The 110 dative verbs are taken from the principal properties : -the subject and the indirect object are headed by a human noun -the particle eke (to) alternate only with hanthe (to) -there is a tranfer of the direct complement from the subject to the indirect object -the direct object is a human noun, etc

Full textThe semasiological analysis of german verbs of vision consisting in checking which constructions they accept or not shows that : they are divided into two categories : the ones present the process from the perspective of the perceiving subject (sehen. . . ) and the others in that of the perceived object (leuchten. . . ), the main verbs form pairs based on these perspectives : sehen/leuchten (bilateral relationship), schauen/scheinen (relationship of tension), gucken/strahlen (activity of an only element), blicken/glänzen (an activity depending upon an external factor to develop), the semanticism of each verb is based on a previsional scheme, a structure that makes it possible to foresee which constructions are accepted and which are not. The structure of the field rises out of the relationship between schemes. This essay offers new ways to the analysis of polysemy and could be highly profitable for cognitive linguists eager to root the analysis of language in the experience of the world

Full textOur work is divided into three parts. We will examine in the first part a few problems that arise when creating a bilingual lexicography; that is, the definition of a bilingual dictionary and the notions of translation, connotation and equivalence. These problems will be illustrated by examples taken from the most important Berber dictionaries. In the second part of this work, we will present the lexicon of verbs (simple and derived) of the speech dialect of the city of Inezgane. This part is presented in dictionary form; each verb entry is defined. The examples, invented or taken from our corpus, demonstrate the uses and the possible occurances of each verb. In the third part of this work, to complement the preceding chapters, we present some elements of the morphology of the verbs of the speech dialect in question. Please note that this study is not meant to be an exhaustive description of the verbal system. Finally, to end this part we have included a short discussion on the notions of root, schema, personal index, explicative complement and indicator of theme

Full textAccross four lexical decision experiments and four lexical decision with masqued prime experiments, identification and lexical representation of prefixed verbs are studied. The major factor is represented by the nature of the stem (noun, verb or potentially both). It is found that morphological structure plays an important part in the identification of prefixed verbs and that a morphological analysis is realised during reading of these morphological complex items. Experiments with masqued prime show that lexical representation of prefixed verbs depends of stem nature, items with nom inal stem are represented in a global form, items with verbal stem are represented in decomposed form. The morphological structure of verbs and the relations between prefix and stem are determining factors of representationnal format of prefixed verbs. With some adjustements, currents models are able to explain these results. An interpretation of lexical processes and memory representaion for morphologically complex prefixed verbs is proposed

Full textThe present study is an attempt to explore the possibility of analysing the meaning of motion verbs in contemporary english, and to illustrate one approach to the realization of this possibility. Specifically, its purpose is threefold. First, it is an attempt to demonstrate that an analysis of meaning, such as the one that has successfully been applied to kinship terminology, is also possible for other types of vocabulary. Second, it is meant to show some methodological implications of such an approach for the treatment of certain linguistic problems such as 'synonymy', 'hyponymy', 'metaphor' and 'phonaesthesia'. Third, the study is also an attempt to characterize, in the light of recent developments on the subject, the nature of difficulties, theoretical and methodological, raised by such an analysis. The thesis is made up of two main part. Part one is concerned with theoretical problems and is divited into two chapters. The first chapter is a survey of various approaches to the study of meaning. The secon chapter is an attempt to evaluate those approaches through a discussion of some descriptive problems in the light of recent developments on the subject. Part two deals with a practical problem of analysing some verbs of motion in contemporary english. In the first chapter, other studies on ensligh motion verbs are examined. The second chapter is concerned with methodological considerations. First, verbs of motion are defined and the corpus is delimited. Then, explanations about the method adopted in this study are given. This is followed, in chapter three, by a detailed analysis of the motion verbs included in the corpus. In chapter four, the

Full textThe current research aims to provide a syntactic and semantic analysis of Modern Greek transitive non-locative constructions with one direct object: N0 V N1. Our study is based on the syntactic framework of the Transformational Grammar defined by Zellig S. Harris. We followed the Lexicon-Grammar methodology framework developed by Maurice Gross and elaborated at the LADL (Laboratoire d'Automatique Documentaire et Linguistique). Based on 16 560 morphological verbal entries, we proceeded to the classification of transitive non-locative constructions. On the basis of formal criteria we divided them into 24 distinct classes that formed an inventory of 2 934 transitive non-locative verbal uses with one direct object. Among them, 1 884 verbal uses were split into nine classes and they were formally described in 9 lexicon-grammar tables established for this purpose. More precisely, these structures include a direct object referring to the following concepts: “appearance” (32GA table), “disappearance” (32GD), “concrete” object (32GC), “body part” (32GCL), “human” object (32GH), and “obligatory plural” (32GPL). Likewise, the passive transformation is largely blocked in the 32GNM table, while the 32GCV and 32GRA tables regroup verbs accepting a support verb transformation. We present the linguistic data application in Natural Language Processing (NLP), by means of automatic tables conversion into recursive transition network automata. Moreover, we set forth our remarks on their applicability in translation from Modern Greek to French as well as in language learning/teaching (Modern Greek as first or second language)

Full textThe work that we present in our research is a lexicographic end-product, that is, a presentation of the lexis of verbs of the Berber variety spoken in central morocco. The major part of our research is devoted to an inventary of 1241 non-derived verbs. These verbal unities, as they are accumulated so as to form a dictionary of Berber verbs, are classified according to the semitists' order, that is the root. Once the collection of the verbal unities has been achieved, the presentation of the different uses is imposed. To achieve that, we have followed a classification based on syntactical criteria knowing the transitivity and non-transitivity of the verb. This verbal formula has helped us deduce the different meanings of each unity. Our dictionary is accompa-nied with one part which we have tried to present each unity in one of the following verbal structure : category a gathering the intransive verbs, category b constitued of compulksary or optional direct transitive verbs, category c and category d to which belong the direct and indirect transitive verbs. Finally we have summed up all the verbal unities in tables where their transitive or intransitive use showed up
