Truesdell, David M. "Chinas Demographic Limits to Economic Growth." Thesis, Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10945/7421.

Abstract:
China's demographic transition will create great difficulty in continuing the scale of the economic development seen over the last thirty years. This difficulty will be experienced through the costs of the demographic detour, which began during the Great Leap Forward and was then magnified through the birth limiting campaigns up to and including the One-Child Policy. While the skewing of the dependency ratio over the last thirty years resulted in significant contributions to Chinas economic development, this has reached a limit where the unborn laborers will present a strain on development. Abstract:
This work explores the relationship between corporate and economic growth within the United States since 1929. The corporate share of GDP climbed from 52.5 percent in 1929 to 59.7 percent in 2005. Depending upon the years included and the method of estimating respective growth rates, this increasing share of GDP accounts for up to 14 percent of real domestic corporate growth. However, the domestic corporate share of GDP can never exceed 100 percent. Subject to numerous assumptions, the models presented here estimate that this source of corporate growth could be exhausted as early as the y

The breakthrough of the concept of economic growth in economics marks a paradigm shift in thinking about the economy and its place in 'reality.' This thesis analyzes the 20th century discourse of economic growth, focusing its unlimited connotations. The thesis consists of four case studies, two introductory parts and a concluding discussion. Part II first gives an etymological outline of how the concept 'growth' transformed: from signifying natural processes, to become crucial within economics. In spite of the fact that it is one of the most widely researched subjects in plant biology, the physiology of salt tolerance is still not well understood. This research was undertaken to investigate salt tolerance in the extreme halophyte, Salicornia bigelovii Torr. Halophytes, plants that are naturally salt tolerant, are well suited to research on salt tolerance because millions of years of evolution have fine tuned their adaptation to high salinity to the extent that their growth is inhibited when they are grown in reduced salinity. First, we analyze rigorously the differences in qualitative behavior between vicinal surfaces consisting of infinitely many steps and nanowires whose top surface consists of a small number of steps bounded by a reflecting wall. Abstract:
Several lakes located in the blast zone of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens were studied to determine if the plankton in the lakes were limited in their growth by nitrogen or phosphorus availability. Long term nutrient enrichment experiments were performed on lake water from five lakes and measures of chlorophyll-a, carbon fixation, and nutrient uptake were used to evaluate the extent of limitation. Nutrient concentrations, ratios, and uptake from 14 lakes provided additional evidence for limitation by nitrogen and/or phosphorus. The physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of t

Ruprecht, Joel S. "The Demography and Determinants of Population Growth in Utah Moose (Alces Alces Shirasi)." DigitalCommons@USU, 2016. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/4723.

Abstract:
Moose in Utah represent the southernmost naturally occurring populations of moose in the world. Concerns over possible numeric declines and a paucity of baseline data on moose in the state prompted the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to initiate a study of moose demography in collaboration with Utah State University. The objectives of this study were to 1) determine reproductive rates of moose in Utah and the factors which influence them, and 2) combine aerial count data from multiple management units within the state to identify factors which influence interannual variation in population

É as

Abstract:
Healthy transparent cornea depends upon the regulation of fluid, nutrient and oxygen transport through the tissue to sustain cell metabolism and other critical processes for normal functioning. This research considers the corneal geometry and investigates oxygen distribution using a two-dimensional Monod kinetic model, showing that previous studies make assumptions that lead to predictions of near-anoxic levels of oxygen tension in the limbal regions of the cornea. It also considers the comparison of experimental spatial and temporal data with the predictions of novel mathematical models with

Vat, Laura Suzanne. "The growth and reproduction of Patella granularis (Mollusca : patellogastropoda) on the south-east coast of South Africa." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1005388.

Abstract:
Aspects of the biology and ecology of Patella granularis were investigated along a 130km stretch of the south-east coast of South Africa. Distribution, biomass, density and population structure were investigated at seven localities. In addition, a more detailed study of the growth rate and reproductive biology of populations inhabiting three different substrata (aeolianite, quartzitic sandstone and mussel shells) was conducted. The genetic relationships between these three populations was also examined, as was the foraging behaviour of the limpets inhabiting an aeolianite and a quartzitic sand

De, Villiers Ilze. "An assessment of corporate entrepreneurship in the South African Broadcasting Corporation Limited (SABC Ltd.) / I. de Villiers." Thesis, North-West University, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/2604.

Abstract:
Corporate entrepreneurship is examined with specific reference to the South African Broadcasting Corporation Limited (SABC). As such, a historic overview is given of the SABC followed by a review of the present day situation. Factors which could specifically make corporate entrepreneurship a beneficial strategy should the SABC wish to adopt it, is also discussed in order to set the scene for the literature study to follow. These factors include the fierce competitive environment, the commercial funding model, the internal structures and the strained internal and third party relationships. The
