Abstract:

LABURPENA: Nafarroako udal-idazkarien araubide juridikoaren arazoa aztertzen da. Funtsean hornikuntza eta hautapena, aurretiazko foru-gaikuntza lortuta. Azken hogeita hamabost urteetan oztopo handia izan da udalak derrigorrez taldekatu nahia, orain arte ezinezkoa. Horrekin, udal-idazkaritzaren zerbitzuak ere taldekatu egingo lirateke. Gaur egon 272 udalerri eta 348 kontzeju daude Nafarroan, bai eta 67 mankomunitate eta elkarte tradizional ere, zerbitzu publikoak emateko. Idazkarien araubide juridikoa antolatzeko onartutako bata bestearen ondorengo Foru Legeek arazoak sortu dituzte: bitarteko lan-kontratu asko metatu dira azken hiru hamarkadetan, gatazka ugari judizializatu dira, eta inkonstituzionaltzat jo dira 11/2004 Foru Legeko lehen xedapen gehigarriaren bi tarteki ere. ABSTRACT: The problems around the legal regime of municipal legal secretaries in Navarra are analyzed. Basically the problem related to the provision and selection by means of the achivement of a previous foral authorization. And all of it impeded for the last thirty five years by the will of proceeding to a mandatory assemblage of municipalities —so far impossible— that brings the assemblage of the services provided by the municipal legal secretary. To date there exist 272 municipalities and 348 councils, besides 67 grouping of municipalities and traditional groupings for the provision of public services. The consecutive Foral Acts enacted to arrange the legal regime of legal secretaries have been problematic because there is a high rate of temporary staff during last three decades and by a ton of conflicts which were judicialized even with the inconstitutionality of two subsections of the first additional provision of the Foral Act 11/2004.

Abstract:
Full text
Abstract:
The precise date of the Council of Serdica is so important because it is essential for establishing the chronology of numerous events in fourth-century Christianity, and thus for reconstructing its overall history and developments. Unfortunately, this date has been under debate for nearly two centuries. Traditionally, the council was dated to 347 C.E., but discoveries in the 18th and 19th centuries led scholars to favor first 344 and then 343. In the early 20th century, Eduard Schwartz inaugurated a new stage in the debate when he argued for 342. In his wake, most French, Italian, and English-speaking scholars argued for 343, whereas most German-speaking scholars followed Schwartz's authority and endorsed 342. In 1974, Marcel Richard advanced a novel argument in favor in 342 that appeared to cement this date for its advocates. Recently, however, 343 appears to be the preferred date even in German scholarship. After more than a century of debate, it seems, a consensus has been reached. This essay offers the most comprehensive reassessment of this debate to date to see if it really should be considered concluded. It re-examines all the evidence and all the arguments made in support of one date or another, in particular those of Schwartz and Richard, and argues that the case for the Council of Serdica's having been held in the autumn of 343 should be considered conclusive; thus, the lengthy debate can rightly be closed.

Full text
Abstract:
AbstractCarcass quality was evaluated in 35 male and 41 female lambs, 38 expressing the callipyge phenotype (Cg) and 38 controls expressing the normal phenotype (N). Lambs were from Romanov and Suffolk × Romanov ewes mated to two rams heterozygous for the callipyge locus and slaughtered at approximately 44 kg live weight. The Cg lambs reached slaughter weight at 163 days of age, 13 days younger, and had a dressing proportion 0·524 , 0·029 points higher. Also they had more leg (341 v. 308 g/kg), less loin (315 v. 328 g/kg) and less shoulder (340 v. 360 g/kg) than the N lambs. The leg, loin and shoulder wholesale cuts and half the carcass of Cg lambs had 81, 113, 77, and 92 g/kg more lean and 52, 98, 59, and 72 g/kg less fat than N lambs, respectively. The Cg lambs also had larger loin-eye area (18·5 v.13·1 cm2), less backfat at the C (4·1 v. 6·1 mm) and at the GR locations (11·0 v. 15·2 mm) and less internal fat (202 v. 339 g) than the N lambs. Dissection of the 12th rib indicated that Cg lambs had more muscle (574 v. 462 g/kg), less fat (276 v. 358 g/kg) (both P < 0·001) and similar (V > 0·05) bone (155 v. 265 g/kg) to N lambs. Colour of the longissimus muscle was significantly paler in Cg lambs. Intramuscular fat and dry matter of longissimus muscle were significantly lower (49 v. 120 and 247 v. 253 g/kg) in Cg than in N lambs. Cg lambs were significantly different (P < 0·05) from N lambs for all traits studied except age at slaughter, tissues at the GR location, proportion of bone in the 12th rib and the L* colour of the longissimus muscle. Breed type effect was significant only for age at slaughter, whereas the effect of sex was significant for all traits except for proportion of lean in the leg, b* colour and intramuscular fat content of the longissimus muscle. No interactions were significant except phenotype × breed type on fat thickness over the longissimus muscle. Post-mortem ageing of the longissimus muscle for 9 or 15 days caused a significant reduction in muscle toughness in Cg lambs compared with those aged for 3 days (113 v. 98 Newtons) but the muscle was still tougher than that from N lambs (with a shear force of 64 and 51 Newtons at 3 and 9 or 15 days post mortem). The principle component analysis including carcass conformation and composition traits as well as meat quality traits was indicative of a distinctly different carcass ofCg compared with N lambs. The first two principal components explained 0·70 of the total variation.

