The design community faces immense pressures amidst diminishing energy supplies and anthropogenic climate change. Increasing ecological and sociopolitical instability demand a fundamental change in how we design for the present and future. In an effort to reduce and reverse the cause of this effect, designers are uniquely positioned to bring about much needed change. The impact of this vantage point is directly proportional to a designer\'s understanding of the components that conspire to bring about our current climate and energy crisis. These same components are the crucial players that hold the promise for a reinvention, or re-design, of our present situation. Of particular interest within this discourse are the woven elements of municipal government, social, technical and economic systems as they relate to existing practices of building and infrastructure energy use. Within the U.S., many instances suggest the general public has lost sight of the industrial processes that support our way of life. The average U.S. citizen lacks even a basic understanding of their ecological \'footprint\' and the industrial processes necessary to procure their quality of life. This gap in knowledge has resulted in a \'cultural numbness\' for Americans while permitting these processes to remain disparate and disjointed. Poignant examples exist, however, ripe with intriguing solutions to reverse this trend, ranging from city wide energy conscious strategies to technological building efficiency solutions. The design conclusion of this thesis is a site strategy seeking to synthesize the City of Bozeman\'s solid waste and wastewater treatment processes - with the ultimate intent to sensitize users to its inherent use and function. Within the context of this strategy is a detailed design for a high performing solid waste handling unit. Of the many complexities addressed in this proposal, the primary objectives are to 1) site plan synergies that maximize energy recovery from waste materials, 2) provide electricity and district heat production, 3) create safe, inviting, and high-efficiency spaces for handling solid waste while serving a balance of municipal and public uses, 4) design for modular expansion, demountability, deconstruction and/or reuse, 5) design safe and dignified work environments.

Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2001.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The alignment of Sanlam Life with the transformation process of Sanlam, as a national
financial services group, necessitated the implementation of an improved service
delivery model in 1998. The vision to be world class, brought forward some challenges
in terms of cost, service levels as well as the type of service channel.
Strategically, it was decided that Sanlam Life should centralise its services, which had
enormous implications for Sanlam Life's staff as well as its clients. This resulted in the
establishment of a more "impersonal" service channel, which could, at the same time,
deliver a more effective service in terms of speed and quality. Decentralised walk-in
centres thus, had to make place for two, centralised, client contact centres and a
personal, face-to-face, service was replaced with a technologically effective call and
correspondence centre.
After a period of approximately two years of operational functioning, it was decided by
Sanlam Life Exco to do a thorough diagnosis of the overall functioning of the Client
Contact Centre (CCC).The specific aims of this diagnosis can be summarised as
follows:
• To gain insight into the level of employee satisfaction and morale.
• To identify the factors which contribute to employee satisfaction and morale.
• To evaluate the efficiency of the service delivery processes.
• To ascertain what the current culture is within the CCC, in order to decide if it is the
type of culture that should be vested in the rest of Sanlam Life.
In preparation to the diagnostic survey and with the aim to improve the effectiveness of
the CCC, the principles of organisational diagnosis will be discussed in this study, and
will include the following:
• The importance of a diagnostic model, which is central to the diagnostic process as
well as further action plans.
• A description of the diagnostic process and the importance of feedback and action
planning in order to ensure organisational improvement.
The results of the diagnostic survey of the Sanlam Life CCC, indicated the work climate
can primarily be described as negative, and that improvement of especially the work
processes and management behaviour, is required. The negative perception of the CCC
staff around their service delivery, however does not correlate with the experience of the
Sanlam Advisors regarding CCC service. This finding is contradictory to that of previous
research, which indicated a positive relationship between employee and client
satisfaction. This finding should thus be investigated to a greater extent.
Organisation diagnosis is a sensitive process, which can create the expectation with
employees that something will be done with the information. The greatest challenge
therefore does not only lie in the diagnosis itself, but in the utilisation of the information
for continuous improvement.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die belyning van Sanlam Lewens met die transformasieproses van Sanlam, as
nasionale finansiële dienstegroep, het die implementering van 'n verbeterde
diensleweringmodel in 1998 genoodsaak. Die visie om wêreldklas te wees, het sekere
uitdagings gestel op die gebied van koste, diensvlakke asook die tipe dienskanaal.
Strategies is besluit dat Sanlam Lewens moet sentraliseer, wat enorme implikasies
ingehou het vir Sanlam Lewens se personeel asook hul kliënte. Dit het gelei tot die
totstandkoming van 'n meer "onpersoonlike" dienskanaal wat terselfdertyd meer
effektiewe diens in terme van spoed en kwaliteit tot gevolg sou hê. Gedesentraliseerde
instapkantore moes dus plek maak vir twee, gesentraliseerde, kliëntekontaksentrums en
persoonlike, aangesig-tot-aangesig, dienslewering is vervang deur 'n tegnologies
effektiewe inbel- en korrespondensiesentrum.
Na 'n tydperk van ongeveer twee jaar van operasionele funksionering, het die
uitvoerende bestuur van Sanlam Lewens besluit dat 'n deeglike diagnose na die
algehele funksionering van die Kliëntekontaksentrum (KKS) gedoen moet word. Die
spesifieke doelwitte van die diagnose kan as volg opgesom word:
• Om insig te verkry ten opsigte van die vlak van werknemertevredenheid en moraal.
• Om die faktore wat bydra tot werknemertevredenheid en moraal te identifiseer.
• Om die effektiwiteit van die diensleweringsprosesse te bepaal.
• Om te bepaal wat die huidige kultuur binne die KKS is, sodat daar besluit kan word
of dit die tipe kultuur is wat in die res van Sanlam Lewens gevestig moet word.
As voorbereiding tot die diagnostiese ondersoek in die Sanlam Lewens KKS en ook met
die doel om die effektiwiteit van die KKS te verbeter, word die beginsels van
organisasiediagnose in hierdie studie bespreek, en bestaan uit die volgende: Die vestiging van 'n begrip van organisasie-effektiwiteit en die bydrae wat
organisasiediagnose kan lewer tot volgehoue organisasieverbetering.
• Die belang van 'n diagnostiese model, wat sentraal staan tot die diagnostiese proses
asook verdere aksieplanne.
• 'n Omskrywing van die diagnostiese proses en die belang van terugvoer en
aksiebeplanning ten einde organisasieverbetering te verseker.
Die resultate van die diagnostiese ondersoek na die funksionering van die Sanlam
Lewens KKS het aangedui dat die werksklimaat in die KKS hoofsaaklik as negatief
beskou kan word en dat verbetering ten opsigte van veral werksprosesse en
bestuursgedrag nodig is. Die negatiewe persepsie wat by KKS personeel bestaan ten
opsigte van hul dienslewering korreleer egter nie met die ervaring van Sanlam
Adviseurs ten opsigte van KKS diens nie. Hierdie bevinding is teenstrydig met vorige
navorsing, wat 'n positiewe verband gevind het tussen werknemer- en
kliëntetevredenheid, en moet dus verder ondersoek word.
Organisasiediagnose is 'n sensitiewe proses wat die verwagting by werknemers skep
dat iets met die inligting gedoen gaan word. Die grootste uitdaging lê dus nie net in die
diagnose nie, maar in die gebruik van die inligting vir volgehoue verbetering.

