Walczak, Bartłomiej, and Bartosz Starko. "Additional Transmissions of Hundsfeld and Lignitzer Dagger Teachings." Acta Periodica Duellatorum 6, no. 1 (June 1, 2018): 137–49. http://dx.doi.org/10.2478/apd-2018-0005.

Abstract:
Abstract Additional witnesses containing fragments of Martin Hundsfeld and Andre Lignitzer’s dagger teachings were located. These teachings were part of other anonymous dagger texts. Five of Lignitzer’s plays and three Hundsfeld’s can be found in the works of Gregor Erhart (MS E.1939.65.354), Lienhart Sollinger (Cgm 3712) and Paulus Hector Mair (C.94, Codex 10825). A synoptic comparison of these witnesses with other representatives points to the existence of at least two other manuscripts – one that was base for Erhart and Sollinger, and the other being the base for Paulus Hector Mair’s works. Additionally, the analysis seems to suggest that the Proto-Erhart was based on the original proto-manuscript, not transmitted through other known sources. Interestingly, Erhart seems to be a faithful copy of its progenitor, even though it contains a very disorganized text, where dagger techniques are mixed with other weapons. The article contains transcriptions as well as updated stemmae codicum for these traditions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Faced with a growing number of international opportunities, the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University adapted a business model to assess which opportunities to pursue. Employing a product portfolio matrix approach, the International Opportunities Assessment (IOA) Tool was developed to assess new international ventures using the parameters of Market Attractiveness and Institutional Resources. The tool was piloted on a study abroad nursing course featuring a trip to Iceland. The tool assisted in prioritizing program development for international opportunities. In this article, we will describe the development of this tool and, in order to demonstrate its use, we will provide an example of its application in the assessment of a study abroad course for nursing students at the Lienhard School of Nursing, Pace University.

The prediction of boiling burnout in the jet-disk configuration by Lienhard and Eichhorn (based on the mechanical energy stability criterion) is used to recorrelate the data of Katto, Monde, and others. This new correlation includes the identification of the ranges of influence of viscosity (of a Reynolds number) and of gravity (of a Froude number.) The correlation brings the data together within a standard deviation of ±8.66 percent in the range in which viscosity and gravity exert no influence.

Abstract:
An ultra high critical heat flux (CHF) was attempted using a highly subcooled liquid jet impinging on a small rectangular heated surface of length 5∼10mm and width 4 mm. Experiments were carried out at jet velocities of 5∼60m/s, a jet temperature of 20°C and system pressures of 0.1∼1.3MPa. The degree of subcooling was varied from 80 to 170 K with increasing system pressure. The general correlation for CHF is shown to be applicable for such a small heated surface under a certain range of conditions. The maximum CHF achieved in these experiments was 211.9 MW/m2, recorded at system pressure of 0.7 MPa, jet velocity of 35 m/s and jet subcooling of 151 K, and corresponds to 48% of the theoretical maximum heat flux proposed by Gambill and Lienhard.

Abstract:
The “Berenson” flat-plate transition-boiling experiment has been re-created with a reduced thermal resistance in the heater, and an improved access to those portions of the transition boiling regime that have a steep negative slope. Tests have been made in Freon-113, acetone, benzene, and n-pentane boiling on horizontal flat copper heaters that have been mirror-polished, “roughened,” or teflon-coated. The resulting data reproduce and clarify certain features observed by Berenson: the modest surface finish dependence of boiling burnout, and the influence of surface chemistry on both the minimum heat flux and the mode of transition boiling, for example. A rational scheme of correlation yields a prediction of the heat flux in what Witte and Lienhard previously identified as the “film-transition boiling” region. It is also shown how to calculate the heat flux at the boundary between the pure-film, and the film-transition, boiling regimes, as a function of the advancing contact angle.

Abstract:
Two new species of Lohmanniidae, Papillacarus (Papillacarus) internus sp. nov. from soil in Hainan Province, South China and Papillacarus (Vepracarus) hexagonus sp. nov. from rotten tree and soil in Chongqing City, Southwest China are described and illustrated. Papillacarus (P.) internus sp. nov. is most similar to Papillacarus (P.) lienhardi (Mahunka, 1997), however, it can be distinguished from the latter by the following characters: 29–30 pairs of additional neotrichal setae, seta c1 shorter than c2, all genital setae setiform and smooth. Papillacarus (V.) hexagonus sp. nov. is most similar to Papillacarus (V.) gueyeae (Pérez-Íñigo, 1989), however, it can be distinguished from the latter by the following characters: 38 pairs of additional neotrichal setae, 7 pairs of subcapitula setae, epimeral formula 9-4-3-4.

Abstract:
The Xenopus oocyte has a distinguished history as an in vivo host for the deposition by microinjection of a variety of macromolecules including DNA (Colman, 1984), RNA (Soreq, 1985), proteins (Dingwall, Sharnick & Laskey, 1982) and polysaccharides (Paine, Moore & Horowitz, 1975). In these cases, the oocyte has simply either provided an efficient production system for a product encoded by an injected nucleic acid (Soreq, 1985; Krieg et al. 1984) or has been used to investigate mechanisms regulating RNA (De Robertis, Lienhard & Parison, 1982) and protein (Gurdon, 1970; Davey, Dimmock & Colman, 1985) targeting within a living cell. However, microinjection also provides a method for perturbing or simulating processes that occur normally within the oocyte, in order to understand their molecular nature and regulation. For example, Bienz & Gurdon (1982) during their investigations of heat-shock translational control in Xenopus oocytes, argued that the heat-shock genes encoding the 70 × l03Mr heat-shock protein (hsp 70) must be constitutively active in oocytes; this was in contrast to the behaviour of injected Drosophila hsp 70 genes in unstressed oocytes. Bienz (1984) was subsequently able to simulate the natural situation and confirm her prediction by cloning and then injecting the Xenopus hsp 70 gene into oocytes

