Abstract:
This article attempts to identify the interests and values of modern teenagers who live in a large peripheral city and attend events that are regularly held in municipal libraries. The main possible types of work of a modern library and secondary school are not only the recommendation of educational and extracurricular literature, events, Olympiads and competitions, but also the education of library culture among schoolchildren. The library is forced to infiltrate the school to keep up with school education. To do this, it is necessary to organize joint work with representatives of specific schools (their principals, head teachers, interested teachers and parents), as well as with higher-level organizations of municipal and regional levels. It was supposed to find out what is the basis of the attitude of adolescent schoolchildren to reading as a process and as a value. The article is based on the eponymous research conducted by the Izhevsk city libraries in 2019. The study showed a fairly high degree of interest of modern schoolchildren in the services that can be provided in municipal libraries. The main topics of information needed by respondents were identified. We also managed to determine the preferred genres of books. Respondents named their favorite authors and expressed their attitude to reading and reading people. Thanks to the results obtained, librarians are able to improve the culture of library services for library visitors of different socio-demographic groups and plan their professional activities more carefully.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to measure how effective television programs are in persuading teenagers to use public libraries. Design/methodology/approach This study is a descriptive survey. The statistical population includes all members of public libraries in the City of Isfahan aged between 12 and 16 years (N = 920). Using Cochran’s formula, the sample size was determined to be 270 individuals. The data were collected by a researcher-made questionnaire survey instrument whose validity was confirmed by Library and Information Science experts. Furthermore, the reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed via “Cronbach’s alpha” in the pilot test with 0.73. Having a return rate of 85.93 per cent, the authors were able to analyze 232 sets of responses. Findings Based on the authors’ findings, television programs are only able to satisfy the first stage of the model (i.e. Attention). So, its role in encouraging teenagers to use public libraries is not significant. Among the items of the model, “Desirability and interest in the program” and “Persuading teenagers to use public libraries” were found to be the most and least effective items, respectively, with average responses of 8.42 and 5.13. Moreover, television shows categorized as kids/teenagers were most likely to attract the target audience to libraries. Originality/value There is no any similar study in this scope, especially in the Middle East, where watching the television remains a mainstream activity for teenagers. It is for the first time that AIDA model is used for measuring the effectiveness of television programs in persuading teenagers to use public libraries in Iran.

Abstract:
Objective – This project, based on a study of the impact of art programs in public libraries on the teenaged participants, sought to show how library practitioners can perform embedded, participatory research by adding participants to their research team. Embedded participatory techniques, when paired with grounded theory methods, build testable theories from the ground up, based on the real experiences of those involved, including the librarian. This method offers practical solutions for other librarians while furthering a theoretical research agenda. Methods – This example of embedded, participatory techniques used grounded theory methods based on the experiences of teens who participated in art programs at a public library. Fourteen teens participated in interviews, and six of them assisted in coding, analyzing, and abstracting the data, and validating the resulting theory. Results – Employing the teenagers within the research team resulted in a teen-validated theory. The embedded techniques of the practitioner-researcher resulted in a theory that can be applied to practice. Conclusions – This research framework develops the body of literature based on real-world contexts and supports hands-on practitioners. It also provides evidence-based theory for funding agencies and assessment. In addition, practitioner-based research that incorporates teens as research partners activates teens’ voices. It gives them a venue to speak for themselves with support from an interested and often advocacy-minded adult.

Abstract:
Abstract Objective – To discover the attitudes of twelve to fifteen year-olds toward the public library. Design – Mixed methodology consisting of a survey and focus groups. Setting – An Eastern Canadian regional municipality. Subjects – Twelve to fifteen year-old middle school students. Methods – Using a disproportionate stratified sample and multistage clustering, the author mailed 900 surveys to middle school students; 249 surveys were completed and usable. Those students who completed the survey and who also indicated they would be willing to participate in a focus group were randomly selected to participate in nine focus groups with between 7 to 12 students in each group. Main Results – Discrepancies exist between the teens’ level of satisfaction with the library indicated on the survey (high) and expressed in the focus groups (low). Teens seldom use the public library due to: their non-existent relationship with library staff, although teens who were “active readers” used the library more; lack of appealing programs and program promotion; no teen-focused website; poor teen facilities within the library; and an overall failure of the public libraries to include teenagers. Conclusion – Public libraries need to be more responsive to teen needs to attract teens to use the library. To uncover these needs, libraries should use mixed methods of discovery.

