Abstract:
Libraries play the role of the school's lifeblood by providing educational resources that teachers and educators rely on. The current study aims to identify the forms of misuse to which school libraries are exposed, and to identify the policies of the libraries under study in dealing with various forms of misuse. The problem of the current research lies in highlighting the importance of these libraries, and the negative impact that their absence has on the abilities and skills of students in secondary schools. This is due to the misuse of these skills, and the current study revolves around girls’ secondary school students in the city of Al-Bayda, and librarians in these schools, in the period 2021/2022 AD.

Abstract:
In order for school libraries to contribute sufficiently to better information skills development and the creation of a culture of lifelong learning among students, they require backing through well-articulated policies both at national and individual school level. This article reports on a study that investigated the prevailing status of school libraries in public secondary schools in Nairobi County, Kenya. Using a survey research design, with a response rate of 68 per cent for school principals and 66 per cent for school librarians, the study established that the majority of the schools had school libraries but these were as a result of individual schools’ efforts and not a nationwide government policy. Moreover, the school libraries lacked policies; had not embraced contemporary trends in technology; and lacked financial support. The study concluded that school libraries in Nairobi County were inadequately resourced and supported and recommended that the government of Kenya should develop national policies to entrench and support school libraries in the education system.

Abstract:
This article reports on a study that investigated the issues and challenges in the provision of school libraries in secondary schools in Katlehong, Gauteng province, South Africa. A qualitative research method was used to conduct the study among 14 secondary schools in Katlehong. The target population included 14 teacher-librarians, 14 principals and one Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) official, who were interviewed. Additionally, 102 teachers participated in focus group discussions (FGDs). Convenience sampling was used to select the teachers, while purposive sampling was used to select all the other participants in the study. The study revealed that teachers are not using school libraries in Katlehong because they are unable to provide relevant information services due to a lack of space; out-dated and inadequate information collections; uncatalogued and poorly organised books; inaccessible opening hours; and a lack of funds and networked computers. Only 29 per cent of the schools had qualified teacher-librarians in their employ, while the 71 per cent unqualified ‘teacher-librarians’ indicated that they were managing the school libraries without the professional skills required to guide both teachers and learners in the use of library resources. The teacher-librarians were also burdened with additional teaching loads, which negatively affected the opening hours of the libraries. It was recommended, firstly, that a specific library period be allocated to each class to allow for library orientation; secondly, that sufficient funding be allocated to each school library to enable it to function optimally; and, thirdly, that library hours be regulated and qualified library staff be employed.

Abstract:
American Librarian Ralph Munn's historic tour of Australian libraries in 1934 is well documented. Along with Ernest Pitt, Chief Librarian of the State Library of Victoria, he spent nearly ten weeks travelling from Sydney and back again, visiting libraries in all the state capitals and many regional towns throughout the country. Munn's trip was funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, which was then, through its Dominions fund, turning attention to philanthropic opportunities in the Antipodes. The resulting report, Australian Libraries: A Survey of Conditions and Suggestions for their Improvement (commonly referred to as the Munn–Pitt Report) is often credited with initiating the public library movement in Australia.

Abstract:
Goal/thesis – to overview the development of school libraries in Vietnam, thereby drawing out the advantages, disadvantages, and challenges they face. Methodology – critical literature review and content analysis of source materials. Findings – revealed there are the disadvantages of school libraries in Vietnam including shortcomings with the lack of materials, poor infrastructure, the inefficient capacity of the school librarian, and the limited budget. The reasons for these problems are due to the misperception of administrators, policymakers, and society regarding the libraries’ role in the educational activities of schools; the library operating hours are not optimal; the low percentage of students reading books and newspapers (especially printed documents); the small library space; oftentimes the capacity of the librarians is poor, and, most of all, there is not enough budget allocated to libraries. Conclusions – recommendations are made toward improving school libraries in Vietnam.

Abstract:
Purpose The aim of this paper is to examine the versatility of the MLIS degree through the lens of special libraries in terms of education, core competencies and benefits. Special libraries show the value of the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree in preparing professionals to work across institutional boundaries in non-library and non-educational organizations and bring their services to the populace in sometimes unexpected places. Design/methodology/approach The authors first conducted a literature review of special librarians and their skillsets, as well as how to properly define “special library”. They then examined different MLIS programs geared toward special libraries and how library schools prepare special librarians to benefit their organizations. Findings The conclusion drawn is that possession of an MLIS degree lends a special librarian more credence in the execution of their duties because they have been educated in how to best benefit their institution. While additional subject expertise is an advantage to the special librarian, the skills learned in MLIS degree programs provide an essential foundation. Originality/value This is a collaborative view that brings together outside research regarding various types of special libraries and the librarians that work in them in an effort to illustrate the value of the MLIS degree in an original way.