Writers of the 1830s and 1840s sought to interpret their changing society in an explosion of new forms, developing an all-inclusive aesthetic that saw writing as a direct expression of individual experience, without boundary between life and page and without hierarchy of genre or subject matter. Analyses of social types and behaviour proliferated in which two current preoccupations stood out: the materialist motivation of an industrialising society with an expanding middle class, and the degree of theatricality involved in manoevring for a place in that society. Often groundbreaking, the analyses of August Lewald (1792–1871) were informed by his broad experience which included commerce and the theatre, and for which he was renowned. Contemporary reviews acknowledge the innovativeness of his writing and his sure eye for key issues of the day. In the new conditions after 1848, however, his popularity soon vanished, and he has been largely overlooked since then. My thesis aims to demonstrate that such a strong representative of the period in both his life and works calls for reinstatement as significant writer and personality. Three of Lewald’s works have been selected to support this aim. After an Introduction which tries to place Lewald within the experimental context of the Vormärz, Chapters 1–3 will offer a close reading of each work, contextualised by reference to other works, contemporary reviews, and biographical detail where it seems relevant. Sketches from Album aus Paris exemplify Lewald’s early and influential innovativeness in their humorous scrutiny of social behaviour through observation of its external manifestations, in the style of French Physiologies. Memoiren eines Banquiers exploits fictionalised life-writing as a cover behind which to confront controversial issues around money, Jewish emancipation and prejudice. Theater-Roman plays with the metaphor of society as theatre, conveying the ultimately futile illusoriness of contemporary society’s values, and foreshadowing Lewald’s own increasing rejection of his Vormärz life- and writing style after 1848. My Conclusion claims for Lewald’s life and writing individuality and originality as well as qualities that make him exemplary of his time. It proposes, as a project among other topics for further research, that a new edition of his sketches in particular, enjoyable in their own right, would be a valuable contribution to knowledge of the Vormärz period.

The goal of this study was to determine the energetic
requirements of juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna
lewini) in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii using a multidisciplinary
approach. A large flume/respirometer (635 1)
was constructed to determine the critical swimming speeds
(Ucrit )' swimming kinematics (tailbeat frequency, tailbeat
amplitude, and stride length), and oxygen consumption rates
(V02 ) of juvenile sharks over a range of swimming speeds (U).
Swimming kinematics were also compared with unconstrained
sharks in a seawater pond. These experiments indicated that
tailbeat frequency (TBF) and water temperature could be used
as a predictor of U and V02 for free-swimming sharks in the
field; however, the flume affected the sharks' swimming
kinematics at slow speeds. The flume and pond kinematic
comparisons were used to correct for flume effects on sharks'
V02.
An acoustic tailbeat-sensing transmitter was designed
and constructed to quantify activity and energy consumption
of free-swimming hammerhead shark pups in Kaneohe Bay.
Sharks with transmitters behaved similarly to uninstrumented
sharks, but incurred a 28% increase in cost of transport due
to increased drag from the transmitters. These data were
used to correct for the effects of the transmitter on freeswimming
sharks in the field. Sharks tracked in Kaneohe Bay with tailbeat transmitters
exhibited increased U during dawn and dusk, while sharks
tracked in the warmer summer months had higher activity rates
and metabolic rates (MR) than a shark tracked during the
winter. Sharks tracked in this study had higher MR than
those measured for other species of tropical sharks and, as a
result, require higher daily rations. Low and negative
growth rates determined from sharks in the Bay and declining
catch rates over the season suggest that a large percentage
of the pups in Kaneohe Bay may starve as the result of their
high metabolic requirements. Although prey do not appear to
be li~itingi lack of foraging experience compounded by a high
daily metabolic demand may explain why sharks lose weight
during summer months. Those pups that survive the winter
experience lower MR due to seasonal temperature decline and

