Purpose – The purpose of this study is to use critical success factors (CSFs) to develop a process maturity and determine the current maturity levels of stakeholder organisations in public–private partnership (PPP) project implementation in Nigeria. The success of any PPP project is largely dependent on the country’s maturity on CSFs that made PPP projects successful. Thus, the identification of metrics and standards for measuring the maturity of stakeholder organisations on CSFs for PPP project implementation remains a challenge. AbstractThis chapter makes a literature review based on the Grant and Booth qualitative systematic methodology of the studies about the educational situation of the Roma in Spain, with an wider, extended scope that allows to compare the findings with those conducted on other countries’ Roma populations. Studies on the Roma educational situation in Spain are hindered by the lack of official, periodical statistics, having to rely on sample-based surveys and ethnographic studies. In spite of the inaccuracy of the studies all of them show, as a general picture, a staggering educational gap between the Roma and the rest of society which is common to all Western countries. Most of the studies on Roma education have concentrated in this negative aspect. Numerous theoretical frameworks have been developed to explain this staggering education gap. All them acknowledge the phenomenon as a multidimensional one but for heuristic purposes they can be ordered along an endogenous/exogenous factors continuum depending on how much they stress the weight of factors stemming from characteristics of the Roma ethnic group itself or, on the contrary, of the majority non-Roma society. The literature review has also identified an emergent critical current that sees this studies focused on educational underachievement as a sharing a common essentialist bias that helps to reinforce the stigmatization of Roma and have turned to focus, instead, on the study of academic success among the Roma. Although this emerging field is very promising, our review has identify several significant research gaps in this regard: a lack of longitudinal studies, a lack of studies on the Roma upper and middle classes and a lack of studies on Roma students in post-compulsory education, particularly the university level. This article encourages researchers to fill this gaps with the conviction that the knowledge obtained can help combat the negative stereotypes and the self-fulfilling prophecy effect that approaches focused on Roma underachievement may have.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter presents a best practice framework for the operation of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence (BDAI CoE). The goal of the framework is to foster collaboration and share best practices among existing centres and support the establishment of new Centres of Excellence (CoEs) within Europe. The framework was developed following a phased design science process, starting from a literature review to create an initial framework which was enhanced with the findings of a multi-case study of existing successful CoEs. Each case study involved an in-depth analysis and a series of in-depth interviews with leadership personnel of existing CoEs.The resulting best practice framework models a CoE using open systems theory that comprises input (environment), transformation (CoE) and output (impact). The framework conceptualises the internal operation of the CoE as a set of high-level capabilities including strategy, governance, structure, funding, and people and culture. The core capabilities of the CoE include business development, collaboration, research support services, technical infrastructure, experimentation/demonstration platforms, Intellectual Property (IP) and data protection, education and public engagement, policy outreach, technology and knowledge transfer, and performance and impact assessment. In this chapter we describe the best practice framework for CoEs in big data and AI, including objectives, environment, strategic and operational capabilities, and impact. The chapter outlines how the framework can be used by a CoE to support its strategic direction and operational decisions over time, and how a new CoE can use it in the start-up phase. Based on the analysis of the case studies, the chapter explores the critical success factors of a CoE as defined by a survey of CoE managers. Finally, the chapter concludes with a summary.

Abstract:
Achieving superior performance in IT outsourcing relationships is both a demanding and a rewarding activity. To perform well managers need to understand outsourcing opportunities, critical success factors, company value configuration and maturity for outsourcing, the need for knowledge transfer, and management and control of outsourcing arrangement. Outsourcing opportunities can be derived from resource-based theory, transaction cost theory, activity theory, agency theory, or other theories of the firm. Based on such opportunities, companies develop business-oriented enter strategies. A strategy defines vision, mission and objectives of the firm. It includes changes in electronic business and other important business areas that impact future use of information technology. The strategy analyzes business direction, information management strategy, and ambition level for IT outsourcing. The theoretical and empirical based critical success factors serve as recommendations for what to outsource and how to succeed in managing IT outsourcing relationships. Outsourcing business functions, managers must first understand – the underlying business logic of their firm, the company’s value configuration, and how resources such as information systems affect the performance of various component activities.