Abstract:
According from a study from United States, Indonesia is ranked 60th out of 61 countries measured by its population’s reading interest (Mikhael Gewati, 2016). One of the worst case existed in Bekasi, where only 10 percent of its teenagers has a sufficient reading interest. The main causes are the non-matching teenager’s character that is dynamic with the existing library’s characters which are enclosed and monotonous, as well as the obligation of text books usage, which makes them feel like they are being given additional “task” when reading other books (Quora, 2022). Both statements are proven after few teenagers are surveyed, where only 1 of 20 teenagers took interest in reading routinely. From this problem, hybrid-public library design is proposed, with programs such as reading analog and digital book, discussing, studying, eating together, watching video, playing games, and resting, to highlight the productive aspects of reading, not only done by just “staring texts”. After searching strengths and weaknesses of existing libraries in Bekasi, the location at Jl. Kimangun Sarkoro, RW.006, Bekasi Jaya, Kec. Bekasi Timur is recognized as the perfect place for the design. Since the surrounding buildings are low-rise, the library will be made with just 3-storey height, with the minimum required area is 5018,57 square meter. Architectural theme that will be applied has characters of “youth” which are flexible, unimpeded, with various material expressions and different from existing libraries. Keywords: reading facility; reading interest; teenager Abstrak Menurut sebuah studi yang berasal dari Amerika Serikat, Indonesia memasuki urutan ke-60 dari 61 negara yang diukur berdasarkan minat baca penduduknya (Gewati, 2016).

Abstract:
The article studies the role of city libraries in school education based on expert interviews carried out with Moscow teachers, librarians, teenagers, and their parents. The study is relevant due to the importance of city libraries in the educational process and their insufficient use in practice. This is the first comprehensive study of standardized interaction between schools and city libraries. The research has demonstrated that ties between these institutions and the process of their interaction have a personal and informal nature. Today, public libraries are information and education resources for school only to a small extent. Most teachers do not see any point in collaborating with libraries since their communication with librarians is not properly regulated. As a rule, successful examples of such interaction are not associated with established rules but rather with a personal interest conditioned by subjective, often random reasons. An essential characteristic of this communication is event-based learning, the use of verbal practices and educational games, as well as a stable educational orientation. Children as participants in the educational process have minimum engagement in this field. It is a rare case that libraries are regarded as a place for independent learning where students work with the necessary sources to conduct scientific research and engage in project activity. In most cases, city libraries attract teachers with their student-oriented events or activities. At the same time, libraries are rarely used in the educational process. Their role does not always involve working with collections or developing children’s need for independent reading. The latter can be satisfied by visiting a local library and addressing reading lists.

Academic libraries supporting education and library science programs collect youth literature to support courses that teach students to evaluate and use books with children and teenagers. Although children’s and young adult literature with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) content is often controversial, this literature is being discussed in both the education and library literature. This paper discusses the literature on LGBTQ youth literature, explores the extent to which academic libraries supporting education and library science programs collect recently published LGBTQ youth literature, and concludes that academic librarians responsible for youth collections should evaluate their LGBTQ holdings to ensure that they are meeting the needs of future teachers and educators for access to these books. The paper offers suggestions for assessing collections, locating LGBTQ youth titles, and updating selection procedures to build a more inclusive collection.

