Abstract:
Various methods of measuring diversification of enterprise activities have been suggested. This shows that any unified approach to solving this significant theoretical and practical problem can hardly be found now. One of the main reasons for this is that the reliable analysis of diversification processes, aims and effects on various aspects of enterprise activities has not been performed yet. As shown by the present investigation, diversification criteria defining the number of areas of activities rather than the criteria describing the variation of work volumes in these areas should be taken

Abstract:
Oil and gas dependence and the volatility of their prices is currently a serious challenge for the Russian economy. Coincidently, export revenues from oil and gas products are the main source of the federal budget. Export diversification can contribute to risk reduction for the Russian economy by increasing the share of products from other industries in the export structure. In this regard, the present study examines the determinants of export diversification in Russian industrial regions using econometric modelling methods. To this end, the Herfindahl and Theil indices for 97 export groups we

This study investigated the relationship between the level of competition between banks and revenue diversification on financial stability of commercial banks during 2008- 2013. The level of competition in this study measured by the market share of net interest income. Revenue diversification measured using Hirscman Herfindhal Index, while the bank's financial stability is measured by ZScore for banking industry. Models were analyzed using a fixed effect regression models. The results showed that the bank samples is vurnerable to the intense of competition. Although the research sample has rel

Market access has a deep impact on farmers’ decisions, influencing their choice of crops and technology adoption. Crop diversification depends on the availability of markets to trade the agricultural portfolio. This study explored how market access impacted the level of diversification in 5565 Brazilian municipalities from 2013 to 2021. We developed a regression model considering how variables related to market access and commercialization (storage, roads, distribution centers, commercialization credit, among others) affected a local (municipality level) diversification index. In this paper we examine the association between product diversification and corporate governance. We add to the pool of current knowledge in three ways. First, we include the effects of strategy on diversification in our model. Second, we eliminate observations that have both good corporate governance and unchanging, high diversification that Anderson et al (2000) attribute to a confounding theory. Third, we use Brazilian data. Using Brazilian companies allows us to see the corporate governance norms, diversification norms, and the existence of a diversification discount in a developing marke

Proper risk management ‒ based on the theory of behavioural finance ‒ will lead a rational investor to make the right choice preferences while estimating the minimal level of risk and receiving the greatest rate of return. One of the effects of risk management is diversification, which is also one of the main means of reducing the global level of risk. Diversification also contributes significantly to improving the long-term rate of return on an investment. This study investigated whether there are inter-relationships among capital structure (financial leverage), free cash flow, diversification and firm performance. Methodology: To this, 78 active firms in this area were selected between 2011 and 2015. Internal independent variables involve capital structure, free cash flow, diversification and firm performance. To study inter-relationships of variables, simultaneous equation system and STATA software were applied. The recovery of marine life from the end-Permian mass extinction event provides a test-case for biodiversification models in general, but few studies have addressed this episode in its full length and ecological context. This study analyses the recovery of marine level-bottom communities from the end-Permian mass extinction event over a period of 15 Ma, with a main focus on the previously neglected main phase during the Middle Triassic. Our analyses are based on faunas from 37 lithological units representing different environmental settings, ranging from lagoons to inner, mid- and outer ramps.