Abstract:
Over the past few decades, partnerships and programming between secondary school and post-secondary librarians and libraries have been widely discussed in library literature. These collaborations often exist to help high school students develop information literacy (IL) skills and to provide a smoother transition to university-level research. This paper examines the current high school outreach activities at Ontario university libraries that aim to bridge the gap between high school and post-secondary education.
The purpose of this research, conducted through online surveys and interviews with academic librarians in the province, is to provide a snapshot of high school outreach activities and to highlight the benefits and challenges of such programming. It also examines why some libraries no longer offer such activities or programs. This analysis of the variety of outreach activities aims to generate discussion and ideas that academic libraries can use to connect with high school libraries.

Abstract:
This study has the purpose of explaining the trend of library development in Indonesia from 2017-2021, studying the significance, and analysing the effects on the development of literacy skills in schools. This study was designed as a quantitative descriptive, comparison, and correlational analysis. The results of this study indicate that the trend of Library Growth in Indonesia continuously increased except in 2018 due to a regrouping policy for primary schools. Secondly, the library growth in Indonesia has shown a significant difference each year in public and private schools. Although in 2018, there was no significant difference in terms of the average percentage of library growth for schools in both public and private environments, what happened in 2019 and 2020 showed different things. Both public and private school libraries have demonstrated significant differences in the average percentage growth of libraries to schools in 2019 and 2020. Even in 2021, the average accumulation percentage of growth in the number of libraries in public schools is already above 90%, while in private schools, it is still below 90%. Lastly, a significant moderate positive relationship between the national average libraries to school ratio and Alibaca Index/Reading Literacy Score means that a library's presence in schools has moderately influenced students' literacy skills.

Abstract:
This study examines the collection development policies and procedures of the independent Black schools that belong to the Council of Independent Black Institutions. The primary focus is on, 1) the types of sources used to select and acquire library materials pertaining to the Black experience, and 2) the extent to which the collections of the schools focus on materials documenting Black life and culture. Major findings include, that in the Black independent schools surveyed, 1) Black book stores are the major source of library materials concerning Black life and culture, and 2) in terms of abundance, materials concerning Black people are the most important part of the library collections. This report suggests the need for further research to explore dimensions of resource development in Black schools beyond the scope of the present investigation.

Abstract:
Thesis (M.Inf.) --University of Limpopo, 2011<br>The key aim of the study was to investigate whether school libraries in the rural schools of Nkangala region, Mpumalanga do implement budgeting policies due to funding constraints and poor service delivery. The library-computer centre can enhance teaching and learning. Some 188 school libraries were selected to explore their budgeting procedures and only 81 responded. The survey data collection method was used through a self-administered questionnaire which was distributed to teacher-librarians. The results of the study were analyzed according to frequencies and graphically displayed in table form. The results of the study show that almost all rural school libraries in the area have neither budgeting policies nor adequate budget to spend for effective service delivery. This shows that not only do school libraries experience budgetary constraints, but there might be other factors contributing to their poor library service delivery. It is important to empower school principals, SGBs and top managers in library budgeting procedures and for all to work cooperatively to achieve the expected educational goals.

Abstract:
With the advent of the 21st century, technological innovations are transforming the face of education and the school library media center. One of these significant developments is the ability to communicate through the Internet. The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of Texas public school library media specialists who are active Internet users about their utilization of the Internet, and how their efforts in implementing and supervising Internet access in their school library media centers impact the Texas public schools that they serve. A survey instrument of Likert items was developed that queried these public school library media specialists for their perceptions of Internet use in their schools. MANOVA was the chosen statistical measure for this study. An initial electronic mail-out to 1,232 Texas public school library media specialists (K-12) with Internet addresses were contacted to participate in this study. After a time frame of one month, 196 Texas school library media specialists e-mailed the researcher, confirming their willingness to be a survey participant. All respondents to this e-mail request participated in this study, and a second U.S. mail-out was sent containing the actual survey instrument. The researcher found that the use of the Internet by school library media specialists in Texas did not increase global collegiality from the viewpoint of the survey respondents. Survey respondents felt that an Internet acceptable use policy did not ensure student access to the Internet in Texas public school library media centers. The study examined the relationship between acceptable use policies and Internet censorship, and the researcher found no connection between these two elements from the perspective of the school library media specialist. The study found that school library media specialists believe that their training did improve their students' library research skills. Furthermore, the survey respondents believed that their Internet training improved student learning. Finally, the study found no connection between school size, based on the Texas Education Agency's school classification system, and student access to the Internet.

