Depuis les années 70, les préparations enzymatiques sont des auxiliaires technologiques d'origine biologique de plus en plus appréciées pour l'aide qu'elles apportent dans les différentes étapes de la vinification (Débourbage, pressurage, macération, filtration et stabilisation microbiologique). Les activités utilisables en œnologie sont décrites par le règlement européen 1493/1999 et les résolutions œnologiques 11–18/2004 de l'OIV. A ce jour, les protéases ne font pas partie des activités enzymatiques autorisées car jugées inefficaces dans le milieu hostile qu'est le vin. Plus récemment, il a été démontré que l'utilisation d'une aspergillopepsines couplée de la flash pasteurisation permettait l'hydrolyse complète des protéines thermo-instables des vins blancs à l'échelle pilote et industrielle. L'objectif de ce travail est d'explorer de nouvelles applications œnologiques à l'utilisation de protéases. Pour cela, 4 protéases industrielles ont été testées sur l'amélioration de la filtrabilité des vins et l'élevage sur lies d'un vin rouge et un vin blanc. Ce travail a permis de mettre en évidence que l'utilisation de protéase pouvait améliorer sensiblement la filtrabilité des vins. L'amélioration observée est plus importante avec un test de filtrabilité (Vmax sur membrane 0.45 μm) qu'en filtration tangentielle (membrane céramique 0.2 μm). Enfin, en l'absence de flash pasteurisation les protéases ne semblent pas avoir d'effet sur la filtrabilité ou l'élevage sur lies des vins. Вульварная интраэпителиальная неоплазия (vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, VIN) – неинвазивное предраковое поражение вульвы, которое встречается у 50–70% пациенток, страдающих плоскоклеточным раком вульвы. До недавнего времени радикальные хирургические методы были стандартом лечения VIN, однако, учитывая психофизиологические осложнения, связанные с удалением обширных зон поражения и невозможностью вести нормальный образ жизни, с конца ХХ века осуществлялся поиск менее агрессивных методов лечения. Фотодинамическая терапия (ФДТ) – эффективный и безопасный вид лечения предрака вульвы с благоприятными результатами, в том числе косметическими у женщин репродуктивного возраста. Методы. В статье представлены данные о классификации, этиологии и патогенезе, методах диагностики и видах лечения VIN, результаты исследований, посвященных применению ФДТ при лечении VIN, и собственные клинические наблюдения. Результаты. Описаны 2 клинических случая пациенток с VIN различной степени тяжести, которым до ФДТ были проведены разнообразные виды терапии. После применения ФДТ наступило значительное улучшение. Фотодинамическое лечение не вызывает выраженного дискомфорта при применении, хорошо переносится и является практичным. Полученные результаты свидетельствуют о безопасности и удобстве применения данного метода лечения. Заключение. Преимущество ФДТ при VIN заключается в ее способности воздействовать на многоочаговое заболевание с минимальным разрушением тканей, сохранением анатомии вульвы и отличными результатами купирования симптомов. Благодаря этим свойствам ФДТ является одним из перспективных вариантов лечения VIN. Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) is a non-invasive precancerous lesion of the vulva, which occurs in 50–70% of patients suffering from squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. Until recently, radical surgical methods were the standard method of treating VIN, however, given the psycho-physical complications associated with the removal of extensive lesion areas and the inability to lead a normal lifestyle, since the end of the 20th century, less aggressive treatment methods have been sought. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an effective and safe type of treatment for vulvar cancer with favorable cosmetic results. Methods. The article presents data on the classification, etiology and pathogenesis, diagnostic methods and types of treatment of VIN, the results of studies on the use of PDT in the treatment of VIN, and our own clinical observations. Results. Two clinical cases of patients with VIN of varying severity who underwent various types of therapy before PDT were described. After the application of PDT, there was a significant improvement. Photodynamic treatment does not cause pronounced discomfort when used, is well tolerated and is practical. The results obtained indicate the safety and convenience of using this treatment method. Conclusions. The advantage of PDT for VIN lies in its ability to affect a multi-focal disease with minimal tissue destruction, preservation of the anatomy of the vulva and excellent results in relieving symptoms. Due to these properties, PDT is one of the promising treatment options for VIN.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Les protéines ou glycoprotéines de poids moléculaire compris entre 20.000 et 35.000 Da sont responsables de la casse protéique des vins blancs.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Leur séparation par électrophorèse capillaire permet de montrer que ce sont les fractions protéiques les moins thermostables qui sont les plus difficiles à éliminer par la bentonite.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">D'autre part, il est montré que, lors de l'élevage sur lies des vins blancs, on assiste à une amélioration de la stabilité protéique. Cette amélioration n'est pas dûe à une activité protéolytique des levures au cours de leur autolyse puisque les teneurs en protéines varient peu et que l'addition d'un autolysat à activité protéolytique a peu d'effet sur la stabilité protéique. En fait, l'amélioration de la stabilité protéique des vins blancs au cours de l'élevage sur lies apparaÎt essentiellement due à l'effet protecteur de macromolécules libérées à partir des parois levuriennes. En effet, l'addition de mannoprotéines à un vin permet d'augmenter sa stabilité protéique et par la même de diminuer la dose de bentonite nécessaire à sa stabilisation.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">L'addition d'écorces de levure ou de lies fraîches dans un milieu alcoolique entraîne une augmentation de la teneur en acides gras libres suivie d'une diminution progressive; les lies fraîches ne cèdent pratiquement pas d'acide palmitoléique, inhibiteur de l'activité malolactique.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">La teneur en acides gras libres augmente au cours de la macération des raisins rouges, mais elle est peu affectée par la macération préfermentaire des raisins blancs.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Par ailleurs, les teneurs des vins en acides gras libres varient en fonction du cépage.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">+++</p><p style="text-align: justify;">This work deals with the free latty acids (C12 to C18:3) content of different mediums; these substances seem to have an activity on the alcoholic and the malotactic fermentations.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">ln a first step we have studied the influence of the addition to the medium of yeast ghosts and fresh yeast cells (lees).</p><p style="text-align: justify;">We have also determined free fatty acids in red wines (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec) in function of the time of maceration (0 to 10 days) and in white wines (Semillon and Sauvignon blanc) in function of skin contact time (0 to 6 hours) and SO<sub>2</sub> which have been added, or not, to the medium belore skin contact.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The free fatty acids were extracted from 20 ml of wine by three times 10 ml of dichloromethane ; the organic phase was concentrated under vacuum to 1 ml. The extract was analysed by gas chromatography with a capillary CP WAX 57 column from Chrompack (10 m x 0,22 mm); the chromotograph was equiped with a spitless system injector.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The addition of yeast ghosts and fresh lees into an alcoholic medium causes a temporary increase of the free fatty acids followed by a constant decrease. However, the fresh lees do not give palmitoleic acid which is an inhibitor of the malolactic activity.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The time of maceration plays a positive part on the free fatty acids content of the wine; this is more important for the red wines than for the white ones.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The free fatty acids content of the wines changes according to the grape variety.</p>

