Abstract:
The article deals with the peculiarities of the lexico-semantic field ‘neuroscience’ on the basis of the popular science books “Livewired” and ‘Incognito’ by D. Eagleman. The concepts of ‘lexico-semantic group’, ‘thematic group’ and ‘lexico-semantic field’ are distinguished. The study of the concept of lexico-semantic field dates back to the last century with the works of German scholars G. Ipsen, J. Trier, and W. Porzig. A lexical-semantic field (LSF) includes components that are semantically united. A thematic group is a narrower concept and is part of a lexical-semantic field. A lexico-semantic group can be a part of both a thematic group and a lexico-semantic field; the components in such a group are united by a common category or structure. LSPs based on medical vocabulary have been studied before, but such studies have not focused on neurology or neuroscience. Therefore, the lexical units of the lexical-semantic field were selected from the research material by the method of general sampling and divided into 7 lexical-semantic groups: ‘disorders of the nervous system’, ‘specialists in the field of neuroscience’, ‘procedures and operations’, ‘chemicals of the nervous system’, ‘components of the nervous system’, ‘scientific disciplines related to neuroscience’ and ‘processes of the nervous system’. The fullness of these groups was determined and compared, the largest of which was ‘components of the nervous system’, and the smallest - ‘neuroscience specialists’ and ‘procedures and operations’. The number of different lexical units (LUs) in these groups was determined and compared. The most widely represented group turned out to be “components of the nervous system,” while the least represented was “scientific disciplines related to neuroscience.” The frequency of use of lexical units within the studied lexical-semantic field was also calculated, and it was found that the ratio of usage frequency in the identified lexical-semantic groups corresponds to the number of different LUs in them.

Abstract:
The article shows that lexico-semantic innovations in the Ukrainian language system of proper names which are characterized by a specific neurophysiological mechanism of formation require in-depth study. The relevance of the article lies in the fact that lexico-semantic word formation used to be mainly considered in the diachronic aspect, which led to little attention to ergonyms and pragmonyms as relevant classes of proper names. The article aims to analyze lexico-semantic innovations in the context of ergonyms and pragmonyms and determine their role in word formation in the system of naming-related tools in the modern Ukrainian language. Research methods include observations, analogies, analysis, synthesis, linguistic description, component analysis, structural-semantic analysis, statistical methods. The article proves that lexico-semantic word formation is the most active and productive way of replenishing the fund of ergonyms and pragmonyms in the Ukrainian language under the conditions of a transition economy. The main types of lexico-semantic word formation are derivational metaphor and derivational metonymy. They enable the formation of both simple and compound lexico-semantic innovations mostly represented by binary word combinations. Including all layers of vocabulary in the scope of such a type of word formation can bring unlimited prospects of its functioning in the future. The international value of the research implies clarifying the role of lexico-semantic word formation in the naming system of modern Ukrainian, describing important fragments of the lexical structure of the Ukrainian language, systematizing modern lexico-semantic naming models, and determining the ways of activating lexico-semantic substitution. For the first time in Ukrainian linguistics, the research analyzes peripheral classes of proper names in various ways, classifies ergonyms by thematic groups and motivational features underlying the naming unit and reveals the specifics of different semantic groups of Ukrainian pragmonyms.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the structuring the term system of biomedical engineering in Russian, English and Chinese by lexico-semantic and cognitive analysis. The terms of the thematic subgroup «Biosensor and bioelectronic systems» as a part of the term system of biomedical engineering are considered; they are listed in three languages (in Russian, English and Chinese); their Chinese phonetic transcriptions are shown after Chinese analogues; the compositions of this subgroup are systematized according to their lexico-semantic features, the internal hierarchical structure is presented in the scheme; its logical structure is organized on the basis of cognitive analysis by the method of frame modeling, the frame scheme clearly reflects the relationship between scientific concepts represented by the corresponding terms; each term is indexed according to its place in the term system. The results of the study allow us to conclude that, firstly, the term system of biomedical engineering is systemic on two levels: lexico-terminological and logico-conceptual; secondly, the lexico-semantic approach to the study of the term system’s structure shows the internal system relations between the constituent terms as lexical units, and the cognitive approach considers the terms as linguistic embodiments of scientific concepts in this area, therefore, using these two approaches to structuring the term system allows us to provide more complete information about the relationship between terms, complementing each other; thirdly, the result of the study is an important part of the terminological dictionary of biomedical engineering.

