Abstract:
Summary Objectives: Today’s socio-economic developments in the healthcare area require continued optimization of processes and cost structures at hospitals, often associated with process changes for different occupational groups in the hospital. Formal methods for managing change have been established in other industries. The goal of this study was to assess the applicability of Kurt Lewin’s change management method to a health informatics-related project at a German university hospital. Methods: A project at the University Hospital Erlangen introducing changed requirements in the documentation of costly material in the surgical area was conducted following the concept of Lewin’s approach based on field theory, group dynamics, action research and the three steps of change. A data warehouse contributed information to several steps in the change process. Results: The model was successfully applied to the change project. Socio-dynamic forces relevant to the project goals were identified and considered in the design of the new documentation concept. The achieved documentation level met the new requirements and in some areas even exceeded them. Conclusions: Based on the project experiences, we consider Kurt Lewin’s approach applicable to change management projects in the hospital sector without a requirement for substantial additional resources, however, specific hospital characteristics need to be taken into account. The data warehouse played an important role by providing essential contributions throughout the entire change process.

Abstract:
Context Change management is a discipline guiding how organizations prepare, equip, and support people to adopt a change to drive organizational success and outcomes successfully. Objective To introduce the concept of change management and create a primer document for athletic training educators to use in the classroom. Background While Lean and Six Sigma methodologies are essential for achieving a high-reliability organization, human resistance to change is inevitable. Change management provides a structured approach via different theoretical methods, specific principles, and tools to guide organizations through growth and development and serves an essential role during process improvement initiatives. Synthesis There are several theories or models of change management, 3 of which are specifically relevant in health care. Kotter and Rathgeber believe change has both an emotional and situational component and use an 8-step approach: increase urgency, guide teams, have the right vision, communicate for buy-in, enable action, create short-term wins, and make-it-stick [Kotter J., Rathgeber H. Our Iceberg is Melting: Changing and Succeeding Under Any Circumstances. New York, NY: St. Martin's Press, 2006]. Bridges' Transitional Model focuses on the premise that change does not influence project success; instead, a transition does [Bridges W. Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change. Reading, MA: Addison-Wesley Publishing, 1991]. Lewin's model suggests that restraining forces influence organizations and that driving forces cause change to happen [Lewin K. Problems of research in social psychology. In: Cartwright D, ed. Field Theory in Social Science: Selected Theoretical Papers. New York, NY: Harpers; 1951]. Recommendation(s) Whether athletic trainers approach change management in a leadership role or as a stakeholder, newly transitioning professionals and those seeking leadership roles should value and appreciate change management theories and tools. Moreover, while no best practice statement exists relative to the incorporation of change management into a curriculum, addressing the subject early may allow immersive-experience students an opportunity to use change management during a process improvement initiative, facilitating a greater appreciation of the content. Conclusion(s) Athletic training curriculums should consider including change management course content, whether separately or in combination with other process-improvement content, thereby familiarizing athletic trainers with a common language for organizational and professional change.

Change management strategies have a positive significant effect on organizational performance in manufacturing companies in Anambra state. Leadership changes have a positive significant influence on organizational performance in manufacturing companies in Anambra state. The study concluded that change management has a positive significant effect on organizational performance in manufacturing companies in Anambra state. The study recommends that technology change had influenced employee performance since it simplifies the work to be done, thereby making work more efficient. Organizations which implement new technology should provide proper training to their employees to increase their performance. Every organization should build strong organizational management strategies that help to build good relationships based on their values, norms, behaviours, and perceptions.Leadership changes leaders’ mind-set, style, and behavior. The change process they design as a result of their orientation must encourage employees to want to participate, to choose to contribute, rather than force them to do so.