La levure <em>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</em>, à partir du furfural, peut produire de l'alcool furfurylique. Cette réaction intervient naturellement au cours de la fermentation, la réduction du furfural par les «lies» est plus lente. Il est ainsi possible de différencier analytiquement, après 3 mois d'élevage, un vin fermenté en cuve puis élevé en barrique neuve de chêne, d'un vin ayant été logé en barriques neuves dès le début de la fermentation alcoolique.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">+++</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Some volatile compounds from oak casks (furfural, methyl-5-furfural, furfuryl alcohol, β-methyl- γ-octolactone) are analysed in wines by gaz liquid chromatography. Yeast <em>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</em> is able to produce furfuryl alcohol from furfural. This reaction naturaly occurs during alcoholic fermentation of wines in new oak-casks. Alter fermentation, reduction of furfural by the « lees » becomes slower. So, after 3 months of aging, it is possible to differenciate on analytical data, a wine fermented in tank and aged in new oak casks from a wine fermented and aged in new oak casks.</p>

The article presents the results of experimental research on the determination of the coefficient of reduction of the air flow rate, pressure losses and the necessary power consumption of the exhaust fan, depending on the rotation angle of the damper. The diagram and general view of the laboratory equipment for researching the operation modes of the intake damper, which is the part of the automatic ventilation system for the intake of contaminated air from livestock premises, is given. Its main element is an intake valve with servo drives. The damper is round-shaped and rotates around an axel that lies on its plane. Based on the results of the first stage of experimental studies of the ventilation system for the intake of polluted air, the dependences of the output air flow rate Vout, air consumption qout, the air flow rate reduction coefficient ι, the conditional area of the opening σout and the fan power consumption Ndamp on the input speed Vin, the angle of rotation of the damper β and the diameter were determined duct Dp. When the dampers are gradually opened by a given angle β(t), the inlet velocity Vin(t) increases from 11.42 m/s to 17.98 m/s, which is explained by the fact that the damper creates a certain pneumatic resistance and the air flow returns to in the opposite direction, while reducing the overall speed of the incoming air. At the outlet, the airflow velocity Vout(t) increases from 0.08 m/s to 17.83 m/s. Moments of opening of the damper occur within 1 s, and a significant increase in speed is observed, both at the inlet and at the outlet, due to the occurrence of turbulent motion. After opening the damper to a given angle, the speed decreases and stabilizes. According to the results of the second stage of experimental studies of the ventilation system for the intake of contaminated air, the algorithm for controlling the dampers depending on the ratio of gas concentrations was verified. The dependence of the power consumption of the fan N of the ventilation system for the intake of contaminated air on the length of the air duct between the L0 modules and the air consumption Qin was determined.

My considerations are typological in nature. A lie is a disingenuous assertion made to another person with the intent of deceiving the other person into believing both that the assertion is true and that the liar believes it to be true. This definition is morally neutral. It requires a further, moral judgment to determine whether a lie is a good or a bad thing, or whether, in specified circumstances, a lie is morally right or wrong. However, what if the truth is not only occasionally contaminated but lies are spread en masse in order to make the addressees question their ability to judge or to induce collective self-deception? Beginning with small-scale use of lies, related variants of dishonesty – especially large scale, propagandistic uses of lies – are conceptually characterized and evaluated. Lies can be systematically distinguished via their purposes.

Chaque année, la filière viti-vinicole génère d'importants volumes de sous-produits, dont les lies de vin, qui représentent 2 à 6 % du volume total de vin. Ces sous-produits sont principalement valorisés par distillation de l’éthanol et l’extraction de l’acide tartrique. Toutefois, l'intérêt croissant pour une valorisation plus diversifiée a conduit à de nombreuses études sur l'extraction de composés polyphénoliques, notamment à partir des lies de vin rouge. En revanche, les lies de vin blanc, bien que reconnues pour leur potentiel antioxydant dans l'élevage des vins blancs, ont reçu beaucoup moins d'attention, en raison de leur faible richesse en polyphénols et cette propriété des lies demeure donc sous-exploitée. Cette thèse étudie donc le potentiel de valorisation des lies de vin blanc à travers une approche innovante et éco-durable. Plus précisément, ce projet vise à développer et optimiser des procédés d’extraction et de fractionnement des lies de vin blanc guidés par la capacité antioxydante des extraits obtenus.Tout d’abord, l'influence de plusieurs procédés de séchage sur la préservation de l’activité antioxydante des lies a été étudiée. Pour cela, différentes matrices de lies ont été collectées