m. Strong convergence theorems are also proved under some additional conditions. Our theorems complement and extend several recent important results on approximation of fixed points of certain nonlinear mappings in CAT(0)spaces. Furthermore, our method of the proof is of special interest.

Ornitoloģiskajā literatūrā drošas liecības par stārķu klātbūtni Latvijas teritorijā rodamas no 18. gadsimta publikācijām, taču tiek minēts, ka melnais stārķis vismaz Kurzemē bijis sastopams arī iepriekš. 17.–19. gadsimta latviešu valodas vēsturiskajās vārdnīcās iekļauti 15 nosaukumi ar fonētiskajiem un morfoloģiskajiem variantiem, sākot ar G. Manceļa „Phraseologia Lettica”. K. Mīlenbaha un J. Endzelīna „Latviešu valodas vārdnīcā” un tās papildinājumos iekļauti gandrīz visi 17.-19. vārdnīcās minētie stārķa apzīmējumi, atsevišķos šķirkļos izdalot vairākus fonētiskos un morfoloģiskos variantus.

Abstract:

Anaerobic treatment is well over 100 years old. Its initial development was for the treatment of domestic wastewaters, using anaerobic filters and hybrid processes that are still of interest today. It then progressed in application to separate sludge digestion, then to treatment of dilute industrial wastewaters. Several processes have been developed that accomplish efficient treatment of wastewaters at short detention times. Major contributions to the broad application of anaerobic treatment and the better understanding of this process has come from efforts by G. Lettinga and his colleagues. They have emphasized its importance for meeting the need for sustainable development in the future. Greater efforts are now needed for broad application of anaerobic treatment for ridding the environment of unwanted organic materials by converting them into methane, a renewable energy source.

Abstract:

Pook se Bos informal settlement and the Cape Town Water & Sanitation Services Department are partnering on an urban sanitation project with a Dutch Consortium consisting of Lettinga Associates Foundation (LeAF), Landustrie Sneek and Vitens-Evides International. The aim of the project is to improve the basic sanitation services provided in informal settlements through the implementation of the MobiSan approach. The approach consists of a communal Urine-Diversion and Dehydration Toilet (UDDT) built in a former sea shipping container. The system is independent of water, electricity or sewerage connection and it is maintained by full-time community caretakers who also act as hygiene promoters. The project seeks to link sanitation services with hygiene promotion in informal settlements while enhancing user satisfaction and reducing costs in providing basic sanitation services. This paper describes the preliminary experiences and lessons learnt during the implementation and evaluation of the MobiSan prototype and discusses its potential for replication. The MobiSan has proved to be an appropriate option by means of dealing successfully with shallow groundwater table, land availability and high settlement densities. In addition it has been demonstrated to be cost-competitive in terms of operating cost compared to chemical toilets.

National identitet og udfordringen for den lettiske kirke idagAf Guntis DislersForfatteren er præst i den lutherske kirke i Letland og har gennem de seneste år været ansvarlig for at pleje forbindelsen til kirker i udlandet, nu hvor sådanne relationer kan etableres og plejes.Guntis Dislers gennemgår i en række punkter hovedtræk af den aktuelle religiøse situation i Letland. Det er hans hovedsynspunkt, at livsanskuelsessituationen er broget, om ikke ligefrem uoverskuelig. Det skyldes, at de religiøse kræfter, der var bundet under kommunismens totalit.re undertrykkelsessystem, nu slippes fri, med en løbsk aktivitet til følge. Ud over de kirker og trosretninger, der traditionelt har spillet en rolle i Letland, drejer det sig også om en form for nyhedenskab med rødder i urgammel, indoeuroæiske mytologi. Desuden går ny-religiøse grupperinger, både af indisk og af amerikansk oprindelse, sig kraftigt gældende. Ikke mindst den frie adgang til at gøre brug af de elektroniske medier indebærer, at der har åbnet sig et kolossalt virkefelt for nye religiøse vækkelsesgrupper, der kan lukrere p. det, der har nyhedens interesse, og som samtidig besidder de penge, der skal til for at lancere deres program.Forfatteren inddrager i sin redegørelse de træk i Letlands nationale historie, der forklarer landets kirkehistoriske udvikling. Ikke mindst har påvirkningen fra Tyskland spillet en rolle, i perioder sammen med en politisk afhængighed. Til den modsatte side har naboskabet med Rusland og forholdet til den ortodokse kirke været en mindst lige så afgørende faktor. Den lutherske kirke i Letland har i dette perspektiv været knyttet til den nationale selvstændighedstanke, et forhold, der også har gjort sig gældende under den allerseneste udvikling.Afsluttende omtaler Guntis Dislers i hovedtræk den aktuelle situation. Han går specielt ind p. behovet for at uddanne teologer og præster. Nu er der adgang for en forsvarlig uddannelse, efter at et teologisk fakultet fik officiel status i 1990. Endvidere nævnes behovet for kirkelig undervisning af lægfolket, kirkelige tidsskrifter og aviser, samt det ikke mindre udtalte behov for at opbygge internationale, økumeniske kontakter.

