Abstract:
In modern media, materials which are characterized by skillful organization of language tools to reveal the topic and focus on the recipient, are highly valued. Having professional journalistic skills and a thorough knowledge of the language helps to create texts according to such requirements. Actual in this context is the formation of skills in the years of study related to the observation of the linguistic and stylistic skills of practicing journalists. The purpose of the article is to present the sequence and example of linguistic-stylistic analysis of a journalistic text to clarify the place and role of word-forming and morphological means that form the semantic background and communicative orientation of the message. Methodological bases of linguistic and stylistic analysis of word-forming and morphological means are a set of approaches that take into account: selection of the publication according to certain criteria (relevance of the topic, genre, authorship, etc.); the structure of tokens and grammatical features of individual parts of speech that create the semantic and stylistic expressiveness of a particular journalistic text. Among the research methods are linguistic analysis, compositional-textual and functional-semantic analysis, the method of establishing semantic-functional paradigms, the quantitative method, and others. Results of the research. A linguistic and stylistic analysis of O. Suprunenko’s publication «Chym Pakhne Yevropa» («What does Europe smell like?») (Post-Postup. 2008) demonstrates the course of consideration of word-forming and part-of-speech means of a professional text; shows a way of coherent and consistent presentation of their own observations and opinions. In the analyzed text there is objective information, which includes specific names, words with direct meaning, construction terminology, quotes. Subjective information is the author’s reasoning about the topic covered. The tone of its disclosure is informative and skeptical, which aims to provoke a corresponding reaction from the reader. Stylistic originality of the presentation of the theme is manifested in the use of appropriate linguistic and stylistic means: individual innovations, the expressive potential of grammatical categories of nouns, adjectives, verbs, as well as in the creation of ironic imagery. Stylistic analysis of the text by language levels is an effective means of forming language and speech competence, as it develops the skills of identifying stylistic means in the text and determining their functions to reveal the author’s intention. This form of work also has a research and creative purpose, as it encourages careful study of the stylistic potential of certain means of speech and independently explain their feasibility in a particular text.

Abstract:
Russian folk tale surprises with its rich vocabulary, colorful turns, and unusual stylistic methods. In order to plunge into the world of the Russian folk tale, in this article, we will analyze each feature separately and highlight more indicative features in each. The tale has a generalizing idea that has been developed over the centuries. In a fairy tale, artistic thought itself plays a huge role, and this unity is created thanks to certain means: repetitions, epithets, hyperbole, antithesis and other stylistic and compositional techniques. From the point of view of their stylistic specifics, Russian folk tales are taken a particular interest. Ergis G.U. argued that not only their content but also the stylistic features of the text serve as a means of moral education of the reader. The grammatical properties of units consist of: forms of words, phrases, sentences, order of units, grammatical meanings of forms, etc.

Abstract:
The article presents the theoretical substantiation of the methodological crisis of modern stylistics concerning the language of new media. The key factors and contradictions that explain the explanatory reduction of the theories of linguistic and stylistic norms as a single reference model for the selection and organization of linguistic means and literary language as the highest form of linguistic existence are revealed. The transition from national vertical conventionality in speech and norm-making to horizontal conventionality, conventionality of Internet communities, is stimulated by the liberation of authorship (the possibility and reality of introducing an unlimited range of language personalities to free public textual activity) in new media, as well as the change of the constructive principle of social communication in the Internet media sphere as a whole from hierarchical to network, heterarchic. The definition of new media as any information and communication resources of the Internet with the qualities of public distribution and free communication of users in the form of receptive and productive textual activity is proposed as one of the topical for stylistics.

Abstract:
Intensive exchange of scientific and technical information, important role of English in the intercultural scientific communication actualize the task to provide the information easy to read and analyze. The paper deals with stylistic and functional peculiarities of modern English scientific and technical texts, namely of technical advertisement texts. The functions of English scientific and technical texts are analyzed. The article presents the analysis of the linguistic and extra linguistic means of realization of the text communicative function. Our research has shown that the main features of technical advertisement texts are objectivity, accurate and logical expressing, reliability and clarity. Emotionality and expressiveness are contrasting phenomenon in the texts of this genre. The purpose of technical advertisement texts was determined taking into consideration that the newest achievements and results of studies are presented in the most effective and convincing way affecting the reader’s mind and emotions. The author’s intention is to arouse the interest of the addressee, make them believe the author, urge them to act. The research proves that the influence on the readers is carried out by the use of epistemic and linguistic means. The epistemic means appeal to the special background knowledge of the addressee and include reliable scientific and technical facts. The obtained results show that the use of the emotional and expressive linguistic means has effect on the reader’s emotions, provides vividness and expressiveness to written communication. Emotional and expressive coloring is achieved by the use of syntactical structures of contrast and comparison, rhetorical questions, emphatic constructions, syntactical parallelism, subjunctive and imperative mood. The use of figurative linguistic means (metaphors, comparisons, idiomatic expressions) serves the expressiveness of the presentation in the text. We have come to the conclusion that functions of information and influence are closely connected, but here the information function prevails. Linguistic means of influence play an auxiliary, though important role: technical advertisement texts are characterized by combination of emotional, expressive and evaluative connotations with factual information.