A fim de cumprir o objetivo geral delineado, foi realizado um estudo subdividido em três fases. Na primeira fase, a versão traduzida da escala Things I Worry About [Coisas que me preocupam] foi aplicada em uma amostra de adolescentes do Distrito Federal, verificando-se sua estrutura fatorial. Na
segunda fase, investigou-se, por meio de grupos focais, as preocupações existentes no espaço de vida desses adolescentes, visando identificar os temas e as áreas dessas preocupações. A diferente estrutura fatorial obtida na Fase I e as diferentes preocupações acessadas na Fase II corroboraram que as preocupações variam de acordo com o período temporal e o contexto
social. Na terceira fase do estudo buscou-se identificar as preocupações mais frequentes entre adolescentes por grupo sociodemográfico. Os resultados das análises multivariadas da variância indicaram que todos os fatores são avaliados de forma diferente pelos participantes em função do local de residência, série cursada, sexo, faixa etária, religião e renda familiar.
O conceito de espaço de vida explica o porquê das diferenças encontradas nos dois estudos. Se elementos diferentes ocupam o espaço de vida de adolescentes em variados contextos, as forças e a forma como essas forças afligem esses indivíduos também variam, assim como as preocupações existentes e relacionadas a esses elementos. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT<br>This study aimed to investigate adolescents’ worries under Kurt Lewin’s life space framework, considering the context in which they live and sociodemographic characteristics common to this group. In order to achieve the overall goal, one study subdivided in three phases was performed. In the first phase, a translated version of the Things I Worry About scale was applied to a sample of adolescents from Federal District, Brasília, Brazil, checking for it’s factorial structure. In the second phase, worries within adolescents’ lives were
investigated through focus groups to identify issues and areas of worry. The different factorial structure obtained in Phase I and the different worries accessed in Phase II confirmed that worries vary depending on time and social context. The third phase of the study sought to identify the most common worries among adolescents by socio-demographic groups. The multivariate analysis’ results of variance indicated that all factors were evaluated differently by participants according to residence’s place, school grade, sex, age, religion and
family income. The life space concept explains the differences found in both studies. If different elements occupy adolescents’ life space in various contexts, the forces and the way in which these forces afflict these individuals also vary, as well as existing worries related to these elements.

The purpose of this essay is to study the political horse-trading in 1933 have laid the foundation for political bloc solutions and have become a common occurrence in Swedish politics. Both the political horse-trading in 1933 and the bloc agreement in 1992 where solutions to help the nation out of severe economic crises, reduce unemployment and avoid extra election. The high unemployment in the 1990s affected a generation who now had something in common with their grandparents who lived through the 1930s. This essay describes the selected newspapers reporting on both the political horse-trading in 1933 and the bloc agreement in 1992 in Kalmar. This essay also describes the selected parties view of the two agreements in Kalmar.

