Nelson, Dorothy Jane Gould. "The Relationship Between Postretirement Activity and Life Satisfaction." DigitalCommons@USU, 1995. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/2397.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was t o examine the relationship between the types o f activities people engage in after they retire, how often they participate , how or with whom they participate , and how these independent variables influence the dependent variable of life satisfaction. The majority of the research done to date on postretirement activity focuses primarily on recreational activities. This study examined the effects of including some type of substantive or service activity in addition to hobbies and recreational act i vity. Participants were surveyed concerning their health, mobility, and financial conditions so that these variables could be controlled for in determining life satisfaction. They were questioned about their activities, and given the Life Satisfaction Index to measure life satisfaction. The results indicate that those who have no activities t hat they participate in on a regular basis--no hobbies, no forms of recreation , and no service-related activities-have a relatively high level of life satisfaction. Also those who have a high level of hobby and recreational activity combined with regular service activities have a higher level of satisfaction. Those who only occasionally engage in hobby and recreational activity and have no service-related activity have a moderate level of satisfaction. The results of this study confirm the hypothesis that life satisfaction is positively influenced by both hobbies and service activities. Age and gender of respondents are not important variables, but the issues of mobility, health, and economic status do impact life satisfaction. The importance of hobby and recreational activity has been frequently studied under the guise of activity theory, and found to be of significance in feelings of well-being and in life satisfaction. The role of service activity has not been thoroughly explored, but is believed to fill the need for exchange as postulated in exchange theory.

Karseboom, Shirley. "Relationship Between Meaning in Life and Dispositional Forgiveness." ScholarWorks, 2016. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/2362.

Full text
Abstract:
Both meaning in life and forgiveness have been shown to separately contribute to better mental health. However, no prior research examined the linkage between meaning in life and forgiveness. This quantitative study was therefore to identify if there was a relationship between meaning in life, as measured by the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ), and overall dispositional forgiveness, dispositional forgiveness of self, dispositional forgiveness of others, and dispositional forgiveness of situations, as measured by the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS). Survey data were gathered from 250 college students in Western Canada, and multiple linear regression controlling for sociodemographic factors was used. The results showed a relationship between meaning in life and 3 out of the 4 variables. A significant relationship was found between meaning in life and dispositional forgiveness, dispositional forgiveness of situations, and overall dispositional forgiveness. There was no relationship found between meaning in life and dispositional forgiveness of others. These findings may be explained by extant literature suggesting differences in both cognitions and emotions between self forgiveness, other forgiveness, and overall forgiveness. Mental health professionals applying therapeutic intervention options that incorporate these 2 constructs may help to precipitate social change in terms of the treatment and management of mental health, especially with respect to the potential to improve treatment options for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and anger. Improved treatment interventions and options for individuals can potentially lead to increased employability, reduction in crime, better school attendance and performance, and overall improved physical health across the lifespan.

Pierce, Kathleen Anne. "A study of the relationship between childhood incest and interpersonal relationships in adult life." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/27292.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to determine if it is possible to establish a relationship between childhood experiences of incestuous abuse and specific problems in functioning and in interpersonal relationships as an adult. Since incest occurs in families where other dysfunctional features are present, it is usually difficult to separate the different influences on the individual in their family of origin and how they are affected later in life. A single subject was studied using material from audiotaped counselling sessions over a five month period. The contents of the tapes were analysed to see if the client was dealing with difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and if so, how the incest experience might be related to these problems. The study was augmented by audiotaped interviews with five counsellors who work in the sexual abuse field to ascertain their views on the implications of incest abuse on development and its relationship to problems in adult functioning. The study was viewed from a developmental perspective and the stages of trust, identity formation and intimacy were identified as stages of development that were adversely affected by the incestuous abuse. The results of the interviews with the counsellors supported these findings. The findings from the study were also examined by reference to psychoanalytic, loss and feminist perspectives on the nature of the developmental problems the subject encountered. It was found that it was possible to identify specific areas where the incest experiences were seriously affecting the adult survivor, especially in the areas of sexual dysfunction and problems in forming intimate relationships. Other features of the family dynamic were also identified as significant especially the difficulty the subject had in resolving problems in her relationship to her father and stepfather as well as residual feelings of ambivalence in her relationship with her mother. Recommendations were made concerning the need for more research in the area of sexual abuse and the need for many more treatment resources to meet the needs of abuse survivors.

Full text
Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how Stockholm based travel agencies understand and use relationship marketing and how it is perceived by customers.

Relationship marketing is defined by Grönroos as a building of relationships with customers to achieve mutual benefits. Four main objectives of relationship marketing were used to contextualise the term: service quality, personalisation, differentiation, and communica-tion.In order to answer the purpose, the authors have chosen to interview three travel agen-cies that focus on offering tailor made travel for different target groups. Sampling was used to find these travel agencies, as the total number of travel agencies in the Stock-holm area is too large to interview. Also, customers who have travelled with two of the travel agencies were interviewed. Further, several theoretical frameworks are presented in order to provide the reader with a view of relationship marketing, and were used in the design and the questions asked both companies and customers.

From the interviews with the companies it was found that all of them have different views of what relationship marketing is, and that they have different ways of imple-menting it. The views of relationship marketing differ from building a strong brand im-age to managing actual relationships with customers.