Abstract:
The theme of the work is the mechanisms of implicit meanings verbalization infiction. The aim is to analyze stylistic convergence in the story of I.A. Bunin "The murderess" as an explication of subtext. The main methods are the following: denotative, chronotopic, stylistic, narrative, conceptual analysis. The main results identify stylistic mechanisms that provide an appropriate interpretation of the literary text. It is revealed that the stylistic convergence includes colorative gradation, parcelling, semantic-syntactic verbalization of perceptual concept, semantic-stylistic actualization of the "golden section", conceptual antonymy, semantic sound images. Implicit meanings are identified in the narrative development: stylistic techniques and mechanisms of implicit artistic meanings verbalization are distinguished in each macrosituation. The term "method" traditionally refers to the conscious using of stylistic means by the author; the term "mechanism" is understood as a synergistic process of organizing the text space as a result of interpretative operations. The described techniques and mechanisms add to the repertoire of artistic stylistics. The means of fiction temporality are nominated; the vertical chronotope in macrosituations is modelled. The special feature of Bunin's story composition is "the effect of eversion": it transfers the semantic emphasis from the criminal action to the assessment of this action. The analysis confirms ecphrasticityand visualization of the image of an icon of the phenomenon within the analyzed story. The main oppositions power / people is distinguished in the conceptual field. The role of stylistic device in the synergetic organization of the text is shown. The main conclusion is drawn that the implicitness, ambiguity and "multi-focus" of the author's assessment as a feature of Bunin's idiostyle is realized through the mechanism of stylistic convergence.

Abstract:
The article deals with the study of stylistic techniques and means of expression characteristic of English speech expression, the study of means and methods of communication of independent sentences, as well as phrasal units, ways to combine them into fragments and whole speech texts. The paper identifies and generalizes scientific approaches to the study of stylistic syntax techniques, analyzes syntactic constructions that have expressive potential and pragmatic orientation. It is established that the subject of syntactic stylistics is also the study of the specifics of the functioning of expressive means and techniques in complex linguistic texts. It is found that the stylistic technique is realized, as a rule, in the context of phrasal units, paragraph and whole text, and the interaction of sentence models in these contexts gives emotional and expressive meaning to the segments of speech that they form. Thus, stylistic devices based on formal and semantic interactions of several syntactic constructions or sentences in a particular context, is one of the richest sources of speech expression. These stylistic devices serve as a means of poetic syntax, and are widely used in fiction, journalism and are found in scientific language. Despite the fact that each stylistic device individually contributes to the overall expressiveness of the text, a greater effect is achieved through their interaction, and with the help of these stylistic devices, contact with the addressee is established, the emotional background and emphaticity of the text are enhanced. Therefore, expressive means and stylistic techniques of syntax, which are created both with the use of stylistically marked constructions and without their participation, are one of the richest means of stylistics of the English language. The considered cases of violation of the usual logic of syntactic connection of parts of a complex sentence, semantic differences between their usual and occasional use bring subjective motives into the text and are used with certain stylistic purposes, which due to functioning together have a greater effect.

Abstract Acting in treatment: A linguistic-stylistic study of correlations between language use and well-being The aim of this article is to show what a linguistic-stylistic approach can offer for the study of correlations between language use and well-being, in which quantitative and qualitative analysis go hand in hand. As a case study, we investigate whether there are differences in the language used by recovered and non-recovered adolescents who followed the online FitNet treatment for chronic fatique syndrome (CFS). More specifically, we analyzed whether there are differences between both groups in their use of five linguistic means that hide agency. Our results indicate that this is the case indeed: non-recovered patients used these linguistic means more often than recovered patients. In addition, both patient groups show a different development during the therapy: while non-recovered patients increased their use of these stylistic phenomena during the treatment, recovered patients decreased their use of these same phenomena. As such, our study shows that there is indeed a correlation between the use of certain formulations in the language used by patients with CFS and (a change in) their well-being. It is argued that the linguistic means that we investigated, could not have been analysed with a purely computational approach, and that a linguistic-stylistic approach is thus of added value for studying correlations between language use and recovery.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of writer’s individual style. It is carried out using linguostylistic analysis of the linguistic as well as stylistic and textual features typical for his works. In total, over 200 poems by Sergei Vasilyev-Borogonsky were analyzed, including verses and poems. Linguistic and stylistic as well as textual facts are based on 500 lines of poetry. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the idiostyle of the writer is mainly manifested at the syntactic level. At this level, the syntactic and semantic-syntactic means are distinguished, represented by stylistic figures and syntactic constructions. The most common syntactic means are the types of repetitions that create the rhythmic organization of the poetic text (anaphora, epiphora) and some syntactic constructions that testify to folklorism and high pathos of the stylistics of works (syntactic parallelism, rhetorical questions, addresses and exclamations). Both semantic and syntactic means are found in the continuous connection of repetitions structure with their semantics (antitheses, gradations and refrains). By means of poetic syntax, S.S. Vasilyev-Borogonsky creates artistic images, reveals the themes and ideological intentions of his works, and creates author’s lyrical digressions. They also serve as a means of creating the composition and rhythm of a poetic text. The novelty of this study results from the fact that the language and style of the Yakut poet and publicist, Sergei Vasilyev-Borogonsky, has not yet become an object of special study.

