Abstract:
The book under review is an edited collection of eight papers presented at a seminar on “Structural Adjustment and Poverty in India: Policy and Research Issues”, and is Volume 17 in the Indo-Dutch studies on Development Alternatives. The book evaluates the impact of economic reforms on poverty alleviation in India. In the “Introduction”, the editors describe the main theme of the book and propose some policy measures for poverty alleviation in the light of the findings of the papers included in the book. The paper, “Structural Adjustment in India—What about Poverty Alleviation?”, by Pieter A. van Stuijvenberg, evaluates the impact of India’s Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) on the poor and suggests some policy corrections to mitigate the adverse effects of this adjustment on the poor. He observes an improvement in the balance-of-payments position and foreign exchange reserves without a simultaneous fall in gross domestic product under the SAP. His major concerns are the large size and composition of fiscal deficits (dominated by revenue deficits). The large size of fiscal deficits, according to van Stuijvenberg, drive up real interest rates and endanger investment-led growth. He observes that social indicators of the social safety net, employment, and rural development programmes have not improved much due to expenditure cuts on rural infrastructural investments. He suggests a reduction in the size and composition of the public sector, elimination of all explicit and implicit subsidies, and discouraging rent-seeking behaviour for a successful implementation of economic reforms.

Abstract:
We evaluated renal 131I-hippurate clearance (ERPFhip) as a measure of renal blood flow (RBF) in chronically instrumented conscious dogs. When adjusted for renal hippurate extraction (Ehip, 0.77 +/- 0.01) and hematocrit (Hct, 39.7 +/- 1%), calculated RBFhip (656 +/- 37 ml/min) markedly exceeded renal blood flow measured with renal artery blood flow probes (RBFprobe, 433 +/- 27 ml/min). The discrepancy could not be explained by flow probe calibration, because in vivo comparison of flow probe values with renal venous outflow showed only a slight underestimation of renal blood flow (slope 0.93, 95% confidence interval 0.89-0.97). Redistribution of hippurate from erythrocytes into renal venous plasma during or shortly after blood sampling led to an underestimation of Ehip by 4 +/- 1% and thus could only explain a small part of the difference. Extrarenal hippurate clearance was excluded, because the amount of 131I-hippurate cleared from plasma equaled that appearing in the urine (303 +/- 17 and 307 +/- 17 ml/min). Applying these corrections, we found that RBFhip still exceeded RBFprobe by 37 +/- 3%. These data indicate that renal blood flow measured by the hippurate clearance technique markedly overestimates true renal blood flow. Because other errors were excluded, a combination of sampling of nonrenal blood and intrarenal hippurate extraction from erythrocytes might play a role.

Abstract:
Health benefits associated with consumption of Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has been associated with relative preponderance of different aromatic glucosinolate levels. This has, therefore, led to a need for reliable method for analysis of different maca preparations. To this end, an HPLC method with high precision, reproducibility and test stability has been developed that is capable of distinguishing quality of different maca sample based on abundance of different glucosinolates. The method uses the analyses of similarity and hierarchical clustering to evaluate similarity among different maca samples. The results indicated that the combination of three aromatic glucosinolates (glucosinalbin, glucotropaeolin, and glucolimnanthin) could be used as chemotaxonomic markers for accurate recognition and quality evaluation of different maca samples.

Abstract:
PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND ENERGETIC ANALISYS OF FRESH AND INDUSTRIALIZED COCONUT WATERABSTRACT: The objective of this work was to physicochemically characterize fresh and industrialized coconut water sold in Brazil and determine the energy values of industrialized beverages, to compare them with the information on product labels. Analysis of reducing sugar (RS), total reducing sugars (TRS), not reducing sugars (NRS), soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), pH, ratio (SS/TA) and turbidity were made. The results of physicochemical analyzes were compared with the Identity and Quality Standard of coconut water. The calorie content of the drinks was calculated from its chemical composition. The industrialized coconut water had higher values for soluble solids contents, RS, TRS, NRS and turbidity, and lower levels in pH, for fresh beverages. There was no significant difference in the results of ratio analysis, ash and TA. From 17 brands analyzed, two have their pH values in disagreement with the established by Brazilian law and only one revealed disagreement between label information and the results of the proximate analysis.KEYWORDS: Cocus nucifera L., non-alcoholic beverage, physicochemical analysis, caloric value, identity and quality standard.

