Although there are many studies on mammalian bone histology, there are only a few that have examined the bone histology of artiodactyls, or focused specifically on osteohistological changes during ontogeny. Abstract:
The technique of attaching a limb directly to the skeleton has clear benefits, when compared with socket-attachment, for the many amputees who encounter skin problems. A potential risk of attaching a limb to the skeleton is the wound where the implant breaches the skin. At the Centre for Biomedical Engineering in the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science at UCL, a method has been devised which enhances epithelial attachment to the implant, resisting infection, and this has been used to develop a system for attaching a limb to the skeleton: Intraosseous Transcutaneous Amputation

The evolution of the tetrapod limb from paired fish fins involved drastic changes to the appendicular dermal and endochondral skeleton. Fish fin rays were lost, and the endochondral bone was modified and elaborated to form three distinct segments common to all tetrapod limbs: the stylopod, the zeugopod, and the autopod. Identifying the molecular mechanisms that contributed to these morphological changes presents a unique insight into our own evolutionary history. After WWII Portland cement mortars had almost completely replaced lime based mortars in modern construction. One effective therapeutic approach has involved the local injection of stem cells directly into ischemic tissue. Multipotent stromal cells, also termed mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotential, ease to isolate, and amenable to ex vivo expansion which represent a promising cell source for ischemic limb autologous cell therapy. MSCs have been applied in neoangiogenesis via incorporation into newly formed vessels and muscle cells. However, the therapeu

However, the advance in chemotherapy, diagnostic radiology, and surgical techniques has enabled most patients to retain their limbs through limb salvage surgery. Nevertheless, such surgery involves excising a considerable part of the infected bone for tumor removal, after which the damaged bone requires suitable reconstruction. This can substantially affect patients’ muscle strength, joint movement, recovery of limb functions

The system of bone plate and screws is one of the most commonly treatment method for bone trauma. In addition to bone plate for the fracture fixing also has to share bone’s loading, therefor the bone plate strength is a priority factor for this system design. In this research, based on ASTM F382 standard, a four-point bending test simulation model of the dynamic compression bone plate has been developed for human lower limb by using SolidWorks first. According to the statistics of the Department of Health, more and more people are often caused comminuted fracture by car accident, fall etc. Metal bone plate is the most effective treatment used for reconstruction on orthopedic surgery. Since bone plates bears the external force that caused the bone fracture, sufficient strength design is the major factor that determines if the bone plates are able to be implemented in human body. Introduction: Osteoporotic fractures are a major health care problem. A radial fracture is an important risk factor for osteoporosis that should initiate the assessment of bone health. Purpose: 1) To validate pQCT measures of bone in aged cadaveric radii. 2) To examine side-side differences in radial bone variables after disuse. 3) To test a novel intervention for secondary prevention of osteoporosis after an index radial fracture. Methods: Study Design: Part 1: Parts 1A and 1B are descriptive cadaveric studies. Part 2: Cross-sectional observational studies of bone response to disuse; Part 3:

Children of intermediate grade from an elementary school in Yunlin county construct two groups of twelve-person: 1) the experimental group, which members receive five times martial art training per week during the twelve-week test period, and 2) the control group, which members do not get any further training except two regular physic education classes every week. Aim. The overall aims of this study were to develop a tailor-made educational intervention and to examine its effectiveness on short- and longer-term outcomes among Chinese patients with traumatic limb fractures who had undergone surgery.<br>Background. Fracture limb and undergoing surgery is the common problem after injury. It is the most common source of pain and anxiety and research continues to demonstrate a high prevalence of unrelieved pain in injured patients who have undergone surgery.
