Abstract:
ABSTRACTAtmospheric scattering of outdoor nighttime electric illumination produces the principal component of background sky luminance that seriously affects ground-based optical astronomy. The sources for this scattering are Tight emitted skyward directly from luminaires, and light reflected off the ground and other illuminated objects. Careful illumination engineering can thus significantly reduce background sky luminance in two ways: 1) by providing outdoor electric lighting equipment that controls the directions in which light is emitted, and; 2) by proper design of outdoor lighting systems which make efficient use of the east amount of light. Recent developments in applied mathematics and computer software have produced computational tools that are being used to design lighting equipment and lighting systems. The software system for luminaire design significantly reduces the cost of this process by eliminating the need for extensive prototyping and provides for inexpensive experimentation with new designs. The system for outdoor lighting calculations permits the design of highly controlled lighting systems that eliminate glare and upward directed light while providing light appropriate for the visual task. These two software systems are described, along with examples of their use in areas that directly affect astronomical observations.

Abstract:
For decades, multiple lighting simulation software packages and plugins for commercial software have been developed in an effort to ease the usage and integration of simulation into the lighting design process. In this effort, one of the main challenges is to provide lighting designers with an easy and comprehensive access to simulation results. Visualization is used as a means to achieve this goal. In this paper, we explore two of the most used free lighting simulation packages towards the identification of visualization techniques that facilitate the access to the simulation results as well as the identification of opportunities for the enhancement of simulation-assisted lighting design processes. A test case of a metal workshop illustrates the output produced by both software packages. Based on this exploration, we identified an open gap regarding three main aspects: interactive exploration of simulation results, visualization of compliance with lighting standards, and visual comparison of lighting solutions. We provide a discussion on how approaches from other domains can be applied to close this gap.

Abstract:
Road lighting needs to be measured at regular time intervals. In this way, new road lighting projects can be controlled in compliance with the specifications, and existing road lighting luminaires that are damaged or of reduced efficiency can be identified and replaced. Today, lighting measurements are mostly made by using hardware tools that make point measurements. The use of this method requires expert staff, money and time. In this pilot study, artificial intelligence and web-based software were developed to make road lighting measurements using photographs of roads. For this purpose, reference points have been determined on the road. The correlation between luminance values and pixel values of these points was established using artificial intelligence techniques. Artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic and adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system methods are used to establish the correlation. With this software, the difficulties encountered when using the conventional measurement method are reduced; road lighting measurements can be done in a short time, cost-free and online.

Abstract:
There are numerous and different ways to design an energy efficient street lighting system, but not always the best technical solution is the optimal economic solution as well. In this paper, we used two distinct software tools in order to obtain the optimal technical and economic solution for selecting street lighting technology. The first software used was DIALux, which is frequently applied in this field, assisting designers in choosing the most appropriate electrical installations and evaluating the technical performance of the chosen solutions. This tool determined the street lighting system variants for which there are predetermined configurations, so that the lighting parameters obtained are in accordance with the normative requirements of the lighting classes in which the roadways are included. Different ways of locating the luminaires and other parameters were changed to reach the best version that meets the qualitative requirements of the lighting technology. The second software used was the one developed by the authors, based on ELECTRE III method, which evaluated the technical solutions returned by DIALux against several criteria, taking into account the designer’s preferences and constraints. The optimal technical and economic solution was obtained after ranking the variants by their performance at each criterion. The simulation experiment and the results returned suggested that the combination of the two software tools is comprehensive and effective and it can be used in this type of decisions at large scale.

Abstract:
Abstract With the emergence of smart LEDs, lighting based interior design is becoming popular. However, most of the smart LED-based lighting systems rely on expert-human intervention to create a desired atmosphere. For convenience, commercial lighting systems offer a number of options but their usability is fairly restricted. Therefore, an intuitive interface is required for novice users to generate the desired lighting environment. In this paper, we have developed a software, named MudGet, which automatically extracts the light mood from a digital image and controls the LED lamps to reproduce a desired lighting effect according to the extracted light mood. In our method, the light mood is regarded as a set of the representative colors of the digital image. The representative colors are extracted by utilizing K-means clustering algorithm. The dimming parameters are set for which each of the LED lamps create the lighting environment with the mood extracted by the software. To evaluate the feasibility of mood reproduction qualitatively, the degree of similarity between the light mood in the digital image and the reproduced result using LEDs is evaluated by a user study under a miniaturized experimental set. We observe that users can easily produce a desired atmosphere through the proposed MudGet software. Highlights An image based lighting design interface is proposed. The interface controls customized LED module wirelessly. Desired lighting effect is generated from the color clustering centers of image.

This paper focuses on evaluating lighting conditions in a university classroom used for day and evening classes. The evaluation was made with regard to the legislation requirements for evening classes and adult education. The practical part of this paper consists of illumination measuring and simulation. A RadioLux 111 luxmeter was used to measure the illumination during the absence of daylight, which often occurs, especially in winter during the later hours. The simulation was performed in the DIALux EVO 10.1 and ReluxDesktop lighting design software. In both software, a 3D model of the classroom was created to represent its actual state. The results of the measurement and both simulations were compared with each other and with the requirements of the legislation. The requirements for evening classes have not been met in all three cases; therefore, the lighting simulation tools were used to improve the lighting system design concerning its energy efficiency and costs. This paper points out the benefits of using freely available computer software in the process of the calculation and improvement of lighting systems.

