The European Rail Traffic Management System, ERTMS, is introduced as a common signalling system for the European railway network. ERTMS consist of two main parts, the signalling part ETCS and the radio transmission system GSM-R, based on the well-established GSM standard. The question to be answered in this thesis is if the capacity of GSM-R is limiting the ETCS part in any way. If that is the fact, how can the limitations be overcome? Looking forward, will public mobile system with high transmission capacity like GPRS, LTE etc influence GSM-R? GSM-R year 2020: how will it look? The thesis des

Abstract:

Abstract:

Nutritional stress has been reported in planted and naturally-regenerated conifers growing in association with an ericaceous species, salal (Gaultheria shallon Pursh), in cutovers previously occupied by old-growth western redcedar (Thuja plicata Donn) and western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla (Raf.) Sarg.) (CH sites) on northern Vancouver Island. No such stress was apparent in cutovers previously occupied by natural, second growth western hemlock and amabilis fir (Abies amabilis (Dougl.) Forbes) stands (HA sites) that developed following windthrow in 1907. The CH ecosystem type occupies as much

Full text
Abstract:
Within the context of a metabolic model of fatigue, formulated from a review of the literature, a decrease in intramuscular pH was identified as a potential limiting factor to the performance of high intensity exercise (HIE). This suggested a role for skeletal muscle buffering (B) in retarding the intramuscular acidosis typically incurred during HIE. Previous studies on human muscle, were largely unable to confirm this role, partly due to the lack of a clearly defined and consistently utilised method of measurement of B. The validity of the procedures currently employed in the determination of

Abstract:
The methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris is a popular expression platform for the production of heterologous proteins, has been implemented in over 1500 laboratories and used to produce over 70 marketed proteins. However, despite high volumetric productivities achievable in fermentor culture, and the methanol inducible AOX1 promoter, which can be manipulated to drive high levels of gene expression, P. pastoris suffers from low levels of cell specific productivity for secreted recombinant proteins. This has been attributed to bottlenecks in the secretory pathway, leading to product loss through