Abstract:
With the rapid development of light-emitting diode, visible light communication (VLC) has become a candidate technology for the next generation of high-speed indoor wireless communication. In this paper, we investigate the performance of the 32-quadrature amplitude modulation (32-QAM) constellation shaping schemes for the first time, where two special circular constellations, named Circular (4, 11, 17) and Circular (1, 5, 11, 15), and a triangular constellation are proposed based on the Shannon’s criterion. Theoretical analysis indicates that the triangular constellation scheme has the largest minimum Euclidian distance while the Circular (4, 11, 17) scheme achieves the lowest peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Experimental results show that the bit error rate performance is finally decided by the value of PAPR in the VLC system due to the serious nonlinearity of the LED, where the Circular (4, 11, 17) scheme always performs best under the 7% preforward error correction threshold of 3.8 × 10−3 with 62.5Mb/s transmission data rate and 1-meter transmission distance.

Abstract:
H:Q Ratios and Bilateral Leg Strength in College Field and Court Sports PlayersOne of the key components in sports injury prevention is the identification of imbalances in leg muscle strength. However, different leg muscle characteristics may occur in large playing area (field) sports and small playing area (court) sports, which should be considered in regular injury prevention assessment. This study examined the isokinetic hamstrings-to-quadriceps (H:Q) ratio and bilateral leg strength balance in 40 male college (age: 23.4 ±2.5 yrs) team sport players (field sport=23, soccer players; court sport=17, volleyball and basketball players). Five repetitions of maximal knee concentric flexion and concentric extension were performed on an isokinetic dynamometer at two speeds (slow: 60°·s-1and fast: 300°·s-1) with 3 minutes rest between tests. Both legs were measured in counterbalanced order with the dominant leg being determined as the leg used to kick a ball. The highest concentric peak torque values (Nm) of the hamstrings and quadriceps of each leg were analyzed after body mass normalization (Nm·kg-1). Court sport players showed significantly weaker dominant leg hamstrings muscles at both contraction speeds (P < 0.05). The H:Q ratio was significantly larger in field players in their dominant leg at 60°·s-1(P < 0.001), and their non-dominant leg at 300°·s-1(P < 0.001) respectively. Sport-specific leg muscle strength was evident in college players from field and court sports. These results suggest the need for different muscle strength training and rehabilitation protocols for college players according to the musculature requirements in their respective sports.

Abstract:
Despite the substantial social and economic implications of the World Wide Web, there is still a surprising lack of empirical research on Web usage. Specifically, at the level of the individual user, little is known about key issues of Internet usage, such as the trajectory of change over time in the number of visits to Web sites, the degree of individual loyalty to Web sites, and the demographics that determine Web usage. In order to overcome this lack of research, we report in this dissertation the results of several interrelated studies of individual Web usage patterns of average citizens from the Pittsburgh area. This dissertation advances the research on individual Web usage by: - analyzing the impact of increasing Web site visiting opportunities on Web utilization rates of individual users, - employing session-based measures to data on individual Web usage in order to identify how Web users change the way they use the Web as their level of expertise increases, - analyzing whether different user groups also differ in loyalty to Web sites and whether users converge over time to a set of favorite Web sites, - specifically dealing with the issue of Web portal utilization to answer the question whether Web portal users are different from average Web users. We develop measures of Web usage that are particularly relevant from a business and public policy perspective. By applying these measures to longitudinal data on Web usage, we identify significant trends in individual Internet usage. For example, we reveal that individual Web usage is not distributed equally across subgroups of users. Web users can be clustered into four groups with distinct trajectories of Web usage. All groups reach saturation in their extent of Web usage after following a downward path. Further, most Web users spent only limited time in the Web and only a small group of users uses the Web heavily. Also, users show consistently little loyalty to Web sites. Surprisingly, as Web users gain experience in using the Web, there does not seem to be a significant shift from undirected browsing to directed access of Web sites over time. We apply regression models in order to predict the determinants of Web utilization. Individual characteristics, such as ethnic background, gender, household income, phone usage, e-mail usage, and computer skill level, determine Web usage. Thus, the results have implications for both electronic commerce and public policy as it pertains to the digital divide. They are particularly useful for marketing departments, especially in the information and communication industry. Discussions of Web user loyalty and Web visiting opportunities as conducted in this dissertation are relevant to business models in use in business-to-consumer electronic commerce, especially for Internet companies that rely on advertising income generated from serving banner advertisements and companies that need to maintain a high degree of customer loyalty. The results also provide the factual foundation for key policy initiatives to promote access to the Internet for all groups of people. Policy makers need data on Internet usage in order to measure the size of a possible digital divide and ensure that everybody belonging to the present and the next generation - and not a subgroup of people only - has access to the Internet. In summary, this study advances the empirical foundation for understanding individual Web use. The findings of this dissertation will be useful to stakeholders in the new Information Age, in particular marketing departments and policy makers.

