Guillard, Charlotte. "Rethinking economic growth and structural change : the role of boundaries and linkages between industries." Thesis, Strasbourg, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019STRAB022.
Full textEconomic development is associated with changes in production and export structures. Each country masters a set of capabilities, i.e. a set of tasks and knowledge necessary for the realization of some products. Mastering additional capabilities allows countries to produce more complex products or technologies. Understanding economic development involves understanding how countries can add new products to their production and export basket and develop particular industries. Each industry has specific characteristics in terms of capabilities, technologies and knowledge and in terms of the nature of their production. In this thesis, I provide empirical evidence of the importance of both boundaries and linkages between industries to understand structural change and the dynamics of economic growth. Chapter 2 proposes a new methodology for identifying patterns of organization of industries and their evolution over time. To do this, I analyze the cluster structure of the product network built from export data. Results show that products cluster according to different factors: their complexity and technological domains, the abundance of low-skilled labor or of natural resources they require, as well as global value chains and vertical integration of their production process. Moreover, I find that technological domains and boundaries between industries are not always clear-cut and can evolve over time. In chapter 3, I study the dynamics of economic growth by examining the characteristics and determinants of transitions between different medium-term growth regimes (rapid growth, slow growth and recession) using a semi-Markov framework. Results indicate that the effect of the manufacturing sector on economic growth is far from uniform and that the measure of economic structure also matters. In addition, clusters with similar technological intensity play a different role in the dynamics of growth, and, global value chains (GVCs) may explain some of these differences. Furthermore, although the textile industry is often seen as a steppingstone to industrialization, in this study the effect of this cluster is negative in many cases. Finally, this analysis highlights the presence of “recession traps”, which are largely driven by a greater specialization natural resources-based manufacturing clusters. Differences between industries affect not only the growth process through productivity gaps, but also the stimulation they provide to the rest of the economy through upstream and downstream linkages. Chapter 4 examines the impact of inter-industry interconnections on economic performance, focusing on demand dynamics (i.e. backward linkages). I relax two strong assumptions associated with the traditional calculation of the output multiplier, which makes it possible to estimate the degree of response to demand shocks from the supplying industries. Results show that there are significant differences across industries and countries. Manufacturing industries, and in particular final consumer goods ones, tend to be less responsive to shocks in demand relative to services. Significant differences are also observed between countries since manufacturing industries in developed countries tend to be less sensitive to demand shocks than in developing countries

Full text"A Recited Community: Figures of an Identity Foretold" looks at the processes of social identification among the youth in plural Lebanon. Ravaged by a fifteen year civil war between 1975 and 1990, this small Middle-Eastern country has become the symbol of divided societies. Through the exploration of student activism in a political party, the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), the book questions the dynamics of attachment, conflict, and reconciliation in a shattered country. Using original material collected during several years of fieldwork conducted in three of Beirut’s main universities, the author examines the importance of narratives inherited from the past to make sense of social world and sustain one’s sense of belonging. The focus on this narrative construction of group attachment allows portraying of three main features of affiliation in a plural society like Lebanon. First, the mobilization of conflicting storylines that create boundaries and mediate the relation of the individual with the others in the time and space of social interactions. Then, the incorporation of institutionalized collective tales and practices as modes of representation of reality. And finally, the integration of the self in the horizon of a collective memory that allows the insertion within a common emplotment of the multiplicity of members’ biographical experiences into a shared depiction of the past conflicts. Mediation, incorporation, and integration all emerge from and actualize the duality between ipseity and alterity, reminding us that the other is the condition of recognition, thus of existence, of the self