The main efforts of relationship marketing that the companies are involved in are delivering personalized travel and high service quality to customers. It was found in the interviews with customers that their view on what makes good ser-vice is similar to that of company views. What is most important to customers is that the perceived quality matches, or exceeds, the experienced one. There are several things that companies can do to attract and retain customers including having rewards clubs, sending out a moderate amount of newsletters, and providing a personal seller for customers.

Taylor, Louise Marion. "Learning in later life : using life biography to investigate the inter-relationship of learning and life course capital." Thesis, Keele University, 2013. http://eprints.keele.ac.uk/201/.

Full text
Abstract:
Current demographics within the United Kingdom present a challenging picture, with older people forming a considerable proportion of the population. In particular, older people are spending a longer period outside paid work at a point in the life course constructed as retirement. Increasingly, some older adults are returning to learning as a means of remaining socially connected, keeping active and purely for pleasure. Research which seeks to understand the relevance and importance of learning in later life remains quite disparate and, in addition, there is a lack of longitudinal or biographical research which seeks to explore this phenomenon. The research reported in this thesis aims to offer new insights into later-life learning by exploring how retired older people narrate their experiences of learning, and through consideration of the interrelationship this experience to life course capital.

Seward, Rebecca. "The relationship between discounting immediate and former life statuses related to quality of life." OpenSIUC, 2020. https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/theses/2691.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of the current study is to evaluate the relationship between discounting immediate and former life statuses prior to death related to quality of life across the lifespan. A discounting survey was completed by 83 participants in which they were asked to make hypothetical choices regarding returning back to an age they preferred or remaining at their current age prior to dying. In addition, participants completed surveys measuring quality of life, death depression, and death anxiety. Results indicated that participants who reported low quality of life and experienced high depression and anxiety towards death responded more impulsively to the discounting survey, engaging in steeper discounting. Additionally, results indicated that a positive correlation between participants aged 30 to 50 years old and AUC exists, indicating that as age increases, impulsivity decreases. However, this same trend was not evident in participants over the age of 65, yielding no correlation. Strengths and limitations, implications of the current study’s findings, and opportunities for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
This study aimed to reveal the relationship between quality of life and happiness in a comparative manner, to underline the importance of happiness and enable researchers to familiarize themselves with happiness in the sociological context of Turkey. Quality of life and happiness, which are multidimensional and interdisciplinary concepts, were firstly identified by looking at their treatment in different approaches. Then, they were analyzed by relating them to different variables in the European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS) data which allows for making comparisons among European Union countries and Turkey. Our study is limited to four countries, namely Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary and Turkey that were selected on the basis of two criteria
their average of happiness score and their membership status in the European Union. On the other hand, the independent variables of the study are &ldquo
having&rdquo
(material living conditions), &ldquo
loving&rdquo
(social relations), &ldquo
being&rdquo
(quality of society), &ldquo
time pressure&rdquo
(work-life balance), &ldquo
alienation&rdquo
, &ldquo

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Individuals who experience negative life events may be at increased risk for suicidal behavior. Intrapersonal characteristics, such as basic psychological needs, however, may buffer this association. Aims: To assess the potential moderating role of overall basic psychological needs, and the separate components of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, on the association between negative life events and suicidal behavior. MethodOur sample of 439 college students (311 females, 71%) completed the following self-report surveys: Life Events Scale, Basic Psychological Needs Scale, Beck Depression Inventory ; II, and the Suicide Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised. Results: In support of our hypotheses, negative life events were associated with greater levels of suicidal ideation and attempts, and satisfaction of basic psychological needs, including autonomy, relatedness, and competence, significantly moderated this relationship, over and above the effects of the covariates of age, sex, and depressive symptoms. Conclusions: Suicidal behavior associated with the experience of negative life events is not inevitable. Therapeutically bolstering competence, autonomy, and relatedness may be an important suicide prevention strategy for individuals experiencing life stressors.

Full text
Abstract:
Specifically, using a sample of 2,848 couples from the RELATE dataset, a model was tested examining the direct associations between personality factors (neuroticism, agreeableness, and extraversion) and relationship satisfaction in romantic couple relationships. The results indicated that lower levels of neuroticism, higher levels of agreeableness, and lower levels of extraversion were associated with greater relationship satisfaction. In particular, ratings of agreeableness had the strongest associations with satisfaction for males and females, while neuroticism had the next strongest associations, followed by extraversion. Paths between male variables and female variables and satisfaction were not significantly different; however, slight gender differences were present among factor loadings of variables as well as coefficient values of all paths. Additionally, differences in actor and partner effects were evident. Actor effects were present for each of the personality factors, except for male extraversion; partner effects were present for all of the personality factors.

Full text
Abstract:

Relationship marketing is widely discussed in the fields of industry goods and services. Also, the theme of marketing to children owns an important part within the existing literature in the marketing field. Nevertheless, there is a lack of literature for relationship marketing in consumer markets towards children. But especially in consumer markets there are certain products, which accompany consumer during their whole life. Brand preferences and loyalty towards certain products are not unusual among consumer and often evolve in early ages. Hence, it seems to be reasonable that companies try to attract children within their marketing activities in order to acquire and keep these children as customer. Since candies and chocolate are everyday products, which are consumed irrespective of age, especially the sweets industry presented an interesting sample for our research.