Abstract:
Recent legislation in Sweden mandates that all students beprovided access to a school library. In addition, schools areexpected to help students become independent and life-longlearners. Various national organizations stress theimportance of a school library in this process; however, reportedly independent schools use public libraries and theInternet for information activities instead. This studyexplores: 1) how independent schools in Sweden can meetboth government requirements to provide library accessand the information literacy demands of their students, and2) the function of digital libraries in this context. After acomparison of previous research, a qualitative method waschosen based on socio-cultural theoretical assumptions.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with aprincipal, a teacher, and a focus group of students from twoindependent schools. Through a process of open coding, important themes emerged concerning how libraries andinformation literacy are conceptualized. There is a strongtendency to see libraries in terms of a physical function(books on shelves) over social activities (e.g., integrationwith teachers, development of information literacies, collection management). Students rely first and foremoston Google during the information seeking process, but alsoconsult each other for help. There are also signs thatstudents are discouraged from asking their teachers for helpduring the information seeking process. The findingsindicate that current educator attitudes may hinder thedevelopment of digital school libraries.<br>Program: Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap, Digitala bibliotek och informationstjänster

Paton-Ash, Margaret Sanderson. "Issues and challenges facing school libraries: a case study of selected primary schools in Gauteng Province, South Africa." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1003543.

Full text
Abstract:
Fewer than 8% of schools in South Africa have functioning libraries. There is no national policy for school libraries which compels School Governing Bodies and principals to have a library in their schools. This qualitative study, based on grounded theory, investigated ten primary schools in Gauteng that had libraries, or were in the process of setting up a library with the intention of providing a rich description of the issues and challenges facing these schools. The schools were chosen on the basis of location (Soweto and Johannesburg), and the school fees that were paid in a continuum from low/no fee paying schools to the fee paying ex Model-C schools. The resourcing of the school library, the operation of the school library and the role of the library were examined. The findings highlight the lack of a national policy, of school library posts, the theft of computers as a result of the lack of security, as well as the lack of understanding by teachers of the role the library in teaching and learning. Furthermore, there appears to be a disjuncture between the trends evident in the international literature on school libraries and what is actually happening in the primary school libraries in my study. Most significantly low/no fee paying schools with libraries were the exception and those that did have libraries were as a result of the enthusiasm and efforts of one or two individuals with the backing of the principal. Ex-Model C schools had the advantage in terms of the provision and staffing of school libraries as they had the funds to support them and, in some cases, a school librarian, provided that the principal supported the idea of a school library. In all the schools, the belief in the importance of the library regarding reading and literacy was the main motivating factor in establishing or maintaining the school library. A growing public awareness of the value of school libraries was an encouraging trend that emerged from my study.

Olivier, Charleine. "School libraries in former model c high schools – the case of the Framesby high school media centre." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/19795.

