Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the various features and functions of Koha, Libsys, NewGenLib and Virtua with the help of specially designed evaluation checklist and rank them based on features/functions of integrated library management system (ILMS). Design/methodology/approach – The evaluation approach taken in this paper is similar to that of Singh and Sanaman (2012) and Madhusudhan and Shalini (2014) with minor modifications, comprising 306 features/functions and categorized as ten broad categories. Findings – The paper explores different features of open source (OS) and commercial ILMS, which reveals that Virtua got the highest total score of 218 (77.86 per cent), followed by Koha ILMS with 204 score (72.86 per cent). Interestingly, NewGenLib got the lowest total score, that is, 163 (58.21 per cent). ILMS under study are lagging behind in exploiting the full potential of the Web 2.0 features, including cloud computing features, and needs to be addressed in their future development. Practical implications – It is hoped that both the OS and commercial software will attend to the lacunae and soon develop fully functional Web 2.0/3.0 and cloud-based technologies. Originality/value – The findings of this paper will not only guide the librarians in the selection of a good ILMS, which can cater to the needs of their libraries, but also abreast the knowledge of evaluation of ILMS for the students of Library and Information Science. And the findings will help the ILMS vendors to know the limitations of their ILMS, so that they can overcome the limitations faced by users and improve their products.

Abstract:
With the innovation of new technologies, many life concepts have been changed. However, libraries remain the same in many sides while the main role of libraries has been changed and new references may not need a classical library as it was 50 years ago. In the same time, library services can be improved using Internet of Things (IoT) to increase user satisfactions. In recent years, there has been arisen in the diversity of implementation based on radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems and has been successfully utilized in several areas such as health care and transportation. RFID-based library management system will let rapid transaction flow for the library and could prove instant and long-term benefits to library in traceability and security. To solve the problem that it is inconvenient to find references in the traditional library, a kind of reference positioning system using RFID technology is designed to achieve fast search references in the library. Searching and sorting misplaced references are a hard task often carried out by the librarians. In this paper, the performance of RFID reader motion and tags allows fast transaction flow and easily handling the process like references borrowing from library can be done using RFID technology and users will get notified using Global System for Mobile. Two big issues have been exposed and tried to find the best solution for them, first is the management process of any library, from user management to shelving system and the second one is the data and reference security. The results show that the system can quickly find the references that bookworms hid, and the references are not timely put back on the shelves. Furthermore, the new library hall design and IoT-based system improve the security.

Abstract:
Legal libraries, by their very nature, have highly specialised requirements when it comes to library automation. A traditional library management system, which will simply catalogue books and provide the means to issue them to borrowers for a defined period, will not provide the flexibility required by a modern legal information centre. Serials management, direct links to web resources and the selective dissemination of information are of far more importance to a legal library than whether a loan is overdue. Access to information is crucial – the library catalogue needs to be available to researchers wherever they are, whether sitting at their desks or accessing the data via the internet.

However, several Arab schools could not implement the Koha ILS application to automate their school libraries for ease of use. Deploying technology in managing libraries can solve several identified issues in public and private schools. This provides efficiency, ease and improves the performance of library services. Therefore, this paper is based on qualitative research that implements an efficient open-source application known as Koha ILS in two Arab schools, namely Baseerah International School (BIS) and International Modern Arab School (IMAS), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In our analysis, we consider analyzing the proposed Koha ILS by providing backend accessibility so as library consumers can make a further enhancement to upgrade the application. The proposed Koha presents several positive impacts such as an efficient cataloging system, remote management of library consumer records such as books or room reservations and customizable searching interface for efficient usage. The application also presents multiple operating system support for a user’s flexibility. In our results, an analysis was made by comparing the two schools based on gender, position/ranks available in the school library, and IT gadgets. Toward this end, some limitations were noted and recommended as a future research direction.

Abstract:
This paper discusses a plan for integrating information literacy instruction sessions and other intermediate consumer community links by developing a library presence on a campus online learning management system: Blackboard. On this site, core information literacy tutorials and assessments are augmented with subject area library links, podcasts, blogs and RSS feeds. The academic library Blackboard site also serves as a demonstration model for information and links that are added to faculty Blackboard sites as a means of promoting library resources to their students. A literature review-based analysis examines the extent to which the use of learning management systems improves academic library services.