et analysées afin d’évaluer la variabilité de leur composition en fonction de leur origine vinicole. Par la suite, des méthodes d'extraction durables, telles que l'extraction au CO₂ supercritique et à l'eau sous-critique, ont été comparées à des solvants conventionnels. Les extraits présentant la plus forte capacité antioxydante ont été obtenus par extraction à l'eau sous-critique. Ce procédé a ainsi été sélectionné et une étude d'optimisation, basée sur la méthodologie des surfaces de réponse, a été menée afin de déterminer les conditions opératoires optimales permettant de maximiser l'activité antioxydante des extraits.Dans un contexte de réduction des intrants œnologiques et notamment du dioxyde de soufre (SO₂), l’impact des extraits de lies non purifiés sur la prévention des phénomènes d’oxydation du vin a été ensuite étudié. Les résultats obtenus ont démontré que les extraits présentent des propriétés antioxydantes pertinentes et comparables à celles de produits commerciaux tels que les dérivés de levures. Toutefois, leur action antioxydante reste inférieure à celle du SO₂ et leur utilisation pourrait altérer les propriétés sensorielles du vin, influençant ainsi sa qualité finale. Dans le but de minimiser cet impact sensoriel, une étude de fractionnement par ultrafiltration a été réalisée. Afin d'évaluer l'impact des performances des procédés membranaires, des membranes d'ultrafiltration présentant différents seuils de coupure et soumises à divers paramètres opératoires ont été étudiées dans le but de concentrer la fraction antioxydante des extraits. Ce procédé a ainsi permis de concentrer leur capacité antioxydante d'un facteur 1,5. Par ailleurs, les résultats du fractionnement révèlent que la fraction antioxydante des extraits, corrélée au contenu en azote et en lipides des lies, est composée de molécules dont les poids moléculaires se situent entre 10 kDa et moins de 1 kDa.Le couplage de ces procédés, sans utilisation de solvants organiques, permet une extraction efficace et une concentration de composés à haute valeur ajoutée issus des lies de vin blanc. Ce travail contribue ainsi à améliorer la durabilité économique et environnementale de la gestion de ces résidus, tout en ouvrant des perspectives pour d'autres applications d'extraction au sein des distilleries<br>Each year, the wine industry produces significant volumes of by-products, including wine lees, which account for 2 to 6% of the total volume of wine produced. These by-products are mainly valorized through ethanol distillation and tartaric acid extraction. Over the past decade, the increasing interest in by-product valorization has led to numerous studies on the extraction of polyphenolic compounds from red wine lees. However, although white wine lees are well-recognized for their antioxidant potential during aging of white wines, they have received less attention due to their low polyphenol content, and this potential remains largely underexploited. Therefore, the objective of this study is to propose an eco-sustainable approach to valorizing white wine lees. Specifically, this project aimed to develop and optimize extraction and fractionation processes of white wine lees, guided by their antioxidant capacity.Initially, the influence of various drying processes on the preservation of the antioxidant activity of the lees was studied. To achieve this, different lees matrices were collected and analyzed to assess the variability in their composition depending on their winemaking origin. Then, sustainable extraction methods, such as supercritical CO₂ extraction and subcritical water extraction, were compared with conventional solvents. The extracts with the highest antioxidant capacity were obtained by subcritical water extraction. This process was selected and optimized using response surface methodology to determine the optimal operating conditions for maximizing the antioxidant activity of the extracts.In the context of oenological research focused on alternatives to sulfur dioxide (SO₂), the impact of the lees extracts on preventing wine oxidation was investigated. The extracts demonstrated antioxidant properties in wine, comparable to those of commercial products such as yeast derivatives. However, their antioxidant effectiveness remained lower to that of SO₂. Furthermore, their use could impact the sensory properties of the wine and its overall quality.In order to propose extracts that are more neutral in terms of sensory impact, a fractionation study using ultrafiltration was conducted. To evaluate the impact of membrane process performance, ultrafiltration membranes with different molecular weight cut-offs and with various operational conditions were studied to concentrate the antioxidant fraction of the extracts. This process allowed the antioxidant capacity to be concentrated by a factor of 1.5. Additionally, the fractionation results revealed that the antioxidant fraction of the extracts, correlated with the nitrogen and lipid content of the lees, consists of molecules with molecular weights ranging between 10-1 kDa.The combination of these processes, without the use of organic solvents, allows for the efficient extraction and concentration of high-value compounds from white wine lees. This study thus contributes to improving the economic and environmental sustainability of managing these residues, while also opening up perspectives for other extraction applications within distilleries