Abstract:
The mysterious world of Baroque poetry has scientific interest among both literary critics and linguists for a long time. However, despite some elaboration of the problem, there are some gaps that need linguistic and stylistic coverage. It determines the relevance of the consideration of expressive and pictorial means of different linguistic nature, manifested in the poetic works of the Baroque era. The purpose of the research is to identify and characterize the means of linguistic and artistic expression of the language of the Ukrainian Baroque poetic. Fundamental in the formation of a system of artistic means, realized in Baroque poetry at all levels of language, is a combination of rational and irrational principles. In the poetry of that time, the “atmosphere of the literary game” was consistently created, which was embodied with the help of certain linguistic and expressive units. The author concludes that Ukrainian Baroque poetry is characterized by the use of various tropes and stylistic figures, including assonance and alliteration, equiphony and metaphony, paronymic attraction and phonetic epanalepsis, sound imitation and capitalisation, metaphor and metonymy, comparison and epithets, personification and periphysis, hyperbole and meiosis, parallelism and gradation, antithesis and oxymoron, polyptoton and annomination, doubling and anadiplosis, anaphora and epiphora, homeothelium and chiasm, amplification and polysyndeton. Among them, the artists mostly used figures based on exaggeration, opposition, repetition, and metaphor. The masterful combination of different stylistic means ensured the creation of an expressive, unique and perfect linguistic and artistic picture of that time. The logical continuation of the started research is to find out the influence of the Baroque tradition of decorating the fabric of a poetic work on the further formation of the Ukrainian poetic language.

Abstract:
The study is devoted to the description of linguistic and stylistic means of satire construction in modern American animated series. The article deals with a detailed analysis of the linguistic and stylistic means that actualize the satiric and ironic meanings for a satire creation based on the examples of American series. Cartoonists often resort to satire as a unique genre of art to express direct or indirect criticism of the structure of modern society. Modern satirical cartoons contain vivid elements of parody and caricature. An obligatory consequence of satirical creativity is exposure and laughter. The methods of socio-political satire of modern animated serials are enhanced by the interplay of irony and sarcasm, hyperbole and grotesque, allegory and allusion, paraphrase and play on words. American animated series mirror modern reality, they reflect numerous facts of daily life and current environment touching their most critical sides: economics, politics, education, religion, ethnic issues, international ties and relations, interpersonal dealings. Socio-political satire is peculiar in that it does not spare not only the ruling branch of power, but also an ordinary, ordinary, gray person. In this dullness and ignorance of his, the average man in the street is ready to blindly obey the most ridiculous and absurd orders. Of course, an animated series cannot solve acute social or political problems facing society. But the fact that these questions are raised means that the problems are urgent. The purpose of such satire is to reflect on mistakes and not repeat them in the future. For example, South Park, Rick and Morty, Family Guy, F is for Family parody the modern family, social order, exaggerate social issues to the extreme. The relevance of this study is due to several reasons: first, the abundance of cartoon products on the modern film industry market. Secondly, the role that cartoons and serials play in the life of a modern person and in the culture of postmodernity. It is common knowledge that over the past few years, the TV series and animated series industry has changed a lot: streaming services (Netflix, Hulu and Amazon) appear, new formats are released, and more and more cartoon characters are voiced by famous actors. Thirdly, it is confirmed by the idea of the existence of the phenomenon of the "Big Serial Bang", expressed by Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Higher School of Economics V.A. Kurenniy. The fact that modern TV series are a cultural product that accurately reflects the spirit of the times remains an indisputable fact. Such a visual narrative fits perfectly into the framework of modern society.

Abstract:
In this article based on the story “Sokolinets”, the peculiarities of linguistic and stylistic manner of V.G. Korolenko are reviewed, the author’s preferences in the choice of means of expression and intensification of features which provide stylistic effect are observed. First of all, the denominative vocabulary expressing the extreme (ultimate) psychological and emotional states of the characters is marked and classified. The pronoun words and particles, which often interact with each other, creating expressive constructions with the meaning of gradation, high degree of feature manifestation, etc., are considered separately. The word-formation means, participating in the realization of author’s emotionality, strengthening of substantial and expressive sides of the utterance, are singled out. Some peculiarities of V.G. Korolenko's idiostyle are examined; the stylistic means which increase the expressiveness of the work, optimize the rhythmical-intonational structure of the poetic speech, saturate it with the semantic and stylistic information are classified. The types of repetitions attracted by the writer for the realization of his creative task and their role in the realization of the stylistic effect are determined.