The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate in which way companies in the sweets industry use relationship marketing to children or perhaps do not use a certain approach at all. Our dissertation was based upon a qualitative method. We conducted semi-structured interviews with sweets companies and marketing agencies, which worked in the field of advertisements for sweets.

When companies want to reach children as consumer it is necessary to approach not only the child itself but also its influence groups. Moreover, companies need to consider that marketing towards children requires certain children-friendly tools and approaches. Amongst others present incentives an often used way to establish customer loyalty. Since children start to be early responsive to marketing activities, companies can benefit when they are approaching children as soon as they start to participate (actively or passively) in the buying process. Nevertheless, due to the low-involvement characteristics of sweets products the degree of binding seems to be lower than for products that require high investments. Therefore, the focus of sweets companies remain the establishment of awareness and attraction amongst children. However, since the discussions are increasing if marketing to children is ethical, the focus of companies seem to be shifting more and more away from the target group children, in order to avoid confrontation with the public discussion. This leaves doubt about the future perspectives of our research field.

Rooks, Leeza. "The relationship between life satisfaction and substance use in adolescence." Scholar Commons, 2010. http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/1754.

Full text
Abstract:
Low life satisfaction and substance use in adolescence are causes for concern as each problem is known to be associated with many concurrent and later negative outcomes. To date, only four studies have examined links between these variables in youth. This study added to the literature by examining adolescents' life satisfaction in relation to their frequency of use of a variety of substance types, using an understudied population (i.e., a predominantly Hispanic sample of 130 high school students). Results included significant, inverse bivariate links between adolescent life satisfaction and use of alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana. When examined simultaneously, adolescents' use of any of the three substance types accounted for a significant but small proportion (6%) of variance in global life satisfaction scores. Other notable results include that gender (but not ethnicity) moderated the relationship between life satisfaction and one type of substance use; specifically, adolescent males who drank alcohol in the past year did not experience diminished life satisfaction. Contrary to hypotheses, high life satisfaction did not protect students who experienced increased risk factors (e.g., poor academic achievement, conduct problems, emotional problems) from actual use of substances. Implications of these findings for future research and practice are outlined and discussed.

Sump, Katherine. "Probationers' Quality of Life Based on Their Perception of Sibling Relationship." ScholarWorks, 2016. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/3074.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The quality of life of probationers remains low when reestablishing life in society. Research has been conducted on how siblings can provide support to juveniles, yet minimal research supported how adult sibling relationships have affected probationers' quality of life. The purpose of this study was to explore the phenomenon of the effect sibling relationships may have on probationers' quality of life. Attachment theory was used as a theoretical framework to support the factors relating to sibling relationship types. This research study used a qualitative interview design in order to explore probationers' perspective of their sibling relationship type and quality of life. The sample (N = 6) came from Transcendence Foundation, a facility providing support to probationers in the South Central Region of Minnesota. A thematic analysis was used to interpret the perceptions probationers have of their relationship with their sibling and how it affects their quality of life. Based on the results from past research studies and this research study, siblings with supportive, warm, and positive relationships reduce the negative aspects and feelings of probationers. The results of this study could potentially help probationers increase their quality of life through the development of interventions involving sibling support. A higher quality of life can create positive social change for probationers reentering into society by increasing their feelings of self-worth and reducing recidivism.

Full text
Abstract:
The current study examined relationships among acculturation, parent-child relationship quality, and selected wellbeing indicators (health-related quality of life, life satisfaction, anxiety, depression, and stress) among a group of young adults from immigrant families of Asian and Hispanic descent. The first goal of the current study was to replicate previous research demonstrating a mixed relationship between acculturation and the wellbeing indicators. The second was to explain this relationship by testing for a moderation effect of parental care on the acculturation-wellbeing relationship. An examination of differences between members of the two ethnic groups on all measured variables served an exploratory purpose. Participants included 204 participants of Asian (N =80) and Hispanic (N = 124) descent who came from an immigrant family, or a family in which at least one parent was born outside of the U.S. Eligible respondents were also current students at the University of the North Texas who fell within the age range of 18-24, and the data for the current study was selected from a larger dataset (N = 1064). Results indicated that higher acculturation levels had a positive effect on each wellbeing indicator. Father Care and Mother Care were found to be significantly positively correlated with most outcome variables but neither parental care variable moderated the acculturation-wellbeing relationship. Asian and Hispanic participants differed on a number of predicting and outcome variables. Implications of the findings, limitations, and future directions are discussed.

Abstract:

Many people are exposed to trauma and subsequently experience mental health distress, though not all seek help for it. This study aimed to explore the relationship between attitudes towards seeking help and level of impairment in work/school, family, and social domains among individuals seeking treatment for traumatic exposure. This study also analyzed the relationship between attitudes to seeking help through various referral sources and demographic characteristics, including gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and level of education. The analysis revealed no significant relationship between level of impairment and attitudes to seeking help, yet significant differences were found when comparing attitudes towards help seeking among level of education and sexual orientation. Implications of the demographic characteristics of the help seeking population and lack of significance in the relationship between help seeking attitudes and level of impairment are discussed.