The objective of this study was to identify the genetic diversity among the lines and cultivars of Luffa spp., including L. cylindrica and L. acutangula. L. cylindrica and L. acutangula have well-differented morphological characters, differing in floral structure, time of anthesis and the fruit structure etc. In this study, genetic diversity was assessed among the lines and cultivars of Luffa spp., using 20 randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primers. These primers produced 148 stable bands, among which, 123 bands were polymorphic. Based on the RAPD data, the L. cylindrica cluster differentiated from the L. acutangula cluster at the level of 0.02 to 0.11 genetic similarity, indicating high level of genetic diversity between L. cylindrica and L. acutangula. The interspecific hybrid, the line 208, was produced by crossing L. cylindrica with L. acutangula. The interspecific hybrid differentiated from the L. cylindrica cluster and from the L. acutangula line A28 at the level of 0.36 to 0.45 and 0.45 genetic similarity, respectively, indicating that interspecific hybrid was genetically intermediate between both parental plants. The line 247 was produced by backcrossing of interspecific hybrids to L. acutangula line A28. The line 247 differentiated from individual parents at the level of 0.79 and 0.57 genetic similarity, respectively; moreover, the line 247 differentiated from L. cylindrica cluster, except the cultivar Shuang-Yi, at the level of 0.31 to 0.39 genetic similarity, indicating that the line 247 had closer relationship with L. acutangula than with L. cylindrica. This result was consistent with the genetic background of the line 247. The cultivar Shuang-Yi differentiated from the L. cylindrica cluster at the level of 0.60 to 0.73 genetic similarity. According to the ordination of all the 80 lines and cultivars determined by the first two principal component axes on the basis of 123 polymorphic bands, the cultivar Shuang-Yi was located between the L. cylindrica cluster and the line 208. It could be hypothesized that there had been some genetic introgression of L. acutangula germplasm into the cultivar Shuang-Yi. There was high level of genetic similarity among all the L. cylindrica lines and cultivars tested; some of the L. cylindrica lines and cultivars were identical genetically, indicating low level of genetic diversity and narrow genetic base among the L. cylindrica. However, all the L. cylindrica lines and cultivars tested could be divided into two clusters, and all the cultivars from China were in the same cluster, indicating they had closer relationship with each others. This study indicated that RAPD marker can be useful in assessing the genetic diversity and relatedness of the domesticated varieties of Luffa. In addition to RAPD analysis, the analysis of 19 phenotypic characters was carried out to assess the genetic diversity of L. cylindrica. The phenotypic characters investigated included seed length, seed width, seed length/seed width, seed thickness, weight per one hundred seed, seedcoat color, leaf length, leaf invagination, leaf length/leaf invagination, flower color, fruit skin color, fruit skin texture, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit width, fruit length/fruit width, pedicel length, remnant of stigma length, and remnant of stigma width. However, because of the serious damage caused by melon fly, the fruit characters of many lines and cultivars were lost. For this reason, the analysis of 12 phenotypic characters, not including the fruit characters, was also carried out to assess the genetic diversity. The result of the analysis of 19 phenotypic characters resembled the result of RAPD analysis more than that of 12 phenotypic characters did. According to cluster analysis and principal component analysis, fruit length/fruit width, fruit width, fruit length, pedicel length, and fruit skin color were the major discriminating characters, indicating that fruit characters had more influence on clustering than other characters did. Data based on the analysis of phenotypic characters showed that fruit characters played important roles in assessing the genetic diversity among L. cylindrica.