Abstract:
Subject area The subject areas are organizational management, organizational behaviour and human resource management. Study level/applicability The study is applicable for courses in human resource management and organizational behaviour as part of masters-level programmes in business administration and management, executive development programmes on organization design and development for middle/senior management. Case overview In 2003, Elizabeth and Sunil Mehta had founded a voluntary organization, “Muktangan”, focussed on child-centric education through innovative pedagogy for the community of the urban poor. Elizabeth, an educationist, and Sunil, a highly successful business person, joined hands to contribute to the well-being of urban poor to make a difference to their lives. Elizabeth and Sunil presented a proposal to impart education for “the children of the community, by the teachers drawn from the community” to the residents of the slums in central Mumbai. With a humble beginning of running a small pre-school, Muktangan now manages seven schools with 3,400 children and 500 teachers, and a teachers’ training centre with a capacity to train 100 teachers a year. Muktangan won acclaim for its unique pedagogy and a very effective child-to-teacher ratio. Over the years, Elizabeth and Sunil led Muktangan with a strong passion and a “hands-on” approach. Of late, Elizabeth and Sunil faced questions from their donors about the sustainability of Muktangan with respect to leadership and management succession. Elizabeth and Sunil had a vision for Muktangan for self-directed growth with an empowered team. Muktangan embarked on the journey to create a leadership for self-directed growth. Sunil, Elizabeth and team Muktangan conceptualized and implemented a change management intervention with help from an external consultant to build the desired organization. Expected learning outcomes Outcomes are understanding issues involved in the leadership, organization design and management of change, particularly of those organizations engaged in social change and development in developing societies. Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the development of planned organisational change models (POCMs) since Lewin’s three-step model and to highlight key linkages between them. Design/methodology/approach A total of 13 commonly used POCMs were identified and connections with Lewin’s three-step framework and associated process attributes were made, reflecting the connections between these models and Lewin. Findings The findings show that first Lewin’s three-step model represents a framework for planned change; however, these steps could not be viewed in isolation of other interrelated processes, including action research, group dynamics, and force field analysis. These process steps underpin the iterative aspects of his model. Second, all 13 POCMs have clearly identified linkages to Lewin, suggesting that the ongoing development of POCMs is more of an exercise in developing ongoing procedural steps to support change within the existing framework of the three-step model. Research limitations/implications The authors recognise that the inclusion of additional POCMs would help strengthen linkages to Lewin. The findings from this paper refocus attention on the three-step model, suggesting its ongoing centrality in planned organisational change rather than it being dismissed as an historical approach from which more recently developed models have become more relevant. Practical implications This paper presents opportunities for organisational change management researchers to challenge their thinking with regard to the ongoing search for model refinement, and for practitioners in the design and structure of POCM. Originality/value An analysis of the ongoing relevance of Lewin and his linkage with modern POCMs assist in rationalising the broadening, and often confusing literature on change. This paper therefore not only contributes to filtering such literature, but also helps clarify the myriad of POCMs and their use.

Abstract:
At present, the business environment is entering its third decade in the 21st century. Business today is more modern and dynamic and is colored by various disruption. Disruption, in this case, is the disruption of technology, politics, economy, and social culture. In the management of organizational change, Lewin's model is known as a classical theory and as a guide for organizations to implement, manage, and evaluate change. This study aims to identify whether Lewin's model which is considered a classic is still adaptive for use in a business environment that is recruited. By using conceptual research methods it is known that the three stages of Lewin put forward the individual or human as the root of change through the identification of the driving factors and drivers of change. In this model, the leadership style is more oriented to involvement, commitment, and support, and orientation to sharing knowledge for the success of the change process in the organization. With these factors in Lewin's stage, changes as a result of the disruption in the business environment in the organization will be effective. Abstract:
Healthcare systems are complex; this is reflected in their diverse structures, cultures and services. Organisational culture is an important aspect to consider when planning any intervention changes. Working in and with teams that include members from different professional and organisational backgrounds, and successfully managing these potential tensions, can be challenging. This article reviews the elements required to instigate organisational change when planning an intervention and the possible barriers preventing doctors from full engagement in these projects. It discusses the model of ‘planned change’, which was first described by Lewin in 1947, and its evolution through recent decades as a framework for organisational change. It also emphasises the importance of workplace culture in the successful implementation of change within healthcare services and argues that a stronger emphasis on management skills is needed in doctor training. Doctors are an underused resource in healthcare management and should be encouraged to take a more proactive role.