Shipley, Ahlishia J'Nae. "AN EXPLORATORY STUDY OF INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP SOCIALIZATION AMONG BLACK COLLEGIATE WOMEN." UKnowledge, 2011. http://uknowledge.uky.edu/gradschool_diss/171.

Full text
Abstract:
The pathways through which individuals learn to appraise and behave in intimate relationships greatly influence the quality and stability of their relationships. Research on intimate relationships among college students guided by a socialization framework focusing on learning and ways of viewing relationships is limited. The purpose of the present exploratory study was to examine the experiences and processes wherein young Black collegiate women learn to approach, maintain, and reflect on their intimate relationships. This topic is particularly salient to Black collegiate women who find themselves navigating unbalanced dating scenes and negotiating love relationships while balancing academic achievement and career aspirations. Ten Black, heterosexual women attending a four-year institution of higher education participated in three in-depth interviews where they shared life experiences which contributed to their understanding of intimate relationships. Using symbolic interactionism as a guiding framework allowed me to discover the multiple descriptions and meanings the participants assign to the interactions in their families, with their peers, and in their symbolic environments. The narratives shared by the women in this study revealed a number of experiences which prompted them to engage in self-reflection, critique, and learning with respect to self-identity and intimate relationships. Hearing messages, observing others, and experiencing relationships for themselves provided these women with a foundation for knowing the importance of preserving self-worth and self-identity, establishing expectations, and communicating thoughts and feelings. Implications for practice include the importance of developing specialized relationship education culturally and socially relevant to Black collegiate women, training campus professionals on the unique needs and concerns of this population, and educating parents on communicating with daughters about intimate relationship development. Future research should devote specific attention to social context, paternal-daughter relationship communication, and parental relationship modeling.

Full text
Abstract:
Dog adoption is a popular way for people to find pets in the United States. With dog adoption comes dog adoption narratives, ideologically about the dog, told by humans for humans. Dog adoption narratives, a genre of personal experience narrative, enact a series of formalized conventions that reveal societal binaries, tensions, and anxieties in the interspecies relationship. Using an interdisciplinary theoretical framework, I highlight the way these narratives are performed, organized, and interpreted. By comparing the adoption narratives of two different groups, people who regularly visit dog parks and people who do dog rehabilitation work, I argue that these narratives yield insight about the way humans perceive dogs in the United States within the context of how humans themselves want to be perceived by other humans. Dogs become a form of cultural capital and dog adoption narratives a reflection of cultural attitudes towards, and informed interactions with, the human-dog relationship.

Petersen, Rejeanne. "The relationship between quality of work-life and quality of life based on the centrality and value of work in an individual’s life." Master's thesis, Faculty of Commerce, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/30879.

Full text
Abstract:
The study sought to examine the relationship between quality of work-life and quality of life depending on how central work is in an individual’s life and what value work holds for them. Literature internationally has shown that because work forms such an integral part of individuals’ lives, that this could influence their experience of quality of life, indicating that a high quality of work life could lead to a high quality of life. Similarly, if work is a central life interest and dependent on the value that work holds, the loss of work could potentially influence quality of life. A cross-sectional, descriptive design was used, with a correlational approach. Snowball sampling was used to gather a sample of 163 working adults in South Africa, through a personal network of family and friends. Participants completed scales assessing the four variables of interest provided in an online questionnaire. The results indicated that individuals who experienced their quality of work-life as more positive also indicated a higher quality of life. This relationship was stronger when individuals saw work as having intrinsic value. However, the degree to which work was central to a person’s life, and to which work was seen as having value as it provided monetary rewards (extrinsic value), social connections and relationships (social value), or status (prestige value) were not found to alter the relationship between quality of work-life and quality of life. As shown previously in both international and local literature, work is always placed second to family in importance. Based on these findings, limitations and recommendations were suggested, as well as theoretical and practical implications.

Abstract:
This study was conducted with survey data drawn from a relationship education initiative in the state of Utah. Teenagers participated in the Premarital Interpersonal Choices and Knowledge (PICK) program (also known as How to Avoid Falling for a Jerk or Jerk-ette), a program designed for single individuals. They answered questions before and after the course, and I used their responses to answer two questions: (1) What concerns do middle-adolescents (ages 15-17) have about romantic relationships? (2) What do middle-adolescents gain from participation in PICK? Data from 605 participants were combined and analyzed for themes. Teenage participants expressed concerns about gaining the skills and knowledge necessary for healthy building relationships. They also wanted to avoid risky relationship behaviors such as cheating, abuse, jealousy, and sexual coercion. They were interested in how relationships with peers and parents affect romantic relationships. These concerns aligned with the gains that they reported from participation in PICK. Taking their responses together, participants said that PICK addressed their concerns by providing training in relationship skills and knowledge to help them avoid risky relationships. They were especially appreciative of the Relationship Attachment Model, a visual tool created to help them evaluate pacing, sequence, and behaviors in healthy relationships.

Turner, Paul. "The Relationship Between Risk for Drug Abuse and Meaning in Life." TopSCHOLAR®, 1995. http://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/891.

