The Bloomsbury Architecture Library website provides an overview of architectural and interior design written primarily for secondary and undergraduate students. The content is divided into sections based on Place, Period, Subjects and Styles, Peoples, Cultures and Religions, Materials, and Architects, allowing users to explore the subject in a guided manner. The individual resources on the site are built around the newly revised Sir Banister Fletcher’s Global History of Architecture. This is supplemented by a collection of e-books providing deeper coverage on specific topics. An image collection of specific buildings, both plans and images, incorporates the important visual aspect of the topic. Within a specific topic, facets are provided to aid in further discovery. The sharp focus of this site provides an excellent starting point for research on architecture. The plans for additional resources will broaden coverage at a rate that should not overwhelm users and will keep the site relevant in the future.

Abstract:
This article is part of a research on concepts that belong to theoretical speculation sin the discipline of architecture. The main intention is to shed light on the relationship of these theoretical concepts with the construction of architectural form and the episteme of architecture itself. One such concept is the identity of architecture. In this context, this research aims to clarify the interplay between identity – as a theoretical concept that is directly related to the form – and the architectural discipline. The first hypothesis is that architectural forms do not have a particular identity detached from their formal essence, but have an identity expressed by morphology. Second, different architectures, being forms of representations, express an external identity depended on the historical, political, social or cultural conditions. This article defines three main plans through which the identity of an architectural work is manifested: formal, stylistic/linguistic, and technological. The followed methodological approach is based on a theoretical analysis of the concept of identity, its contextualization within the discipline of architecture, and the interpretation of the results of such analysis through the case study of the National Library of Kosovo, built in Prishtina during 1971-1982. The study of the National Library is conceived as an example where the results obtained at a theoretical level and which aim to further clarify the discourse on the presented concepts, are expected to be verified.

Abstract:
The development of architectural styles continues to change from time to time. Modern architecture is one of the phenomenal architectural styles because it is the turning point of major changes in classical architecture that has existed for thousands of years. There are several factors that triggered the emergence of modern architecture, namely the result of the industrial revolution in Europe and also the emergence of boredom and dissatisfaction of architectural artists at that time against classical architecture. Just like classical architecture, modern architecture is also divided based on its respective styles and characteristics. The indicators used in analyzing architectural styles can be in the form of material selection, material characteristics, structures, floor plans, building forms, and others. This study will focus on finding out what architectural styles are contained in the selected building object, namely the Geisel Library. The Geisel Library is a library building that is located and at the same time an icon of the University of California. The Geisel Library was chosen because of the unique shape and characteristics of the building and the lack of journals regarding the analysis of its architectural style. Methods of collecting data from research using literature studies from previous journals and building observations from the internet. The results of the research will be explained in a qualitative descriptive manner, presented in writing and tables and percentage calculations. The results of the analysis and literature of modern architectural styles, the selected building objects tend to lead to a style of brutalism accompanied by a functional and futuristic style.

Abstract:
As with many historical buildings around the world, building façades are of special interest; moreover, the details of such windows, stonework, and ornaments give each historic building its individual character. Each object of these buildings must be classified in an architectural object library. Recently, a number of researches have been focusing on this topic in Europe and Canada. From this standpoint, the Hijazi Architectural Objects Library (HAOL) has reproduced Hijazi elements as 3D computer models, which are modelled using a Revit Family (RFA). The HAOL will be dependent on the image survey and point cloud data. The Hijazi Object such as Roshan and Mashrabiyah, become as vocabulary of many Islamic cities in the Hijazi region such as Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, and even for a number of Islamic historic cities such as Istanbul and Cairo. These architectural vocabularies are the main cause of the beauty of these heritage. However, there is a big gap in both the Islamic architectural library and the Hijazi architectural library to provide these unique elements. Besides, both Islamic and Hijazi architecture contains a huge amount of information which has not yet been digitally classified according to period and styles. Due to this issue, this paper will be focusing on developing of Heritage BIM (HBIM) standards and the HAOL library to reduce the cost and the delivering time for heritage and new projects that involve in Hijazi architectural styles. Through this paper, the fundamentals of Hijazi architecture informatics will be provided via developing framework for HBIM models and standards. This framework will provide schema and critical information, for example, classifying the different shapes, models, and forms of structure, construction, and ornamentation of Hijazi architecture in order to digitalize parametric building identity.