This dissertation builds a case for what dignity is, why it is important, and how and when organizations can attend to dignity. The first paper investigates the what and why of dignity by examining and analyzing the content of current understandings in the management literature to achieve a robust conceptualization. The second paper investigates the how of dignity by explicating through a longitudinal, qualitative, field study how an organization plans and designs physical space intended to foster feelings of wholeness, dignity, and wellbeing. The third paper reviews the when of dignity by illustrating with a single case study how narrative stories support the development of relational coordination across organizational and international borders. In this particular case, the stories are used to promote the organization’s mission, which is the promotion of dignity. Contributions of this body of work include a deeper understanding of: the processes for affirming dignity and dignity’s cultural specifications; a delineation of positive outcomes and challenges to individuals and organizations in the act of promoting dignity; the definition and a model of a design practice that may be used to achieve humanistic design (i.e. design that promotes human dignity); and, propositions for future deductive theory testing research regarding the use of stories as a form of communication that contributes to the quality of relational coordination, particularly when dignity is the shared aim of these relationships. The contribution to management practice functions to shrink a knowing–doing gap by offering leaders and stakeholders a way to effectively cope with today’s wider social, political, and environmental issues through the humanistic management practice of placing people as the front and center purpose of business. Three qualitative methods were used including a bibliographic literature review, a longitudinal, qualitative, field study, and a case study.

Abstract:
Charles I of Anjou restored the counties according to the Norman system; his successors im- proved them and let them become a space of local power inside the the Royal districts, the gi- ustizierati. At the same time some aristocratic families consolidated themselves, like the Ruffo of Calabria, lords of Sinopoli, who obtained the comital title in 1334. The paper analyses two important records: the cartulario 1 and the cartulario 17, integrating them with all the availa- ble documents. The cartulario 17 contains platea dating from 1335, which includes one or two older texts written in Greek and translated into Latin. It is at the same time an inventory and a municipal statute. The cartulario 17 is the main source for studying the creation, composition and ruling of the county of Sinopoli, not to mention the various world of the subjects to the lords, according to their status (vassallus) or their possessions as freemen (burgenses). We have also suffeudatarii and other people depending on the baron, like the raccomandati.

Abstract:

Abstract:
While symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions attract the most attention from psychiatrists; sleep disturbances, although common in schizophrenia, are often overlooked or undertreated. It is estimated that 30% up to 80% of patients with schizophrenia suffer from insomnia, 15% from obstructive sleep apnea, 21% from restless leg syndrome, and 17% from a sleep-related eating disorder. Sleep disturbances have negative impact on patients’ physical health and quality of life and may aggravate neuropsychiatric symptoms in schizophrenia. This chapter serves as a concise guide for psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to understand the assessment and management of sleep disturbances in schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders. Future research is needed to elucidate the genetic and longitudinal relationship between comorbid sleep disorders and schizophrenia, to evaluate the impact of comorbid sleep disorders and their treatment on clinical and functional outcomes, and to identify novel sleep therapies for patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract:
Alkene metathesis has been used to prepare more and more challenging natural products. The first and second generation Grubbs catalysts 1 and 2 and the Hoveyda catalyst 3 are the most widely used. Daesung Lee of the University of Illinois at Chicago designed (Organic Lett. 2008, 10, 257) a clever chain-walking cross metathesis, combining 4 and 5 to make 6. The diyne 3 was carried on (3R, 9R, 10R )-Panaxytriol 7. Tatsushi Imahori and Hiroki Takahata of Tohoku Pharmaceutical University found (Tetrahedron Lett. 2008, 49, 265) that of the several derivatives investigated, the unprotected alcohol 8 cyclized most efficiently. Selective cleavage of the monosubstituted alkene followed by hydroboration delivered the alkaloid Isofagomine 10. Brian M. Stoltz of Caltech established (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008 , 130 , 810) the absolute configuration of the halogenated chamigrene Elatol 14 using the enantioselective enolate allylation that he had previously devised. A key feature of this synthesis was the stereocontrolled preparation of the cis bromohydrin. Marc L. Snapper of Boston College opened (J. Org. Chem. 2008, 73, 3754) the strained cyclobutene 15 with ethylene to give the diene 16. Remarkably, cross metathesis with 17 delivered 18 with high regioselectivity, setting the stage for the preparation of the 5-F2t - Isoprostane 19. Derrick L. J. Clive of the University of Alberta assembled (J. Org. Chem. 2008, 73, 3078) Ottelione B 26 from the enantiomerically-pure aldehyde 20. Conjugate addition of the Grignard reagent 21 derived from chloroprene gave the kinetic product 22, that was equilibrated to the more stable 23. Addition of vinyl Grignard followed by selective ring-closing metathesis then led to 26.

