"Drawing an Education" refers to both educating the line by the practice and habit of drawing and to allowing the line to be the educator by drawing from buildings and places, disclosing relationships, structure and meaning. "Influence and evidence" refers to the influences that affect the process and the evidence as exhibited in a finely tuned intuition. Abstract:
This is practice-based research about glass art, undertaken by an artist specialising in the lampworking technique. Over many centuries, lampworking has been widely used for scientific, industrial and craft purposes. In the early 1990s, there was a notable shift where traditional lampworking began merging with contemporary glass art, but there is still room for further development. The research focus is line-making through lampworking. Building upon Hoyt (1989), who determined the fundamental procedures in lampworking, this research identifies five operations relating to line-making: ‘bending’

Abstract:
This thesis uses a Foucauldian approach to explore how lay people construct child neglect in England. The concept of child neglect developed after the Industrial Revolution in conjunction with the construction of ‘normal’ childhood. Both depend on developmental models of childhood produced by psy-complex discourse. However, the knowledge producing the ‘normal’ family and the disciplinary institutions producing and protecting the ‘normal’ childhood have been challenged by late modernity, with a potential impact on what can be considered ‘abnormal’ and therefore neglectful. This paper revisits foundational theories of associative learning, with an emphasis on classical conditioning, as discovered by Ivan Pavlov, and operant conditioning, as developed by B.F. Skinner.