W. Moers is a modern German writer whose main works are addressed to children. Their popularity has been gained not least by means of the language game, but often by the author’s idiostyle. Abstract:
The article is focused on the problem of the interconnection of the context and the evaluative utterance. Evaluation of different world’s fragments is, of course, a considerable part of human cognitive activity. Special attention is paid to signals-indicators, which can be linguistic and extralinguistic in nature. The present paper highlights the actualization of evaluative utterance in micrcontext, and macrocontexts of the minimum, average and maximum size. In the process of realization of the evaluative utterance within the frame of micrcontext, the linguistic context is based on signals-indicators, while the structure of the stylistic context consists of various semasiological and syntactic expressive means and stylistic devices. While updating the evaluation in macrocontexts of the minimum and average size, the linguistic context is frequently mixed, and the configuration of the stylistic context in most cases includes different semasiological and syntactic expressive means and stylistic devices; but the macrocontext of the maximum size is linguistic, and the stylistic context is only its background part. The results obtained confirm the idea that the correlation between the evaluative utterance and context helps to understand encoded in the evaluative utterances presuppositions of the communication that is the speaker's communicative intentions associated with his epistemic state.

This notion is under constant study in different fields of knowledge, such as philosophy, logics, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, linguistics, literature studies, etc. The paper aims to study approaches to the interpretation of the notion ‘interrogativity’ in linguistics in its different aspects; therefore, the above notion is analyzed in grammar, semantics, stylistics, functional stylistics, pragmatics, theory of speech acts. The author also analyzes the notion in a historical retrospective, providing philosophical and logical background of its appearance in linguistics, where it preserves its epistemological sense. From the linguistic point of view, the semantics, functions and formal ways of representation of the above notion in language are considered in the paper. In the aspect of grammar, formal ways of representation of the above category are analyzed. In the aspect of semantics, the content and various functions are under consideration. From the stylistic point of view, the role of interrogativity in texts of various functional styles (e. g. literary text, scientific text, official documents, journalistic text) is analyzed. Numerous research works concerning the notion of linguistic interrogativity claim that it may be either explicit or implicit. Explicit interrogativity means that the semantics of interrogation is presented in the text by formal means of a question (word order, intonation, question words), while implicit interrogativity presupposes interrogative semantics in statements.

Abstract:
The paper is focused on stylistic features of English fantasy texts. The research materials include four fantasy novels written by British and American authors of the late 20th century: Jordan’s The Eye of the World, Martin’s A Game of Thrones, Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The research question of the study lies in need to systematize expressive means and stylistic devices used in the texts and distinguish the common stylistic features of English fantasy texts. To do this, the researchers implement the notion of a stylistic portrait of English fantasy text, and the main aim of the paper is to provide its definition and description. The study employed the complex of linguistic research methods, including analysis and generalization of theoretical sources, contextual analysis and the elements of quantitative analysis of linguistic units used in the texts. Based on three essential aspects of a stylistic portrait, the paper shows that the English fantasy texts are characterized by the dominance of expressive means and stylistic devices at the syntactic level of language. In addition, the researchers identified the most productive stylistically marked linguistic units at each level of language correlated with the semantic field within which they functioned, and studied connotative dominants in these texts.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the functioning and creation of metaphors in the poetry of Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuri Izdrik and Serhiy Zhadan. The main contradiction in the understanding of metaphor lies in the ambiguous essence of this phenomenon: on the one and, metaphor is a means of speech, a linguistic unit, and on the other – it belongs to the figurative figures of language. A number of linguistic works in both Ukrainian and foreign linguistics are devoted to the study of metaphors. In particular, the language metaphor became the subject of scientific interest of N. Harutyunova; metaphor, its nature and role in language, and speech were studied by A. Gavrilyuk, the means of expression of metaphor became the main topic of research G. Sklyarevskaya and others. One of the important problems of linguistic stylistics is the study of the linguistic personality of writers, whose works are one of the stylistic sources of development of Ukrainian poetic language, so the importance of metaphor in poetic texts remains a relevant object of modern linguistic studies. The purpose of the article is to determine the features of semantics and the functioning of conceptual-semantic and structural-grammatical types of metaphors in the collections "Second Attempt" by Oksana Zabuzhko, "Quote Book" by Serhiy Zhadan and "Lazy and Gentle" by Yuri Izdryk. In accordance with the purpose, the following research methods were used: descriptive, using the methods of comparison and observation, as well as external and internal interpretation of linguistic material to determine the associations underlying metaphorical transference, contextual, conceptual and semasiological to analyze metaphor in the context of a poetry of postmodern writers. The article also clarifies the concept of metaphor and establishes its feature as a semantic linguistic unit. The focus is on the classification of metaphors used in the works of postmodern poets. The stylistic role and functions of language metaphors in poetic texts are investigated. This article can be used for further research in the field of conceptual metaphors in novel or poems.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of linguistic means of realizing pejoration in the novels by S. Mayer. The topicality of the study is caused by scholarly necessity and importance of studying pejoration from anthropocentric viewpoint, since this vocabulary is rapidly developing and requires analysis and research from different positions. Moreover, the emotive component and the evaluative category in pejoratives have been insufficiently studied. The following definition of pejoratives has been put forward: they are lexemes that have negative, emotionally loaded expressive evaluation and create preconditions for the achievement of an illocutionary goal. They belong to the low style, have a synonym in neutral vocabulary register, have denotative and connotative components of meaning, are prone to change the sign of evaluation, in terms of hybrid semantics have both truth-conditional and use-conditional components and are contextually preconditioned. Vocabulary, the pejorative meaning of which is denotatively registered in lexicographic sources is determined as absolute. Pejoratives, whose meaning is not lexicographically registered, are classified as relative. Semantic field of pejorative vocabulary corpus consists of the nucleus, close and distant periphery. All means of distant periphery serve as intensifiers of pejorative meaning. On the semantic level pejoratives may function as a metaphor, epithet, oxymoron, hyperbole, litote, metonymy, simile, irony and sarcasm. On the syntactic level pejorative vocabulary is integrated into interrogative constructions, inversions, syntactic reductions, stylistic repetitions, antithesis, and word-play. The degree of expressiveness of pejorative meaning has been estimated by means of Likert scale, and it includes the following items: punctuation, semantic and stylistic means, syntactic and stylistic means, graphic symbols, nonce-words and adj/adv + n structure. Pragmatic analysis has yielded the following result: pejoratives are potentially manipulative linguistic means.