Bentazon is usually used in weed control for rice and peanut crops. If the growth of rice, cv. TNG67, seedlings was affected and how the physiological response was influenced by bentazon, especially for the resistant- and the susceptible-lines among Japonica- and Indica-type rice, were investigated. According to the dose-response to bentazon of five growth characters including plant height, shoot fresh weight, total chlorophyll, chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b of TNG67 seedlings at the V3 stage, the effective concentration of leaf-applied bentazon causing 50% reduction of response (EC50) was determined. And further study on the physiological resistant mechanism existed in bentazon-resistant and -susceptible lines of rice under this concentration of bentazon was conducted. As a result of screening the bentazon-resistant and —susceptible lines of rice, lines M202 and FSK are referred to resistant- and susceptible-line, respectively, among Japonica-type rice, as well as the TCSW1 and IR36 are referred to resistant- and susceptible-line among Indica-type, respectively. The bentazon-resistant line, M202, and TNG67 were suffered from little or a slight visible injury, photosynthesis inhibition and accumulation of MDA after bentazon application compared to other lines. Further analysis of the physiological mechanism of resistance for the bentazon-resistant and -susceptible lines among Japonica- and Indica-type rice was conducted. Experimental results indicate that the resistant line of Japonica-type, M202 and TNG67, absorbed more 14C-bentazon, but most of 14C-isotopes absorbed either accumulated in bentazon-treated leaf or translocated out of the treated leaf to older leaves subsequently. It is also found that the phytotoxicity resulted from residual bentazon and its metabolite was slight in these two rice lines. The hydroxybentazon (bentazon-6-OH) could be detected in the bentazon-resistant rice lines, M202, but not in other rice lines, indicating that M202 and TNG67, especially for the former line had stronger ability to metabolite more bentazon. For the bentazon-susceptible lines, FSK and IR36, which absorbed less 14C-bentazon during treatment but most of the 14C-isotopes absorbed translocated out of treated leaf and accumulated in young leaves subsequently. More accumulation of bentazon at the younger leaf might result in death of rice seedlings. In addition, more residual bentazon and stronger phytotoxicity were also confirmed in these two bentazon-susceptible lines. And less polar metabolite was obtained. This result indicates that the bentazon-sensitivity of FSK and IR36 were due mainly to the lower ability of bentazon metabolism. Reviewing the experimental results of this study, it suggested that the bentazon-resistant mechanism existed in resistant lines, M202 and TNG67, is primarily result from the stronger metabolism of bentazon, especially the generation of bentazon-6-OH for the line M202. Besides, that the most of absorbed bentazon translocated to older leaves and/or deposited at the site of bentazon application also involved in the resistance mechanism.

Abstract In the last two decades, a great number of lines in Hylocereus were introduced into Taiwan including lines in H. undatus, H. polyrhizus, and H. costaricensis. The most distinct character among H. undatus, H. polyrhizus, and H. costaricensis are their flesh color, white, purple and dark red, respectively. Due to interspecific and intergeneric hybridization, the Hylocereus collection in Taiwan is very diverse. The objective of this study was to analyze the genetic relationship among 76 Hylocereus, 1 Selenicereus, and 1 intergeneric line between Hylocereus and Selenicereus through RAPD and morphological characters. In the RAPD analysis, 39 selected primers generated 181 (45.5%) reproducible polymorphic and 217 (54.5%) monomorphic bands. The dendrogram generated by cluster analysis based on 181 polymorphic bands resembled the morphological classification. At similarity coefficient 0.58, the Hylocereus genera were diverted into three main groups and one individual line. The morphological characters of the three groups resembled H. undatus, H. polyrhizus, H. costaricensis, respectively. However, some of the lines within each group were observed with some specific morphological characters and species-specific PCR products that belonged to another group. These lines were highly suspected to be the offspring of interspecific hybrids. The similarity coefficient between S. megalanthus and Hylocereus was 0.40. Such high similarity might be the molecular indication of low incongruity while doing intergeneric cross. Moreover, generic specific PCR products were identified and could be used to trace for the genetic background of some special lines in the collection.

This study mainly explores the relationships among restaurant waiting lines, perceived justice, customer’s reactions to waiting, and customer satisfaction. In addition, the study examines the relationship between perceived justice and customer satisfaction, which is mediated by customers’ reactions to waiting. Validity and reliability analyses are applied to examine the accuracy and consistence of a self-administrated survey. Student’s t tests are used to examine if two different types of waiting lines significantly affect customers’ perceived justice (i.e., distributive, procedural, and interactional justices). In addition, this study conducts regression analyses to explore the relationships among perceived justice, customer’s reactions to waiting, and customer satisfaction. The results show that distributive justice is not significantly affected by waiting lines. Customers in single line perceive better procedural and interactional justice than those in multiple lines. Customers’ reactions to waiting are significantly affected by distributive, procedural, and interactional justice. Customer satisfaction is significantly affected by distributive justice, interactional justice, and customers’ reactions to waiting. However, customers’ reactions to waiting does not play a significant role of mediator between perceived justice and customer satisfaction.

