The macroscale simulation methods are commonly used to study the wear of reciprocating seals to analyze macroscopic effects on the seal wear. There is a lack of numerical method for analyzing the wear of reciprocating seal under mixed lubricating conditions. According to experimental studies, some microscopic factors, including lubrication characteristics and surface roughness, are important for wear of reciprocating seal. Hence, in the presented research, a numerical model is proposed to analyze the effects of microscopic factors on reciprocating rod stepseal wear. O-ring of the stepseal is c

With the development of rolling linear guide manufacturing, improvements of performance and reliability of rolling linear guide products have become the critical technical challenge. One of the key-points lies in the analysis of wear process, in which the crucial step depends on the computation of the wear coefficient. However, little attention has been devoted to the wear coefficient of rolling linear guide. Therefore, in this article, to reflect the actual working condition of rolling linear guide, a novel calculation model for the wear coefficient of rolling linear guide is established firs

The dependence of volumetric wear resistance on linear resistance through specific pressure is proved. As a test of the proposed procedure, field tests of a number of materials of different hardn

Linear weirs are a common hydraulic structure that have been used for centuries with many different applications. One characteristic of weirs that is particularly useful is the head-discharge relationship where the discharge over the weir is directly related to the upstream water depth above the crest. In the comminution industry, cone crushers are widely used for secondary and subsequent stages of size reduction. For a given crusher, the achieved size reduction is governed by the closed-side setting. Hadfield Steel is commonly used to line the crushing members to minimize wear. Yet, liner wear caused by some rock types can still be excessive. Enlargement of discharge opening induced by wear of liners produces a drift in product size which, if unchecked, can lead to high volumes of re-circulating load. Alteration of closed-side setting is now commonly achieved via hydraulic means. However, c

Abstract:
Background: Multi-directional sliding motions between total knee replacement materials is a suspected primary wear mechanism of ultra-high molecular weight poly(ethylene) (UHMWPE). Method of Approach: A wear testing machine was developed to quantify damage from crossing contact pathways on candidate biomaterials. A cyclic five-pointed star pattern was used to evaluate the tribological differences between linear and cross-motion surface tribology of stainless steel pins on flat UHMWPE. Results: Volumetric reconstruction of resultant damage showed that cross-shear volume loss was 2.94(± 0.88) ti

Abstract:
Nonlinear propagation of shock waves through periodic structures have the potential to exhibit interesting phenomena. Frequency content of the shock that lies within a bandgap of the periodic structure is strongly attenuated, but nonlinear frequency-frequency interactions pumps energy back into those bands. To investigate the relative importance of these propagation phenomena, numerical experiments using the Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov (KZK) equation are carried out. Two-dimensional propagation through a periodic array of rectangular waveguides is per-formed by iteratively using the output

Abstract:
The Caribbean Region Quarterly Bulletin discusses recent economic developments in the 6 IDB-member Caribbean countries, as well as the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The countries are: The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. In the Special Country Reports, we look at credit ratings in the Caribbean. In line with challenging economic developments, credit ratings have been under pressure in several Caribbean countries. Weak fiscal situations, structural current account deficits, and vulnerability to external shocks all have put pressure on the