Abstract:
This article studies expressive syntax as a type of stylistic devices and illustrates its use in publicistic style economic oral and written media reports. The relevance of the research is that syntactic expressive means have not been thoroughly studied and analyzed in economic mass media. The work aims to identify the techniques that apply syntactic expressive means to evoke emotiveness in economic media reports. This article also addresses the recurrence of usage of expressive syntax in written and oral speech involving economic discourse. Using the method of text analysis on the bases of theoretical linguistic statements evaluating functional style, media stylistics, and stylistic devices in the English language, we determined the diverse usage of expressive syntax in both videocasting and written articles. From analyzed syntactic expressive means, we identified the frequency and common usage of such syntactic expressive means as rhetorical question and simple repetition in oral and written reports. The sample analysis indicated that a paragraph in any economic report might restrain more than one occurrence of expressive syntax; these carry a manipulative function through psychological phenomena represented via syntactic expressive means.

Abstract:
Purpose. The article is devoted to the study of the authorʼs stylistics by Yevhen Hutsalo, in particular to the identification of the linguistic and stylistic dominants of the writerʼs bizarre tdiscourse. The material of the study was a bizarre trilogy of the writer «Borrowed Man», «Private Life of the Phenomenon», «Parade of Planets». Research methods. The research is based on general scientific methods, using inductive and descriptive-analytical methods – for the accumulation, systematization and analysis of factual material; method of phraseological analysis – to identify the phraseology of the phrase; structural and semantic methods – for the analysis of textual integration of phraseology; the method of comparative analysis is used to compare casual and occasional phraseological units; the method of contextual analysis was used to establish the authorʼs intentions and text-forming potentials of transformed phraseology. Results. The authorʼs linguistic and stylistic organization of Yevhen Hutsaloʼs bizarre trilogy is analyzed, its linguistic and stylistic dominants, which appear as text-forming, plotforming and genre-forming factors of Yevhen Hutsaloʼs bizarre discourse, are determined. Their typological manifestations and expressive-pragmatic functions in the text space of the studied chimera are determined. It is revealed that the writer uses structural-semantic transformations and semantic modifications of phraseology, occasional phraseology, synonymization of phraseological units, authorʼs aphorisms, authorʼs paraphrasing and title creation productively to create a chimerical modality of the literary-art text. Conclusions. Itʼs established that the verbalizers of the authorʼs pretentiousness by Yevhen Hutsalo are a complex system of lexical and phraseological means with the dominance of different manifestations of the authorʼs modification of phraseological units. The most significant in the context of the stylistic dominance of pretentiousness are the semantic modification of phraseology, in particular the reception of double actualization, expanded phraseological metaphor, and structural-semantic transformation of phraseology, in particular the reception of phraseological hints, capable of directing. In order to enhance the linguistic-art expressiveness of bizarre novels, the writer productively uses the synonymization of phraseology, to realize the harmony of form and content uses the authorʼs paraphrasing and authorʼs aphorisms.

The article deals with the analysis of graphic-stylistic means of the language, such as punctuation, functioning in modern English based on the language material of literary and media texts (on-line site of The Guardian). The aim of the paper is to reveal some actual functional characteristics of punctuation marks compared with their traditional syntactic and stylistic usage. The linguistic analysis is conducted within the methodology of semantic and syntactic interpretation and description. The following new functional usage of punctuation marks is described: the playing (ludic) function (creating an ironic, comic or parody effect in communication) and the expressive function emphasizing the semantics of an element in a communicative context. The importance of the undertaken analysis is to show the necessity of studying the English punctuation functions from the point of view of modern theory of communication and media linguistics as well as with an empirical educational purpose of teaching the English grammar.