Abstract:
Cause Related Marketing (CRM) emerged in the 1980s following a campaign launched by American Express to donate money to different non-profit organizations as part of the San Francisco Arts Festival. Ever since, CRM has developed into one of the most popular corporate social responsibility strategies and has been practiced by some of the biggest corporations in the world, such as Kellogg’s, Tesco, Avon, BT, and many more. In its early years, it was characterized as a fad, but its impressive growth in the last few years proves that it is seen as a highly potent tool for achieving the marketing objectives of a business. CRM has the potential to emotionally and rationally engage stakeholders with companies and brands and strengthen the management’s effort to add value and sustain brands. CRM must be a long-term strategy and not an ad hoc initiative implemented to boost sales. A number of factors are critical to its success: well-defined underlying values, commitment of senior-level management, planning and implementing a strategic approach, careful selection of cause/charity, and communication and promotion.

This chapter builds an enterprise-level business intelligence maturity (EBIM) model that facilitates an improved view of the path in business intelligence (BI) implementation. The authors adopted a two-stage qualitative approach, namely a Delphi study followed by case studies. The findings reveal that a comprehensive EBIM model enables organizations to plan, assess, and manage their BI initiatives more effectively than previously. In addition, this study lists important key process areas (KPAs) that influence BI implementation success. The authors found that the KPAs in different levels and dimensions help organizations identify critical areas in need of maximum attention and channel their scarce resources to improve those areas. Further, the entire EBIM framework fosters better use of limited resources in critical areas, which is likely to have a greater effect at the right time.

Critical success factors are related to user learning capabilities, the establishment of trust in the technology and its providers, and factors influencing the nature of potential engagement with users and markets.

Abstract:
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) offers many benefits in aligning business operations. However, these implementations can be problematic and prone to failure. Critical success factors (CSF) which can improve the success rates of implementation have been researched and an interpretive structural modelling (ISM) was conducted to identify the interrelationships between factors. An ISM based model was created and this was achieved by completing the self-interaction matrix (SSIM), reachability matrix and level partitioning. This led to an ISM-based model being created followed by a cross-impact matrix multiplication (MICMAC) analysis to identify the factor’s relative driving power and level of dependence. The project revealed that top management support was the strongest CSF with a high driving power and low dependence. In addition, fourteen other factors displayed strong driving power with high dependence. The findings from the project were summarized into a recommended framework for manufacturing organizations to follow to increase the likelihood of a successful ERP implementation.

Process-oriented development of an organization is supported by maturity models. They delineate a sequence of stages that together form a path from an initial to a desired maturity level. Maturity progress is determined by various success factors and initiated by different triggers. There is no common classification of these triggers. The purpose of this paper is to identify triggers in relation to maturity levels. To identify triggers a contextual model has been developed and literature review has been conducted. Results suggest that due to incomplete understanding of process-based approach s

Aim/Purpose: Given the underlying philosophy of the agile manifesto, this study investigates whether an increase in agile maturity is associated with improved perceived project success. Background: The underlying philosophy of the agile manifesto is embodied in principle one which promotes the continuous delivery of software that is deemed valuable by the customer, while principle twelve encourages continual improvement of the delivery process. This constant improvement, or maturity, is not a concept unique to agile methods and is commonly referred to as a maturity model. The most common of ma

It is sometimes very difficult for an organization to adopt a specific software project management methodology in a short space of time. It requires sufficient time, adequate financial support and skilled human resources in order to start with a comprehensive methodology. It is, however, often more appropriate to use a maturity model so as to progress from one maturity level to the next. Assessment of the maturity level of an organization provides a good benchmark to rate the success of its operations. One such exercise was carried out in South Africa in 2003, and the overall average project m

The Chicago Public Schools has sought to ensure access for all students by recently enacting computer science as a high school graduation requirement. The primary class that fulfills the graduation requirement is Exploring Computer Science (ECS), a high school introductory course and professional development pr

The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) has been employed for pavement design by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) since 2009 and has generated efficient pavement designs with a lower cost. It has been demonstrated that the success of MEPDG implementation depends largely on a high level of accuracy associated with the information supplied as design inputs. Vehicular traffic loading is one of the key factors that may cause not only pavement structural failures, such as fatigue cracking and rutting, but also functional surface distresses, including friction and smo