Abstract:
Architectural books in use in England – and specifically in the Royal Academy Library – in the second half of the 18th century included translations of the major Italian treatises; Sir William Chambers’ Treatise on civil architecture (the first work of its kind by an English author); volumes recording actual buildings by English architects; archaeological works documenting the remains of ancient buildings; and works by Fréart and Perrault on the classical orders. The latter were complemented by Henry Emlyn’s eccentric Proposition for a new order of architecture published in 1781. The contents of Sir John Soane’s private library included a number of works not available at the Royal Academy, which he criticised for providing only a “very limited collection of Works on Architecture”. Soane’s library can be seen to have anticipated the professional architectural library, including more practical books (intended in many cases for the use of builders and carpenters), which was founded at the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1834 — today’s British Architectural Library.

Abstract:
Contemporary systems are trending toward 3D computer-aided design systems that integrate, network, and exhibit intelligence. The integration of parametric technology with ancient Chinese architecture can enhance the efficiency and quality of managing information on ancient buildings, thereby expanding the application scenarios of ancient architectural information models. By analyzing the construction characteristics of ancient Chinese carpentry work and modular systems, this research outlines the logic and methods for generating Chinese ancient architecture. The program’s parametric technology allows for adjusting variable parameters to produce carpentry work structures of varying scales and forms. Furthermore, this research establishes a library of parametric 3D components for ancient architecture, which can simplify the design process of contemporary antique architecture. Additionally, the parametrization of Chinese ancient architectures can function as an auxiliary tool for maintenance and repair techniques, serving as a storage mechanism for whole-life cycle information. This can enable the digital archiving of component information and model entities in an informative manner for managing existing ancient architectures.

Abstract:
Abstract Since the late-20th century, there has been a transition from an industrial society to an ‘information network society’. ‘The production, organization and dissemination of knowledge’ began to change rapidly at the start of the 21st century, whereas this situation was met by the more effective search, use and evaluation of all kinds of information by library users. This work has focused on how the paradigm shift in information technology differentiates the functions and architecture of the 21st century ‘next-gen’ libraries from the traditional sort. Constituting the sample area of the study, the Oodi Library and its architectural features was examined within the context of ‘new architectural design criteria’, such as accessibility, symbolism, spatial organization, access to collections, self-study and integration, both in situ and by means of literature research. In research, it was observed that libraries need to be designed in line with new architectural design criteria, keeping the digitalization of information and integrating new information technologies in the forefront. The paradigm shift in information technology with digitalization has been the catalyst that transforms the libraries of the 21st century into centres of intellectual life, while reinforcing their role as a symbol of education, equality, transparency and civilization.

This article explores how our understanding of the materiality of knowledge has changed during the 20th century and how these meanings got incorporated into the concept of information. Special attention is given to Paul Otlet, the founding father of documentation, and to Norbert Wiener, the founding father of cybernetics. Furthermore, there is the question of what these changes that surround the notion of information imply for the architectural conception of the library. If the current discourse treats the library no longer as a space of books but as an information space, what implications does this evolution have for the architecture of the contemporary library? What is this information space that architects are required to articulate and to interpret?

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> In the study of built heritage, the introduction of BIM models provides the advantage of a set of data that can be shared between different platforms. Despite the continuous progress in research, the modeling processes of complex construction elements, typical of historical architectures, always require a certain attention and care that involve considerable investments in terms of both resources and time. In this paper we present the first results of an ongoing research aimed at considering possible methods that can allow a simplification of the modeling processes of elements of historical architectures in the BIM environment. In particular, the research aims to explore the possibilities offered by the algorithmic modeling of complex construction elements. In the study of historical architecture, an enough recurring theme concerns those elements that can be traced back to the principles of architectural orders. In the survey of historical architecture, a quite recurring case study concerns those elements or parts of building ruled by the principles of architectural orders. One of the first elements taken into consideration was that of the column that, in its articulation in base, shaft and capital, offers three different levels of complexity of the modeling process very suitable for the research path. Starting with a collection of data acquired from digital photogrammetric modeling, we considered a initial set of different case studies that allowed us to conduct a first working hypothesis by embracing a quite wide range of possible variations starting from a basic column.</p>

In this article, we present Ginkgo , a modern C++ math library for scientific high performance computing. While classical linear algebra libraries act on matrix and vector objects, Ginkgo ’s design principle abstracts all functionality as “linear operators,” motivating the notation of a “linear operator algebra library.” Ginkgo ’s current focus is oriented toward providing sparse linear algebra functionality for high performance graphics processing unit (GPU) architectures, but given the library design, this focus can be easily extended to accommodate other algorithms and hardware architectures. We introduce this sophisticated software architecture that separates core algorithms from architecture-specific backends and provide details on extensibility and sustainability measures. We also demonstrate Ginkgo ’s usability by providing examples on how to use its functionality inside the MFEM and deal.ii finite element ecosystems. Finally, we offer a practical demonstration of Ginkgo ’s high performance on state-of-the-art GPU architectures.