Abstract:
Proximal fibular stress fractures are rare injuries that usually result from jumping and running activities of military recruits and athletes. This article describes a female university athlete with proximal lateral leg pain diagnosed by means of a triphase bone scan as proximal fibular stress fracture and proximal to middle one-third tibial stress fracture. This case highlights the need to examine not only the sport but also the athlete’s training habits to identify possible factors contributing to the injury. Body type, biomechanics, and gender are also possible etiologic factors. (J Am Podiatr Med Assoc 93(4): 340-343, 2003)

Abstract:
The present study was conducted to evaluate the physiological and biochemical changes in some thermotolerant and thermosensitive chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) genotypes. Fourteen chilli genotypes (SL 461, PP 404, DL 161, MS 341, VR 521, PB 405, PS 403, SD 463, FL 201, AC 102, S 343, SL 462 and SL 464 along with sensitive check [Royal Wonder of bell pepper] were evaluated for heat tolerance. The observations on morpho-physiological and biochemical parameters were recorded at 45, 65, 85 and 105 days after transplanting (DAT) (high temperature period). On the basis of our studies, genotypes S 343, AC 102 and FL 201 were found to be relatively thermotolerant. However, high temperature markedly decreased the photosynthetic activity of chilli plants by decreasing the photosynthetic pigments in leaf chloroplasts of all the genotypes. The levels of ascorbic acid, total soluble sugars and total phenols increased in the leaves of all the genotypes with the maturity of the crop. Electrolyte leakage and proline content also increased with rise in temperature. Genotypes AC 102 and S 343 were able to accumulate the maximum ascorbic acid, proline, total soluble sugars and total phenols under heat stress conditions. Decrease in fruit set percent led to reduction in the total yield per plant. Maximum yield was observed in genotype S 343 followed by FL 201.

Abstract:
AbstractAn Hα Survey of the Milky Way is being led at La Silla with a small telescope equipped with a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer and IPCS. This Survey gives detailed Hα maps with a 9” spatial resolution and radial velocity maps with a 5km/s resolution. About 200 fields (38’×38’) have been already observed along the galactic plane. They furnish mosaics ranging from galactic longitude 234° to 350°. Combined with distances of exciting stars and radio data our kinematic data of the ionized gas enable to draw precisely the spiral arms of our Galaxy. Examples of the results obtained are given for galactic longitudes 234°, 283°, 290°, 298°, 328° and 338°.

Abstract:
Abstract Van Dover, C. L. 2011. Mining seafloor massive sulphides and biodiversity: what is at risk? – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 68: 341–348. Scientific exploration of the deep sea in the late 1970s led to the discovery of seafloor massive sulphides at hydrothermal vents. More recently, sulphide deposits containing high grades of ore have been discovered in the southwest Pacific. In addition to metal-rich ores, hydrothermal vents host ecosystems based on microbial chemoautotrophic primary production, with endemic invertebrate species adapted in special ways to the vent environment. Although there has been considerable effort to study the biology and ecology of vent systems in the decades since these systems were first discovered, there has been limited attention paid to conservation issues. Three priority recommendations for conservation science at hydrothermal vent settings are identified here: (i) determine the natural conservation units for key species with differing life histories; (ii) identify a set of first principles for the design of preservation reference areas and conservation areas; (iii) develop and test methods for effective mitigation and restoration to enhance the recovery of biodiversity in sulphide systems that may be subject to open-cut mining.

Abstract:
7506 Background: Lenalidomide (Len) is a novel, orally administered, immunomodulatory drug (IMiD) that has single-agent activity against multiple myeloma (MM) and additive effects when combined with dexamethasone (Dex). At the interim analysis of MM-009/010, lenalidomide/dexamethasone achieved a significant benefit over dexamethasone, providing a longer median time to progression (TTP), higher response rates, and higher CR rates. Aim: This subgroup analysis of MM-009/010 was performed to evaluate thrombosis in patients receiving Len/Dex vs Dex. Thrombotic events included the following adverse event terms: thrombosis, deep venous thrombosis, thromboembolism, and pulmonary embolism. Methods: Patients (pts) with relapsed or refractory MM were randomized to either receive oral Len (25 mg daily for 3 weeks every 4 weeks) plus Dex (40 mg on Days 1–4, 9–12, 17–20 every 4 weeks for 4 months, then 40 mg on Days 1–4 every cycle thereafter) or placebo plus Dex. Results: Thrombotic events were reported in 39 (11.3%) of 346 pts treated with Len/Dex compared to 13 (3.8%) of 346 pts treated with Dex alone (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis identified Len/Dex treatment and erythropoietic treatment to be independently correlated with thrombosis (Table). Older age, lower plasma cell percentage in marrow, and better ECOG performance status had a weaker association with thrombosis. Thrombosis occurred more frequently among pts with prior history of thrombosis, although that was not a significant predictor in the multivariate anlaysis. None of 23 pts who used aspirin or salicylate during the first month of treatment developed thrombosis and all events occurred in pts with rising M-paraprotein levels at baseline. Conclusions: The current study findings suggest that the administration of erythropoietic agents should be minimized in MM pts receiving Len/Dex. Prophylactic antithrombotic therapy should also be considered. [Table: see text] [Table: see text]