Abstract:
The article analyzes various concepts that occur in the paradigm of modern scientific approaches to pun. Currently, there is no clear opinion among researchers regarding the definition of the essence of this stylistic approach. Therefore, in linguistics, scientists interpret such a stylistic approach as a pun from different sides. A pun is also called a sharp word or a language game. It is described in the form of a stylistic turn or miniatures based on the play of words, their sound similarities in different meanings, a concept that gives a comic tone to speech. Despite the ambiguity of the origin of the word pun, modern lexicographic publications recognize it as a word that unwittingly gives ambiguity, is prone to humor, and is similar in sound, caused by homonymy. Indeed, the language game of pun is based on homonyms that sound the same but have different meanings. By its very nature, wordplay is a kind of short-form pun. Pun is one of the ways to enrich the language and word formation, which is an effective means of learning the capabilities of the language. Therefore, it is proved that a pun is one of the ways to create a new image by transforming the formed language material.

Abstract:
The article considers stylistic devices in the essay of Ye. Sverstyuk “Cathedral in Scaffolding” as important linguistic means of expressiveness and logic organization of the publicistic text. Studying the category of expressiveness, which is provided by language means, is especially relevant for the study of the journalistic style genres, which perform two main interrelated functions – informing and affecting the reader. The purpose of the research is to analyze stylistic devices in Yevhen Sverstiuk’s essay “Cathedral in Scaffoldingˮ as important linguistic means of the logical and emotionally-expressive organization of the text. The emphasis is laid on the analysis of the figures of speech, most inherent in the intellectual and polemic style of the author’s narrative, namely, antithesis, parcelling, rhetorical questions, inversion, and stylistic devices of repetition (anaphora, epiphora), composite links. Stylistic devices make the text logical and expressive. The logical function of a stylistic device provides information correctness of the text, promotes its division into semantic segments/ fragments. The expressiveness is achieved by mental operations of convergence or opposition of concepts due to skillful changes of the author’s language tactics and results in the enhanced influence on the reader. Ye. Sverstyuk uses stylistic figures to draw the attention of the addressee (by highlighting keywords), to emphasize his point of view and provide the coherence of the discourse.

The article examines means for constructing identities in legal informal discourse on Internet memes corpus. The aim of our research is to establish the regularities in the ways of identity constructions through the categorical oppositions and the stylistic means. The background of the research is the socio-constructionist and critical discourse-analysis approaches. We applied a methodology that integrates two approaches: a critical discourse analysis, as well as methods of humour analysis developed within the framework of a semantic approach to humour based on scripts (Script-based Semantic Theory of Humour (SSTH)). This involved identifying the subject positions based on linguistic and contextual analysis; examination of universal ways of how identities are expressed in informal legal discourse. The focus of our analysis was on the stylistic means that implement a certain way of professional identity construction. Our analysis indicated that identities appear fragmentary and are constructed with the means of different discourses; the central one is the professional legal, which is compared or contrasted to everyday discourse, informal, advertising and even “mom’s” discourse. The list of linguistic resources varies from legal terminology and neutral vocabulary to colloquial and thieves’ and mothers’ slang and invective vocabulary. The study expands the field of knowledge about the ways, stylistic and linguistic means of constructing professional identity through various possibilities of discursive subjects positioning.

Abstract:
A notion of a film text is currently an object of scientific research, which is caused by a rapid development of cinematic art within the last century and an increasing attention of scientists to a linguistic constituent of this phenomenon. The film text is one of the most important displays of a media text. In a film text, two semiotic systems are present, linguistic and non-linguistic ones, which operate signs of different kinds. The linguistic system of the film text is serviced by sign-symbols, created from an establishment of a connection between something, which is being explained, and something, which is explained based on a conditional agreement. It is represented by two components: written one (credits, captions which constitute a part of a movie universe) and oral one (an actor’s speech, a voice-over, a song, etc.), which are expressed with the help of symbolic signs – words of a natural everyday language. An investigation of a political fiction movie text belongs to modern explorations of text stylistics in the direction of description and standardization of the system of speech genres in the field of linguistics and literature studies. Also, this investigation describes stylistic and translation aspects of a linguistic part of a political fiction movie text. The article considers stylistic indications of a political fiction movie text and ways of their translation. A political fiction movie communicates to the audience a political stance and a worldview, or makes it aware of political problems. During the translation of a political fiction movie, the author of the translation takes into consideration the stylistic tonality of the text, which, contrary to the phonetic one, represents in itself the concentrate of expressive means of the original text. In the case of a political movie, this is about stylistic dramatic-epic tonality. The main task for the translator of a political movie is to skillfully carry out translation transformations, for the translation text to convey all the information contained in the original text with the maximum possible accuracy. The most effective transformations in the Ukrainian translation of the analyzed fiction movie are: contextual lexical-semantic substitution, concretization, word-for-word translation, synonymic translation, syntactic omission of a part of a sentence, syntactic replacement in a word combination structure, grammatical replacement.

