Increasing our understanding of Earth’s biodiversity and responsibly stewarding its resources are among the most crucial scientific and social challenges of the new millennium. These challenges require fundamental new knowledge of the organization, evolution, functions, and interactions among millions of the planet’s organisms. Herein, we present a perspective on the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), a moonshot for biology that aims to sequence, catalog, and characterize the genomes of all of Earth’s eukaryotic biodiversity over a period of 10 years. Abstract:
This chapter discusses how idleness is one of the contradictory figures that weave through Jean-Jacques Rousseau's works. The problem of idleness pervades Rousseau's philosophical writings and dominates his autobiographical works. The chapter aims to trace the various paradoxes that inhabit the question for Rousseau and to explore why it engages him as political philosopher, moralist, and writer alike. After considering his anthropological ruminations on work, as well as his praise of labor, the chapter shows how Rousseau creates a radical esthetics of désoeuvrement (lack of occupation), the keystone of his program to valorize inactivity and validate subjectivity, which he also envisions as a return to origin. Rousseau thus develops a notion of idleness as decadence, a corruption of natural human energy and an evasion of patriotic duty.

In a scenario influenced by innovation and new technologies such as the internet of things (IoT) that have projected us towards industry 4.0, the digital revolution has involved the construction sector and the entire building process. This research activity aims to deepen the tools at the base of the design and management processes to an effective development and respect for the environment. The text will illustrate the example of redevelopment of an existing building in response to new market needs and in line with the circular economy vision. The redevelopment foresees the integrated development of the architectural building project and the management of the building during his entire life cycle. The innovation authors intend to achieve aims to combine building automation with the quality of life through management techniques that exploit the best use of space and control of the eco-system of the building and the services provided.

Abstract:
Project managers face complex challenges when planning project stages because contract durations and project costs are difficult to predict accurately. The purpose of this study is to investigate statistical tools and concepts that can be integrated in the second phase of the project life cycle: the planning stage. Furthermore, this study aims to compare the accuracy of multiple regression and artificial neural network models, as well as the application of simulation in construction models used in predicting project duration and cost. This paper will also discuss the industry's current estimation methods, the use of statistical approaches, simulation, and the relationship between the application statistical tools and project success. Thus, this review identifies the trending statistical tools used by scholars to develop regression and neural models to solve the complexity of cost and duration estimation. The findings indicate that although the industry needs more accurate predictions and estimating tools, and regardless of the investigations and advancements made with integrating statistical tools, implementing these statistical approaches is faced with barriers.

The policy of urban land regularization in Brazil has it legal basis expressed in the Estatuto da Cidade, Federal Law no. 11,481/2001. This norm contemplates a multidimensional understanding of the conditions necessary for the integration of illegal settlements into the formal city. It goes beyond the granting of land title, since it establishes that the urban, environmental and social dimensions are also taken into account in the regularization projects. Thus, quality of life and environmental quality aspects are expected to be present in the regulated areas, this is not verified by official

Industrial development releases plenty of oil/dyes wastes to water making unsafe the environment to live in. This project aims to solve the problems associated with environmental pollution and discharge of industrial effluents to water bodies. This is very important in the global scenario as water is the basis of life. The problem of leaking oil and dyes in water bodies is one of the biggest problems that cause instability in the ecosystem since, it has a negative impact on marine creatures that live in these water bodies. In addition, this damage is transmitted to humans in an indirect way. T

The latest gas turbine development being undertaken by the Royal Navy is the ACL technology demonstrator programme. The aim of the project is to design and demonstrate a GTA of around 2MW that will have reduced whole life costs when compared to a conventional diesel generator. The project is being managed for the MoD by the Marine Propulsion Systems IPT and being procured through the prime contractor - Turbomeca. The prime contract was awarded in December 2000 and is scheduled to run for five years. This paper describes the main aims and objectives of the project. The paper also gives a detail

In this article, the evaluation process will focus on the final stage of the product's life - decommissioning and reintegration into the environment. At present, in order for products to be approved by consumers, who are increasingly selective about health and environmental protection, they need to send an appropriate message. The message for

This report describes a methodology for demand estimate through the improvement of load distribution factors in reinforced concrete flat-slab and T-beam bridges. The proposed distribution factors are supported on three-dimensional (3D) Finite Element (FE) analysis tools. The Conventional Load Rating (CLR) method currently in use by INDOT relies on a two-dimensional (2D) analysis based on beam theory. This approach may overestimate bridge demand as the result of neglecting the presence of parapets and sidewalks present in these bridges. The 3D behavior of a bridge and its response could be bett

In recent years, mission-oriented approaches have received growing interest in science, technology and innovation (STI) policies against the background of two developments. First, while so-called “horizontal” or “generic” approaches to research, technology and innovation policies have largely been successful in improving the general innovation performance or the rate of innovation, there are perceived limitations in terms of insufficiently addressing the direction of technological change and innovation. Second, “grand societal challenges” emerged on policy agendas, such as climate change, secu

It is a growing and exciting field where increasing Scottish evidence has been given wider significance in the context of European prehistory. It extends over a long period, which saw great changes, including substantial environmental transformations, and the impact of, and societal response to, climate change. The main recommendations of the panel report can be summarised under four headings: 1. From Source to Sea: River systems, from their source to the sea and beyond, should form the focus for research projects, allowing the integration of all archaeological work carried out along their course. Future research should take a holistic view of the marine and maritime historic environment, from inland lakes that feed freshwater river routes, to tidal estuaries and out to the open sea. This view of the landscape/seascape encompasses a very broad range of archaeology and enables connections to be made w