Full text
Abstract:
The study explored the changing role of libraries/media centres at ex-Model C (now Section 21) high schools in the Nelson Mandela Metropole (NMM), focussing on a case study of the Framesby High School (FHS) media centre in Port Elizabeth. Model C schools originated in the 1990s, just before the transition to democratic rule in 1994, when White, or House of Assembly schools were given a choice of three school governing models, namely, fully-private Model A schools, Model B state schools and semi-private Model C schools. Model C schools would receive state subsidies of about 50%, with the balance raised through school fees. A major research purpose was to present a comprehensive description of the current ex- Model C school library context and how these influenced the service orientation and intended core functions of school librarians, such as teaching information literacy, providing academic support and promoting general literacy and reading. The FHS media centre service was further described with an aim of providing functional library/media centre management guidelines, applicable to high school libraries/media centres in similar ex-Model C school situations, or any libraries that could find such guidelines useful. This qualitative FHS media centre case study was based on the FHS media centre manager’s personal observation as participative action researcher and further supported by literature, an interview and questionnaire feedback from FHS educators and respondents from selected NMM ex-Model C high school libraries. By comparing historical and existing national and provincial school library issues, conclusions were reached regarding macro- and micro-school library contexts, for example, the effect of having no national policy, the support roles of school management and governing bodies, the influence of digital media and the position of school librarians. School librarian concerns, including their roles, qualifications, service conditions and professional status, especially within Section 21 schools, were considered with the high school library and librarian’s contribution towards curriculum outcomes and life-long learning. With specific reference to ex-Model C schools, the absence of a library policy also resulted in diverse levels of school management and school governing body recognition of the school library/media centre. This impacted on the school librarian’s role in curriculum support and information literacy teaching as well as the availability of funds, infrastructure and resources. It is recommended that government should address the supply of library facilities, services and posts for school librarians and assistants. Lack of governmental action is maintaining the growing divide between ex-Model C schools and disadvantaged schools, while the lack of school library services also has a negative influence on literacy and pass rates, especially in poorer regions, like the Eastern Cape. In the light of the vast difference between the results of ex-Model C schools and other schools in the Eastern Cape, these schools and their library services could provide a benchmark towards improving educational contexts in the province.

Abstract:
The purpose of this Master thesis is to examine whether there is a connection between distance to the schoollibrary and the extent to which teachers are using it as an integral part of their teaching. The study aims to answerif the physical distance to the school library is affecting teachers' ways of working with the library, if it affects thecollaboration between teachers and librarians and finally if teachers that are using a school library outside theschool premises are doing so less as an integral part of their teaching compared to teachers that have access to aschool library within the schools premises. The study is based on qualitative interviews with six teachers in the intermediate stage of the nine-yearcompulsory school, of which three have access to a school library within the school premises and three haveaccess to a school library outside the school premises. The two groups of teachers are compared in order to findout if there is a connection between distance to the school library and the usage of it. Loertscher's school librarymedia program and teacher taxonomy have been used as a theoretical framework. The study shows that the teachers who use a school library within the school premises have a bettercollaboration with the librarians than the ones who use a school library outside the school premises. The studyalso show that theese libraries are an integral part of the teaching to a higher degree. However, it is not shownbeyond doubt that the physical distance to the library is the determining factor for the teacher's results. Otherfactors, such as the fact that the school libraries outside the school premises at the same time are functioning aspublic libraries, may also have influenced the result. This is a two years master's thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

Abstract:
With the recent advancement of mobile technologies, such as smart phones, digital cameras and PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), and tablet PCs mobile learning provides opportunities for formal and informal education in a wide range of settings. In particular, the use of mobile technologies to access digital libraries opens up doors for providing unique learning experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. This paper presents the design and implementation of a mobile learning digital library infrastructure and test applications. We first conducted a user needs analysis of students, educators, and parents in order to understand desirable functional attributes and challenges associated with mobile learning. We translated this needs assessment into a list of twelve functional attributes for digital library infrastructures and mobile device applications that will facilitate informal learning. In order to test out the recommendations, a conceptual design was developed as a lesson plan that uses mobile devices and digital libraries to teach the concept of simple machines. This lesson was implemented during a workshop conducted with students in the TechBridge program, an after school program that introduces girls to technology. The students that participated in this workshop were from less affluent schools and were all members of ethnic groups that are typically underrepresented in the field of engineering. This paper summarizes the needs assessment research, implementation, testing and recommendations for future work. Our goal is to provide recommendations for mobile learning technologies that will increase access and enhance mobile learning experiences for students of all backgrounds.

Abstract:
This article will try to answer the following question: How can public libraries capitalize on and integrate the Open Science agenda into the list of library services according to the needs and informational behavior of users? What could be those innovative library services, based on the principles of Open Science, that would be the best investment in libraries? There are two proposed solutions. The first is to invest in human resources in public libraries, through programs and courses conducted at national or regional level, for the librarian to develop skills specific to Open Science, which involve the manipulation of the latest technologies, digitization, support in the use of data, creating specific sites or applications and so on Second, to create innovative services for Open Science, to rebuild or build from scratch a strong, reliable information network with a strong emphasis on lifelong learning. An example would be the creation of STEAM type workshops, replicable in any library, to complete the formal education received by students in schools in Romania or the Republic of Moldova.