Taiwan is an island country. There are very few resources from nature mother, all people’s livelihood are all rely on inbound trade, and all products manufactured here would need great transport functionalities to reach worldwide buyers. Therefore by means of ocean transportation has become substantially import, ocean transport has covered the criteria of long hall, safety, mass payload and economical in costs. Even though with massive undertaken aviation transportation upon, ocean transportation is still the main mode by all means most important in Taiwan outbound trade. Carrier, who offered transportation by sea/water, mainly composed by ocean freight forwarders and container shipping lines. For a long time, these two entities are having very sensational relationship with each other; they are switching between customer relationship, collaboration partners, or even friendly competitors. In nowadays, ocean transportation is a mature market, taking part of the rapidly changing global situation, connecting with economical resection in Q3 2008, the old scheme in win-win situation between ocean freight forwarders and container shipping lines has become a hard battle in fighting for shippers. Neverthless, the competition between these two, has benefited in cost down issue also improved in service standard. Therefore it is a very important decision in how to select between ocean freight forwarders and container shipping lines with important key element of service factors in this research. All the researchs in the past, have only reached individually for ocean freight forwarders and container shipping lines, has not covered further dept for key elements or the connections between key influential factors. So this research has quoted from Fuzzy Delphi method to discuss the importance of key attributes, also quoted the decision making and trial evaluation laboratory, DEMATEL, to analyze the consequence between key influential factors. Recent media reports have warned that carambola is a fruit with a high oxalic acid content. People who consume large amounts of carambola may risk having hyperoxaluria and developing kidney stones. Consequently, the carambola production has shrunk over the last ten years. In this study, fruit of carambola varieties were analyzed in order to find which would be most suitable for breeding lower oxalic acid carambola and thereby reduce any consumer worries. ‘Jing Long’, ‘747’, ‘Cheng Chwei’ and ’V8’ seedlings were cultivated in Lin’s Orchard in Taichung, Taiwan. Flower morphology, fruit quality, titratable acidity and oxalic acid content were investigated. Carambola flower morphology were divided into long-style type and short-style type. The content of oxalic acid in carambola fruit had significant correlation with titratable acidity. Therefore, titratable acidity can be used as an index for oxalic acid levels in carambola. Fruit quality, titratable acidity and oxalic acid content may be effected by climate factors such as temperature. Analysis showed a total of 24 seedlings contained less than 0.20% oxalic acid content and more than 8.3 ° Brix total soluble solid. From this group, five seedlings had acceptable size and average TSS, but lower oxalic acid content; therefore, showing great potential for being developed into low oxalic acid new varieties of carambola. The leaves of tart and sweet carambola were assayed for oxalic acid content and glycolate oxidase activity. Results indicated that as the fruit of both kinds of carambola matured, the oxalic acid tended to decrease. However, regardless of maturity, the oxalic acid content in tart carambola was always higher than in sweet carambola. Glycolate oxidase activity in leaf and fruit of tart carambola was also higher than in sweet carambola.