Full text
Abstract:
Drug abuse continues to be one of the most significant problems in the United States today. Attempts to understand drug abuse have produced numerous multidimensional prevention and treatment models. These models have resulted in the identification of psychological, social and biological risk factors related to drug abuse. In this study, the risk for drug abuse was assessed in 311 college students. A questionnaire was developed to measure risk. The questionnaire assessed risk for abuse predicted by the following factors: academic performance, coping and psychological health, religiosity, family and peer drug use, and the individual's past and current drug use. Based on their risk scores students were placed into low, medium, or high risk groups. The participants also completed the Purpose in Life Test and Life Attitude Profile-Revised questionnaire which measured meaning in life. The results indicated that high risk students scored significantly lower on the global and composite scores of meaning in life. Consistent with the theories of Viktor Frankl, a lack of meaning in life and existential vacuum were related to risk for drug abuse. The results of this study suggest that lack of meaning in life may be an important contributing factor to drug abuse. These data suggest that meaning in life is a relevant issue to be considered in the prevention and treatment of drug abuse.

Bower, Jenny H., of Western Sydney Hawkesbury University, of Science Technology and Environment College, and of Science Food and Horticulture School. "The relationship between respiration rate and storage life of fresh produce." THESIS_CSTE_SFH_Bower_J.xml, 2001. http://handle.uws.edu.au:8081/1959.7/110.

Full text
Abstract:
This project examines whether there is a direct link between respiration and the rate of senescence of fresh produce. Treatments that increase the storage life of fresh products, such as cooling, modified atmospheres and semi-permeable coatings, often decrease respiration rates. This suggests that it may be possible to assess the effectiveness of a specific storage treatment in terms of its effect on reducing respiration. If this is so, total respiration during storage should sum to a constant regardless of changes in the storage conditions. Such an equivalence between 'respiration life' and storage life has been demonstrated in only a few cases. Respiration data from a wide range of published work was analysed from the viewpoint of testing this hypothesis. In general, the results were positive, with some reservations that were further investigated by experiment. In conclusion, respiration rate may be a guide to storage life for products that have clearly defined stages of senescence, and for which rots are not the primary cause of the end of acceptability. The development of the respirometer should make it possible to examine this relationship for many other commodities. However, while respiration may be a function of the rate of senescence under some circumstances, it is also affected by other factors. These include photosynthesis, attachment to the plant, and permeance to gases. Directions for future work therefore include the contribution of photosynthesis to fruit development, the effects of ethylene on respiration rates of non-climacteric fruit while attached to the plant, and interactions between ethylene synthesis and disease resistance

The problem of population aging is getting worse worldwide , including Taiwan. Therefore, long-term care institutions which provide various services are very common in Taiwan, due to the change of social environment and family structure. The purposes of long-term care institutions are improving health for elderly residents and maintaining their body functions. Researchers believe long-term care institutions not only provide better services, but also help improving life adaptation of the residents, in order to increase their life satisfaction. Therefore, this study not only examines the impact of life adaptation and loneliness to life satisfaction, but the interaction of life adaptation and loneliness. In this study, a structured questionnaire is used as a research tool, including the basic information, self-made Life Adjustment Scale, Chinese version of the loneliness scale and self organization life satisfaction scale. This study was a cross-sectional study, samples taking in April 2013 to June , 132 participants in the pre-type. After analyzing the data of reliability and validity , official institutions and institutional life Adjustment Scale Life Satisfaction Scale are verified. In 2014, from April to May, the researcher started surveying the official scale, in the process of selecting participants, in addition to exclude inhabitants with dementia and dysarthria, the researcher also asked the staff in the organization to help selecting suitable participants, and the number of official participants is 138. Data was analyzed with the version 19 of SPSS, application frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation underperformance, ANOVA and regression analysis for statistical analysis. The results showed that the total sample of institutional life satisfaction and loneliness scores showed a negative correlation, which means that when the higher degree of feeling lonely residents of institutions , the lower life satisfaction, and to further explore the loneliness and life satisfaction in both scale relevance at all levels, both showing a close negative relationship, which indicates an increase in the degree of feeling lonely residents of institutions, residents can influence life satisfaction, this must be taken into account whether the services sector can reduce the degree of solitude residents of institutions, in order to increase the resident's life satisfaction. Adaptation and loneliness when living with a better explanation of life satisfaction explanatory power, which means that adaptation and loneliness of life can predict life satisfaction at the same time, their explanatory power to adapt the size of the order of life, loneliness, life satisfaction indicates that investigate first should pay attention to life adjustment, followed by loneliness, in order to effectively improve the resident's life satisfaction.

In recent years, after the financial tsunami broke out, the European insurance companies which adopt the 40th bulletin of International Accounting Standards (FRS4) for the insurance industry issued by International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) have decided to adjust their strategy in Taiwan, quitting the Taiwan insurance market one after another because both the stricter supervising mechanism and the lowered interest rate cause their mother group to suffer from more financial pressure. The customers start to lose faith in the insurance companies because of the mergence of the insurance companies, resulting from financial crisis or takeover by FSC. The competition among the insurance companies is quite intense since there are around 30 insurance companies in Taiwan. The insurance companies should think about how to supply customers with good service and products to satisfy the customers aiming at insurance and financial management, to make their customers want to maintain friendly long-term relationship with the insurance companies. This study conducts empirical research on consumers in Taiwan via the method of sampling, exploring the effect of introducing relationship value, and relationship quality and consumer loyalty into insurance companies. Finally, hopefully the result of this empirical research can be a reference basis for insurance companies when they frame their strategies. This study gets empirical support from the customers who have bought the products from insurance companies, and concludes as follows: 1.As far as relationship value is concerned, the better the customers feel about product, service, employers, image, interest and time value, the more confident they feel about the insurance companies. 2.The more confident the customers feel about the insurance companies, the more induced behavior and the more intention to purchase again and the better tolerance to product price they will be. 3.In the influence of customers’ confidence versus customer loyalty, the intermediary effect of trust is significant.