Abstract:
The year 2023 is declared the Year of the Pedagogues and Mentors in the Russian Federation which coincides with the 160-th anniversary of Vladimir I. Vernadsky, a scholar, encyclopedist and philosopher, founder of the scholar schools and new discipline of biogeochemistry, father of noospheric science, initiator of radium studies, and author of many scholarly works. As far as the libraries are concerned, the two aspects are emphasized: Vernadsky’s contribution to building the noospheric thinking, and his role in science development and establishing scholar schools. The former aspect is related to the understanding of the libraries role in the modern transient world. The latter is related to the understanding of the place of scientific information and, correspondingly, the libraries potential of its provision and popularization. The authors discuss the contribution made by V. I. Bernadsky to developing the concept of noosphere close to the modern concept of sustainable development. The thematic resource designed by RNPLS&amp;T on the occasion of Vernadsky’s anniversary is presented.

Abstract:
As information resources of all types and disciplines are being stored and retrieved in digital form, libraries are responding to the demands for more effective retrieval of such documents and to provide even more digital access to scholarly and recreational library materials. This has led schools of library and information science to develop special programs, degrees, and certificates in digital librarianship. These programs vary from one school to another, but they all demonstrate the multidisciplinarity of education for librarians who will work specifically with digital librarianship. Library and Information Science education has always had a multidiscipline orientation, with traditional faculty consisting of those with degrees in the fields of sociology, communications, history, public administration, education, engineering, and computer science, as well as advanced degrees in library and information science. But with the advent of special programs in digital librarianship, the curriculum has begun to switch to a multidiscipline curriculum content which may be evolving into a sub-specialization in the field. These trends are examined in this paper and recommendations are made regarding future research needed to determine the advisability and sustainability of this trend.

Abstract:
In the context of the knowledge society, the development of the educational system is influenced by several important variables such as: performance, ability to transform itself along with the necessities of the labor market, new teaching methods, capacity to attract student’s also national but very important international students. As it is the educational system is crossing a very ”cloudy” period. The article is focused on presenting a way thought educational system could participate one on development of other using clusters. In the case of education programming, a cluster is group of schools located in close proximity to each other whose staffs meet regularly to build their capacity to improve quality at their schools. The cluster should provide different schools the opportunity to share their innovations and experiences. Various platforms and events, such as monthly meetings, exposure visits, and orientation programs, can be used for this purpose. It is here that teachers and schools with specialized skills can provide information as well as support to other schools to implement good practices and innovations A cluster is not only a method to connect school but also the business environment, infrastructure which in the case of the educational system is the libraries, and the research entities. The main goal of this article is to discuss the main model of educational cluster, to offer successful examples and good practice example that can be of use in the Romanian educational system. In conclusion, for schools the main gain of being in a cluster is that it can develop together but also being in competition of attracting new students, on long term teachers’ can share one to another their experience.

Gargiulo, Carlos, Martín Moreno, and Jesús Duarte. School Infrastructure and Learning in Latin American Elementary Education: An Analysis Based on the SERCE. Inter-American Development Bank, 2011. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0009016.

Full text
Abstract:
This study explores the state of infrastructure in the region's primary education schools, using the SERCE database, and analyzes the connection between school infrastructure conditions and language and mathematics tests results for third and sixth grade students. The results of the analysis indicate that school infrastructure and the access to basic services (electricity, water, sewerage and telephone) in the region's schools are highly deficient; there exists a large disparity between countries as well as between private urban, public urban and public rural schools; and there are large gaps between schools with children from high income families and schools with children from low income families. The analysis on the relationship between school infrastructure and academic results in the SERCE tests indicate that the highest factors most significantly associated with learning outcomes are: the presence of spaces that support teaching (libraries, science and computer labs); the connection to electric and telephone utilities; access to potable water, drainage and bathrooms. This indicates that countries in the region must strengthen investment geared towards improving school infrastructure in order to close the gaps that negatively affect rural areas, public sector schools, and schools with students from low income families. Likewise, public policies must prioritize infrastructure areas that have an impact on learning.

McReynolds, Stephanie JH, Peter Verheyen, Terriruth Carrier, and Scott Warren. Library Impact Research Report: Distinct Academic Learning Communities at Syracuse University Libraries. Association of Research Libraries, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.29242/report.syracuse2022.