Abstract:
Adaptive Mobile Learning Systems (AMLSs) are technological tools that incorporate adaptive learning to generate an individual teaching–learning process for each student. Despite the proliferation of AMLS, their development is often hindered by a lack of standardization and the poor quality of existing software architectures in terms of requirements correctness and coverage. This paper presents a systematic literature review (SLR) of software architectures oriented to developing AMLS reported in the state of the art. For this SLR, we searched the ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, Science Direct, Springer, and SCOPUS. Studies published in English that describe and evaluate a software architecture to develop AMLS were included. Twenty-two primary works were relevant to the present study. Based on the obtained results, we have identified key aspects that must be considered in a software architecture proposed for developing an AMLS in terms of requirements, quality attributes, stakeholders, services provided to users, views and architectural styles, components, and implementation technologies. The main finding of this work is the lack of a reference software architecture that considers all the requirements and quality attributes needed for developing AMLS. This gap hinders the effective development and standardization of quality AMLSs, suggesting a critical need for a comprehensive reference software architecture.

Abstract:
In the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library of Columbia University in New York is an interleaved second (1819) edition of Thomas Rickman's An Attempt to Discriminate the Styles of English Architecture. This volume contains sixty-six relatively unknown illustrations of medieval architecture in Rickman's hand which can be dated to the later 1830s. It was discovered that many of these drawings in the Avery Library were either traced outright or modelled after plates from well-known contemporary works on architecture, in particular the works of John Britton. There is reason to think that Rickman may have purchased the rights to Britton 's plates and other sources, revised them, and had intended to reprint them as lithographs to illustrate afifth edition of An Attempt.

The Internet affords the librarian many opportunities to enhance reference services. Online reference tools such as library catalogs, specialized indexes, directories, dictionaries, etc. provide access to bibliographic information, organizational information, and information about the net itself. In addition to the information resources available on the net, its communications power facilitates exchange of information and efficient use of expertise. Although finding specific information on the net can sometimes be a problem, due to the quantity of data and the net’s rapid expansion, search tools are being developed to mine the riches of the Internet. Abstract:
The article traces the path of the emergence and development of libraries in different historical periods. From ancient times, when it was customary to create libraries at the palaces of kings, to libraries that were located at monasteries; from the period of cultural and educational development, when libraries were part of universities, to libraries as independent institutions. Examples of global experience in designing modern library buildings are given. On the basis of the researched material, a number of factors that influenced the formation of architecture and the transformation of the internal space were determined, with the primary function of preservation to a multifunctional urban center as convenient as possible for the realization of cultural, social needs and ideas. A building with open spaces and areas for communication. Spirituality is the main goal of architecture. Architects and designers, when designing modern library buildings and spaces, often deviate from the strict standards of the volume-planning structure, including recreation areas, exhibition areas, cafes, conference halls, areas with access to electronic media, halls with access to open funds, etc., which are not typical for libraries. A modern library project begins with a concept. The architectural concept of a modern library is a combination of knowledge, architecture, landscape and the wider public environment. The article shows how the evolution of the forms and functions of library buildings under the influence of technical, cultural, social, and economic development of society directly affects the aesthetic and functional renewal of their architectural and artistic diversity and volumetric and spatial environment.

Abstract:
Architecture in Oxford between the Civil War and the early Georgian period presents a fascinating picture of great stylistic change and originality, as vernacular building traditions largely inherited from the Gothic of the Middle Ages were superseded by new design philosophies derived from Renaissance interpretations of classical architecture. The new architecture was driven by an increasingly élite and academic taste, largely dependent upon expensive foreign books and even more costly foreign travel, and necessitated fundamental changes to the established building practices of the colleges, which had hitherto relied largely on local master masons for both construction and design. As architecture ‘was something outside the ken of the average Oxford don’, knowledgeable men, especially those who had travelled abroad and seen modern buildings, became important arbiters of taste, and often drifted into architecture as a result. The first and most famous Oxford man to take this path was Christopher Wren of Wadham College in the 1660s, but he was followed a generation later by Henry Aldrich, Dean of Christ Church, after whose death in 1710 the mantle passed to George Clarke of All Souls College. It is with the significance of the latter two men’s activities at Christ Church that we will presently be concerned.