Abstract:
The problem of reader’s indifference of troubled teenagers hinders the development of cultural society; therefore, library-information institutions of the Russian Federation organize reading for this social community. However, library practices have low efficiency due to the lack of scientific knowledge about reader’s motives and informational needs of difficult teenagers, as well as special methods for developing their reading. To develop scientific methods for correcting the reading of difficult adolescents, taking into account their psycho-physiological features, the authors conducted the applied study based on the knowledge of the psychology of reading. The purpose of the article is to highlight the results of research aimed at studying the reader characteristics of socially troubled teenager and the method of organizing the reading in libraries. As a result, the authors revealed that the weakness of the emotional-volitional sphere, the involuntary attention, the inability to perceive and retain a large number of printed characters in consciousness is the basis of the reader’s failure of difficult adolescents. From this circumstance arose the question of using stimulating components in the reading process. Understanding the psychological features of the perception of text by troubled teenagers has allowed to assume that characteristics of the interactive document are the most suitable for them as external stimulus of reading. The data obtained in the psychological-pedagogical experiment indicated that interactive document compensates for the inadequate associative determinants of difficult teenager in the perception of printed documents, promotes visualization of literary images, which, in turn, contributes to the formation of motivational attitudes to reading and satisfies the information need. The authors consider the specific feature of interactive documents, which allows presenting the material in a more accessible perception. Reading of interactive documents can serve as a new effective method of the library work to meet the information needs of this social group, and it will expand the organization of reading of troubled teenagers.

Abstract:
The practice of reading the Quran is decreasing among teenagers. Various activities have been carried out to encourage teenagers to read the Quran more often. The study was conducted to achieve the objective of identifying the level of frequency of Muslim teenagers reading the Al-Quran as well as examining the level of mastery of Muslim teenagers in reading the Al-Quran. This study was conducted qualitatively. The primary data source of the study is through observation and questionnaires to students of Tun Hussein Onn University Malaysia. A total of 72 respondents among Tun Hussein Onn University students were involved in this study. This sampling technique was chosen purposefully and was not based on probability. We aim the scope of this study at teenagers. The targeted age is individuals between the ages of 16 and 24, comprising Muslim teenagers only. We obtained secondary data sources through libraries, official reports and all related documents. This study found that the level of Quran reading among teenagers is at a moderate level. The level of mastery of the Qur'an is moderate to good according to findings. In addition, this study also found that there are not many young Muslims who master the knowledge of tajwid well. So, this study suggests a study on the level of teacher satisfaction with mastery and appreciation of the Quran among Muslim teenagers. We hope that Muslim teenagers, as well as the government and parents, as well as the media, give better attention and focus to the Quran.

Abstract:
The condition and development of the Jewish libraries on the territory of Belarus before the World War I is researched. The author emphasizes that the Jews were one of the biggest ethnic groups in the region; therefore, they influenced cultural and educational processes on the Belarusian territories, including the development of librarianship. Special attention is paid to the quantity of the Jewish population on the Belarusian territories before the World War I (1897– 1914). It is also stressed that the Jews used the oral and written language at a sufficient level: this is an important condition for the development of nation-based libraries. The author analyses the state of the Jewish libraries in Vilno, Vitebsk, Grodno, Minsk and Mogilev provinces. The positive points are as follows: a good number of readers, free access to books outside the libraries as a stimulating measure to increase some interest among visitors, and periodicals reading rooms in some Jewish libraries in Belarus. Some obstacles on the way to the active development of the already existing and newly appearing Jewish libraries are revealed. They are as follows: weak state financial support, untimely book fund renewal, narrow target groups (mostly children and teenagers), non-qualified staff, low level of record management and local authorities’ bans for the registration of new libraries.