Denna licentiatsuppsats beskriver ett förändringsarbete inom ramen för ett organisationsutvecklingsuppdrag på en akademisk teknisk institution. Bakgrunden till uppdraget var ett behov av förändring och utveckling av institutionens arbetsformer avseende ledarskap, samarbete och samspel. Min uppdragsgivare var institutionsledningen.I den fallstudie som beskrivs använder jag mig av Kurt Lewins metod kraftfältsanalys. Denna metod används för att utforska hindrande och stödjande krafter i ett förändringsarbete.Mitt uppdrag pågick under ca ett och ett halvt år, från augusti 2010 till december 2011. Momentet som omfattade arbete med kraftfältsanalyser pågick ca fem månader (från januari till maj 2011).Under perioden mars – maj 2011 genomfördes kraftfältsanalyser med olika yrkesgrupper; professorerer, lektorer, bitr. lektorer, forskare under meritering, samt tekniker och administrativ personal. Kraftfältsanalyserna, som var min huvudmetod för datainsamling, genomfördes över en hel dag 9 – 17 samt fem uppföljningsdagar över vardera en halv dag 9 – 12. Arbetet med kraftfältsanalyserna såväl startades som avslutades i möten med samtliga medarbetare på institutionen. Startmötet var över en halv arbetsdag och innehöll en introduktion med teoribakgrund och en beskrivning av metoden. Slutmötet var över en heldag och innebar en summering av resultatet från samtliga processer samt en dialog i storgrupp kring konsekvenserna från dessa.De metoder som använts har sina rötter i aktionsforskningsorienterade och interaktiva metoder, och i pragmatismen (Durkin 1964, Boalt Boëthius och Jern 1996, Olsson 1998, Lewin 1997, Cunningham 2001, Herr and Anderson 2005, de Board 1978, McNiff and Whitehead 2009, Olav Eikeland 2006, Aagaard Nielsen and Svensson 2006, Aagaard Nielsen and Steen Nielsen 2006, Marrow 1969, Kolb 1984, Aspelin 1990, Rorty 2003, Kitzler 2007, Greenwood and Levin 2007). I min empiri prövade jag en tillämpning av kraftfältsanalys med stöd av Agazarian (1997).Som konsult (praktiker) har jag dessutom använt mig av gestaltterapeutiska metoder som utvecklats till stöd för organisationskonsultation (Barber 2009, Brown 1996, Cunningham 2001, Gaffney 2010, Nevis 1987). Det finns ett tydligt samband mellan forskningstraditioner inom å ena sidan aktionsforskningsorienterade och interaktiva metoder och pragmatism och å andra sidan organisationskonsultation med rötter i gestaltterapi. Jag visar på detta samband.Den amerikanska tillämpning som används av kraftfältsanalysen bedöms varit för instrumentell. Genom denna tillämpning förloras den dynamiska aspekten och metoden blir alltför målstyrd.Uppsatsen visar på att sammanblandning mellan konsultroll och forskarroll är problematisk. Intresset för förbättringsarbete ökar med kundernas hårdare krav på kvalitet och efterfrågan av individanpassade tjänster. Dock finns det också en allmän uppfattning om att 70 procent av förbättringsarbetena misslyckas vilket kan tyda på att ett förbättringsarbete är krävande och svåruppnåeligt. Den här studien vill lyfta fram positiva exempel där verksamheter inom hälso- och sjukvården har lyckats att genomföra ett förbättringsarbete och samtidigt har fått en positiv följsamhet av ett nytt arbetssätt. Med positiv följsamhet avses att det nya arbetssättet förbli varaktig över tid. Syftet med studien är att kartlägga och förstå faktorer som påverkar den positiva följsamheten av ett nytt arbetssätt. Frågeställningar som studien skulle besvara är: · Vilka skillnader och likheter finns mellan stora och mindre förbättringsarbeten? · Vilka faktorer spelar roll vid förbättring av ett nytt arbetssätt så att den blir varaktig över tid? För att kunna besvara studiens frågeställningar valdes en kvalitativ forskningsmetod. Intervjuerna genomfördes med hjälp av en dialogmetod, ”Apprecitive Inquiry”. Studien grundar sig i nio förbättringsarbeten. Det som har kommit fram är att ringa kunskaper i förbättringsarbete är tillräckliga för att genomföra ett lyckat förbättringsarbete som även kom att förbli varaktig över tid. Det gemensamma för förbättringsarbeten är att de har använt sig av ett strukturerat och systematiskt arbetssätt (PDSA förbättringscykeln) med tvärprofessionella arbetsgrupper och målstyrning under förändringsfasen. Samtliga respondenter förknippar förändringsarbete med positiva känslor och understryker vinsternas betydelse för ett lyckat utfall av förbättringsarbete. Det formella ledarskapet är mycket tydligt och gestaltar sig på ett strukturerat och systematiskt sätt i de stora förbättringsarbetena under hela förändringsprocessen. Däremot inom mindre förbättringar är ledarskapet informellt och grundar sig i enskilda individers motivation, stort engagemang och kunskap. Engagemang, delaktighet och ansvarskänsla kännetecknar samtliga förbättringar. I stora förbättringsarbeten bygger socialt kapital på ledarskapets kvalitet, tillitsskapande strukturer och system medan inom de mindre förbättringarna bygger den på individers förmågor och kunskap. Målstyrning och vinster lyfts upp av samtliga respondenter som framgångsfaktorer i förbättringsarbete. En arbetsgrupp med mandat att förändra och engagerade och närvarande ledare är ytterligare framgångsfaktorer som lyfts upp inom de stora förbättringarna medan samarbete och feedback lyfts upp inom de mindre förbättringarna. Resultatet från de studerade förbättringsarbetena visar att förbättringsarbete som utgår från behov i verksamheten, påvisar vinster och kännetecknas av motivation, socialt kapital, tydligt ledarskap och strukturer samt systematik har förutsättningar för att åstadkomma ett hållbart förbättringsarbete med positiv följsamhet av ett nytt arbetssätt.<br>Interest in improvement work increases with customers' stricter requirements for quality and demand for individualized services. However, there is also a general perception that 70 percent of the improvement work fails, which may indicate that an improvement work is demanding and difficult to achieve. This study wants to highlight positive examples where activities in the health care system have succeeded in implementing improvement work and at the same time have gained a positive compliance with a new way of working. The purpose of the study is to map and understand factors that affect the positive compliance of a new way of working. The questions on which the study were based on were: • What are the differences and similarities between large and small improvement works? • What factors play a role in improving a new way of working? In order to be able to answer the study's questions, a qualitative research method was chosen. The interviews were conducted using a dialogue method, Appreciative Inquiry. In total, the respondents have reported on nine improvement works. What has emerged is that very limited knowledge in improvement work is sufficient to carry out successful improvement work that also remained lasting over time. Furthermore, the choice of improvement work is based on the needs of the business and not on strategic choices. What the improvement work has in common is that they have used a structured and systematic approach (PDSA improvement cycle) with interprofessional working groups and goal management during the change phase. All respondents associate change work with positive emotions and emphasize the importance of profits for a successful outcome of improvement work. The formal leadership is very clear and takes shape in a structured and systematic way in the major improvement work throughout the change process. On the other hand, within minor improvements, leadership is informal and based on individuals' motivation, great commitment and knowledge. Commitment, participation and a sense of responsibility characterize all improvements. In major improvement work, social capital is based on the quality of leadership, trust-building structures and systems, while in the smaller improvements it is based on individuals' abilities and knowledge. All respondents highlight goal management and gains in improvement work as success factors. In addition, it was considered within major improvements that a working group with a mandate to change and committed and present leaders are success factors, while within minor improvements it was cooperation and feedback that were success factors. David Lewin, in his 1986 article “Music Theory, Phenomenology, and Modes of Perception,” offers a promising methodological approach for the analysis of tonal music from a phenomenological perspective. Lewin’s phenomenological method has a propensity to render seemingly contradictory readings in such a way that their respective validities can be preserved by articulating them within differentiated contexts. Expanding upon Lewin’s phenomenological work with analyzing tonal music, I propose that a phenomenological investigation of an atonal song, Webern op. 3, no. 1, from within a variety of differentiated contexts can shed light upon what it means to perceive a piece of music as being “not in a key.” This thesis will open with an introduction to Lewin’s phenomenological work and the writings of Edmund Husserl and Izchak Miller that Lewin used as a point of departure. The analysis of Webern op. 3, no. 1, that follows will regard the voice and piano parts as differentiated musical contexts in order to investigate the interaction between these contexts as they generally undermine the perception of tonality in the song. Finally, the notion of a “musical context” as an organizing factor of musical perception will be expanded to include the different analytical approaches of Olli Väisälä and Elmar Budde as they interact to reveal contrasting aspects of the song’s multivalent structure.