This article reviews and contrasts the experiences of two major companies in attempting significant change projects incorporating information and communication technologies. It does so by utilizing and critiquing the MIT “Management in the 1990’s” model and by reflecting on socio-technical approaches to organizational change. It makes the point that while much of current attention is on electronic commerce as it pertains to industry transformation and interorganizational relations, it is nonetheless a phenomenon that can impact complex internal relations and communication. Additionally, conclusions are drawn with respect to the process of change and the need for further longitudinal studies when researching change projects of this kind.

Abstract:
E-commerce definitions allow us to understand the digital environment beyond a simplistic view of packaged products being delivered to one's home. Content, services, and experiences digitalization also became consumption options, having strong representatives such as Netflix, Spotify, and LinkedIn, among other digital services with revenue coming from recurring payments, here referred as digital subscription services (DSS). Freemium business model has gained prominence in recent years, although much of the literature considers it under a dualistic view (free vs. paid version), though there's no impediment to more than one paid version (levels). Taking advantage of the global reach, freemium DSSs usually have standardized purchase options (number of paid versions and benefits of each), turning the flexibility to set local prices fundamental to adjust the paid version(s) value perception according to the economic, market, and consumer expectations in each market. This chapter proposes price positioning strategies in global freemium DSSs, having Cutler and Sterne's conversion digital consumer lifecycle model in the background and potential scenarios in premium levels management based on the premise of price flexibility for local adaptations. Such proposals will allow global freemium services' managers to make price adjustments according to the analysis of the consumer distribution among service's paid versions, and to future studies to seek a possible quantification of the price change due to the asymmetry of consumers' distribution.

Abstract:
Leaders in the 21st Century face a complexity of issues greater than ever before. With ever increasing globalization and change, leaders must navigate the complexity of todays' issues and have the ability to strategically provide purpose and direction for the future. As organizations struggle to meet these challenges in the future, they must have processes in place that develop the leaders needed for their organization. This chapter will look at leader development as a lifelong learning process using the United States Army as the organization model. The objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of the leader development process used by the U. S. Army, how they raise strategic leaders, and relate those practices to organizations external to a military organization. It is a call to action for organizations to look inward to ‘build their bench strength', and begin the process of leader development by creating a leader development strategy, understanding leader requirements specific for their organization and developing a leader development program that will prepare leaders for the challenges of the future.