Abstract:
The article deals with the history of religious style formation in the Russian language. In the article in the lexico-grammatical and semantic aspects, the names of nouns of religious semantics on -nie are considered, recorded in the XVIII century Russian lexicographic works of civil press, which provide detailed representation of confessional vocabulary: The Church Dictionary by archpriest Peter Alekseev (17731794), The Short Slavic Dictionary by abbot Evgeny (Romanov) (1784) and The Dictionary of the Russian Academy (17891794). The relevance of the study is due to the absence to date of special linguistic studies related to the study of the names of nouns of religious semantics on -nie, as well as functional significance of this class of words for the formation of religious style of the Russian language of the XVIII century. The work used methods of stylistic, grammatical, thematic, etymological analysis, as well as methods of semantic field and component analysis of dictionary definitions. In the course of the study, the semantic features of religionyms-substances on -nie were described, their lexico-grammatical categories and thematic groups were described, within the framework of these groups neoplasms of the 18th century were revealed. It is shown that the names of nouns of religious semantics on -nie firmly took their place in the lexical system of the religious style of the Russian language of the XVIII century, expressing both specific and non-specific (abstract and collective) lexico-grammatical meanings. It has been established that most of the derivatives considered belong to the lexico-grammatical category of abstract names denoting an abstract positive or negative action in spiritual and moral terms. At the same time, it was noted that the semantics of the names of nouns of religious semantics on -nie in the Russian language of the XVIII century was in a state of its active formation, characterized in most cases by complexity, which is manifested in the presence of several partial not only homogeneous, but also heterogeneous types of lexico-semantic meanings.

Abstract:
Language, as a social symbol, functions to express world experiences, construct social role relationships, and choose words and sentences to organize discourse. The interaction between language meta-functions is a problem deserved studying. From the perspective of textual meta-function, this paper tries to discuss the mechanisms of organizing Appraisal system as a texture, and construct a rather comprehensive analysis framework of the textual devices for evaluation meaning as a whole text. The framework built consists of three strata (contextual, discourse-semantic, and lexico-grammatical), two dimensions (micro and macro), and an intermediary variable (rhetorical strategies). At the contextual stratum, the generic structure of genre and mode of register, through rhetorical strategies, determine the distribution and combination patterns of evaluative meaning at the discourse-semantic stratum. In micro dimension, cohesion, information distribution pattern, and evaluative prosody, together with theme, new information and logical semantic relations in macro dimension, are combined to organize evaluation meaning at the discourse-semantic stratum. At the lexico-grammatical stratum, Appraisal meaning is thus embodied and realized by the evaluative lexical chains, thematic structures, new information structures, connectives and meta-discourse markers at the discourse-semantic level of a text. This framework reflects the interactions between the interpersonal meta-function and textual meta-function of Appraisal system and provides insights for the development of Appraisal Theory.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of the research devoted to the study of the main characteristics of environmental media discourse in the Russian information field. To solve these problems, six leading Russian federal media (Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Izvestiya, Komsomolskaya Pravda, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Lenta.Ru and Gazeta.Ru) were selected as the object of the study, in which publications related to environmental issues for the full 2023 were identified. The publications were chosen due to their similar characteristics: their focus on mass audiences, as well as their leading positions in the Russian media market in terms of audience size and citation rates. Using the Integrum media monitoring and analytical system, which contains full-text digital archives of more than 120 000 sources, we established absolute and relative values of the environmental agenda representation both in individual media and in their totality. At the next stage of the study, the frequency analysis of the most common nouns made it possible to identify the lexico-semantic core of publications about ecology. For clarity, the results were visualised in a word cloud format using the WordClouds.com service. Further thematic clustering of the most frequent lexico-semantic units helped to establish the dominant contexts of environmental media discourse, as well as to identify its characteristic concepts and other discursive components. In addition to nouns, other parts of speech were considered separately in order to analyse the evaluative character of the most common lexicon of journalistic publications. On the basis of the obtained data, assumptions were made about the peculiarities of the coverage of environmental issues in the publications and determined the dynamics of publication activity of environmental texts.

Abstract:
The relevance of the work is due to the need to study sociolects as socially marked variants of a language that have similarities and differences in the lexico-semantic and word-formation systems. In this regard, its purpose is to analyze and describe similar and contrasting elements in the sociolects of traders and criminals on the material of Russian and English languages. In the course of the study, the method of sociological observation, experiment, questioning, the method of cognitive semantics, the method of cognitive derivation, the method of questioning and associative experiment was used. The results obtained include: similarity (the presence of the same names of thematic series, the use of morphological, lexico-semantic methods of word formation), the presence of contrasts (consisting in the composition of thematic series of vocabulary, the presence of many polysemantic words, homonyms in the sociolect of criminals, phraseological units, ambiguous in origin) and stylistic affiliation, in the difference in the methods of word formation used in the sociolect of traders (abbreviation, acronymization, truncation). An integrative approach has been applied to the study of the sociolects of traders and criminals, based on expansionist, functional and anthropocentric principles. The use of the anthropocentric principle manifested itself in the description of the specifics of the social groups of criminals and traders. Expansionism was expressed in the use of methods of various sciences (cognitive linguistics, sociolinguistics, contrastive linguistics). The use of the principle of functionalism consists in describing the functions of the compared sociolects, in identifying their similar and different functions. It is concluded that the sociolects of traders and criminals are indeed socially marked variants of the language, since the compared subsystems of the language have a specific system of lexical units, that manifest themselves in the ways of word formation, and various functions due to the social characteristics of their speakers. It is noted that the article is notable for its novelty, since the study of the sociolects of traders and comparative aspect is carried out for the first time. The study of compared sociolects within the framework of the integrative methodological paradigm is also new.

