Abstract:
Effective linen management is important in maintaining hygiene and comfort for patients in institutions as important as the Benguet General Hospital. This study addresses a critical research gap in hospital linen management, offering valuable insights into the challenges and best practices specific to Benguet General Hospital. By focusing on both operational efficiency and sustainability, the study contributes to the broader body of knowledge on healthcare linen management and provides practical recommendations. Through interviews with key stakeholders, this qualitative study explores the practices and challenges associated with effective Linen management at BeGH. The findings suggest that strict sorting, frequent inventory, and hygiene procedures were the critical practices at BeGH toward ensuring the availability of clean linens and reducing infection risks. Nevertheless, considering the efforts made, challenges associated with the shortage of linens during patient transfers and the inability to trace misplaced linens persist and point out the need for improved operational strategies.

Abstract:
Bed linen is the material laid above the mattress of a bed that serves various purposes – hygiene, warmth, protection of the mattress – and also has a decorative effect in the room. According to several studies, the type of bed linen used for our sleep has a direct effect on our health; in other words, sleep quality is the ultimate performance indicator of bed linen cloth. In this research work, a relationship between bed linen properties and sleep quality was established. Bed linens serve as a basic requirement for sleep, and assessing the right kind of sheet is an important aspect to look into. Analyzing the basic properties of bed linen is an important exercise to perform in order to provide the user with the best-quality sleep. This research focuses on deriving an equation that can be applied to calculate the objective measurement of sleep quality with respect to bed linen properties by developing a bed linen sleep quality index. Questionnaires were designed and subjective evaluation method was followed. A panel of experts was considered for a subjective rating of bed linen properties, their weightage, ranking and bed linen fabrics assessment. Coefficient of concordance was calculated to determine the agreement among the judges and a discriminant analysis was also carried out to determine the variation of the individual rating for a particular property. The results showed a high correlation between the subjective index and the objective index for the bed linen fabric samples. Thus, the objective sleep quality index could be estimated well.

Abstract:
Abstract Few can dispute the tremendous values of linen, which is one of nature’s greatest treasures. Linen is a longer-staple category, and as such the fibre is spun on a long-fibre spinning system. Due to the coarseness and stiffness of the fibre, linen fabrics are subjected to a strong bleaching action to reduce the stiffness of the fabric. Linen is also blended with other compatible natural and manmade fibres to achieve various structural and functional properties, and also to reduce costs. Fabrics produced from 100% linen and their blends with cotton and viscose have been studied for handle and comfort properties. Linen fabrics produce excellent aesthetic and drape properties. Linen fabrics are found to be tougher than cotton and other blends. However, linen offers the highest tensile resilience and the lowest friction coefficient under low stress-loading conditions. Linen fabric produces superior primary hand with respect to Fukurami and Shari. The total hand value (THV) of processed linen fabric is higher than that of cotton fabric as a summer wear. The blending of viscose and cotton improves the hand value of linen fabric.

Abstract:
Purpose: The care of linen is paramount in hotel operations for its sustainability. The study sought to investigate linen care strategies in some selected star-category hotels in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The objectives of the study were to examine the strategies used in the care of linen and their effect on guest satisfaction and to test if a relationship exists between them. Materials and Methods: The study employed descriptive survey design by the use of quantitative and qualitative approaches. Through purposive sampling, a sample size of 52 hotel employees was selected from 24 star-rated hotels. Structured questionnaire and observations were used to collect data. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26 was used for the data analysis. Means and standard deviations were used for the descriptive statistics. Multiple linear regression was employed for the inferential statistics. The hypothesis was tested at a 5% significance level. Thus, data were presented in tables and text for both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The study findings were that hotels operated On-premise laundry systems. Outsourcing of linen from commercial service providers was absent. Linen inventory control was done through stock-taking and record-keeping. Hotels followed the laundry processes (sorting dirty clothes, putting dirty apparel in a machine or hand wash, applying detergent, drying the washed articles on the line or in a tumble dryer, ironing, folding and storage of laundered articles) but were not diligent with the manufacturer’s instructions. The linen reuse programme was mostly not through designed cards. Available laundry tools/equipment were laundry bins, washing machines/extractors, washing basins, drying lines, ironing boards and irons. Tools/equipment not available were tables/shelves for sorting linen, tumbler dryers, calendaring machines, industrial steam irons and a laundry folder. Linen care strategies had a significant effect on guest satisfaction (R = 0.671, R2 = 0.451, F = 3.828, p = 0.001). The hypothesis that linen care strategies do not have any significant effect on guest satisfaction among hotels in the Upper East Region of Ghana was rejected (P = 0.0001< 0.05). Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study employed Management Administrative Theory and Practice Theory. Through the application of management functions, thus, forecasting and planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling; hotel leaderships are in a better position to increase efficiency through the creation of organisational structures. Through the administrative structures, housekeeping supervisors can suggest and monitor the care and maintenance of linen. About the Practice theory, if hotels identify linen care strategies that make sense to their operations and do so religiously through principles and procedures; higher standards of various care strategies could be attained to promote the hotel business.