"Future Climate Change Impacts on River Discharge Seasonality for Selected West African River Basins." In Weather Forecasting [Working Title]. Abstract:
The changing climate is a concern to sustainable water resources. This study examined climate change impacts on river discharge seasonality in two West African river basins; the Niger river basin and the Hadejia-Jama’are Komadugu-Yobe Basin (HJKYB). The basins have their gauges located within Nigeria and cover the major climatic settings. Here, we set up and validated the hyper resolution global hydrological model PCR-GLOBWB for these rivers. Time series plots as well five performance evaluation metrics such as Kling–Gupta efficiency (KGE),); the ratio of RMSE-observations standard deviation (RSR); per cent bias (PBIAS); the Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency criteria (NSE); and, the coefficient of determination (r2), were employed to verify the PCR-GLOBWB simulation capability. The validation results showed from satisfactory to very good on individual rivers as specified by PBIAS (−25 to 0.8), NSE (from 0.6 to 0.8), RSR (from 0.62 to 0.4), r2 (from 0.62 to 0.88), and KGE (from 0.69 to 0.88) respectively. The impact assessment was performed by driving the model with climate projections from five global climate models for the representative concentration pathways (RCPs) 4.5 and 8.5. We examined the median and range of expected changes in seasonal discharge in the far future (2070–2099). Our results show that the impacts of climate change cause a reduction in discharge volume at the beginning of the high flow period and an increase in discharge towards the ending of the high flow period relative to the historical period across the selected rivers. In the Niger river basin, at the Lokoja gauge, projected decreases added up to 512 m3/s under RCP 4.5 (June to July) and 3652 m3/s under RCP 8.5 (June to August). The three chosen gauges at the HJKYB also showed similar impacts. At the Gashua gauge, discharge volume increased by 371 m3/s (RCP8.5) and 191 m3/s (RCP4.5) from August to November. At the Bunga gauge, a reduction/increase of -91 m3/s/+84 m3/s (RCP 8.5) and -40 m3/s/+31 m3/s/(RCP 4.5) from June to July/August to October was simulated. While at the Wudil gauge, a reduction/increase in discharge volumes of −39/+133 m3/s (RCP8.5) and −40/133 m3/s (RCP 4.5) from June to August/September to December is projected. This decrease is explained by a delayed start of the rainy season. In all four rivers, projected river discharge seasonality is amplified under the high-end emission scenario (RCP8.5). This finding supports the potential advantages of reduced greenhouse gas emissions for the seasonal river discharge regime. Our study is anticipated to provide useful information to policymakers and river basin development authorities, leading to improved water management schemes within the context of changing climate and increasing need for agricultural expansion.

Abstract:
Cultural Heritage-Management (CHM) in Italy appears to chronically suffer from resources fragmentation. The aim of this chapter is to highlight the need for a value co-creation logic based on resource integration in CHM to improve awareness and involve citizens, organizations and other stakeholders in the cultural heritage preservation and enhancement activities. The methodological approach adopted is an integration among Service-Dominant-logic (S-DL) and Service-Science (SS), within the general framework of the Viable-Systems-Approach (VSA). By shifting focus from the objects of exchange to the relations among parties, S-DL and SS emphasize the importance of collaboration in market interaction. VSA integrates the two perspectives within the structure-system paradigm explaining how collaboration among viable systems takes place. On the basis of the proposed integrated perspective a Service-Based-Systems approach is defined that allows developing a model for CHM based on a value co-creation logic. The authors argue that, to implement an effective co-creation, actors should be linked as resource integrators within a network relationship and share a governance approach inspired cooperating principles as postulated by the VSA consonance model. The chapter provides a conceptual framework of reference for integrating the wide variety of resources needed for an effective management approach to cultural heritage preservation and enhancement. This approach requires a cultural change in CHM organizations in order to effectively exploit: opportunities of a co-creation logic oriented to integrate multi-disciplinary; multi-professional resources; capabilities and competences. By adopting the VSA consonance framework, the authors highlight the relational conditions for resource integration in a Cultural Heritage Territorial System model on the basis of a value co-creation logic.

Abstract:
For over five decades the Sellafield Site has been central to the UK’s nuclear programme. Now operated by Sellafield Ltd, under the management of Parent Body Organisation Nuclear Management Partners (NMP), a consortium of URS Washington Division, AMEC and AREVA is focussed on the decommissioning of historical facilities. When Decommissioning commenced in the late 1980’s the site focus at that time was on commercial reprocessing and waste management. Now through the implementation of a company change programme, emphasis has shifted towards accelerated risk and hazard reduction of degraded legacy plants with nuclear inventory whilst ensuring value for money for the customer, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. This paper will describe the management success by the Site owners in delivering a successful change programme. The paper will explain how the site has transitioned to the INPO Standard Nuclear Performance Model (SNPM) and how through the use of a change maturity matrix has contributed to the accelerated reduction in high risk high hazard nuclear facilities. The paper will explain in detail how the Decommissioning Programme Office has facilitated and coordinated the Governance and assured delivery of the change plan and how successful application of visual management has aided the communication of its progress. Finally, the paper will discuss how the Delivery Schedules have proved critical for presenting the change plan to Key Stakeholders, Government Owners and Powerful Regulators. Overall, this paper provides an insight into how a massive change programme is being managed within one of the world’s highest regulated industries.