Abstract:
The ancient roof decorative components of the official-style architectures from the Ming and Qing dynasties in China hold both physical and symbolic significance. These roof structures are the essential objects in three-dimensional (3D) modeling of ancient architectures for traditional Chinese cultural preservation. Although ancient architectures can be surveyed by a 3D laser scanner, the complex geometry and diverse pattern of their roof decorative components make the 3D point cloud reconstruction challenging, or at some points, nearly impossible in a fully automated manner. In this paper, we propose a method to ensure that the 3D shape of each roof decorative component is accurately modeled. First, we establish a decorative components template library (or “template library” in short hereafter), which is the first of its kind for the roofs of Ming and Qing official-style architectures. The process of establishing the decorative components template library begins with a remote collection of survey data using a terrestrial laser scanner and digital camera. The next stage involves the design and construction of different 3D decorative components in the template library with reference to the manuscripts written in the Ming and Qing dynasties’ architectural pattern books. With the point cloud data collected on any Ming and Qing official-style architecture, we further propose a geo-registration mechanism to search for an optimal fitting of the decorative components from the template library on the collected point cloud automatically. Based on the experimental results, the accuracy of point cloud registration yields less than 0.02 m, which meets the accuracy of the 3D model at LoD 300 level. Time consumption is less than 5s and stable, for large volume computing capacity has good robustness. The proposed strategy provides a new way for the 3D modeling of large and clustered historical architectures, particularly with complex structures.

Abstract:
Aalto's Viipuri library and Terragni's Como kindergarten were built at about the same time in two very different climates. Architectural theory rarely considers environmental moderation as part of the task of architecture and yet the spatial and poetic stances and attitudes to natural light in these two buildings are, in part, informed by their response to very differing climates. Today, when so much environmental moderation is self-conscious and explicit, these buildings show how it can become an enriched part of a wider spatial and compositional whole.

Abstract:
This study investigates implementation of the conceptual and textual techniques associated with poststructuralism (such as the poststructuralist concepts of writing, text, intertext, discoursive practices) in Rem Koolhaas's project the Jussieu Library (1992) planned within the Sorbonne University complex in Paris. The main hypothesis of the study is that Koolhaas produces in the project for the Jussieu Library transgression of language of modernistic architecture conceiving the concept of architectural promenade as a scene of writing. In other words, from the understanding of the concept of architectural promenade as a self-reflexive, abstract and autonomous concept, we move to the understanding of the architectural promenade as culturally dependent, but also for culture and society determinant concept. How does Koolhaas embody operative ideological practices of post-structuralism in the case of the Jussieu Library? How can we understand the concept of architectural promenade as a scene of writing? In other words, how can we understand the architectural promenade as a field of lines of deterritorialization and reterritorialization of different narratives, discourses, ideologies, contexts? What role could this concept of the architecture have in a society? In a theoretical context the study draws on the investigations of: Jacques Derrida, Michael Foucault, Joseph Beuys, Gilles Deleuze and F?lix Guattari.

Abstract:
How are women represented, specifically women of colour, in architecture library collections? I focus on two major trade periodicals to find out: Architectural Review (a British publication) and Architectural Record (American). I analyse firms highlighted in these periodicals in 2019, researching the proportion of women in leadership per each featured company. I compare against demographic and occupational statistics in the respective countries to see if these periodicals accurately represent the field, or further reinforce antiquated notions. My findings suggest that who the periodicals highlight is roughly proportionate or more diverse than the field itself, but the field continues to mostly represent white men as successful architects. Library collections reify that notion. In order to decentre the monolithic nature of many library collections, I further suggest approaches to increasing diversity based on my own initiatives.

- There are books of every sort available at libraries. Web-based software called Intranet Library Management System is used. This system has a list of all the books and allows remote users to view it simultaneously from wherever on campus. However, users need to be signed up for that. Two tiers of architecture make up this system. Students submit requests, which the server receives, processes, extracts data from the database, and then returns the completed request back to the client. This system offers a unique interface and login for students and librarians. Students may look for books online and renew their books. The librarian can change the database. They may simply send messages to the librarian from any location within the campus to propose new books. They may examine the due dates and issuance and return dates for any books. This system produces reports that may be used to evaluate the performance of the library. The management can then take the necessary action to upgrade the facilities.