ABSTRACT The relationship mentioned in marketing theories and life insurance sales documentaries is a trading relationship surrounding merchandise and services. It is a relationship developed and sustained under the condition of trade established or to be established. However, this definition neglected the phase in which life insurance sales is actually marketing conducted and embedded within social relationship. In this research, we maintain that there is still another phase in life insurance business exclusively for Chinese people, that is, the “human interrelationship,” or simply “relationship” (guanxi) in the Chinese society. This particular phase refers to the process in which a gradual development of a social relationship between both sides ended up in the establishment of a trading relationship upon a social relationship. This very same phase also signifies that life insurance sales is indeed the process in which a social relationship shifts into a trading relationship. In this research, we use insurance brokers as the research target and we collect information through in-depth interviews. We then apply Yang, Chung-Fang’s theory of relationships as the infrastructure, with which we analyze how insurance brokers develop relationships by associating with people based on the foundations of relationships; and how the sales of life insurance is introduced after a relationship is being matured and a trading relationship is established. In terms of the foundation of relationships, a variety of relationships being developed are categorized between the insurance brokers and the customers, including the source of the cases, calling on new customers, and the referred cases. The insurance brokers use all kinds of occasions to associate with potential customers and adhere to certain arrangement of their roles and the rules. Suppose each side plays his / her role the way he /she is supposed to, and makes the other party willing to continue the association, then it is possible to bring the relationship into a long-term state of mutual reliance and mutual association, which is to say, to the level of emotional intercommunication. A trading relationship is established between the two parties. Therefore, trading is embedded in different social bases and different states of relationships. The social interaction, the social association between insurance brokers and customers is a kind of social relationship. However, the sales of insurance products is an economic activity. Therefore, we may say life insurance sales is an economic activity operated within social relationship.

People in the modern society have been encountering more and more pressure from work, which results in an imbalance between work and life. Therefore, how to improve employees' quality of life satisfaction has become a popular topic. The management expects employee to show their passion to work, and this can also reflect a high extent of contribution to work. This study aims to make a prediction between work passion and life satisfaction based on valid questionnaire survey from 228 engineers involving in hi-tech industry. The finding reveals that there is no significant relationship between work passion and life satisfaction, even though work-life-balance does play a mediator role between the two factors.。 This study might be a meaningful reference for the management when designing the strategies of organization development of hi-tech corporations and might bring win-win outcome between employers and employee.

This study investigates the relationship between life cycle and financing strategies. We follow methodology of Anthony and Ramesh(1992), and use sales growth, dividend payout and age as the indicators to identity the life cycle stage-growth stage, mature stage and stagnant stage. First of all, we investigate how the pecking order theory matches into companies in different life cycle stage. We conclude that in the study of pecking order theory, growth stage firms are the most unrelated between their profitability and debt ratio, and they also prefer financing by issuing stocks instead of financing with debt. Since, the growth stage companies are not consistent with pecking order theory. And the stagnant stage firms are the most consistent with pecking order theory. Second, we focus on the relationship between life cycle and debt maturity. We found debt maturity increases over life cycle stage. Firms in growth stage prefer to use short-term debt for financing, and firms in stagnant stage borrow at the long end of the maturity spectrum.

To find out if the dermatoglyphics is the image of brain, the aim of study is to approach the relationship between dermatoglyphics and life systems by the theory of Holography, ECIWO (Embryo Containing the Information of the Whole Organism), Fractal Structure and Embryology. The main purposes of research are as follows. First, approach the relationship between dermatoglyphics and personality traits. Then, approach the relationship between dermatoglyphics and intelligences. Next, approach the relationship between dermatoglyphics and aptitudes. After that, approach the relationship between dermatoglyphics and learning achievements. Finally, approach the distinction between the genders of life systems. To take the fingerprints of 103 students in the eighth grade in Ilan county by MME(Mind Measurement Education) dermatoglyphics tools. Analyze the dermatoglyphics data and then compare them with those of “Test of Lai Personality”, “Test of Junior High School Intelligence”, “Test of Multiple Aptitude” and “Learning Achievements” by statistical methods such as descriptive statistics to obtain the results of means, standard deviation and frequencies, and One-Way ANOVA, Independent-Samples T Test, Chi-square and Linear Regression to approach the relationship between life systems (personality traits, intelligences, aptitudes, learning achievements and genders), and SPSS 13.0 for Windows software. The study discovers that there are closed relationships between dermatoglyphics and life systems such as personality traits, intelligences, aptitudes, learning achievements and genders. Firstly, in personality traits, a student with ulnar loop tends to be “Strain”, with whorl tends to be “Anxiety”, with left thumb side is good at “Ascendancy”, with ring finger side is likely to “Cyclic Tendency” and “Anxiety”, with right little finger side enables oneself to adapt the society and be “Objectivity”, with left little finger side loves “General Activity”. Secondly, in intelligences, a student with ulnar loop and left little finger side has more intelligent. Thirdly, in aptitudes, a student with ulnar loop is better than others, with right thumb side has more “Speed and Accuracy”, left little finger side tends to “Mathematics Reasoning”. Then, in learning achievements, a student of seventh grade with ulnar loop is better in Math. Finally, boys are better than girls in “atd angle” and “psychology”, but girls tend to “Anxiety”. All the results implies the closed relationship between dermatoglyphics and life systems; that is to say, it’s possible to understand life systems through dermatoglyphics. From literature approaching, the control of life systems is the brain and a report in June 2006 discovers that skin cell enables to take place stem cell. Due to the closed relationship between dermatoglyphics and brain, the author tries to infer the possibility that dermatoglyphics may be the image of brain. Perhaps, dermatoglyphics have already implied characteristics of life systems when life is developing. Anyway, it’s useful and helpful in education to understand the difference between life systems.