Les eaux-de-vie (EDV) de cognac sont issues de la distillation de vin blanc, qui croit dans une région délimitée en zones de crus. Selon le cru d’origine de leur vin, les EDV sont réputées typiques, sur des notions sensorielles. Ainsi, des analyses physico-chimiques et sensorielles ont été mises en œuvre en parallèle enfin de rechercher cette typicité supposée de cru dans des EDV nouvelles (juste après distillation) et dans des EDV après vieillissement en fût de chêne. Un travail de filiation des composés d’impact dans les vins a également été mené. Aucun composé spécifique de cru n’est ressorti des analyses et les différences à mettre en évidence sont ténues. L’effet cru a été prouvé seulement lors d’échantillonnages sélectifs et de techniques spécifiques. En effet, plusieurs facteurs, tels que la distillation, capable de modifier la composition aromatique des EDV et donc leur perception sensorielle, semblent supérieurs à l’effet cru et pourraient en masquer les typicités. De plus, les typicités de cru semblent évoluer au cours du temps, entre le vin, l’EDV nouvelle et l’EDV vieillie. En conclusion, l’effet cru semble faible comparé à d’autres facteurs, et pourrait être dû à divers mélanges possibles des mêmes molécules retrouvées dans tous les échantillons. Il s’agirait d’un équilibre aromatique entre les concentrations de ces molécules, avec certains composés éventuellement prépondérants dans la balance et d’autres plus ubiquitaires, qui permettrait d’exprimer les typicités sensorielles des échantillons, en fonction de leur cru d’origine<br>Cognac spirits are made from the distillation of white wine, growing in a region delimitated into cru areas. According to the cru of origin of their wine, spirits are assumed to be typical, in a sensorial way. Then, physico-chemical and sensorial analysis were carried out in parallel in order to search for this supposed typicality of cru, in freshly distilled spirits such as in spirits after aging in oak barrels. A work of filiation of impact compounds in the wines was also done. No cru-specific compound was found and differences to put in evidence are thin. The cru effect was apparent only with selective sampling and specific methodology. Actually, several factors, such as distillation, are able to modify the aromatic composition of spirits so their sensorial perception, and seem higher to the cru effect and could masked its typicality. Moreover, the cru typicality seems to evolve over the time, between wine, freshly distilled and aged spirits. To conclude, the cru effect seems weak compared to other factors. It may be caused by various possible mixes, of the same molecules found in all samples. It would be due to an aromatic equilibrium between the concentrations of these molecules, which allows the sensorial typicality of samples to be expressed, according to their cru of origin