In recent years, due to changes in the industrial structure of the shipping industry, shipping companies have begun to build Mega Container Ships and have started the trend on renewing and reorganizing alliances. Carriers seek economies of scale in order to reduce their overall operating costs, as a result, shipping companies are heading towards large-scale, automated development to be economically viable and to meet the needs of the shipping industry. At the same time, be it shipping companies, port operators, warehouses or middleman contractors to mid-stream companies and inland transport operators, everyone will experience the impact and the effects of ship enlargement and market consolidations. The main purpose of this research paper is to further explore the impact of ship enlargement and industrial restructuring among container shipping lines toward the operations of freight forwarders through literature review and industrial development data collection, then identifying key operational impacts, and then using a first-stage survey done by professionals to confirm the principle of the structure. Next, using descriptive statistics to analyze the arithmetic mean, geometric mean and standard deviation, and then removing the bias through the Similarity Aggregation Method (SAM) to achieve and integrate all expert opinions objectively, and finally, using the Centre-of-gravity method and a Deffuzifier to arrange each principle based on the statistical analysis results. The research results show that the top five operational impacts of the ship enlargement and industrial restructuring are: The pressure for forwarders to obtain more cargo increases; Forwarders must pay more attention to the obligations and the rights to claim for loss of goods; Forwarders must be more initiative to keep informed of shipping companies’ operational changes adjustments; Forwarders must pay more attention to risk management issues; and Forwarders must respond more quickly to changes in the vendor’s decisions." Abstract of Thesis: The passage of time has brought changes in consumption patterns in Taiwan. Theperiod of rational consumption in which quality, functionality and price were exphasized has given way to a more feeling-oriented emphasis on brand, design and image, which, in turn, shows signs of giving way to an exphasis on fulfillment, satisfaction and pleasure. In view of this, if the producer wants to establishbrand loyalty among his customers and gain competitive advantage, the only wayto do this is by following the trend toward stressing consumer needs and consumersatifaction. In this context, Taiwan''s economic development has give leisureactivities increasing prominence and lent impoitance to the quantity and quality of athletic equipment used in so many of these activities. Based on this, the present study explores brand loyalty toward athletic shoes, choosing the Hua Lienfor exploration, in hopes of providing a useful reference for those who market leisure products. What is brand loyalty? this sutdy defines brand loyalty as an attitude involvingpreference among brands, this preference being affected by the results of previouspurchase behavior. Using this deinition as a basis, and synthesizing the results ofbrand-loyalty research bye chinese and foreign scholars, we extract four sets of factors that can affect brand loyalty. This research project is designed around expirical study of these for factors, which are consumer characterisitic, purchase situation, product characteristics and market structure. Results of the empirical study and analysis are as follows:1.consumer characteristics: Analysis of demographic variables showed a correlation between brand loyalty and head of household''s occupation. Lifestylle variable analysisi showed a correlation between brand loyalty and high stress on fashion, quality and price.2.Product situation:Correlations between level of brand loyalty and twopruchase-situation factors, length of time between purchases and number of brands owned, were discovered.3.Product characterisitics:Analysis of poduct attributes showed a correlation between brand loyalty and perceived-risk factors, "functional risk,""social risk,"and"time-related risk"4.Market structure: some correlation was discovered between brand loyalty andconsumer''s regard for print-media ads and television ads. Additionally, variation in acceptable price correlated with variation in brand loyalty. These conclusions suggestions concerning show to use the factors that affect brand loyalty in marketing programs. Hopefully producers attemption to create brand loyalty among their customers will find this study useful for that purpose.

Summary The purpose of this study was to determinate genetic variation and diversity in 72 two-rowed barley (Hordeum vulgare L. ssp. distichum) varieties (lines) with tolerance to high temperature using agronomic characters and RAPD markers. Results were summarized as follows: 1.According to the analysis of agronomic characters of 72 two-rowed barley varieties (lines), the CV of growing period and 100-kernel weight was smaller, but that of spike weight and plant weight was larger. 2.The days to heading was negatively and significantly associated with spike length, spike weight, no. of grains per spike, weight of grain per spike, and percentage of seed-setting. It is indicated that the longer the days to heading, the worse the seed-setting. 3.Based on the factor analysis, most of genetic variations among genotypes were found to be attributed to five factors, which accounted for the correlations among agronomic characters. 4.The cluster analysis of Ward’s minimum variance method based on 14 agronomic characters was conducted. When the intercept of semi-partial R2 was greater than 0.1, 72 two-rowed barley accessions were divided into three groups. Ethiopia 464 was shown to be the most distant accessions from the others. 5.In the RAPD analysis ten out of 100 Operon random primers were selected (10%). Amplification with selected 10 random primers generated 68 bands, of which 58 bands were polymorphic (85%). Dendrogram generated by UPGMA cluster analysis based on the Jaccard’s similarity coefficient. When the intercept of genetic similarity was 0.70, 72 two-rowed barley accessions were divided into nine groups. The largest group was found with those varieties (lines) developed in Taiwan. Chili Cheuallier chui-tian Self (A) was shown to be the most distant varieties (lines) from the others. 6.Comparison of both dendrograms revealed that the divided groups were different between the clustering obtained with agronomic characters and RAPD. But near varieties (lines) were clustered into same group.