Ingrid Winterbach's novels especially the latest novels since Die boek van toeval en toeverlaat are characterised by an unconventional sense of humour. Although the comic aspects of her work are frequently referred to, no systematic research of the specific comic aspects of her work has been undertaken to date, despite humour being a striking part of her work. Almost everyone who conducts research on the comical reflects on the issue that any scientific study of humour usually negates the humour of the subject matter. The many divergent attempts to create a theory of humour in literature were split into three useful groups by Perks (2012). Some theories address incongruency, others degradation, and the third group of theories discusses the relief associated with the comical. This interpretation of the theories of humour is used in this study to discuss the humour in three of Winterbach's novels. Although it is possible to discuss many of the situations that arise in the novels in terms of incongruency, degradation, or relief (often by using all three theories), it is readily apparent that Winterbach's unique sense of humour is not sufficiently captured by using just these theories. To investigate the effect of humour in Winterbach's novels, the interpretation of humour, as suggested by Milan Kundera in Testaments betrayed (1993), is used, wherein the Czech writer describes humour as a specific species of the comic that renders ambiguous everything it touches. This ambiguity that is created by the comical plays a central part in Winterbach's work.<br>Ingrid Winterbach se romans veral die laaste romans sedert Die boek van toeval en toeverlaat word deur 'n aweregse humorsin gekenmerk. Hoewel daar dikwels na komiese aspekte van haar werk verwys word, is geen stelselmatige ondersoek van spesifiek die komiese aspekte van haar werk tot dusver onderneem nie, terwyl dit 'n besonder opvallende kenmerk van Winterbach se werk is. Byna almal wat oor die komiese navorsing doen, wys op die probleem wat daarmee ontstaan aangesien 'n wetenskaplike studie juis dikwels die komiese ondermyn. Die talle uiteenlopende pogings om die komiese in letterkunde te teoretiseer, word deur Perks (2012) op 'n nuttige wyse in drie groepe gedeel. Mediante a perspectiva epistemolÃgica de Kurt Lewin, buscamos saber o quanto estas dualidades expressariam o modo de pensamento galilÃico e o que hà do modo aristotÃlico. Ora, uma vez que Freud oscilou entre as duas formas de pensamento, procuramos, no seu prÃprio texto, algumas indicaÃÃes que pudessem servir como referÃncia galilÃica suplementar. Consideramos que ao falar sobre plasticidade e adesividade libidinais, ele teria estabelecido um continuum entre estas categorias em relaÃÃo: em vez de opÃ-las em dicotomias aristotÃlicas, ele as teria conectado dialeticamente como verdadeiras dualidades ou sÃries de fenÃmenos que compreenderiam uma variaÃÃo contÃnua entre si. Tal justificaria o reconhecimento de que fases de transiÃÃo estariam sempre presentes entre a normalidade e a patologia, e saÃde e doenÃa, respectivamente. (2) Apesar da distinÃÃo entre seus campos de referÃncia, a lÃgica que descobrimos haver em Freud à algo comparÃvel com o que Canguilhem atribuiu à normatividade vital.<br>We search here about two kinds of conceptual dualities in Freud: health/disease and normality/pathology. By means of Kurt Lewinâs epistemological perspective, we seek to know how these dualities could correspond to Galilean and Aristotelian ways of scientific thought. Having evidenced that Freud had shown an oscillation between the modes of scientific thought, we have sought, through Freudâs own works, some indication which would help as a supplementary Galilean reference. We considerate, then, that Freudâs view on plasticity and adhesiveness of libido present the idea of a continuum between the two phenomena. That is, instead of opposing them in the way of the Aristotelian dichotomies, Freud has dialectically connected them as dualities and series of phenomena which show internal and continuous variation among themselves. This testifies the existence of some phases of transition between normality and pathology and health and disease. Once Freud had only conceived but never formalized his idea in epistemological terms, we have tried to do this. By means of Canguilhem theory life normativity and the differences between normality and health as well as abnormality and pathology, we have found out that: (1) the above mentioned dualities correspond to the Galilean way of thought; this occurs mainly when Freud refers to neurosis; Freud conceived them as a series of phenomena that show internal and continued interconnection. (2) Despite the difference between their fields of reference, the logic found in Freud is somewhat comparable to what Canguilhem attributed to life normativity.

Learning by cooking är ett projekt inspirerat av aktionsforskning, och sammansvetsas med Kurt Lewins modell för aktionsforskning från förstudie till det praktiska arbetets slut. Projektet genomfördes på ett fritidshem under våren 2016, och under fem veckor förvandlades fritidshemmet till en restaurang. Under dessa veckor, två dagar i veckan, serverades mellanmål till många hungriga fritidshemsbarn. Personalen i restaurangen bestod av studenten själv i egenskap av köksmästare samt kockar direkt hämtade från barngruppen. Fokus var att skapa en trivsam måltidsmiljö som varierade från dag till dag, både rumsligt och måltidsmässigt, men berörde även frågor kring fritidshemmets uppdrag och fritidspedagogens yrkesroll, samt matlagning som ett pedagogiskt verktyg. I projektet upptäcktes många dolda talanger inom det kulinariska området, vilket visade sig i god mat, gott samarbete och mycket glädje. Projektet skulle leda till att restaurangen skulle leva vidare efter avslutat projekt, och bli en del av de övriga aktiviteterna som fritidshemmet erbjuder.