La famille aromatique du végétal dans les vins rouges recouvre une large diversité de nuances. Nos travaux révèlent que celles-ci n’ont pas toujours de lien direct avec les composés connus (2-méthoxy-3-alkylpyrazines, alcools en C6). Aussi, après avoir été définis sensoriellement, les déterminants moléculaires de cette famille d’odeurs ont été recherchés en s’appuyant, à partir de vins représentatifs, sur différentes techniques de fractionnement (CLHP, distillation sous vide) puis MDCPG-O-SM. Une première origine de ces nuances a été développée, celle associée à la maturité des raisins. La présence du 1,8-cinéole (eucalyptol), avec des notes « vertes », selon une origine variétale en lien avec la maturité des raisins a pu être attestée dans les vins de Cabernet Sauvignon. La capacité d’un cépage à en produire des quantités significatives (Fer Servadou) ainsi qu’une origine exogène associée à la présence d’une espèce d’armoise au vignoble (Artemisia verlotiorum) sont aussi établis. Une autre origine d’apparition des nuances végétales a été considérée : le pressurage des marcs. Cette étude montre le lien étroit entre la catégorie aromatique des vins de presse et la famille du végétal. En outre, elle révèle la présence de divers marqueurs odoriférants, en particulier le (Z)-4-heptenol dont l’évolution est corrélée au niveau de pression et la contribution sensorielle établie, à l’inverse de la plupart des alcools en C6 ; de même qu’elle suggère l’implication de plusieurs composés carbonylés à l’odeur caractéristique des vins de presse. L’influence des paramètres technologiques (inertage, pression, SO2, FML) est aussi précisée. La présence du salicylate de méthyle comme marqueur de défense de la plante contre plusieurs maladies cryptogamiques (mildiou, black rot, esca) et comme contributeur à l’odeur végétale de certains vins rouges a enfin pu être démontrée<br>The green aromas family includes in red wines a large diversity of nuances. First, this study revealed that these nuances are not directly related to known compounds (e.g. 2-méthoxy-3-alkylpyrazines, C6 alcohols). After a sensory definition, the molecular determinants of these aroma nuances were investigated based on fractionation strategies including HPLC and vacuum distillation then MDGC-O-MS. A first source of nuances associated with grapes ripeness was developed. The presence of 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) with a varietal origin was evidenced in Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The ability of a grape variety to produce significant amounts (Fer Servadou) and an exogenous origin associated with the presence of Artemisia species in vineyards (Artemisia verlotiorum) were also highlighted. Another origin, related to the pressing of grape marc was then considered. This study shown the connection between the aromatic category of press wines and the green aromas. Furthermore, it revealed the presence of odoriferous molecules including (Z)-4-heptenol, with a sensory contribution, associated to the increase of pressure in the press tank, but not for the majority of C6 alcohols. It also suggested the involvement of several carbonyl compounds in the characteristic odor of press wines. The influence of technological parameters (without oxygen, pressure, SO2, malolactic fermentation) was also specified. Finally, this study revealed the presence of methyl salicylate as a plant defense marker against several fungal diseases (downy mildew, black rot, esca) and as a contributor to fresh green aromas of certain red wines

