Abstract:
AbstractThis article deals with the question of the art of the flute in ancient Libya. First, reference is made to the way in which the Greek rulers of ancient Libya tried to impose the idea of the Greek origin of the art of flute on the Libyans. This is followed by an analysis of the indications of the continuous existence of the art of flute in ancient Libya. Finally, it is interesting to note that ancient Libya has such a long tradition in the art of flute, opening up the possible Libyan origin of the instrument.

Was Sabellius really a Libyan? Examining contemporary sources and ancient historiography on one of the most enigmatic heretics in the history of dogmas, the article shows that the Libyan origin of Sabellius is unlikely, and that it is an exaggeration to claim that Libya was a Sabellian home in the third century. Eusebius of Caesarea is probably guilty of having identified the adversaries of Dionysius of Alexandria located in Ptolemais as disciples of Sabellius, and the testimony of Origen on the theology of the identification between the Father and Christ is too abstract to deduce that this th

Taking into account the calculations of the linguists on the dating of these linguistic processes, the emergence of E-M81 should be attributed to the time shortly after 8,000

In spite of the current hiatus in air traffic between Britain and Libya, the close links between Libyan aviation and Britain give hope for the future.

The problem of the origins of pastoralism in Egypt has not a general solution yet. The issue of domesticated sheep and goats is apparently solved: in the absence of wild ancestors in Africa, they were brought to Egypt from Southwest Asia in the late 7th – early 6th millennium BC. Cattle in this respect remains a subject of keen discussion. It is argued to have originated from the wild aurochs Bos primigenius that lived in Northern Africa back in the Pleistocene, and its domestication started in the Libyan Desert no later than the 9th millennium BC, as evidenced by the bone material of early Ne

Squalus blainville is one of the least studied Mediterranean shark species. Despite being intensively fished in several locations, biological knowledge is limited and no genetic structure information is available. This is the first study to examine the genetic structure of S. blainville in the Mediterranean Sea. Considering the high dispersal potential inferred for other squalid sharks, the hypothesis of panmixia was tested based on a 585 bp fragment of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene from 107 individuals and six nuclear microsatellite loci from 577 individuals. Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) is an uncommon neoplasm of B-cell origin with an incidence that varies significantly by age, sex, ethnicity, geographic location and socioeconomic status. This complex pattern was also found to be replicated among Mediterranean basin populations. HL incidence rates progressively decreased from industrialized European countries such as France (ASR=2.61) and Italy (ASR=2.39) to less developed nations such as Albania (ASR=1.34) and Bosnia Herzegovina (ASR=1.1). Regarding HL mortality we have found that countries with the lowest incidence rates show the highest number of deat

The British and US guidelines recommend BRCA1/2 (BRCA) screening among Ashkenazi Jewish people to identify high-risk individuals. BRCA status has not been investigated yet in the Jewish community of Rome. AbstractFour techniques, i.e., perineal patterns, isozymes, specific sequence characterised amplified region-polymerase chain reaction (SCAR-PCR) and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), were compared for the identification of species of root-knot nematode (RKN) from Libya. The RAPD technique proved superior for species diagnosis. A population from Massa that could not, because of atypical patterns, be identified using either perineal patterns or isozyme phenotypes, showed amplification patterns consistent with those of M. incognita. Endowment has a high status in Islam because of its importance in the life of Islamic societies due to the great services it provides in various fields. It enjoys flexibility in provisions, which enables it to keep pace with new developments, especially with the contemporary application of monetary products according to the needs of social groups. Hence the problem of research is rested in revealing the stagnation and decline that the waqf is witnessing in the Libyan environment. The object of the study is Turkey's foreign policy. The subject of the study is Turkey's mediation initiatives based on the example of the Libyan, Ukrainian, Syrian and Karabakh cases. The Turkish mediation is of the greatest interest, in view of Ankara's chosen course to elevate Turkey to the rank of global powers. First of all, this is due to the imperial past of the state, as well as the political orientation of the current leadership. Nevertheless, Turkey does not have the necessary resources to elevate itself to the rank of great powers, so diplomacy, and in particular mediation, has been

The chemical composition of the PM10 samples was determined by ion chromatography for the main ions, and, on selected samples, by particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) for the total content of crustal markers. Aerosol optical depth measurements were carried out in parallel to the PM10 sampling. The average PM10 concentration at Lampedusa over the period June 2004–December 2010 is 31.5 μg m−3, with lo

Spherical calcite chamber-like objects of almost identical size have been found in a few tests of Nummulites vascus. These Nummulites constitute the dominant benthic foraminifera assembly among the reported foraminiferal assemblage of the Abraq Formation (Late Oligocene) at the Daryanah- Al Abyar Roadcut in Northeast Libya. These structures are identified as brood chambers or cysts formed during reproduction and retained within the mother test, where the embryos were hosted during life. The possibility of a diagenetic origin to these cysts is excluded due to the hollow-nature of these objects