lives of soldiers who took part in it. Some experiences have become embedded in their
memories and are reflected in yams about such episodes and anecdotes that constitute a wealth
of oral art. From a cultural history point of view, these therefore deserve to be recorded and
conserved. The study interprets the narratives against the background of the border war and
determines the relationship between these stories and the influence of the war on the lives of
soldiers.
Examples of war hwnour are grouped into stories about personal hygiene, misunderstandings,
boyish pranks, practical jokes and other humorous incidents. As in any war, soldiers were
confronted with unpleasant experiences such as bad news from home, the death of comrades
and the enemy, adventures with wild animals and the loss of pets. Tales about soldiers'
experiences during contact with the enemy allow one to gain insight into the functioning of
the human mind. These stories are grouped into heroic deeds, narrow escapes and feelings
experienced in contact with the enemy. As far as is known, no legends had their origin in the
border war, but stories about quite a few legendary characters are told. Stories about helicopter
pilots and trackers might eventually develop into legends, because of the fearlessness and skill
of these people. Myths are stories originating in folkbelief, in which God or the gods play an
important role. However, stories from the border war about chaplains and religion are not
myths, but tales about personal experience with a religious inclination.
It is clear from the narratives that religion played an important role in the lives of soldiers and
that they had a child-like trust in a Supreme Being. Leaders, trackers and helicopter pilots were
identified as important people in soldiers' battle for survival. They also had a need of female
company and the presence of women. Pets played a significant role in allowing them to
express their emotions. Each soldier experienced confrontation with death and the enemy in
his own unique manner. In spite of hardships, many tales of a humorous nature were told. This
can be regarded as a way of dealing and coping with unpleasant experiences.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die veronderstelling is dat gebeure gedurende die grensoorlog (SW AI Angola) In
invloed/impak op die soldate wat daaraan deelgeneem het, se lewens gehad het. Sekere
ervarings is in hulle geheue vasgele en kom in die vorm van belewenisvertellings en staaltjies
na Yore, wat In ryke skat van volkswoordkuns bied. Dit verdien daarom om vanuit In
kultuurhistoriese oogpunt opgeteken en bewaar te word. Die studie vertolk die vertellings teen
die agtergrond van die grensoorlog en bepaal die verband tussen die vertellings en die invloed
van die oorlog op die lewens van soldate.
Voorbeelde van oorlogshumor word gegroepeer in verhale wat handel oor persoonlike higiene,
misverstande, kwajongstreke, poetse en ander humoristiese insidente. Soos in enige oorlog,
is soldate gekonfronteer met onaangename wedervarings soos slegte nuus van die huis af, die
dood van makkers en die vyand, wedervarings met wilde diere en die verlies van troeteldiere.
Vertellings oor soldate se ervarings tydens kontak met die vyand verleen insig in die werking
van die menslike gees en is gegroepeer in heldedade, noue ontkomings en gevoelens wat
ervaar is in kontak met die vyand. Sover bekend bestaan daar nie legendes uit die grensoorlog
nie, maar daar is van In hele paar legendariese karakters vertel. Vanwee hulle
onverskrokkenheid en vemuf kan verhale oor helikoptervlieeniers en spoorsnyers met verloop
van tyd legendes word. Mites is verhale wat uit die volksgeloof spruit en waarin God of gode
Inbelangrike rol speel. Verhale uit die grensoorlog wat handel oor kapelane en godsdiens, is
egter nie mites nie maar belewenisvertellings met In godsdienstige strekking.
Uit die vertellings blyk dit dat godsdiens In belangrike rol in die lewens van soldate gespeel
het en dat daar In kinderlike vertroue in In Hoer Hand was. Leiersfigure, spoorsnyers en
helikoptervlieeniers is geidentifiseer as belangrike persone in soldate se oorlewingstryd. Daar
was ook In behoefte aan vroulike geselskap en teenwoordigheid. Troeteldiere het In belangrike
rol gespeel om uiting te gee aan emosies. Soldate het konfrontasie met die dood en die vyand
elkeen op sy eie unieke manier beleef. Ten spyte van ontberings, is daar heelwat verhale met
In humoristiese strekking vertel en dit kan beskou word as In manier om onaangename
ervarings te hanteer en te verwerk.

In natural sciences, frequentist paradigm has led statistical practice; however, Bayesian approach has been gaining strength in the last decades. Our study assessed the scalloped hammerhead shark population on the western North Atlantic Ocean using Bayesian methods. This approach allowed incorporate diverse types of errors in the surplus production model and compare the influences of different statistical estimators on the values of the key parameters (r, growth rate; K carrying capacity; depletion, FMSY , fishing levels that would sustain maximum yield; and NMSY, abundance at maximum sustainable yield). Furthermore, we considered multi-levelpriors due to the variety of results on the population growth rate of this species. Our research showed that estimator selection influences the results of the surplus production model and therefore, the value of the target management points. Based on key parameter estimates with uncertainty and Deviance Information Criterion, we suggest that state-space Bayesian models be used for assessing scalloped hammerhead shark or other fish stocks with poor data available. This study found the population was overfished and suffering overfishing. Therefore, based on our research and that there was very low evidence of recovery according with the last data available, we suggest prohibition of fishing for this species because: (1) it is highly depleted (14% of its initial population), (2) the fishery status is very unstable over time, (3) it has a low reproductive rate contributing to a higher risk of overexploitation, and (4) the easiness of misidentification among different hammerhead sharks (smooth, great, scalloped and cryptic species).<br>Master of Science

Entre maio de 2012 e maio de 2014 foram amostrados 253 exemplares de S. lewini. A análise do conteúdo estomacal foi realizada em 248 espécimes. Desse total, 84% apresentaram algum tipo de alimento. Foram identificados16 itens, sendo 11identificados em nível de espécie, três como gênero e dois como família. A categoria peixes foi a mais representativa,correspondendo a 57 %IRI, seguida por crustáceos (25 %IRI) e cefalópodes (18%IRI). As famílias observadas na dieta foram: Peixes:Ariidae, Engraulidae, Ophichtidae Sciaenidae e Trichiuridae; Cefalópodes: Loliginidae; e Crustáceos: Penaeidae e Sergestidae. Genom att intervjua personer som varit med och lett förändringsarbetet i dessa tre organisationer har författarna fått en inblick i förändringsarbetet och vad det innebär att ständigt byta ut ledningen. Analysen av intervjusvaren följer Lewins trestegsmodell för organisationsförändring. I slutsatsen redogör vi för den påverkan som dessa specifika förutsättningar har för ledning av förändringsarbetet i organisationerna.</p>

This study is designed to observe what 21st century women‟s body ideal is, to give an insight to the women‟s body image representation on Instagram and to find out if social media influencer Michelle Lewin complies with this sociocultural image. Although there is an extensive amount of research on the mass media‟s effect on defining and imposing the ideals on women‟s body image, few studies have explored and focused on the image-based social media platform, Instagram. Instagram is an important space for body image research, as its content is mainly visual and everybody has the ability to be both a consumer and an active producer of the content. Mass media have been frequently accused of imposing limited and unachievable representations of femininity and consequently causing perceived women dissatisfaction with their bodies. As Instagram is becoming increasingly popular, it is important to explore potential ramifications of this social paradigm for current and future generations. In this study, I conduct a qualitative content analysis of images of the top fitspo influencer Michelle Lewin specifically focused on women‟s body image. By analyzing latest content (posts of the year 2018) from her Instagram account, I seek to understand what is the relation between the most common types of posts and the ones that receive most engagement from her followers. Finally the research reveals: the most common theme of the images coded are those where Michelle Lewin appears posing in a sexually suggestive manner, unrelated to any fitness activity – those are the images that receive highest engagement from her followers. My hypothesis where I state that Michelle Lewin depicts 21st century woman‟s body ideal ultimately proves right by the results of this study. At the end of the day, her body is the image of body ideal that she represents and commercializes though Instagram.