Celui-ci valorise l’autonomie et donc les choix électifs, son identité est plurielle, et il vit dans des conditions d’insécurité croissante. On montre tout d’abord que l’amitié est valorisée en tant que choix électif et fait l’objet de normes sociales fortes. Ensuite, la multiplication des facettes de l’identité conduit au déclin de l’amitié unique, inaltérable, remplacée par des relations n’engageant qu’une part de la personnalité, parfois de façon temporaire. Par ailleurs, hors les relations d'amitié, un sentiment amical diffus a tendance à imprégner, au moins faiblement, toutes les relations interpersonnelles. Les représentations ont évolué moins vite que les pratiques. This individual values autonomy and hence elective choices ; his/her identity is multifaceted and s/he lives in an increasingly insecure environment. We first show that friendship is valued inasmuch as it is an elective choice and is shaped by strong social norms. Second, the multifaceted identity leads to the decline of the model of the unique, unalterable friendship in favour of relationships that involve only part of one’s personal identity, sometimes only in a temporary fashion. Aside from actual friendships, a friendly feeling tends to be attached, albeit possibly in a very light form, to any interpersonal relationship. Representations evolved more slowly than actual practices. Finally, friends contribute to one’s affective security and bring about recognition. However, it is only a palliative for lack ofother social or affective recognition

Ainsi, la pratique clinique et l'exploration theorique qui l'a accompagnee, amenent a considerer la vie avec le vih comme une succession de traumatismes. La double effraction psychique et physique, l'atteinte narcissique, le vecu de l'innommable, le sentiment d'abandon, caracterisent la situation de la personne vivant avec le vih. L'utilisation par les individus concernes de la shoah comme metaphore des experience de vie avec le vih donne une mesure a la souffrance qu'elle engendre. L'etat de nevrose traumatique engendre par l'atteinte par le vih introduit au sein du fonctionnement psychique, la violence. La souffrance, la perturbation des reperes, l'attaque des bases narcissiques qui caracterisent la vie avec le vih, permettent de comprendre le lien entre le traumatisme et la violence. A un premier niveau, la violence est une force de vie dont le but premier est de contre-carrer la souffrance, d'eviter la mort psychique : ceci correspond a ce qui a ete appele la violence du traumatisme. The clinic practice and the theoriretic research, lead us to analyse "life with hiv" like a succession of taumatisms. People who are living with hiv experience psychics and physics attacks, narcissistics wounds, unnamables experiences, the feeling of abandonment. The use of the shoah as a metaphor to describe life with hiv, shows how important the suffering is. Traumatic neurosis resulting from the attacks of iliness, cause violence. Psychic suffering, the landmarks's disorders, the attacks of the narcissism, which caracterize the life with hiv, can explain the link between traumatism and violence. First, the violence is a living force which aim is the defence against the suffering, against the psychic death : it has been called the violence of the traumatisms. Second, the violence of the traumatisms reactivates the "fondamental violence". As we notice, that putting into words the traumatisms is a relief, that a containing and esthetic relationship assists the decrease of the violence, we believe that these points should be integrated into the reflections on the psychologic support for the hiv infected patients

Steven Kellogg, Posy Simmonds and Edward Gorey. The illustrators reinterpret the
cautionary tale, Matilda, who told lies and was burned to death by Hilaire Belloc (1908). Not
only does this study present a brief historical overview of the genre but it also interrogates the
manner in which different styles of illustration underscore the pedagogical didactic narrative.
The visual interpretations of these three illustrators are compared in order to establish
whether or not they have succeeded in sustaining the subversive or grotesque elements of this
cautionary tale. Belloc’s narrative as well as the illustrations are analysed in terms of gender.
I discuss my own version of Belloc’s cautionary tale as a parody of this tale that serves to
exaggerate the sometimes overt gendering of girl characters in cautionary tales.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie skripsie behels die visuele analise van drie verskillende prenteboeke, onderskeidelik
geillustreer deur Steven Kellogg, Posy Simmonds en Edward Gorey. Al drie illustreerders

to death deur Hilaire Belloc. Die skripsie bied nie net ʼn geskiedkundige oorsig oor die genre
nie, maar ondersoek die manier waarop verskillende illustrasie-style die opvoedkundige,
didaktiese narratief onderstreep. Die illustreerders se prenteboeke word vergelyk en daar
word vasgestel of hulle daarin geslaag het om die subversiewe en selfs groteske elemente in
hierdie vermaan-verhaal te behou. Belloc se narratief en die illustrasie daarvan is ook in
terme van gender geanaliseer. Ek bespreek my eie weergawe van Belloc se vermaan-verhaal,
wat ek aanbied as ʼn parodie om die soms duidelike “gendering” van meisie-karakters in
vermaan-verhale te oordryf.

