Abstract:
AbstractThe hyperbolic volume of a link complement is known to be unchanged when a half-twist is added to a link diagram, and a suitable 3-punctured sphere is present in the complement. We generalise this to the simplicial volume of link complements by analysing the corresponding toroidal decompositions. We then use it to prove a refined upper bound for the volume in terms of twists of various lengths for links.

According to the relationships of link lengths in crank-rocker linkages, the effective areas of link lengths for type I, type II and type III of the linkages were analyzed firstly. The relationship between the minimum transmission angles, extreme position angles and the link lengths were derived theoretically and drawn visually as variation trend maps and some conclusions are summarized. The conclusions can be used as guidance for optimal synthesis of crank-rocker linkages.

Abstract In this study, A reinforced concrete (RC) reference specimen with compressive strength of 250 kg/cm 2 and the weak RC specimen for seismic rehabilitation with compressive strength of 150 kg/cm2 were examined in two types of structures with 6 and 12-stories. The link beam lengths of 50, 80, and 100 cm have been used in 6 and 12-stories prototypes under the effect of 7 earthquake records. The nonlinear dynamic analyses are performed. In this paper, we consider the problem of planning any-angle paths with small numbers of turns on grid maps. We propose a novel heuristic search algorithm called Link* that returns paths containing fewer turns at the cost of slightly longer path lengths. Experimental results demonstrate that Link* can produce paths with fewer turns than other any-angle path planning algorithms while still maintaining comparable path lengths. Because it produces this type of path, artificial agents can take advantage of Link* when the cost of turns is expensive.

SUMMARYThe workspace is often a critical parameter for optimum design of parallel manipulators. Workspace shape and area are two important considerations under this. In this paper, 5-R and 3-RRR planar parallel manipulators having symmetric link lengths are considered for workspace analysis. Here, symmetric means that the lengths of the first and second links of the legs are the same in all branches. Workspace analysis for such manipulators is normally done in a nondimensional way. The determination of the workspace area is one of the important parameters in the optimum design of a manipulator

The leaves of the red juniper have a lancelet appearance and easily vary in different environmental conditions, for this reason we selected red juniper as the object of our studies and measured the length of leaves taken from different tiers. It was revealed that there is an inverse correlation between leaf lengths and altitude from the sea level.

This paper proposes a study on the workspace of the guiding device mechanism of a parallel topology robot. The kinematical scheme and the geometrical model of the guiding device mechanism of the parallel topology robot are presented. The lengths of binary links between the platforms determine the shape and the volume of the parallel robot’s workspace; different boundaries of the workspace are presented. Thus, variation of the workspace in both volume and shape is studied, depending on the binary link lengths, using for modeling and simulation SolidWorks software.

However, such relationships are harder to evaluate within species (i.e., where natural selection operates), largely for practical reasons, including low population variance in limb length, and the presence of confounding factors such as body mass, or trai

Abstract:
The Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP) is an international effort started in 2014 dedicated to achieving a better understanding of the link between dense-water formation and the meridional overturning circulation in the high-latitude North Atlantic. Moorings, gliders, and subsurface acoustically-tracked RAFOS floats have been used to collect temperature, salinity, and current data across the Labrador Sea, Irminger Sea, Reykjanes Ridge, Iceland Basin, Rockall-Hatton Plateau, and Rockall Trough. The specific objective of the OSNAP float program is to gather information on

Abstract:
There was a need to define the spatial density of stress-corrosion crack arrays that develop in operating gas-transmission pipelines and in laboratory test specimens of line-pipe steel, to improve understanding of the factors that control the density and provide data to test models of pipeline cracking. Within the broad definition of crack density are included the locations, numbers, lengths, depths, and degree of linkage of cracks. An analysis has been conducted of location, numbers, lengths, depths, and degree of linkage of stress-corrosion crack colonies in samples from the field and from l

Full text
Abstract:
To resolve the question as to whether or not ERW pipe might prove inferior to seamless pipe in terms of resistance to cyclic stresses, the PRCI member companies decided to fund the project described herein to assess the performance of ERW pipe versus seamless pipe. Presented herein are the results of a research project on the serviceability of seamless line pipe and modern high-frequency-welded ERW (electric-resistance-welded) line pipe. Full-scale samples of both kinds of pipe were subjected in a laboratory environment to pressure cycles simulating hundreds of years of service. Four samples o

Abstract:
The rapid growth in population and related demand for travel during the past few decades has had a catalytic effect on traffic congestion, air quality, and safety in many urban areas. Transportation managers and planners have planned for new facilities to cater to the needs of users of alternative modes of transportation (e.g., public transportation, walking, and bicycling) over the next decade. However, there are no widely accepted methods, nor there is enough evidence to justify whether such plans are instrumental in improving mobility of the transportation system. Therefore, this project re