Abstract:
The article continues the cycle of the authors’ publications devoted to the investigation of specifics of functioning the military terminology in the literary works by the Ukrainian writers. The analysis is directed to learning the system connections of the lexical units of terminology of military affairs in the cinema tale by O. Dovzhenko “Tale of the Fiery Years”, in particular the differentiation according to the thematic groups. Stylistic terminology is one of the most modern trends of Ukrainian terminology of the 21st century. In the analysis it is presented the list of the works which the scientists devote to studying the peculiarities of functioning the terms which are not characteristic of literary texts. The relevance of the article is due, first of all, to the absence of the complex investigations concerning the peculiarities of using the military terms in the works by O. Dovzhenko and the urgent need of the linguistic analysis of the so-called autochthonous texts. The article presents the basic thoughts concerning the definition of the notion “thematic group”, “lexico-semantic subgroup”, the thematic classification of military vocabulary is fulfilled according to the commonly accepted in terminological studying. In the article the authors analyze the military terms in the above mentioned cinema tale and define the specifics of their use in the prose work by the talented Ukrainian writer. The thematic groups, which include the military terms introduced in the text of the cinema tale by the author, are investigated. It is defined the function of this vocabulary in the work which the talented writer adjusted to taking into account the ideal essence, subject matter, art idea which were put into the base of the analyzed cinema tale. The quantitative characteristics of the defined thematic groups allows to clarify the most interesting for the writer lexical units of special vocabulary of the military affairs and also those ones he addresses more rarely.

Karamova, Aigul Ayratovna, and Tatyana Aleksandrovna Chiglintseva. "Representation of material values in Russian and English linguocultures in a paradigmatic aspect (based on publicistic texts of the early 21st century)." Philology. Theory & Practice 17, no. 8 (2024): 2794–804. http://dx.doi.org/10.30853/phil20240399.

Abstract:
The research aims to identify universal and specific lexico-phraseological means of representing Russian and British value systems, determined by their denotative correspondence. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the latest publicistic texts (the early 21st century) served as the source of factual material, which makes it possible to identify, systematize, and describe previously unexplored linguistic material. For the first time, a classification of value representatives based on their denotative correspondence, previously developed by the authors based on the Russian language, is used in a comparative study. As a result, it was found that the proposed multifaceted classification of value representatives is invariant for different linguocultures. The developed classification of representatives of material values allowed the researchers to identify both universal and specific features in the value-based linguistic worldviews of Russian and British linguocultures. This specificity is due to the state structure, political system, history, religion, and climatic conditions of the two countries, which, at the language level, is manifested in the different quantitative composition and content of the identified and described thematic groups.

Abstract:
In the current paper, the textual functionality of the system of Douglas Coupland’s literary neologisms is analyzed from the meaning-construction and communicative-pragmatic perspectives. The artistic significance of neologisms is considered in terms of the realization in the novel of such a conceptual metatrope as the principle of “death of concepts”. The paper also focuses on describing the fundamentals of classification of Coupland’s neologisms into lexico-semantic groups and word-formation types. The features of lexical, semantic and phraseological neologisms presented in the novel “Generation X: Tales for an accelerated culture” are described. The creative potential of literary neologisms is studied from the perspective of the reader relying on conceptual blending in meaning construction. It is shown that the thematic development of Douglas Copeland’s novel is determined by the use of complex semantic units consisting of neologisms and their author’s definitions. The reader’s construction of meaning of such semantic units requires, among other things, reliance on the intra-word (word-forming) context, on the macro-context of the novel, and on inferential knowledge drawn from a wider background context. Subjectivity in the reception of neologisms is determined by the development of personal meanings in the process of reading a literary text.

Abstract:
The article proposes a concept for researching the conceptual and terminological system of modern pedagogy. In accordance with contemporary demands, the necessity of forming this system has been scientifically substantiated to ensure high-quality professional training of highly qualified and competitive individuals. A well-founded concept enables the study of the genesis of the formation and development of the main categories of pedagogy and assesses the contributions of Ukrainian and foreign educators to their development. It was found that in the system of continuous professional pedagogical training for modern teachers, an important role is played by educational components that ensure a continuous, integrated, and foundational formation in the consciousness and scientific-pedagogical activities of future teachers, developing a complex of general and specialized professional competencies. The structure of the newest educational course "Pedagogy" is presented, which includes professionally oriented sections: "General Pedagogy," "Methodology of Pedagogy," "History of Education and Pedagogical Science," "Didactics," "Theory and Practice of Education," "Fundamentals of an Open Inclusive Educational Environment," and "Organization and Management of an Educational Institution." These sections are fundamental components of the continuous professional and pedagogical training of future teachers at the bachelor's level. The trends in the development of the conceptual and terminological system of pedagogy during this period are determined, including socio-political and economic, socio cultural, pedagogical, and linguistic factors. Guided by logic and the main categories, concepts, and terms of pedagogy, a subject-thematic classification of educational terms has been created. This classification is reflected in conceptual terminological groups that cover the logical-lexical features of educational components of modern pedagogy. Various types of logical connections are considered, including genus-species, species-species, and cause and-effect relationships. It was found that the scientific pedagogical terminology in these conceptual and terminological groups consists of both simple lexemes and complex terms or term-phrases.