Le Cognac est une matrice complexe et évolutive du fait de son processus d’élaboration. L’objectif de ces travaux de recherche est de progresser dans la connaissance des composés volatils qui composent les eaux-de-vie de Cognac vieillies en fût de chêne, en se penchant plus particulièrement sur les spécificités des eaux-de-vie dont les vins ont été distillés avec leurs lies.Après avoir évalué sensoriellement l’impact de la distillation avec lies dans des eaux-de-vie de plusieurs millésimes, les déterminants moléculaires des zones odorantes d’intérêt ont été recherchés en s’appuyant sur diverses techniques de fractionnement (distillation sous vide, CLHP, chromatographie gazeuse mono et bidimensionnelle) couplées à des méthodes analytiques et sensorielles de caractérisation (olfactométrie, spectrométrie de masse). Le couplage de ces approches a permis de mettre en lumière des zones odorantes rappelant des notes de vieillissement associées aux descripteurs de fruit frais, fruit cuit, bois exotique, balsamique et épicé. Ainsi, l’impact du vieillissement et de la distillation avec lies a été étudié pour de multiples familles chimiques telles que les arômes fermentaires, les diethyl acétals et les terpènes ainsi que de nombreux autres composés comme la 3-méthyl-2,4-nonanedione. Les seuils de détection olfactifs de chaque composé ont été déterminés afin d’évaluer leurs impacts sensoriels directs au sein de la matrice. De plus des phénomènes d’interactions perceptives originaux impliquant des composés volatils appartenant à différentes familles chimiques ont été mis en évidence dans ces travaux<br>Cognac is a complex and evolving matrix due to its production process. The objective of this research was to progress in the knowledge of the volatile compounds involved in Cognac eaux-de-vie aged in oak casks, focusing in particular on the specificities of eaux-de-vie whose wines were distilled with their lees.After the evaluation of the sensory impact of the distillation with lees in eaux-de-vie of several vintages, the molecular determinants associated to the odor zones of interest were investigated using various fractionation techniques (vacuum distillation, HPLC, mono and bidimensional gas chromatography) coupled to sensory and analytical methods of characterization (olfactometry, mass spectrometry). The coupling of these approaches has brought to highlight odorous zones reminiscent of aging notes such as fresh fruit, cooked fruit, exotic wood, balsamic and spicy. Thus, Cognac aging impact and modality of wine distillation with lees have been studied for multiple chemical families such as fermentative aromas, diethyl acetals and terpenes as well as many other compounds such as 3-methyl-2,4-nonanedione. The olfactory detection thresholds of each compound we determined in order to evaluate their direct sensory impacts within the matrix. In addition, original perceptual interactions phenomenon involving volatile compounds belonging to different chemical families have been highlighted in this work

The integer first order digital differentiators are obtained by the stable inversion of the weighted sum of Simpson integration rule and the trapezoidal integration rule. The distinguishing point of the proposed DFOD lies in an additional tuning knob to compromise the high frequency approximation accuracy.

Les autorités fédérale, provinciales et territoriales du Canada, dont la Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec, ont lancé en juin 2021 un avis de consultation et appel aux observations en lien avec le document d’orientation à l’intention des services de police fédéraux, provinciaux, régionaux et municipaux visant à définir les obligations de ces dernières en matière de protection de la vie privée relativement à l’utilisation de la technologie de reconnaissance faciale (RF), afin de garantir que toute utilisation de celle-ci ne contrevient pas à la loi, limite les risques d’atteinte à la vie privée et respecte le droit à la vie privée. Dans le cadre de cet avis de consultation et appel aux observations, trois chercheuses et chercheurs de l'OBVIA ont apporté des observations pour aider à l'amélioration du document. Ils considèrent en particulier que l'utilisation de la reconnaissance faciale par les services de police doit faire l'objet d'un meilleur encadrement légal et éthique au-delà du respect des lois de protection des renseignements personnels qu'ils estiment insuffisantes pour faire face aux nombreux enjeux sociaux. Ils estiment aussi que les services de police doivent être formés aux enjeux liés notamment aux risques d'erreur, biais, discrimination et surveillance de masse. Ils soulignent enfin le fait que l’atteinte à la vie privée s’accompagne ici le plus souvent de l’atteinte à d’autres droits fondamentaux. Ils recommandent l'élaboration d'un référentiel de valeurs visant à éclairer les interventions en matière de sécurité publique et mieux soutenir la réflexion des professionnels. Ces recommandations ont été déposées conjointement par l'Observatoire international sur les impacts sociétaux de l'IA et du numérique (OBVIA) et la Chaire de recherche sur l’IA responsable à l’échelle mondiale auprès du Commissariat à la protection de la vie privée du Canada et de la Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