O objetivo da pesquisa foi estudar a psicologia dos Agentes de Segurança Penitenciária (ASPs), como integrantes de um grupo profissional no exercício de sua função no interior do cárcere. O referencial teórico foi a Teoria de Campo de Kurt LEWIN, com destaque para os conceitos de espaço de vida, pessoa e ambiente, regiões, barreiras, locomoção e tempo. O objeto de estudo foi 27 ASPs de duas Penitenciárias masculinas do Estado de São Paulo. Esses agentes foram observados em três situações de trabalho, especialmente nas portarias e nas gaiolas das penitenciárias, durante 120 horas, ou dez plantões. As observações, de matiz etnográfico, que incluíram ações, gestos, palavras e ambiente físico, foram registradas em cadernos de campo. A análise das observações foi realizada mediante a leitura dos conceitos lewinianos, subsidiada por outros estudos das prisões e das relações grupais no interior do cárcere. A sistematização das análises permitiu inferir que: i) o ambiente das prisões não é apenas perigoso e insalubre, como também lugar de trabalho precarizado e pauperizado; ii) as pessoas dos ASPs ressentem-se da condição inadequada de trabalho, mas poucos conseguem, no sentido da transformação do ambiente; iii) as más condições de trabalho levam à precarização da própria existência pessoal dos ASPs; iv) o ambiente da prisão leva à vitimização das pessoas, sejam funcionários ou presos. Os resultados foram discutidos à luz dos conceitos enunciados, que permitiram esclarecer, do ponto de vista psicossocial, o exercício da função do ASP como identidade profissional paradoxal: ora agente repressor, ora agente ressocializador. Essa ambiguidade característica resulta de uma situação de equilíbrio precário entre regiões de valências opostas e entre forças de natureza diversa, além de ser resultante da interação com o ambiente, que inclui o grupo dos ASPs e o grupo dos presos<br>The aim of this research was analyzing the psychology of correctional officers as members of a professional group carrying out their duty inside the prison. The theoretical reference was Kurt Lewins field theory, highlighting the concepts of life space, individual and environment, regions, barriers, locomotion and time. The purpose of the investigation was 27 correctional officers from two male correction facilities in Sao Paulo State. These officers were observed in three working situations, mainly in the gatehouses and in the prison cages, for 120 hours, or ten shifts. The observations, with ethnographic tone, which included actions, gestures, words and physical environment, were recorded in field notebooks. The analysis of the observations was accomplished through the reading of Lewinian concepts, helped by other studies on prisons and group relations inside the correction facilities. The systematization of the analyses helped inferring that: i) the environment of the correctional facilities is not only dangerous and unhealthy, but also fragile and meager; ii) the correctional officers, as human beings, are resentful of the inadequate working conditions, but few succeed, in the sense of environment transformation; iii) the bad working conditions lead to an impoverishment of the correctional officers personal existence itself; iv) the prison environment induces the victim hood of the individuals, officers and prisoners alike. The results were discussed in the light of the declared concepts, which allowed explain, in the psychosocial point of view, the correctional officers duty role as a paradoxical professional identity: sometimes a repressor agent, sometimes a resocializer agent. This distinctive ambiguity results from a precariously balanced situation among areas with opposed validity and among several different forces, and it is also a result of the interaction with the environment, which includes the group of correctional officers and the group of prisoners

Located near the equator, the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago (SPSPA) is a group of small islands where hammerhead sharks are frequently observed. For that reason, the SPSPA was selected for the study of hammerhead shark movements, through satellite tagging, using PSAT (Pop up satellite archival transmitting tag).Three females were tagged, two in October 2010 (TM 1: 250 cm TL e TM 2: 260 cm TL), and one in March 2012 (TM 3: 200 cm TL). Although all tags were programmed to remain attached to the animals, collecting data, for 70 days, TM 1 and TM 2 tags were released prematurely, on the 7th and 5th day of monitoring, respectively. TM3 tag was released at the programmed date. According to the deploy and pop-up information (TM 1 e TM 2) and geolocation (TM 3), all sharks remained in SPSPA surroundings during the monitoring period, diving at great depths, mainly during the night, with the deepest dive of 728 m being recorded for TM 3. TM 1 and TM 2 had a depth preference between the surface and 150 m, while TM3 had a more restricted depth preference (surface to 75 m) during both periods, day and night. The temperature profile indicated that the three tagged hammerhead sharks preferred to be in temperatures between 24° C and above 26°C. Despite the great amount of time spent by all sharks in depths attributed to thermocline in SPSPA, the specimens moved from the mixing layer to the mesopelagic zone. In spite of the relevance of the obtained information for the understanding of the species movement patterns, complimentary studies are yet necessary to elucidate its migratory behavior.<br>O tubarão martelo (Sphyrna lewini) apresenta distribuição circuntropical, abrangendo desde as áreas costeiras e semi-oceânicas das regiões tropicais e temperadas até aos ecossistemas insulares. Localizado próximo à região equatorial, o arquipélago de São Pedro e São Paulo (ASPSP) é um conjunto de pequenas ilhas onde existe a ocorrência do tubarão martelo. Por essa razão, o ASPSP foi o local escolhido para o monitoramento via satélite da espécie através da utilização do transmissor eletrônico PSAT (Pop up satellite archival transmitting tag). Foram marcadas três fêmeas, duas em outubro de 2010 (TM 1 e TM 2) medindo 250 cm e 260 cm (CT), respectivamente, e uma última em março de 2012 (TM 3) com 200 cm de CT. Embora os três transmissores os três transmissores tenham sido programados para coletarem dados por 70 dias, ocorreu o desprendimento prematuro das marcas do TM 1 e TM 2, após um período de fixação aos tubarões de apenas 7 e 5 dias, respectivamente. De acordo com os dados de marcação e soltura dos transmissores (TM 1 e TM 2) e de geolocalização (TM 3), os três tubarões permaneceram no entorno do ASPSP durante o período em que foram monitorados. Os três espécimes foram capazes de realizar incursões frequentes a grandes profundidades principalmente durante a noite, com o mergulho mais profundo registrado a 728 m, atribuído ao TM 3. Os tubarões TM 1 e TM 2 frequentaram preferencialmente as profundidades entre a superfície e 150 m tanto de dia quanto à noite. Já o TM 3 passou a maior parte do tempo em uma faixa que variou entre a superfície e 75 m de profundidade em ambos os períodos. Os perfis de temperatura indicaram que os três espécimes permaneceram com maior frequência em águas aquecidas, entre 24 °C e acima de 26 °C, no período diurno e noturno. A despeito do elevado tempo de permanência dos três tubarões em profundidades atribuídas à termoclina nas proximidades do ASPSP, os espécimes se deslocaram desde a camada de mistura até a zona mesopelágica. Apesar da relevância das informações obtidas para a compreensão dos padrões de deslocamento da espécie, são necessários ainda estudos complementares para elucidar o seu comportamento migratório.