Lighting is one of the important factors in a room design. The intensity of lighting that does not meet the standards can affect eye health and work activities. In this study, measurements of the lighting intensity were carried out at Pekanbaru College of Technology (STTP) i.e., in classroom 01A and library. Lumen method is one of the calculation methods to determine the number of luminaires required to improve the lighting quality in the room. For the lighting in classroom 01A, the mathematical calculations result in 363.23 lux while the DIALux evo 9.2 software obtained 375 lux. There is 3.1% difference in these results This might occur because the condition of the room, supporting equipment, and color has an influence on the results of calculations and the spread of light, while the effect of color is not considered. However, in calculations using DIALux evo 9.2 software, surface color has an influence on the results obtained.by changing the specifications of the lamp using the type of LED lamp. The lighting standard to improve the lighting system refers to SNI 6197:2011.

This study focuses on efficient lighting design in Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC), under the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB). To carry out the detailed study and review of the existing lighting scheme, Relux simulation software was used and it is one of the high-performance software to simulate electric and daylight for illumination design and study.
The study was based on the existing lighting scheme and a comparative study employing different luminaires (fluorescent lamp and LED) was performed succeeded by designing an efficient illumination lighting scheme. Further to increase energy saving during the daytime, daylight has been integrated with all the lighting schemes studied. The simulation result exhibits that the average illuminance for the existing lighting scheme is 161lx which does not meet the standard lx level for given infrastructures. Two new lighting schemes using fluorescent lamps and LED lamps were suggested following the standard lx level recommended at the workplace. The comparative life cycle cost analysis of the proposed lighting scheme resulted in 59.9% energy saving potential and accounted for a payback period of 2years when employing LED lamps instead of existing illumination fixtures.

Abstract The level of illumination in a room is very important to support the activities that are being carried out in the room. The width of the openings and the side lighting design strategy are things that need to be analyzed to maximize the natural lighting that enters the room without dazzling the eyes, especially in the classroom. This study aims to determine the width of the opening and the side lighting design strategy of an elementary school in Jakarta that can maximize natural lighting without dazzling the eyes based on the level of illumination so that visual comfort standards can be achieved. The method used is to build a building using FormIt software to determine which side of the building gets sun exposure and makes several simulations of the area of openings and several simulations of side lighting design strategies using the Velux Daylight Visualizer 3 software to determine the level of lighting in the room according to the standard lux requirements for educational institutions. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) as an efficient low-consumption lighting technology are being used increasingly in many applications. The move to LED lighting is also changing the way the lighting control systems are designed. Currently, most electronic ballasts and other digital lighting devices implement the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) standard. This paper presents a low-cost, low-power effective DALI LED driver controller, based on open-source Raspberry Pi3 microcontroller prototyping platform. The control software is developed as a Linux kernel module under UBUNTU 18.04.2 LTS patched with PREEMPT_RT (Preemptive Real-time) for real-time processing. This dynamically loaded kernel module performs all the processing, communication and control operations of the Raspberry Pi3-based DALI controller with the DALI LED driver and LED luminaire. Software applications written in C and Python were developed for performance testing purposes. The experimental results showed that the proposed system could efficiently and effectively manage DALI LED drivers and perform lighting operations (e.g. dimming). The system can be used for a variety of purposes from personal lighting control needs and experimental research in control of electronic ballasts and other control gears, devices and sensors, to advanced requirements in professional buildings, including energy management, lighting maintenance and usage.

Abstract:
In modern society, humans spend most of their time in the indoor environment (home, work, school...). This indoor lifestyle constantly poses challenges to our physical and mental health by affecting our hormone levels and circadian rhythm. This article deals with the possible connection between human and working environment factors and the emergence of health problems in connection with work. Using statistical methods, the dependence between the six characteristics (age, length of employment, visual demand of the work task, satisfaction with lighting conditions, and shift work) and occurrence of health-related problems and discomfort (i.e., eye discomfort, headache, eye fatigue, and seasonal affective disorder symptoms) was examined. The paper also deals with the evaluation of lighting conditions in the workshop using the lighting design software DIALux evo 9.2. Using this software, two lighting variants were modeled. The first simulated variant included lighting parameters according to the currently used luminaries and the second variant contained more efficient LED luminaries.

According to the new processing requirements of lightning full-wave with oscillation in IEC60060-1 Ed.3.0, a impulse measurement calculation program based on Labview has been designed. The method of starting point determination and curve fitting has been introduced. Ordered sample mean clustering thinking was used to find the chopping point of lighting impulse tail-chopping waveform. Waveforms in TDG(test data generator)2.0.6 in IEC61083-2Ed2.0 were used to check the accuracy of the calculation program. The uncertainty of test results has also been estimated. Test results show that this calculation program meets the requirements in IEC61083-2. When the calculation program was used with oscilloscope or data capture card, the accuracy of impulse measurement system can be ensured. It is of significant importance in impulse measurement research.

Abstract:
Light and architecture have a very strong relationship. Light is essential in the creation of attractive and successful buildings, but it may also show flaws. During the day, light glows along the building's façade, giving it a new appearance. From ancient temple and church builders to today's notable architects such as Tadao Ando, Jean Nouvel, and Louis I. Kahn, architects have always used this aspect. Light can also be employed to create an impact on architecture, as shown in the Empire State Building's various lighting usage. Artificial light is particularly significant in architectural displays, and light is very important in the construction of home buildings at night. This study uses qualitative methods with a descriptive-comparative approach to night lighting settings in outdoor spaces, applying Lumion 11, Enscape 3.4, and Twinmotion Edu 2022 rendering software. Models imported from SketchUp's 3D Warehouse are provided spotlight lighting at the same point in each application, as well as Omni lights to support lighting at night. Based on the results of the analysis of the use of Lumion 11, Enscape 3.4, and Twinmotion Edu 2022 rendering software, it is possible to conclude that Lumion 11 and Twinmotion Edu 2022 provide a very photorealistic outdoor space rendering experience at night, with each software platform offering good lighting features.