Previous literary studies on the revision of “Leda and the Swan” by William B. Yeats are mainly concerned with its psychological, social and historical implications conveyed by the relationship between Leda and the swan, and seldom explain the realization of this relationship in linguistic terms and its reception by the readership. Stylistic studies can furnish linguistic evidence for literary interpretation. Building on previous literary criticism and stylistic analysis, this study takes the first stanza as an example and conducts a cognitive stylistic analysis of the poem’s three versions by means of Langacker’s reference point model and dynamic discourse analysis framework. The poet’s aspiration to achieve subtle balance in the relationship through syntactic and semantic alteration is thus better understood and the possibility of applying Langacker’s cognitive grammar to stylistic analysis of poetry is tentatively explored.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of linguistic means of sacrality as a style category, covering the solemnly elevated, traditionally established register of expressive linguistic means that hold the dominant values of the figurative book syntagms of religious style. Particular attention is paid to the unveiling of the stylistic potential of biblical words and expressions in the early speech-making of Maksym Rylskyi. The linguistic mechanisms of sacrality as a means of creating linguistic color, solemn, sublime, aesthetic perfection, positively-valued sounding of a poetic word are revealed. Performing stylistic, compositional, pragmatic functions in the artistic text, the sacral units are expressions of the individual-authorial reception of the values. Traditional artistic means of expressing sacrality in Maksym Rylskyi’s language are biblical words and phraseologisms, which are included in the registers not only of dictionaries of biblical words and expressions, but also of common phraseological and interpretative dictionaries dominant in the figurative book syntagms of the religious style and at the same time the expression of the gravity of the spiritual memory of the nation. In poetic contexts biblical words and expressions often acquire a metaphorical, lyrical sound, attesting to the sacral desemantization of lexemes, but instead actualizing implicit linguistic semantics.

Linguistic creativity is currently attracting a lot of scientific attention. Such scientists as V. P. Korovushkin, J. Falojou, O. K. Iriskhanova, A. V. Galkina, and V. Z. Demyankov define linguistic creativity as a person's ability to create and use original, non-standard linguistic means and techniques, which is mainly used in personal discourse, i.e. in fiction narrative, everyday speech, or phatic discourse. The present research featured authentic linguistic creativity in the modern comic book series called "Besoboi". Authentic linguistic creativity means the author's ability to use and generate new original, non-standard linguistic means, and techniques, or to commit deliberate linguistic violations at various language levels in their own text. The research objective was to identify and describe linguistic means, techniques, and violations that make up the linguistic creativity in the text of the Russian comic book series "Besoboi". The author analyzed works by Russian and foreign scientists in the field of linguistic creativity, fiction, and language violations. The study was based on the methods of description, interpretation, comparison, and generalization. The author's linguistic creativity manifested itself in the comic book as an ability to generate innovative words and use such stylistic devices as parody, oxymoron, alliteration, lithotes, hyperbole, pun, etc. In addition, the text contained a lot of original idioms, epithets, and similes. However, there is a tendency to classify many of these expressive means and techniques as linguistic violations, grammatical or stylistic. The author's creativity also manifested itself in the fictional world, unusual plots, new types of heroes, e.g. a superhero with mystical abilities, demons, etc. All linguistic transformations on the level of phonetics, spelling, derivation, vocabulary, and grammar are deliberate, and so are the communicative deviations, as the author generates and uses them deliberately to achieve a certain effect.

Abstract:
This article describes the semantic features, stylistic means of English phraseological units related to sports. It has also been pointed out that the study of the interrelationship of terminology and phraseology is one of the new and at the same time topical issues of modern linguistics. In linguistics, there are such stable, stable phrases that create the sensitivity and imagery of speech, the emergence of which is strongly associated with people's views and attitudes towards things and events in objective existence. Members of society use linguistic means based on various comparisons in order to express their views and attitudes towards things in an exciting, figurative and influential way. In this sense, the person, thing, event, and scene depicted is often interpreted through images or analogies that are familiar to the listener. As a result, the effect and image of speech become stronger and larger. We know that phraseological units and stylistic devices are among such tools that increase the effectiveness of speech.

Abstract:
The aim of this article is to present an overview of the stylistic measures identifiable in the dialogues of two films whose screenplays were written by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert – Body (2015) and Mug (2017). The analysis of linguistic and stylistic means has been organised into three categories that can be used to describe the work of this script-writing duo (in line with Adam Kruk’s critical proposition): deliberate schematicity, social hearing (as a metaphor for social sensitivity) and mockery. In the linguistic layer of these films, schematicity comes to the fore through the accumulation of homogeneous linguistic means (especially from the emotional register of colloquial Polish) and contrasting juxtapositions of various social variants of the language. The social hearing of Szumowska and Englert is revealed especially through the presence of linguistic templates, and mockery – in the linguistic joke and in the openly mocking statements of some of the characters. The analysis shows that the dialogues are another testimony to the stylish separateness of Szumowska and Englert and one of the ways to portray Poland as full of internal divisions.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to functional and stylistic features of advertising minitexts in English economic and political mass media and Internet sources. The scientific relevance of the topic is proved by the significant role of advertising in building up not only market relations but also cultural stereotypes and public opinion. Besides, the necessity arises to reveal the human linguistic consciousness potential of integrating different meanings and small forms of their verbalization, as the trend towards contracting speech acts is gaining momentum in both oral and written communication. Hence, advertising texts make a proper object of analysis since the need for quick catching of the customers attention and saving money on publication space determines advertisements small volume. The authors set the purpose of analysing the stylistic features of advertising minitexts in economic and political sources in terms of the formation of their discursive features. Methods of discourse functional analysis, descriptive and contextual analyses are implemented thereto. The article addresses the issue of correlation between text and discourse with regard to the advertising linguistic status, types of advertising texts, extralinguistic factors (including psychographic and demographic profiles of consumers) determining the choice of means that actualise advertising discourse functions. The analysis focuses on the expressive means forming peculiar advertising stylistics and special pragmatic increments aimed at making efficient impacts on the recipient. The findings of the empiric analysis are presented in reference to such expressive means as metaphors, allusions, wordplay, antithesis, etc. The prevalence of metaphors, epithets and hyperbole as the most frequent stylistic devices in advertising discourse has been revealed. The authors conclude that discursive features of the texts under analysis are actualized in pragmasemantic increments which are not inferred from speech elements direct meanings alone but are synergistically formed in advertising functional space in the course of text generation and perception based on the communicating parties living backgrounds.