O tubarão-martelo, Sphyrna lewini é um dos mais valiosos recursos marinhos, e o preço pago por suas barbatanas no mercado Asiático pode atingir acima dos U$ 100,00/kg. A análise da composição de tamanhos e idades nas capturas, o estudo do crescimento desta espécie de grande porte e a evolução temporal dos desembarques, indicaram que este recurso se encontra sobreexplotado no sudeste e sul do Brasil, como reflexo de diferentes modalidades pesqueiras atuando ao longo de todo o seu ciclo de vida e à baixa resiliência desta espécie à pesca, por apresentar um crescimento lento (L∞ = 329,12 cm; K = 0,071 ano-1; to = -2,37 ano; sexos combinados), longevidade acima dos 40 anos e mortalidade natural baixa (M = 0,1 ano-1 na fase adulta), padrões estes típicos de uma espécie K-estrategista . A sobrepesca de recrutamento, ocorre nas áreas costeiras, principalmente pela pesca de arrasto e emalhe costeiro, não havendo a proteção das áreas de parto na primavera-verão. Neste caso há grandes capturas de neonatos e juvenis até 8 anos de idade. A tração adulta por sua vez é reduzida pela pesca de espinheI e de emalhe de superfície principalmente na zona de talude. Modelos de análise de covariância indicaram maiores capturas desta espécie na pesca de espinheI de monofilamento de superfície durante os meses de primavera-verão, na zona de talude (200 e 3000 m) e a existência de uma relação linear positiva entre a captura em peso e o esforço em número de anzóis. Medidas de manejo e conservação para esta espécie são sugeridas.<br>The scalloped hammerhead shark Sphyrna lewini is one of the most valuable marine resources, due to its high-priced fins in the Asian market, which can reach U$ 100,00/kg. The analysis of the length and age composition in the catches, growth studies, and the annual development of its landings in southern Brazil, showed signs of overexploitation for the species. This effect was mainly caused by different fishing gears exploiting all the phases of its life-cycle and its low resilience to fishing pressure due to its slow-growing strategy (L∞ = 329,12 cm; K = 0,071 yr-1; to = -2,37 ano; both sexes), longevity (> 40 yrs.) and low natural mortality (M = 0,1 yr-1, during adult phase), which means a K\'strategic typical pattern. Recruitment overfishing use to happen in coastal areas by trawls and anchored gillnets activities which destroy the nurseries and juvenile grounds for the species, mainly in spring-summer months when the parturition occurs. On the other hand, the adult fraction of the stock is reduced by surface longline and driftnets activities along the continental slope. For the surface monofilament longline fisheries, covariance models detected the highest catches of scalloped hammerhead sharks along the slope (between 200 - 3000 m depth), during spring-summer months. There was also a positive linear relationship between catch (in weight) and effort (hook number). Management and conservation measures are recommended for this species.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka, beskriva och analysera musiklärares syn på sitt arbete med gruppdynamik i ensembleundervisning inom olika musikgenrer. Metoden som har använts för att uppnå detta är kvalitativa intervjuer enligt hermeneutisk metod samt analyser. Analyserna utgår från teoretiska perspektiv hämtade från Lewin, Forsyth och Blumer och används för att definiera informanternas syn på ensembler samt beskriva hur olika faktorer påverkar varandra när det gäller dynamik i grupper. Resultatet handlar om hur informanterna definierar grupperna de leder och därigenom vad de anser skapar en grupp. Det handlar även om vilken energi som finns i en grupp, hur informanterna går till väga för att fånga gruppen i stunden samt varför de anser det vara viktigt och hur gruppers sammansättning påverkar gruppdynamiken och lärandesituationen. Sammanfattningen av analysen genom Lewins formel gav bland annat att energin i grupper har en framträdande roll för informanterna, till exempel hur någon(-s) energi påverkar annan(-s) energi. Lärare och elevers dagsform gör att de påverkar på olika sätt samt är olika mycket mottagliga, och att det aldrig går att förutse hur en grupplektion kommer att bli. Analysen genom Lewins formel visar också i informanternas svar att ensemblen är beroende av sammansättningen av elever, vilka elever som kom just den dagen, och vad de varit med om. Lärarens jobb är att kunna hantera situationen i stunden och vara beredd på föränderligheten.<br>The purpose of this study is to explore, describe and analyze the views of music teachers and their work with group dynamics in student ensembles in various musical genres. The applied method in this study is qualitative interviews according to phenomenological methodology and analysis. The theoretical perspectives are taken from Lewin, Forsyth and Blumer, and are used to define the perspectives of the informants regarding ensembles and how they affect each other regarding group dynamics. The result appertains to how the informants define the groups they are leading, and thus what they consider creates a group. It is also about the energy contained in a group, how the informants are capturing the group at a particular moment and why they believe this is important and how the make-up of a group affects the group dynamics and the learning situation. The summary of the analysis by Lewin's formula states that the energy of the groups have a prominent role for the informants, such as how some/someone’s energy affects another/another’s energy. The emotional state of teachers and students make an impact in different ways and are also affected in various ways, and that it is impossible to predict how a group lesson will be. The analysis by Lewin's formula related to the result also indicates that the ensemble depends on the composition of students. Which students who came that day, and in which mental state they are. The teacher's duty is to handle the situation at hand, and be prepared for the unexpected.