Abstract:
Purpose: Linen as launderable textiles is indispensable in the hotel business. Guests pay for hotel services rendered and deserve quality linen. Linen (bed linen, bath linen, guest room curtains) is expected to be clean, crisp, spotless, attractive and comfortable. Linen quality can be attributable to the fibre of fabric, care and maintenance. Thus, the study investigated linen quality and guest satisfaction in star-rated hotels in Upper East Region of Ghana. The reference was on the relationship that exists between linen quality and guest satisfaction and to test if any association existed between them. Methodology: The study employed a descriptive survey research design. A sample of 327 guests was sampled using a random sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Analysis of data was done by the use of SPSS version 26. Data were presented using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics were frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations. For the inferential statistics, Spearman’s Rank-Order correlation was used to determine the relationships, directions, and magnitude among the study variables. The regression model was used for testing the hypotheses. The hypothesis was tested at a 5% level of significance. Findings: The findings revealed an association existed between linen quality and guest satisfaction with a moderate positive correlation (r =.04 to .52) and statistically significant (R2 =.197, F(2, 324) = 39.80, β = .522, p = .000). The hypothesis there is no association between linen quality and guest satisfaction was rejected at 95% confidence level. The study concluded linen quality significantly influences guest satisfaction. However, the predictor variable (linen quality) explained approximately 19.2% of the variations in guests’ satisfaction. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study employed Expectancy-Disconfirmation Paradigm (EDP) model. The expected clean, comfortable and adequate linen met the expectation of the guests for satisfaction to occur. The study recommended stakeholders in the hotel industry should continuously ensure standards on linen quality to improve guest satisfaction. It is suggested the hotel management should purpose to provide quality linen and ensure proper care and maintenance of linen through effective supervision. The study as well calls for the Ghana Tourism Authority, the regulatory body for hotel activities to set standards and intensify monitoring activities regarding the quality of linen presented to guests. As an avenue for the hotels to acquire more knowledge, skills and a better attitude towards the handling of linen, the government of Ghana can institute policies on training on linen management.

Abstract:
Health needs to be supported by non-medical services, one of which is the laundry installation. In this hospital laundry unit, it was found that linen management was still not in accordance with applicable procedures. Based on an initial survey, a problem was found, namely 561 linen declared missing in November 2022, but it turned out that in December 2022 the linen was in the room after monitoring. So this study aims to determine the description of linen management in the laundry unit. This study uses a qualitative approach with interview and observation methods with 10 informants to obtain research results. The results of this study in the human resources section of linen management training, facilities and infrastructure still do not meet the standards. In the procedure of the linen distribution stage, it was found that the recording of clean linen out was not completely filled in. For policies in the laundry unit already exist. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that linen management, namely the flow/process of linen management in the laundry unit, is not in accordance with existing standards. Suggestions for laundry officers to better comply with the SPO for linen management so that there is no recurrence of errors in recording which results in the amount of linen needed in the hospital.

Abstract:
This article relates the dimensional stability of fabrics made from linen. More precisely in this work we find the shrinkage’s evolution and shrinkage of linen fabrics after washing and drying. To do this, several articles made of linen are studied in order to have a better appreciation of the behavior of linen fabrics. Knowing that the reference values for the study of dimensional stability are the width defined in centimeters (cm), the initial dimension and the dimension after washing the sample in centimeters and the difference illustrated in percentage. This percentage which reflects the elongation or shrinkage of the fabric is shown by equations which represent the mathematical models of the dimensional stability of the linen fabric. During this study, two types of sample groups are considered: dyed linen fabrics and white linen fabrics. When mathematically modeling dimensional stability, the accuracy of the models are defined by the respective relative and absolute errors.

Abstract:
The indigo dyed linen textiles are one of the most popular textiles in most of historical periods in the Egyptian civilization. This study aims to investigate the role of indigo dye in preventing, reducing or inhibiting the deterioration of ancient Egyptian linen textiles. In this study linen textiles were experimentally dyed by indigo dye. Undyed and dyed linen were artificially aged by light, heat, soil and fungi. The change in the physical and chemical properties of the undyed and indigo-dyed linen textiles after being artificially aged were determined by various methods such as tensile strength and elongation, the crystallinity index (CrI) by using X-ray diffraction, the surface morphology by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and spectrophotometric measurements of the colour were calculated. The results confirm that indigo dye inhibits and reduces the deterioration of linen textiles. These results confirm that indigo dyed linen textiles are more durable than undyed ones. They may explain why archaeologists discover dyed linen textiles in better condition than undyed ones. Also, they explain why the Museums in Egypt have dyed linen textiles in better quality than undyed ones.

Abstract:
This paper has focused on moisture management (MMT) and air permeability properties of fabrics produced from linen (100%) and linen-polyester yarns (80% polyester and 20% linen) at different weft densities. In the experimental study, eighteen different types of fabrics composed of six different weft yarns with three levels of weft density (weft density of 8,10 &12 pick/cm for 100% linen fabrics and 14,16,18 pick/cm for polyester-linen fabrics) were selected in order to determine the influence of weft density and yarn structural parameters (number of yarn folds) on moisture management as well as air permeability properties. The following weft yarns were selected: 104/1 tex, 104/2 tex & 104/3 tex for 100% linen and 41/1 tex, 41/2 tex & 41/3 tex for 80% Polyester – 20% linen fabrics, whereas the warp yarn was constant – 50/1 tex 100% linen for all fabric types. Satin type fabrics were subjected to moisture management tests and air permeability tests as well. According to test results, it was determined that some of the moisture management (wetting time, absorption rate (%/s) and one-way accumulative transport index of the fabrics’ top surfaces and bottom surfaces) and air permeability properties were significantly affected by the number of yarn folds and the weft density at a 0.05 significance level.