Abstract:
Purpose – The paper aims to explore the purposes of school libraries as they are viewed by teenagers attending a high school in northern England. Design/methodology/approach – The work is based on qualitative data contributed by 245 youngsters. Their material was coded inductively and frequency counts were generated in order to determine the balance of the data in relation to individual themes. Findings – Typically, the school library was understood as an area that made available books either for pleasure reading or academic purposes. No participant referred either to the work of librarians or to the value of libraries in enabling the user to find information in support of personal interests. Research limitations/implications – The research took place in only one school and it may well have been the case that many students who were apathetic towards school libraries simply declined the opportunity to participate in the work. Practical implications – Although the attitudes of the young people who contributed data were to an overwhelming degree constructive, key gaps were evident in their awareness of the potential of a school library. These are best rectified by managers developing their facility in such a way that it serves to demonstrate effectively to students the roles that the school library can play in a diversity of situations. Originality/value – Much of the published literature dealing with the purposes of school libraries and the prerequisites necessary to ensure their effectiveness pays little regard to the ideas of young people themselves. This paper goes some way towards remedying the deficiency.

Abstract:
Information literacy is one of the essential skills that society must possess, especially teenagers as students who need information for learning and as part of society who need information in general. It is expected that teenagers can choose and select the information they need from these diverse needs. The Covid-19 pandemic, which has hampered several activities, has limited the youth in developing information literacy skills, both through the library as a service provider of the development of information literacy and digitally, which still needs to be fully understood by them. This study aimed to find out information literacy of young library users during the Covid-19 pandemic era, starting from what programs were appropriate and could be given to students, especially those produced by libraries, and to find out the impact they had on teenagers. This study used a literature review with a type of narrative literature review. The program that the library could provide to students under normal circumstances or during the current pandemic was a literacy movement that would make them accustomed to interacting with various kinds of information, one of which was related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The impact of the literacy movement program in the library is that young library users can have information literacy skills, making them more information literate both for general knowledge and for learning as students.

Abstract:
This article uses the results of a recent research project to explore young people's information-seeking behaviour and how it develops during childhood. Young first schoolers learn much through practical experience and conversation with adults but, in the later stages of this school phase, books, CD-ROM and the Internet assume increasing importance. In the middle school, the Internet is used more frequently and CD-ROM exploitation gradually diminishes. Books from departmental libraries and textbooks provided by teachers play key roles in satisfying the academic information needs of high schoolers. It is in this phase that use of the Internet is greatest, although many teenagers are highly critical of it. Whilst the information-seeking behaviour of high schoolers is markedly more sophisticated than that of young children, some essential similarities remain. The article closes by discussing how the overall findings of the research have implications for practice, especially within schools and public libraries.

Abstract:
This publication is dedicated to the handwritten illustrated magazine of the early 20th century. The publication is dedicated to the handwritten illustrated magazine “In Leisure Hours”, which is stored in the Sector of Specially Valuable Collections of the Herzen State Pedagogical University’s Fundamental Library. The magazine is intended for children and on its 30 pages contains stories, poems, charades, and a letter to readers with a review of books read. Based on an analysis of the content of the texts, conclusions are drawn about the supposed authors of the texts. The period of the magazine’s creation is determined approximately by the realities mentioned in the texts and by the peculiarities of artistic design, characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. Presumably, the magazine was created between 1906 and 1908. During this period, in the late 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century, there was a sharp increase in the number of amateur magazines for children and teenagers as an embodiment of children’s self-expression and self-organization. This process is associated, among other things, with the relaxation of censorship after the 1905 revolution. Historically, the majority of handwritten periodicals produced by children in educational institutions or at home have not survived, or are kept in libraries and archives, and access to texts of this kind is difficult for a wide range of readers and researchers. Fixing and analyzing this type of sources is a new stage in understanding the worldview of children and teenagers at the turn of the 20th century.

