Link residual closeness (LRC) is a new sensitive characteristic for network vulnerability analysis. LRC measures the vulnerability even when the removal of links does not disconnect the network. In this paper, the robustness of wheel type network topologies is modeled and analyzed via LRC in the face of possible link destruction.

The study of human thermoregulation is one of the most developed areas of modern physiology and medicine. This is due to the important role of temperature in normal and pathological conditions. Directly or indirectly almost all systems and organs are involved in maintaining of relatively constant temperature in the body, since their normal functioning is closely related to the temperature of the internal environment (temperature homeostasis). Currently, the existence of two systems of thermoregulation is recognized: a physiological organ-based system with a center in the hypothalamus and a mol

Eutrophication as well as the removal of algae by the drinking water industry received dedicated attention in past three decades. An interdisciplinary approach will assist catchment and water purification managers to work to the same future – algal blooms in reservoirs dominated by the “ideal algae” which can be removed by conventional unit treatment processes. This paper will provide a futuristic picture of resource and product quality management, based on a historic perspective of eutrophication and algal removal research.

Weight thresholding (WT) is a method intended to decrease the number of links within weighted networks that may otherwise be excessively dense for network science applications. WT aims to remove links to simplify the network by holding most of the features of the original network. Here, we test the robustness and the efficacy of the node attack strategies on real-world networks subjected to WT that remove links of higher weight (strong links). We measure the network robustness along node removal with the largest connected component (LCC). We find that the real-world networks under study are ge

Abstract:
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are exposed to arsenic-contaminated drinking water, leading to significant health complications, and social and economic losses. Currently, a wide range of technologies exists to remove arsenic from water. However, despite ongoing research on such technologies, their widespread application remains limited. To bridge this gap, this review aims to compare the effectiveness and costs of various arsenic remediation technologies while considering their practical applicability. A search conducted using the Medline and Embase databases yielded 31 relevant arti

Abstract:
Parabens are Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) used as preservatives to stop the growth of microorganisms in cosmetics, personal care products and some processed foods. They can be ingested or absorbed through the skin and have been found in many body fluids and tissues, including in the breast. In laboratory studies, parabens were found to interfere with the female hormone oestrogen and increase the risk of mammary tumours in animals. However, only a limited number of human studies have been carried out and these are inconclusive regarding the possible link to breast cancer. Nonetheless,

Abstract:
In-ditch nondestructive material verification for yield strength and toughness has been a growing interest to the pipeline industry in the continuous efforts to further raise pipeline safety and efficiency. It can complement or substitute alternate techniques such as material extraction or hydrostatic pressure tests. This work is the first use of the Hardness, Strength, and Ductility (HSD) Tester by PRCI to measure the equivalent of the API 5L yield strength from only testing the out-side diameter surface of pipe joints without significant material removal. The procedure explicitly account for

Abstract:
Historically safe operation of thousands of miles of gas- transmission pipeline underscores the merits of hydrotesting. The hydrotest is applied to remove defects, which might exist in the line and could be critical in subsequent service. The hydrotest involves a proof pressurization that is designed to remove defects that could otherwise become critical in service by failing these defects during the time the line is held at the over-pressure. Water is used as the pressurization media to avoid the potential for running fracture, which is possible in cases where defects become critical during t

In July 2022, unprecedented demonstrations took place in Uzbekistan’s Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan. These demonstrations followed proposed constitutional amendments which would remove Karakalpakstan’s right to freely secede from the Uzbek Republic. Thousands of Karakalpaks joined together for peaceful demonstrations to protest against the changes concerning their homeland. Tashkent reacted in line with what seems to have become a Central Asian formula: military troops were sent to suppress the demonstrations, which led to multiple deaths and injuries; the Internet was shut down; curfe

Abstract:
The aviation sector has a significant role to play in the reduction of carbon emissions, particularly in light of EU emissions targets. Within the EU, aviation emissions constitute 13.9 per cent of total transport emissions, where under the Green Deal a target of 90 per cent reduction in transport emissions by 2050 has been set. Several tax exemptions apply to the aviation sector due to its international nature, which have contributed to an increasing trend in emissions. Recent movements in EU policy under the ‘Fit for 55’ package, as well as public and political interest, have focused attenti

Abstract:
There is a need in the industry in assessing the severity of a particular anomaly (dent, gouge, corrosion pit, etc.) in a pipe as to whether or not repair or removal is warranted. Along with the determination of repair there is also a need for prioritizing in-line-inspection (ILI) data, and for making remaining-life assessments of said pipe. This document catalogs analysis methods and computational tools for addressing defects and damage discovered on in-service pipelines. It includes example calculations where closed-form algorithms are available in the public domain. It lists and describes s