Modigliani and Miller (1958) stretched out share between debt and equity of a company has no effect on company's value when there is no tax, no transaction cost, no financial distress cost, no information asymmetry and no agency cost. A lot of theories are developed from the MM theory, such as static trade-off theory, information asymmetry theory, pecking order theory and agency cost theory. Organizational life stage theory provides the direction of the change of the company’s characteristics. Bender and Ward (1993) emphasized the trade-off relation between business risk and financial risk. Using five parameters including the sales revenue growth rate, the dividend payout ratio, capital expenditure ratio, the age of enterprise and the return on assets, this study separate the enterprise samples into three parts: growth, maturity and decline stages. This study finds enterprises in the growth stage tend to support static trade-off theory and enterprises in decline stage tend to support pecking order theory.

Abstract:
In this study, we analyze the impact of education on life satisfaction in Portugal. Our focus is 2018, and we compare it with 2013. We use individual-level data from the ICOR survey, a panel that was implemented to ensure the Portuguese participation in the European database called European Statistics on Income and Living conditions (EU-SILC). The main conclusions are: Firstly, the education level of each individual has a positive and significant effect on life satisfaction. Secondly, this effect of education on life satisfaction had a greater impact on the older generation (Baby Boomers cohort, individuals born between 1938-1970) than it has on more recent generations (Generation X cohort, individuals born between 1971-1979 and Millennials cohort, individuals born between 1980-2000). Thirdly, it is difficult to distinguish whether the effect comes from the year or cohort. The ideal exercise would be to compare individuals throughout their lives and see their satisfaction each year. However, we don’t have data for this. Despite that, comparing mutual ages caught in different generations (in different years) we can say that the effect comes from cohort. Furthermore, after controlling for income and working hours, and after disentangling the relationship between life satisfaction and education, considering gender, activity status, civil status, and region, we still find that education has a positive (and direct) impact on life satisfaction. We interpret this result as evidence of a ‘‘self-confidence’’ effect from acquiring knowledge or as proof of how education can strengthen relationships, which is the most important mechanism that keeps us happy.

This study aims to examine the relationship among the life adaptation, leisure satisfaction and life satisfaction for senior high cadets, and to offer some suggestions based on the analysis so as to provide references for educational training, life management and other aspects to the decision-making officials. In this study, the target school is the only military high school in Taiwan. In the proportion, and number of the sample student extracted, there are 130 students in the first grade, accounted for 36.9%, 115 students in the second grade, accounted for 32.4%, and 105 students in the third grade, accounted for 30.7%. The proportion is analogous to the concurent percentage of students in every grade of the objective school. Finally, we conducted the statistical analysis based on the results obtained from the questionnaires, and acquired the main conclusions as follows: 1. The senior high cadets with various demographic statistics mostly show significant differences in the “life adaptation.” 2. The senior high cadets with various demographic statistics bear no significant difference in the “leisure satisfaction.” 3. The senior high cadets with various demographic statistics possess no significant difference in the “life satisfaction.” 4. Part of “life adaptation” and “life satisfaction” of senior high cadets exhibit significantly positive correlation. 5. The “leisure satisfaction” and “life satisfaction” of senior high cadets show significant and positive correlation. 6. The “life adaptation” reveals significantly positive correlation with “leisure satisfaction” for senior high cadets. Concluding from the results above, we found that if it is to enhance the life satisfaction of senior high cadets effectively, though it cannot be directly reached, we can enhance the life adaptation of senior high cadets with a considerable extent through leisure satisfaction promotion, or the cadets with good life adaptation usually have higher leisure satisfaction and their life satisfaction may be improved to a certain degree. The school administrators can put more effort on this in the future.