Abstract:
The information space has “absorbed” Russian students, leaving them no time to read books and enrich their inner world and expand their knowledge. It is this factor that contributes to the decline of the cultural prestige of reading as a necessary source of important information. The steady decline of motivation to read among students, and, consequently, the deficit of knowledge, information, lack of reading experience, which is essential in the life of every person, has become quite urgent. For several years this issue worries not only teachers, librarians, but also parents. However, modern means of computerization, or rather their rational use in the educational process can help solve this problem. The purpose of this study is to consider the main reasons for the low level of formation of the students’ reading experience in the modern educational environment, as well as to identify possible ways of formation of the students’ reading experience in Russia. In theoretical research the analysis of psychological and pedagogical sources and opinions of experts engaged in research in this area allowed to define “reading experience” as “a phenomenon of individual and universal (mass), in general terms, correlated with the reading culture of society. During the survey among 1—2 year students of the Faculty of Philology (Russian and Foreign Philology) at Orenburg State University, it was found that reading has not lost its importance and is an important component of the life of a student of philology in the educational process. Thus, the main reasons for the low level of formation of students’ reading experience in the modern educational environment were identified: lack of professional staff, traditional approach to teaching reading, immersion of teenagers in the Internet and social networks. It was also found that the formation of the student’s reading experience is possible in the modern conditions of the educational space due to the national projects and activities aimed at maintaining an interest in reading, modern information technology, the revival of libraries and rational use of modern information technology, which is a component of the information space of the educational institution, as well as personal example of parents and the work of professionally trained personnel (librarians).

There are many reading competence tests in Spanish on the market and available in institutions like libraries or universities; some are scientifically validated whereas others lack theoretical support. Among the users of the AECL (Asociación Española de Comprensión Lectora: Spanish Association for Reading Comprehension) platform, there is an increasing demand for an easy-to-use tool aimed at older teenagers and adults, so that people can become aware of their strengths and limitations in reading comprehension. After a review of the reading competence tests in which individuals’ own recognized limitations have been included, the self-perception of the three dimensions that constitute the backbone of the Self-Assessment in Reading Competence: Memory, Attention, and Inference (MAI) instrument, which is based, in a simplified way, on the guidelines of the validated TEECLED tool, is analyzed. In a sample of 360 university students, the MAI tool has been tested in parallel with the scientifically validated reading proficiency test ComLec. The results of the analysis of the multidimensional tool MAI show significant internal consistency in both the separate dimensions (attention, memory, and inference) and the global tool, and a correspondence in the results with the ComLec reading proficiency test through multiple regression analysis. In addition, among all the dimensions, attention to memory and inference stand out; this suggests that one of the causes of not understanding what is read may, in fact, be our lack of attention during the process and not a problem with an individual’s reading ability.

Abstract:
At the beginning of the twentieth century about one in twenty American teenagers graduated from high school; by mid century over half of them did so; and today six of seven do. Along with this expansion in graduation, the experiences of high schooling became more significant. Though diversity existed at the school level, by the interwar period most high schools offered courses in “higher” academic subjects (literature, mathematics, and ancient and foreign languages), while they gave large numbers of students a chance to practice music, drama, and other fine arts. Business leaders and educators developed programs in technical-skill training. Courses in household economics, personal hygiene, and sex and reproduction appeared as well. A few schools operated with two shifts: day and night Many maximized their capacity by rotating students between newly constructed gymnasiums, stadiums, fields, swimming pools, showers, cafeterias, laundries, machine shops, laboratories, performance halls, and libraries. Some provided up-to-date diagnostic and preventative medical and psychological services. Others developed vocational guidance. Nearly all established relationships with juvenile justice and youth custody agencies. More than any other institution, the increasingly comprehensive high schools of the twentieth-century redefined the social lives of American youths through teams, clubs, bands, and groups engaged in a long list of contests, games, performances, and other events. Early in the century extracurricular activities began to rival formal class work as the primary focus of secondary schooling. Today there is a joke told from Ohio to Texas, funny for its sad truth. Q: How do you pass a school levy? A: Put football on the chopping-block.