Abstract:
Safety assessment of radioactive waste disposal facilities is usually carried out by means of simplified models. Abstraction of the numerical model from the real physical environment is done in several steps. One of the most challenging issues in safety assessment concerns the long time scales involved and the evolution of engineered barriers over thousands of years. For some processes occurring in specific engineered barriers the uncertainties related to long time scales are addressed by implementing conservative assumptions in the radionuclide migration models. Other processes such as chemical concrete degradation, however, can be estimated for long time periods by the use of coupled geochemical transport models. For many near-surface disposal facilities, concrete is a very important engineered barrier because it is used in the construction of disposal modules or vaults, in production of high-integrity monoliths and their backfilling and for waste conditioning. Knowledge on the durability of such concrete components and its relation to radionuclide sorption is important for a defensible safety assessment. Chemical degradation typically occurs as the result of decalcification, dissolution and leaching of cement components and carbonation. These reactions induce a gradual change in the solid phase composition and the concrete pore-water composition, from “fresh” concrete porewater with a pH above 13 to a pH lower than 10 for “evolved” porewater associated with fully degraded concrete. The focus of this work is to analyse the behaviour of the disposal facility in terms of radionuclides sorption values depending on the geochemical evolution of engineered barriers. The time-dependency of the concrete mineralogy and porewater is coupled with sorption values that are characteristic for the four concrete degradation states: (i) State I with a pH larger than 12.5, controlled by the dissolution of alkali-oxides, (ii) State II with a pH at 12.5 controlled by the dissolution of portlandite, (iii) State III with a pH between 12.5 and 10 when all portlandite is dissolved and the pore water composition is determined by different cement phases including calcium-silicate hydrates (C-S-H phases), and (iv) State IV with a pH lower than 10 with calcite and aggregate minerals present. Above mentioned pH values are valid for a system with a temperature of 25°C. Sorption values are obtained from a literature review. The time-dependency of the sorption values Rd is implemented in a one-dimensional radionuclide migration model used for release calculations from the planned near-surface disposal facility at Dessel, Belgium. Calculated releases will be discussed for radionuclides typical of low- and intermediate level short-lived (LILW-SL) waste.

Abstract:
Two-phase microchannels promise an efficient method to dissipate heat from high performance electronic systems by utilizing the latent heat of vaporization during the phase-change process. However, phase-change in microchannel heat sinks leads to challenges that are not present in macroscale systems due to the increasing importance of surface tension and viscous forces. In particular, flow instabilities often occur during the boiling process, which lead to liquid dry-out in the microchannels and severely limits the heat removal capabilities of the system. We propose a microscale breather device consisting of an array of hydrophobic breather ports which allow vapor bubbles to escape from the microchannels to improve flow stability. In this study, we use the combination of microfabricated structures and surface chemistry to separate vapor from the liquid flow. We designed test devices that allow for cross-sectional optical visualization to better understand the governing parameters of a breather design with high vapor removal efficiencies and minimal liquid leakage. We examined breather devices with average liquid velocities ranging from 0.5 cm/s to 4 cm/s and breather vacuum levels between 1 kPa and 9 kPa on the maximum gas removal rate through the breather. We demonstrated successful breather performance. In addition, a model was developed that offers design guidelines for future integrated breathers in microchannel heat sinks. The breathers also have significant promise for other microscale systems, such as micro-fuel cells, where liquid-vapor separation can significantly enhance system performance.