Along with the improved living standard, there is no doubt that people are paying more and more attention to their quality of recreation and entertainment. In the age of awakening of consumer awareness, when the consumer choose ways to satisfy their different needs, they not only pursue good product quality, but also pay more and more attention to the process of providing quality of service. The baseball is the country ball and the first professional sport in Taiwan. In the recent five years, the total revenue of sport service industry increases year by year, and the consumer expenditure on “spectator sport” reaches 4.5 billion NT dollars. Chinese professional baseball league (CPBL) belongs to the spectator sport of service industry and mainly provides the services for watching the baseball game. The operation of a professional baseball team depends on that baseball fans go to watch the baseball game at the field. In order to attract the baseball fans to go to watch the baseball game at the field, the critical factors includes the quality of service (QoS), marketing strategy, satisfaction and loyalty of the professional baseball team. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the difference and relation of interaction which the UNILIONS fans feel to the QoS, marketing strategy, satisfaction and loyalty of UNILIONS professional baseball team. The subjects of this study are the baseball fans who watched the baseball game at the field and who watched the baseball game in Tainan municipal baseball stadium. The data analysis is performed with regression analysis and analysis of variance. In the results, there are significant differences with different ages and education levels in QoS. There are significant differences with different genders, ages and vocations in marketing strategy and satisfaction. QoS positively influences marketing strategy, satisfaction and loyalty. Marketing strategy also positively influences satisfaction and loyalty. Satisfaction positively influences the loyalty too. This research provides the results as the reference for the study and correlated industry in the future.

ABSTRACT With the rapid development of non-profit organizations in recent years, many people have woken up to the necessity for the concept of ‘enterprization’ within non-profit organizations. This research study attempts to investigate different models of business operations and management, and subsequently adopt them in the domains of non-profit organizational operations and management. The structure of this study presents itself with organizational climate, organizational identification, organizational effectiveness and personal background as independent variables, along with the experience of non-profit organizational administration and practices. It aims to explore 1.The relationship between organizational climate and organizational identification. 2.The relationship between personal background and organizational identification. 3.The relationship between organizational identification and organizational effectiveness. 4.The relationship between organizational climate and organizational effectiveness. 5.The relationship between personal background and organizational effectiveness. In this study, questionnaire sampling was purposefully chosen from The Lions Clubs International, in Taiwan of the non-profit organization. The valid sample size was 190. Through the process of descriptive statistical analysis, analysis of correlation and test of significance,one-way factor analysis of variance, independent-sample T test, reliability test, the research findings suggest that: 1.There was a significant correlation between each dimension of organizational climate and organizational identification. 2.There was a significant correlation between each dimension of organizational identification and organizational effectiveness. 3.There was a significant correlation between each dimension of organizational climate and organizational effectiveness. 4.There was no correlation between age group and organizational identification. However, there was negative correlation between age group and organizational effectiveness. The older the individual, the lower the organizational effectiveness. 5.There was a significant correlation between the length of an individual’s working experience and organizational identification; the longer the individual, the greater the organizational identification. Nevertheless, there was no correlation between the length of an individual’s working experience and organizational effectiveness. 6.There was a significant difference between organizational identification and the opposite sex; that is, the male organizational identification outnumbers the female. But, there was no significant difference between sex and organizational effectiveness. 7.There was no significant difference not only between status and organizational identification but also between status and organizational effectiveness. 8.There was no significant difference between educational background and organizational identification. Nevertheless, there was a significant difference between educational background and organizational effectiveness; that is, the higher the educational background, the more the organizational effectiveness. 9.There was no significant difference not only between individual’s career and organizational identification but also between individual’s career and organizational effectiveness. Key word : organizational climate organizational identification organizational effectiveness non-profit organizational.