Due to the intense competition in the current financial environment, life insurance agents must face the challenge of proficiency. They need to consider whether they are able to meet the diversified demands of customers with sufficient competency and to ensure that they can develop a maximum potential on their job. According to the current research on the life insurance agents, we found that most of the research focus on the needs of the core competency of agent's profession with related development model. Specifically, this research attempts to explore the impact of the core competency of agents on the quality of customer relations. A lot of relationship marketing research for the service industry suggests that agents need to improve customer satisfaction and build mutual trust, which can enhance the level of interaction with customers. In addition, this study also would like to understand what will be the impact on the strength of customer relation as to the relationship quality dimensions of satisfaction, trust, and commitment? All of these issues would be studied in depth by this research. The study report intends to provide life insurance agency a reference material for its agents' training and future career development especially under the current highly competitive environment. In addition, this study provides agents the survival niche as well as competitive advantage. The scope of the study will focus on life insurance customers in the greater Taipei area( natural persons only) as the research object. The sample object will be limited to the current life insurance customers with agents service. A total of 312 questionnaires were collected with 302 valid questionnaires. SPSS 12.0 software is used for statistical analysis. The outcome from analysis is applied to verify the hypothesis. The research suggests that: 1.Agent's knowledge on satisfaction and trust have a positive impact, but they do not have a positive influence on commitment. 2. Business skills of agents have positive impact on satisfaction, trust, and commitment. 3.Agents attitudes have positive impact on customer relations. 4.Customer satisfaction has positive impact on the strength of customer relations. 5.Trust has a positive impact on the strength of customer relationships. 6.Commitments has positive impact on the customer relationship. For management practice, the research suggests that life insurance agents should strengthen their core competency to improve customer relations, and to improve the interaction between customer and agent through the quality of relationship, and thus enhance the strength of customer relationship. As a result, these suggestions should improve the competitiveness of life insurance agents and their survival niche.

The physiological, psychological and behavioral problems caused by the life stress factor of adolescent, such as illness, anxiety, depression, violent attacks, lack of self-confidence, etc are always been concerned by all parties. Teacher Chang Foundation (2010) survey found that most students lack self-confidence and often have doubts about their own abilities. They are full of doubts about the future. Bandura's social cognitive theory shows that the higher the self-efficacy, the more they believe that they can effectively handle the events and situations they face. When individuals are under stress, they are prone to anxiety, tension, fear, etc. In order to evade or mitigate the feelings it induces, individuals often generate violent attacks, truancy, or depression and self-indulgence. Not only does it easily lead to the exclusion or neglect of their peers and the intrusion into the relationship of being bullied by their peers will also reduce their self-efficacy. Therefore, this study proposes that assumptions of life stress factor will reduce self-efficacy;The negative peer relationships reduces self-efficacy;The negative peer relationship has a mediating effects on the relationship between life stress factor and self-efficacy. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted and SPSS 18.0 was used for statistical analysis. The data obtained were analyzed by confirmatory factors, and the reliability, validity test, and Pearson product correlation analysis were performed. The data was used to verify the hypothesis. This study shows: Life stress factor reduces self-efficacy, life stress causes the negative peer relationship, the negative peer relationship reduces self-efficacy and the negative peer relationship has significant mediating effect on the relationship between students’ life stress and self-efficacy. The conclusions of this study may provide future reference for class tutoring. Key Words: junior high school students, life stress factor, peer relations, negative peer relations, self-efficacy

The purpose of this study was to investigate the attachment relationship, social relationship and life adjustment of elementary school children. The sample, 943 fourth and sixth graders in total, was drawn from fifteen public elementary schools in Tainan County. Instruments used in this study were “The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment”, “The Inventory of Elementary Children Social Relationship” and “The Revision of Elementary Children Life Adjustment”. Statistical methods, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis, were used to analyze the data. The following are the critical findings: 1.For attachment relationship, the average scores of father, mother and peer attachment were all higher than their medians. It appears good attachment relationship. Especially, mother attachment was the most significant relationship of elementary school children. In addition, the scores of father and mother attachment were not significantly different between girls and boys. However, the girls’ score on peer attachment was significantly higher than the boys’. As to different grades, the scores of the fourth grader were significant higher than those of the sixth grader in overall attachment and parent attachment. Even so, no difference was found in peer attachment. 2.For social relationship, the average scores of social relationship with all groups were higher than the medians except for their peers and teachers. In other words, the social relationship of elementary school children was all right; however, their relationship with teachers apparently needs to improve above all. With regards to overall social relationship, the girls’ score was significantly higher than the boys’. The score of the fourth grader was significantly higher than that of the sixth grader as well. 3.For life adjustment, the average score of each subscale was higher than the median that indicates the life adjustment of elementary school children was well performed. Moreover, there was significant difference in overall life adjustment by gender. The girls’ score was significantly higher than the boys’. As to different grades, the score of the fourth grader was significantly higher than that of the sixth grader in overall life adjustment. 4.The subscales of attachment relationship were both positively correlated with those of social relationship and life adjustment. It was perceived that children’s attachment relationship could severely affect their social relationship and life adjustment: the more secure their attachment relationship was, the more functional their social relationship and life adjustment would be. 5.The social relationship of elementary school children could be effectively predicted by gender and the subscales of attachment relationship, which accounted for 52.1% of the total variance of social relationship. Above all, the peer attachment was the strongest predictor of elementary school children’s social relationship. 6.The life adjustment of elementary school children could be effectively predicted by gender, grades and the subscales of attachment relationship, which accounted for 49.5% of the total variance of life adjustment. Above all, the peer attachment was the strongest predictor of elementary school children’s life adjustment. Based on the results, implications of this study for parenting and guidance were discussed. Suggestions for future research were also propose.
