Abstract:
The type and Australian species of the liagoraceous genera Liagora and Ganonema (Rhodophyta: Nemaliales) are described. Twenty-one species are included, comprising 15 of Liagora and six of Ganonema. Five new species, Liagora walkerae, L. kraftii, L. izziae, L. delicatula and Ganonema borowitzkae are described. The new combinations Ganonema pinnatum (Harv.) Huisman, Ganonema samaense (Tseng) Huisman, Ganonema clavatum (Yamada) Huisman and Ganonema megagynum (Børgesen) Huisman are proposed. Liagora cladonioides Børgesen is shown to be a member of the genus Stenopeltis Itono & Yoshizaki. A ke

Introduction: Phytocompounds are a powerful chemical group obtained from natural resources that exhibit a range of biological activities. Objective: This study explored the phytocompounds constituents of two species of Rhodophyta, Liagora divaricata and Trematocarpus flabellatus in order to give a preliminary view of qualitative diversity of potentially bioactive compounds. Methods: Approximately 200g of each species were hand-picked at in Chongoene, Mozambique, during a low spring tide. Voucher specimens were identified and stored at the LMU herbarium in the Department of Biological Science,

Abstract:
Canary Islands is a North Atlantic Ocean archipelago in the Macaronesian region that stand out for its great algae diversity and its climatic conditions. However, even in this low industrialised area, human activities tend to increase the marine pollution. Asparagopsis spp. and Liagora spp. algae are red algae frequent in the Canary Islands’ coasts. Therefore, they could be used as bio-indicators of marine pollution for trace elements. A total of 30 samples of both algae’s species from Tenerife’s southern coast, specifically in Playa Grande, Porís de Abona, in Arico (Tenerife, Spain) were used

Extracts of four species of seaweeds, Ulva lactuca L. (green), Liagora farinosa Lamouroux (red), Padina pavonia L. and Turbinaria ornata Turn (brown), were screened for their antimicrobial, and antimalarial activities, and binding affinity for human opioid receptors. Phytochemical analysis led to the isolation and identification of 10 constituents: fucosterol, stearic acid, palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, myristic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, β-sitosterol, glycerol-1-olyl-3-palmotyl-2-galactoside, and glycerol-1,3-diolyl, The last two compounds displayed strong binding affinity to