Abstract:
Based on the official data from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing the present paper gives a comprehensive and clear idea of the current state of the cosmetics industry in China, thus, rising a question of advertising campaign efficiency focused on promotion of culture-oriented advertising texts. The paper explores linguistic and cognitive peculiarities of Chinese cosmetics advertising in the context of its functional specificity. By referring to such researchers as E. V. Medvedeva, U. V. Rozhdestvensky, and by tracing the etymological meaning of the word «advertising» the authors determine the influence function as the dominant one of the advertising text and conclude that influence function is performed through the following functional speech effects: clarity, emotional empathy effect, trust, dialogue and presence, i.e. all five featured in numerous verbal and non-verbal means of the language. The necessity of applying the linguistic and cognitive approach is thus determined. As part of this study, the linguistic and cognitive approach involves the analysis of lexical-semantic content, stylistic features, and cognitive, that is, national-specific, means of speech of advertising texts (slogans). The paper considers lexico-semantic features which include lexical transformations (loanwords and homonyms), wenyan vocabulary, expressive vocabulary, and the use of pronouns to address the potential consumer directly; stylistic features which include various figures of speech: parallelism and antithesis, rhyme and metaphors. The cognitive peculiarities refer to culture-specific national, philosophical and religious concepts, which emphasize the national identity and world view peculiarity of a Chinese customer. The paper presents the results of the investigation, and manifests the apparent relation between the above-mentioned features and the way a Chinese consumer percepts the advertising information. In other words, the paper determines the linguistic and cognitive peculiarities of the influence on a consumer, which is the dominant function of advertising. In conclusion, the authors outline the research prospects. It is supposed that the results of current investigation may contribute to the development of marketing strategies on promoting cosmetic products in China, as well as may be applied to designing specialized stylistics, lexicology, and cognitive linguistics courses. The data of this research may also provide some supplementary information for developing advertising and marketing courses.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the inaugural speeches of Vladimir Putin (2018) and Donald Trump (2017) and is aimed at analyzing the role of verbal means in forming the speech portraits of political leaders. The article is of urgent interest as it demonstrates the speech portraits of country leaders in relation to national identity, mentality and socio-political course of the country. By means of comparative content analysis we looked for grammatical, lexical and stylistic elements peculiar to a specific linguistic persona while comparing the speeches of the presidents as well as we attempted to determine the specific national backgrounds of political discourse. Thus, each president’s inauguration context model is mostly characterized by a different set of linguistic means. The paper findings may be useful for researchers who deal with interdisciplinary studies, political and cognitive linguistics, political discourse and communication analysis.

Abstract:
Paradox is one of the most mysterious and interesting phenomena, which is found in all languages and is studied in logical-philosophical, general linguistic, stylistic, rhetorical and aesthetic aspects. The reflection of nonsense on the real, logical relations of things inevitably leads to the linguistic norms violation. When the inconsistency of the linguistic norm brakes the conventional sense making schemes, resulting in an unusual and unexpected interpretation, paradox arises. Linguistic processes under the influence of the paradox in a fiction text acquire a special logic and meaning. The aim of the article is to identify and investigate the linguistic mechanism by which paradoxes are created and realized in the text of a fiction work; to consider the paradox as a means of meanings formation in the fiction text. The study was conducted at different linguistic levels: syntactic, lexico-grammatical, semantic, graphic, stylistic. The article focuses on the actualization of the contradiction in the fiction work, carried out at all linguistic levels in the form of compositional-syntactic or stylistic-morphological opposition. Linguistic means in together with the identified types of paradoxes create a unique storyline of the work under study. The paradox is considered as an artistic device to reveal the nature of the characters, situations, to achieve against the background of the contradiction in the fiction work a comic effect, implementing the subtle irony of the author. A special method of creating ambiguity is word play, leading to the game with the meaning, which can be both true and false. Playing with meaning generates imagery. This is proved by the presence of a variety of stylistic figures in the text of the fiction work, bright unusual metaphors, phraseological units. It was revealed that the moment of paradox realization in the fiction text coincides with the appearance of metaphors. Metaphorical thinking combines the absurd and logical, associating cognitive structures of past experience and new information, creating additional meanings. It is proved that paradox, like metaphor, possesses a unique potential for sense-making, and is a powerful stimulus for cognitive and creative activity.