Chen-Guo Feng of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry prepared (Chem. Commun. 2015, 51, 8773) the cyclobutane 6 by enantioselective conjugate addition of 5 to the unsaturated ester 4. Martin Kotora of Charles University showed (Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2015, 2868) that the zirconacycle from the eneyne 7 reacted with the aldehyde 8 to give, after iodination, the alcohol 9. Xiaoming Feng of Sichuan University used (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2015, 54, 1608) a scandium catalyst to effect the intramolecular Roskamp cyclization of 10 to 11. Celia Dominguez of CHDI observed (Org. Lett. 2015, 17, 1401) that the double alkylation of the ester 12 with the dibromide 13 proceeded with high diastereoselectivity, to give 14. Hirokazu Tsukamoto of Tohoku University cyclized (Chem. Commun. 2015, 51, 8027) 15 to 16 in high ee. Daniel J. Weix of the University of Rochester found (J. Am. Chem. Bower of the University of Bristol optimized (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2015, 137, 463) conditions for the highly diastereoselective Rh-mediated cyclocarbonylation of 20 to 21. Margaret A. Brimble of the University of Auckland initiated (J. Org. Chem. 2015, 80, 2231) the construction of the cyclohexenone 24 by the diastereoselective addition of 23 to the unsaturated ester 22. Olivier Baslé and Marc Maduit of ENSC Rennes devised (Chem. Eur. J. 2015, 21, 993) conditions for the preparation of 26 by enantioselective conjugate addition to the cyclohexenone 25. Yoshito Kishi of Harvard University demonstrated (Tetrahedron Lett. 2015, 56, 3220) that the carbenoid generated from the epoxide 27 cyclized to 28 with high diastereoselectivity. Wenjun Tang, also of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, developed (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2015, 54, 3033) a Pd catalyst for the diastereoselective (because it is enantioselective) cyclization of 29 to 30.