Abstract:
Anime comes from the word "Animation", nowadays it is very popular among people, mostly kids and teenagers. They are being streamed on large platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Millions of people watch anime nowadays regularly. It has a huge fan base. Due to this increment in the popularity of anime, there is a requirement for a recommendation system that can suggest user watch the best-suited anime for the user. The recommendation system is used to predict the preference of the user based on user interest. In this paper, we have proposed an anime recommendation system. It is based on a content-based filtering approach that makes use of the information provided by users, analyzes them and then recommends the different anime that is best suited to the user. This method helps users to find anime that they are interested in and can watch without concern about the content of the show. They don't have to ask other people for suggestions about the anime and they can have a lot of options at the same place. The recommended anime list is sorted according to the ratings given to these animations by the user that is stored in the dataset and it uses various algorithms such as content-based filtering and sectorization for this purpose. It doesn't allow users to waste time because of its efficient and effective technique. This system has been developed in Jupyter Notebook with the help of python and machine learning algorithms as the backend and for the front end python idle is used with various libraries.

Abstract:
Young adult literature (YAL) is an important and necessary part of moral upbringing in teenagers and young adult lives. The present study seeks to investigate the effect of young adult literature on the morals of students in high school. The study utilized the quasi-experimental cum survey design and a sample of one hundred and forty (140) students of two schools were drawn from the eleven senior secondary schools in Bwari Area Council of Abuja, Nigeria. The intact class was utilized in each of the two schools, and the instruments for data collection was an Attitude to Morals Questionnaire (AMQ). The reliability and validity of the research instrument was assessed using Cronbach Alpha test with result of 0.91. The research questions and hypotheses were tested using mean score and two independent sample t-tests statistical methodology and all tests were computed at the 0.05 levels of significance with Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26. The findings of this study revealed that young adult literature significantly impact on the morals of the high school students. It was also discovered that honesty and respect for elders varies significantly in both the experimental and control groups. More so, the result showed that tolerance of male does not vary significantly with that of the female students in the experimental group. Schools should equip their libraries with sufficient novels on young adult literatures, the teachers should dwell more on the plot, theme and characters in the novels. Students should be guided, and emphasis should be made on the need to read young adult literatures, and more time should be allotted on the school timetable for reading of young adult literature.

Abstract:
Objectives. Crystal methamphetamine (“meth”) use among youth living in rural areas is higher than the national average. Given how drastically meth affects teeth (i.e., “meth mouth”), engaging dental professionals as one of multiple channels in rural areas to deliver meth prevention messaging is a novel approach. The objective of this research was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of incorporating meth use prevention messaging into dental visits with teenagers. Methods. We conducted phenomenological, qualitative research with dental practitioners, teens, and parents/guardians in three communities in North Idaho, from 2015 to 2016. We recruited practitioners using a snowball sampling strategy and placed phone calls to dental practices and contacted teens and parents through schools, libraries, local sporting events, and word-of-mouth. Using NVivo 12-Plus, parent- and teen-specific codebooks and themes were developed from guides and transcripts. Transcripts of the dentists and hygienists were reviewed to ascertain the main ideas and themes. Results. Overall, practitioner, teen, and parent participants viewed meth prevention messages delivered by dental professionals as acceptable and feasible. Compared to those in private practice, public health dental providers were invested in meth prevention and were eager to help. Barriers to overall acceptability and feasibility included hygienists’ low self-efficacy to deliver a communication-based intervention, infrequency of dental visits impacting the ability to reach enough teens through this venue, and the fact that teens could feel “targeted” by providers. Teens also raised concerns about scary messages exacerbating preexisting dental visit anxiety. Facilitators included the following: dental practitioners already engaging in health education with their patients, parents, and teens seeing dental professionals as appropriate purveyors of antimeth messaging and support for increased meth prevention efforts given the impact of meth use in their communities. Conclusions. Well-crafted, developmentally appropriate meth prevention messages would likely be well received by teens and supported by parents in dental offices. These data are being used to develop a novel, theory-based communication and behavioral strategy to integrate dental professionals into the delivery of messages aimed at preventing the initiation of meth use among rural Idaho teens.