Full text
Abstract:
As part of ARL’s Research Library Impact Framework initiative, a team at Syracuse University Libraries conducted a study to explore the impact of embedding three “distinct academic learning communities” in Syracuse University’s Bird Library: the Blackstone LaunchPad; the Center for Learning and Student Success; and the Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement. Three objectives guided the team: (1) explore how the libraries impact the communities; (2) determine how the communities impact the libraries; and (3) identify methods/metrics that could demonstrate reciprocal impact and be useful to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Impact was explored from multiple perspectives, including community directors, community participants, the libraries’ dean, and libraries’ staff. Results point to the value of the library as a central and interdisciplinary academic space for the communities, one that helps break down disciplinary borders by allowing community participants to more easily meet and collaborate with students from other schools and colleges.

Full text
Abstract:
This evaluation seeks to determine the extent to which the Bank supported equitable access to secondary education, improvements in secondary education quality, and reforms of education institutions to improve management capacity. In addition, it describes the approaches taken and examines the results obtained. The evaluation found that as the Bank's overall education financing for the Region increases, so does its role in supporting education policy reforms that will affect access, efficiency, and learning outcomes. The Bank has the potential to make significant contributions to improving secondary education outcomes for all students. However, educational disadvantage is deeper and more complex than the disparity in the numbers of schools with libraries, the conditions of the school building, or the availability of computers. More attention needs to be given to what work that is, what strategies have been shown to improve student retention, completion, and achievement. Political dynamics need to be understood and taken into account in loan design, while at the same time recognizing that those dynamics also determine in part the role of the Bank (as discussed in detail in Chapter VI) and the extent to which inputs are used productively. In many LAC countries it is imperative to continue enhancing the management of the educational system at all levels, especially in the areas of results-based management, assessment, and monitoring and evaluation.

Full text
Abstract:
The paper deals with the possibilities of using specialized (virtual labs and simulators, software for natural process simulation) and general (programming languages and libraries, spreadsheets, CAS) software in school researches. Such software as virtual labs, software for natural process simulation, programming languages and libraries in school researches can be used to simulate phenomena that cannot be learned in a school lab (for example, for modeling a radioactive decay or for demonstrating the states of relativistic mechanics). Also, virtual labs in school practice are usually used in those cases where students cannot perform an experiment in real labs. For example, it is convenient for distance learning. The using of programming languages and libraries in physics learning research requires both students’ physics research competencies and programming competencies. That is why using this software in physics classes can hardly be recommended. However, programming languages and libraries can become a powerful tool for the formation and development of research competencies of physics students in extracurricular learning activities. The implementation of the spreadheets and the CAS in school physics researches is the easiest and has its benefits.

Abstract:
The caste system in India and the structural inequalities perpetuated by casteism are significant challenges to creating a just society. The problem is exacerbated because the education system, including libraries and school curricula, does not fully acknowledge and confront this complex issue. Historically, libraries have emerged as safe spaces for collective conversations, diverse collections and dialogue around sensitive subjects. This project worked closely with a selective sample of seven library educators—most of them with caste privilege—to: examine their knowledge, attitudes, and practices on caste issues by reading caste literature, with reflective discussions, and introspective journaling; and develop their preparedness to conceptualise, design, and pilot a library unit on caste with children from privileged backgrounds.

Abstract:
The author of the study analyzes and determines the features of the introduction of new forms of education in the highest historical pedagogical institutions of Ukraine in the early twentieth century. In particular: colloquiums, excursions, rehearsals, the organization of scientific sections of students and societies. Colloquiums were held to discuss the creative work of students. Proseminars prepared students for participation in seminars. Excursions prepared students for scientific work and taught them to collect information about historical monuments. Interviews and rehearsals took an important place in the revitalization of academic activity of students in universities. During the interviews, students learned to express their thoughts freely. Rehearsals were used as a means of monitoring the progress of students. An important component of the preparation of the future teacher of history was the organization of scientific student sections and societies. The main forms of their work were: the discussion of scientific reports, the publication of periodicals, the creation of libraries, museums, etc. The most talented students took part in scientific sections and societies. Thus, higher education institutions created prerequisites for the education of gifted young people. The publication also reveals the specifics of the practical training of students. The practical component included not only pedagogical, but also museum practice. In addition, pedagogical institutions of higher education conducted educational excursions, literary and musical evenings, organized social, sanitary and charitable activities. The author of the publication not only explores the features of various forms of education, but also the possibility of using them in the practice of the modern higher pedagogical institution in Ukraine.