Abstract:
The psocid genus Dorypteryx Aaron is a small group in the family Psyllipsocidae, comprising only three species until now. The first Dorypteryx species, D. pallida, was described from North America by Aaron (1883), and subsequently recorded in Europe by Dessart (1976). Smithers (1958) described Dolopteryx domestica from Zimbabwe as the only species in a new genus. However, this genus was later synonymized with Dorypteryx by Lienhard (1977), who re-defined Dorypteryx and redescribed the two known species. After that revision, a third species, D. longipennis, was described by Smithers (1991) from Australia on imported specimens. Despite the low species diversity of Dorypteryx, the geographical range of this genus is rather wide, from the West Palaearctic, Afrotropical, Australian, Nearctic, and Neotropical realms. However, until now Dorypteryx had not been found in the Oriental realm. In the present paper, the genus Dorypteryx is recorded from a domestic habitat in Yunnan Province, China. Based on the contribution by Li (2002), there are three genera and 14 species of Psyllipsocidae in China (Pseudopsyllipsocus Li, Psyllipsocus Selys-Longchamps, and Psocathropos Ribaga). This discovery of Dorypteryx represents the first record of this genus in China, and also in Asia and the Oriental realm. The types of the new species described below, all females, are preserved in alcohol and deposited in the Entomological Museum of China Agricultural University (CAU), Beijing. The terminology of the adult generally follows Smithers (1972).

Abstract:
In turbulent liquid jet impingement, a spray of droplets often breaks off of the liquid layer formed on the target. This splattering of liquid alters the efficiencies of jet impingement heat transfer processes and chemical containment safety devices, and leads to problems of aerosol formation in jet impingement cleaning processes. In this paper, we present a more complete study of splattering and improved correlations that extend and supersede our previous reports on this topic. We report experimental results on the amount of splattering for jets of water, isopropanol-water solutions, and soap-water mixtures. Jets were produced by straight tube nozzles of diameter 0.8–5.8 mm, with fully developed turbulent pipe-flow upstream of the nozzle exit. These experiments cover Weber numbers between 130-31,000, Reynolds numbers between 2700-98,000, and nozzle-to-target separations of 0.2 ≤ l/d ≤ 125. Splattering of up to 75 percent of the incoming jet liquid is observed. The results show that only the Weber number and l/d affect the fraction of jet liquid splattered. The presence of surfactants does not alter the splattering. A new correlation for the onset condition for splattering is given. In addition, we establish the range of applicability of the model of Lienhard et al. (1992) and we provide a more accurate set of coefficients for their correlation.

Abstract:
The dynamics of a homogeneous turbulent flow subjected to a stable stratification are studied by means of direct numerical simulations (DNS) and by a two-point closure statistical EDQNM model, adapted for anisotropic flows by Cambon (1989). The purpose of this work is to investigate the validity of the anisotropic statistical model, which we refer to as the EDQNM2 model. The numerical simulations are of high resolution, 2563, which permits Reynolds numbers comparable to those of recent laboratory experiments. Thus, detailed comparisons with the wind-tunnel experiments of Lienhardt & Van Atta (1990) and Yoon & Warhaft (1990) are also presented. The initial condition is chosen so as to test the anisotropic closure assumption of the EDQNM2 model. This choice yields a ratio of kinetic to potential energy of 2[ratio ]1. This important amount of initial potential energy drives the flow dynamics during the first Brunt–Väisälä period. Because stronger transfer rates of potential energy than of kinetic energy occur toward small scales, the heat flux is (persistently) counter gradient at those small scales. The loss of potential energy at large scales is partly made up for by conversion of vertical kinetic energy, and this sets up a down-gradient heat flux at those scales, as if no or little potential energy were present at the initial time. Thus, common features with wind-tunnel experiments (in which there is relatively little potential energy just behind the grid) are found. Interestingly, only one quantity displays a similarity law in the DNS, in the EDQNM2 model and in the experiments of Lienhardt & Van Atta (1990) and Yoon & Warhaft (1990) as well: this is the ratio of the vertical heat flux to the dissipation rate of kinetic energy, which can also be interpreted as an instantaneous mixing efficiency. Thus, this parameter seems to be independent of initial flow conditions. Our calculations simulate a longer evolution of the flow dynamics than laboratory experiments (in which the flow develops for at most one Brunt–Väisälä period). We find that the flow dynamics change from about 1.5 Brunt–Väisälä periods. At that time, the heat flux collapses while the dissipation rate of kinetic energy displays a self-similarity law attesting that this quantity becomes driven by buoyancy forces. This permits us to link the collapse of the largest scales of the flow with the smallest scales being influenced by the buoyancy force. We finally discuss the influence of a geometrical confinement effect upon the above results. The EDQNM2 model compares remarkably well with the DNS, with respect to previous statistical models of stably stratified turbulent flows. Insufficient decorrelation between the vertical velocity and the temperature fluctuations is however observed, but with no dynamical significance. The vortex part of the flow is also overestimated by the EDQNM2 model, but the relative difference between the model prediction and the DNS does not exceed 15% after 6 Brunt–Väisälä periods. The EDQNM2 model offers interesting perpectives because of its ability to predict the dynamics of stratified flows at high Reynolds numbers. Knowledge about small-scale behaviour will be especially useful, to build up parameterization of the subgrid scales for instance.