Abstract:
Because Ca-dissolution from cementitious material is considered a source of long-term alteration of the performance of radioactive waste repositories, much research including dissolution tests has been conducted on this topic. These studies have introduced models such as Atkinson’s model [1] to calculate the leaching of cementitious material. These models have been used to verify that the results of many studies do represent the alteration of cementitious minerals and the composition of the leachate. They have also been used to make numerous estimates of long-term mineralogical alteration in repositories, such as cement-clay interaction in cementitious barrier systems, and to evaluate the change in repository performance. However, immersion tests using bulky cementitious material have often indicated that the actual alteration of cementitious material might be slower than the rates calculated by these models. This difference may be due to a change of mass-transport characteristics, either in the bulky cementitious material or at the interfaces with other materials. In this study, a mineralogical analysis was conducted on two types of old concrete. Drilled cores from the foundations of rotary kilns at two cement factories were collected beneath the groundwater level. Both concrete structures were made from Japanese ordinary Portland cement (OPC), which is similar to European type 1 cement. One structure had been set into a fresh groundwater environment for 78 years (78-F), and the other had set sunk into a saline environment for 98 years (98-S).

Abstract:
A “realistic alteration model” is needed for various cementitious materials. Hypothetical settings of mineral composition calculated based on the chemical composition of cement, such as Atkins’s model, have been used to estimate the alteration of cementitious material. However, model estimates for the concentration of certain elements such as Al and S in leachate have been different from experimental values. In a previous study, we created settings for a mineralogical alteration model by taking the initial chemical composition of cementitious materials from analysis results in experiments and applying their ratios to certain hydrated cement minerals, then added settings for secondary generated minerals in order to account for Ca leaching. This study of alteration estimates for ordinary portland cement (OPC) in groundwater showed that the change in Al and S concentrations in simulated leachate approached values for actual leachate[1]. In the present study, we develop an appropriate mineral alteration model for blended cementitious materials and conduct batch-type leaching experiments that use crushed samples of blast furnace slag cement (BFSC), silica cement (SC), and fly ash cement (FAC). The cement blends in these experiments used OPC blended with blast furnace slag of 70 wt.%, silica cement consisting of an amorphous silica fine powder of 20 wt.%, and fly ash of 30 wt.%. De-ionized water was used as the leaching solution. The solid-liquid ratios in the leaching tests were varied in order to simulate the alteration process of cement hydrates. The compositions of leachate and minerals obtained from leaching tests were compared with those obtained from models using hypothetical settings of mineral composition. We also consider an alteration model that corresponds to the diversity of these materials. As a result of applying the conventional OPC model to blended cementitious materials, the estimated Al concentration in the aqueous solution was significantly different from the measured concentration. We therefore propose an improved model that takes better account of Al behavior by using a more reliable initial mineral model for Al concentration in the solution.

Abstract:
It is important to elucidate the transient characteristics of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFC), especially when PEFC is applied to relatively small-scale power applications where it will be subjected to a wide range of loads, and may have frequent starts and stops. In addition, the water management problem, which is represented by flooding in cell and drying in proton exchange membrane (PEM), is another issue to address. The flooding is caused by liquid water accumulated in GDL and/or flow channel; the liquid water hinders mass transfer of gases to and from active layers; it can lead to rapid deterioration of cell performance. And the water management relates to the transient response of PEFC frequently. Based on these issues we wrote a numerical simulation program for unit-PEFC, which can simulate the successive events of vapor condensation, liquid saturation growth, corresponding to the dynamic change of cell voltage. We formulated mass, momentum and energy conservation equation with equivalent electric circuit; we discretized and numerically solved them. As for the gas/liquid two-phase flow formulation in GDL, we utilized multi-phase mixture (M2) model. As for the multi-component diffusion formulation, we utilized Stefan-Maxwell equation. Using the program, we simulated the transient response to rapid increase of load current. When the current density changed from 0.5 A/cm2 to 1.0 A/cm2 instantaneously, cell voltage (Vcell) changed in the following manner. Just after the change of current, Vcell decreased instantaneously corresponding to IR resistance and decreased again in 10−1s time-scale with the re-distribution of oxygen and with the charge of electric double layer capacitor. Then Vcell increased slightly in 101s time-scale with PEM wetting. Finally, Vcell decreased in 102 ∼ 103 s time-scale with the development of liquid saturation in GDL.