This article analyses the conversations on Twitter related to the World Health Organization (WHO). We collect the text of the discussions as well as the metadata associated with each tweet. Our dataset is exhaustive as it includes all the tweets produced by WHO. Likes, retweets, and replies capture the level of engagement. The goal is to quantify the balance of likes, retweets, and replies, also known as “ratios”, and study their dynamics as proxy for the collective engagement in response to WHO’s communications. Our results demonstrate a higher engagement of the public receiving the information pushed by WHO. This engagement translates into a more balanced reaction with still a more likely favorable opinion vis-à-vis WHO, but with also more challenges. This protocol based on quantitative measures to serve as a proxy to the legitimacy concept seems to hold its promises. In particular, we also perform a simple sentiment analysis to check the robustness of our conclusions.

La demande croissante à laquelle font face les systèmes de santé combinée à la rareté des ressources disponibles rend impératif leur optimisation pour effectuer des choix éclairés. Le concept d’année de vie ajustée par la qualité (AVAQ) s’inscrit dans ce cadre et utilise des instruments de mesure de qualité de vie reliée à la santé (QVRS), parmi lesquels des instruments génériques. Cependant, de nombreuses différences peuvent être observées entre ces instruments. Le constat général est que quasiment tous les instruments génériques contiennent une ou plusieurs dimensions liées à la santé physique (p. ex. incapacité, inconfort, douleur) au détriment d'autres dimensions d’ordre mentales ou sociales. Afin de pallier cette limite, un nouvel instrument a été créé, son but étant d’être plus complet et plus équilibré dans la mesure de la qualité de vie reliée à la santé globale (QVRS-G). Ce rapport présente les étapes clés de la création de cet instrument ainsi que les résultats obtenus dans la mesure de la QVRS-G des québécois au printemps 2021. Trichloroethylene (TCE) releases from leaks and spills next to a large government building occurred over several decades with the most recent event occurring 20 years ago. In response to a perceived conventional vapor intrusion (VI) issue a sub-slab depressurization system (SSDS) was installed 6 years ago. The SSDS is operating within design limits and has achieved building TCE vapor concentration reductions. However, subsequent periodic TCE vapor spikes based on daily HAPSITE™ measurements indicate additional source(s). Two rounds of smoke tests conducted in 2017 and 2018 involved introduction of smoke into a sanitary sewer and storm drain manholes located on effluent lines coming from the building until smoke was observed exiting system vents on the roof. Smoke testing revealed many leaks in both the storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems within the building. Sleuthing of the VI source term using a portable HAPSITE™ indicate elevated vapor TCE levels correspond with observed smoke emanation from utility lines. Sleuthing activities also found building roof materials explain some of the elevated TCE levels on the 2nd floor. Installation of an external blower in the roof truss space has greatly reduced TCE levels. Preferential VI pathways and unexpected source terms may be overlooked mechanisms as compared to conventional VI.

In some instances, smoke odors were perceived but no leak or suspect pipe was identified suggesting the odor originates from an unidentified pipe located behind or enclosed in a wall. Sleuthing activities also found building roof materials explain some of the elevated TCE levels on the 2nd floor. A relationship was found between TCE concentrations in the roof truss area, plenum space above 2nd floor offices, and breathing zone of 2nd floor offices. Installation of an external blower in the roof truss space has greatly reduced TCE levels in the plenum and office spaces. Preferential VI pathways and unexpected source terms may be overlooked mechanisms as compared to conventional VI.

Combining use of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, a survey children completed via a mobile phone app, and ethnographic observations, children and adult researchers recorded locations, times of day, activities, and feelings. This paper brings into view the challenges that children in worst forms of child labour navigate before, after, and between work.

This report seeks to analyze the efforts among financial institutions to leverage the relationship between financial intermediation and remittance transfers. The impact of family remittances has been highlighted in the literature as an important one for development. A development impact is one that addresses issues relating to the distribution of wealth and overall improvements in the quality of people's lives. More recently, policy recommendations have stressed the importance of linking remittances to financial intermediation as a strategy to harness the development impact of such earnings. This paper attempts to identify emergent trends in the remittance and finance world that potentially point to a deepening connection between remittances and development vis-à-vis financial intermediation. It is a case study analysis of nine financial institutions, and focusing on three basic indicators: institutional ability to provide remittance transfers to its clients and community, to offer low cost remittance services, and to compliment transfer services with other financial services.
