Full textThe thesis was brought to light due to a particular necessity of guaranteeing enough space for reading at school, since this competence is a tool which offers the students the possibility of transiting through diverse areas of knowledge in a much easier way. A residential school was used in this context to the development of mediating reading practices applied in the Clube de Leitores workshop. By the exchange of impressions and experiences, the students perceive the Portuguese language in one of its biggest manifestations: the literature. During the research development, it was observed the reading progress of a group of students and how the contact with the text contributed to the improvement of oral and written discourses. The present work sets forth reflections regarding mother tongue teaching under the scope of textual genres. In addition to that, it also shows the training of readers based on the national curricular orientations. The methodology used in the Reading Program of Escola Sesc de Ensino Médio is exposed, emphasizing the role of the library and its performance. Taking these aspects into consideration, it is proposed that other educational institutions follow in its footsteps and make the most of the suggestions mentioned with the purpose of promoting reading at schools and profiting from the linguistic benefits that practice provides

Full textSo far, the oldest description that we have of the Franciscan Library of Assisi is an inventory made in 1381 by the friar John of Iolo. Friar John also labelled the manuscripts with strips of paper put on the covers and bearing the name of the author, the title and a call number of the manuscript. The inventory describes about 700 manuscripts; so far 540 have been identified, the majority of which are preserved in the Assisi Library. Among the ones which are not in Assisi, about 100 have been found in libraries either in Italy and in other countries. From the inventory one can infer that the Library was divided in two: the libraria publica, where the books were chained to the benches; and the libraria secreta, where the books were closed in the armarium and the books were available to be borrowed.I aimed to study this book collection from a codicological point of view, which had not had been investigated until now.I preferred not to focus on each manuscript and its content. Rather, I aimed to look at the library as a whole; therefore I gathered the general data by taking them from the descriptions of the manuscripts and then I combined those data within a new database; by doing this I was able to draw out new information about the collection itself. The first section of this work is focused on the history of the library, where I often referred to codicological elements. The central section aims to evidence the wholeness of the Assisi library, the way it was « pictured » by John of Iolo in 1381.Finally, the third section clearly highlights the codicological aspect of this research; here I tried to underline all the factors related to the book making and the writing of the manuscripts

Full textAn essential component regarding the development of information systems is the compiler: a tool responsible for translating high-level language code, like C or Java, into machine code. The issue is, compilers are themselves big and complex programs, making them also vulnerable to failures that may be propagated to the compiled programs. To overcome those risks research on “certified compilers” has been made, and recently some proposals have appeared. That sort of compilers guarantees that the compilation process runs as specified. In this dissertation is studied the applicability of the certified compiler CompCert in cryptographic software development. The first point being addressed was the use of support libraries, such as big number libraries. As a matter of fact, such libraries are an essential requisite for the considered type of application, therefore the study of different options for using these libraries, always considering the impact in program’s performance and semantic preservation offered by the compiler. The second point being addressed was the use of SIMD extensions available on recent processors. Here the objective was to demonstrate how one could overcome the current CompCert’s limitations as to discuss other solutions.

The SCC-DFTB method is a powerful semi-empirical method of quantum chemistry, which is able to treat huge molecular systems. However, SCC-DFTB has certain limitations, which diminish its strength for particular chemical applications. The first limitation concerns the fact that accurate energies, equilibrium geometries, and vibrational frequencies cannot be obtained with the existing parameter sets simultaneously. In the current parameterization of SCC-DFTB, insufficient number of reference potential energy surfaces were used for determination of the parameters. The second limitation comes from the fact that the current SCC-DFTB parameter sets are available only for few selected elements. To overcome those limitations, numerous reference potential energy surfaces representing various bonding mechanisms between atoms are required in the parameterization process. For generating reference potential energy surfaces usable in a fast parameterization process, most of high-level accurate quantum chemical methods are too expensive to be employed. Therefore, we construct a collection of force-field like potential energy functions on the 4-th order Taylor approximation to expand those functions. Generated by accurate Coupled cluster calculations, our potential energy function not only provide us with accurate potential energy surfaces but also allow for substantial savings in the computational time. The final library of potential energy functions were determined for 74 common molecules containing the elements of the first, second, and third row of the periodic table of elements. The list of these molecules attempts to represent the most typical bonding situations between these elements. We conclude the derivation of the library of potential energy functions by presenting a verification algorithm designed to validate the accuracy of our library. In the fitting process, we are able to control the RMS error to be less than 10-4 a.u. in all the studied cases. We have also implemented each of potential energy function as an external program, which can be invoked from the Gaussian09 program, for performing geometry optimization and calculating vibrational frequencies. In all of studied cases, our library of potential energy functions can reproduce the equilibrium geometry and vibrational frequencies giving results almost identical with those from the CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ calculation. For all the calculated vibrational frequencies, the error to CCSD(T) is smaller than 10 cm-1.