Abstract:
Stephen G. DiMagno of the University of Nebraska developed (Chem. Eur. J. 2015, 21, 6394) a protocol for the clean monoiodination of 1 to 2. The bromomethylation (or chloromethylation, with HCl) of a benzene derivative is straightforward with formaldehyde and HBr. Naofumi Tsukada of Shizuoka University designed (Organometallics 2015, 34, 1191) a Cu catalyst that mediated the coupling of an alkyne with the benzyl bromide so produced, effecting net propargylation of 3 with 4 to give 5. Triazenes such as 7, versatile intermediates for organic synthesis, are usually prepared by diazotization of the corresponding aniline. Kay Severin of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne established (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2015, 54, 302) an alternative route from the aryl Grignard reagent 6. Ping Lu and Yanguang Wang of Zhejiang University showed (Chem. Commun. 2015, 51, 2840) that dimethylformamide could serve as the carbon source for the conversion of 8 to the nitrile 9. Junha Jeon of the University of Texas at Arlington effected (J. Org. Chem. 2015, 80, 4661; Chem. Commun. 2015, 51, 3778) the reductive ortho silylation of 10 to give 11. Vladimir Gevorgyan of the University of Illinois at Chicago found (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2015, 54, 2255) that the phenol derivative 12 could be ortho carboxylated, leading to 13. Lutz Ackermann of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, starting (Chem. Eur. J. 2015, 21, 8812) with the designed amide 14, effected ortho metalation followed by coupling, to give the methylated product 15. Tetsuya Satoh and Masahiro Miura of Osaka University used (Org. Lett. 2015, 17, 704) the dithiane of 16 to direct ortho metalation. Coupling with acrylate followed by reductive desulfurization led to the ester 17. Jin-Quan Yu of Scripps/La Jolla designed (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2015, 54, 888) the phenylacetamide 18 to direct selective meta metalation, leading to the unsaturated aldehyde 19. In an extension of the Catellani protocol, Guangbin Dong of the University of Texas prepared (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2015, 137, 5887) the biphenyl 21 by net meta metalation of the benzylamine 20. Several methods for the de novo assembly of benzene derivatives have recently been put forward. Rajeev S. Menon of the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology condensed (Org. Lett. 2015, 17, 1449) the unsaturated aldehyde 22 with the sulfonyl ester 23 to give 24.

Abstract:
Discussion L’étude poursuit l’inclusion de patients.

Abstract:
The LED issues, associated with high cost, high junction temperature, low luminous efficiency, and low reliability, have to be solved before gaining more market penetration. With special features of low-junction-temperature and low-cost design, COP (Chip-on-Plate) LED package modules with and without phosphors are evaluated in terms of their thermal resistance and reliability under wet high temperature operation life (WHTOL) test. The WHTOL test is with the condition of 85°C/85% RH and 350mA of forward current for 1008 hrs, specified in JESD22 Method A101-B. First of all, the thermal behaviors of the COP package module are investigated by experimental measurement, and a computational fluid dynamics approach. The reliability under WHTOL test is then carried out. The results show that all COP package modules with phosphors in the silicone encapsulant failed after 309 hrs at WHTOL test, but all those without phosphors passed for 1008 hrs. The failure sites are located at aluminum wire debonding to the chip and copper pads of the substrate. However, the aluminum wire bonding of the COP package modules are replaced to gold wire bonding, then all COP package modules with and without phosphors pass for 1008 hrs. For the passing package modules, their thermal resistances are found to increase more than two fold after 1008 hrs of the WHTOL test from 41°C/W to 87.1°C/W. This is due to the thermal conductivity decreasing in the die attach and thermal grease and the contact resistance increasing after the moisture absorption. Moreover, for the thermal behavior of the COP package modules under the natural and forced convections in the WHTOL test, the results show that there exists the difference of 17°C/W in the junction-to-air thermal resistances, which might result in different reliability data. In addition, it is also indicated that the junction-to-air thermal resistances are very sensitive to the flow conditions of the chamber, but not for junction-to-aluminum substrate and junction-to-heat sink thermal resistances. Therefore, the standard test of the WHTOL should specify flow conditions in the test chamber.

Abstract:
This paper presents an attempt to use betelnut fibres as reinforcement for tribo-polyester composites in bearing applications. The composite was fabricated using the hand lay-up technique, and contains 15 layers of randomly distributed chopped fibres and 17 layers of polyester. The adhesive wear and frictional behavior of the composites were studied against a polished stainless steel counterface using block-on-disc (BOD) machine at different applied loads (5–30N) and sliding distance (0–7km). In addition to that, the orientation of the fibre layers with respect to the sliding direction of the counterface was considered, i.e. parallel (P-O), anti-parallel (AP-O) and normal (N-O). Studies on worn surfaces, using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and roughness profiles of the composite and counterface assisted to explain the results. As a result of this work, it was found that applied load has less effect on the specific wear rate and friction coefficient of the composite especially in P-O and AP-O. Meanwhile, in both orientations (P-O and AP-O), the steady state of specific wear rate was reached after 5 km sliding distance. On the other hand, the composite behaved differently in N-O, where the wear and friction increased when the load and sliding distance increased. This was due to the poor support of the fibres in that orientation, where delamination, pull out and breakage in the fibres were observed. In P-O and AP-O, the wear mechanism was predominated by plastic deformation and micro-cracks.