Abstract:

This article aims to explore the phenomenon of political violence at Egyptian universities after the downfall of the Muslim Brotherhood regime on June 30, 2013. It is a critical analysis to identify the underlying causes and factors leading to this excessive violence and its impact on the Egyptian universities. The article drew on qualitative methods by interviewing 16 Muslim Brotherhood students from four public universities. The results indicate that frustration, injustice, the collapse of democracy, and interference of the security in universities played an initial role in the studentsâ€™ violent behaviors. The forms of violence varied from clashes, throwing stones, and destroying university facilities and infrastructure. The effects of violence on the university were large such as, cancelling study several times, eliminating student political and cultural activities, infrastructure losses, and many arrests, injuries and victims between students and staff. Abstract:

The development of the terminology of each language depends on the socio-cultural conditions in which the carriers of this idiom live. This is a major factor affecting the configuration of the entire terminology system, and the features of its individual parts, and the general tradition of terminology, serving as one of the parties to standardize the literary language. An example of such a establishedness can be the difficult and controversial formation of terminology in the language of the colonized people, which by any cultural acts, even at first glance, the capitulatory, hides the general idea of its resistance to the dominant language and culture. In the social typology of languages, national terminology plays a prominent role, since it affects the characterization of several relevant attributes of the idiom. Terminology directly depends and at the same time to a certain extent determines the power of foreign-language influences, the communicative sphere of language, and also indirectly determines the degree of tradition of the idiom. In other words, it affects half of the parameters required to create a language characteristic by the methods of social typology. Certainly, throughout all history these parameters do not remain constant, vary depending on cultural-historical conditions. Belarusian linguistics has a long tradition of studying the principles and methods of creating terminology. However, terminology in Belarus as an independent scientific discipline was formed only in the second half of the twentieth century. Based on various sources, researchers analyzed botanical, grammatical, entomological, agricultural, philosophical, legal, automotive, water transport, and others varieties of terminology in the Belarusian language. However, the problem of the perception of Ukrainian traditions in the Belarusian terminology has still little studied. In the scientific level, the issues of foreign-language influences on the lexical subsystem of the new Belarusian literary language (respectively, and on the Belarusian terminology) were first raised in the 1920’s when there were active processes of codification of the idiom. Purposeful and scientifically substantiated Belarusian terminology was initiated in 1921-1922, since it was at this time that the first (mathematical) dictionary from the series “Belarusian Scientific Terminology”, as well as 8 terminological collections containing materials on grammar, logic, arithmetic, algebra, botany, geometry, trigonometry. However, the general codification, and hence the beginning of the terms of the Belarusian language, was initiated in 1918, during the First World War, when under the auspices of the occupation headquarters of the German Army in the East, was printed “Sieben-Sprachen Wörterbuch: Deutsch, Polnisch, Russisch, Weißruthenisch, Litauisch, Lettisch, Jiddisch”, is also known in the history of lexicography as “The Lexicon of the Belarusian Language in German Processing”, or the Seven-language Glossary. Vilnius (in the Belarusian tradition for the name of this city was used exonym Vilna) played the role of the leading cultural centre in the Belarusian national revival until the 1930s. In the first half of the 20’s of the twentieth century the study literature originally came out in Vilnius, but only later – in Minsk, which was separated from the western Belarusian lands by the state Polish-Soviet border (in fact since 1919, legally since 1921 – after the signing of the Riga Peace Treaty). Terminology created in the western Belarusian lands during the 1920’s was freely used in Soviet Belarus. Ukrainian influences on Belarusian terminology were not limited to only one era, alternating throughout the period of the formation and development of a new Belarusian literary language. Let’s say they are quite expressive in the nineteenth century, in the 20’s and 30’s of the twentieth century. As a result, a number of elements of Ukrainian origin have been consolidated in the Belarusian linguistic terminology. After the language reform of 1933 and up to our time, the researchers of Belarus mostly focused on studying the role of the Russian language as the main source of borrowing in the field of Belarusian terminology. The influence of Ukrainian tradition on the terminological system of the Belarusian language from the second half of the twentieth century gradually weakens, but it does not fade well in our time. The study of this problem in a wide range of Belarusian texts will allow us to show in which groups of lexicon the perception of Ukrainian traditions are most entrenched.

Dessa forma, através da exposição dos modelos legal, atitudinal e estratégico, explicativos da tomada de decisão judicial, apresenta as Cortes não apenas como interlocutoras externas, mas sobretudo como tribunais colegiados deliberativos, a fim de enfatizar a importância da deliberação colegiada para a legitimidade da jurisdição constitucional e a qualidade da sua performance. ABSTRACT: The article assumes the overcoming of the static conception of the separation of powers and criticizes the arguments normally used to justify the legitimacy of the Supreme Courts to review acts of the Legislative Power to the extand that they ignore that the judges do not decide in an institutional vacuum and that the interaction with their peers influences in the decision making process. Thus, through the exposition of legal, attitudinal and strategic judicial decision-making models, it presents the Courts not only as external interlocutors, but above all as collegiate deliberative tribunals, in order to emphasize the importance of collegial deliberation to constitutional jurisdiction legitimacy and the quality of its performance.
