Florian, Thiery. "Linked Reindeers?A Linked Open Data approach for rock art in Alta." Squirrel Papers 2, no. 3 (2020): #1. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4074913.

Full text
Abstract:
The famous rock art in Alta was discovered in 1970 by Prof. Knut Helskrog, who also significantly contributed to the research of these sites. In one of the northernmost places of Europe, just on the road to the North Cape, this prehistoric World Heritage Site bears carvings from 500 BC - 100 AC. The largest site at Jiepmaluokta is open to the public as a museum. The petroglyphes are very well conserved and documented by Structure from Motion (SfM) techniques and photography. The images of single carvings are described with keywords and openly accessible via a website at altarockart.no/fotoweb. In recent years, Linked Open Data (LOD) as Open Access Strategy has become more and more common in archaeology. The CAA SIG on Semantics and LOUD in Archaeology (SIG-DataDragon), the Nomisma Project for numismatics, Linked Ogham Stones and other archaeological information are available on Wikidata as a secondary database. From these developments the idea arose to bring rock art to LOD and Wikidata following the idea of Volunteered Archaeological Information and the SPARQL Unicorn principles [10.5281/zenodo.3742185]. It is therefore our objective to publish the Alta rock carvings as LOD using Wikidata as a semantic publishing tool. The overall idea is to build  up a Linked rock art hub like nomisma for coins, starting with publishing data in Wikidata, like the Research Squirrel Engineers have done in the Ogi Ogham Project [http://ogham.link] for medieval stones. In this paper we want to focus on initial modelling ideas and first implementations for Alta rock art in Wikidata.

"Reaching the Unreached: Providing Quality Care to HIV-Infected Children through Telemedicine—An Innovative Pilot Initiative from Maharashtra, India." International Journal of Pediatrics 2020 (October 23, 2020): 1–11. http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2020/6432476.

Full text
Abstract:
Background. The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) of India created the Regional Pediatric Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Center; this was subsequently upgraded to seven Pediatric Centers of Excellence (PCoEs) to strengthen the quality of treatment and care of children living with HIV/AIDS (CLHAs). In October 2013, the pediatric HIV telemedicine initiative, an e-decentralized (care provided by local healthcare providers and support provided by a central agency through telemedicine facilities) model of expert pediatric HIV care and referral services, was established as a pilot project at the Pediatric Center of Excellence for HIV Care in Maharashtra. We designed the present study to compare management, compliance to ART, and mortality in children in the ART centers linked to the PCoE through telemedicine versus those that are not linked to the PCoE. Methods. It was a retrospective cross-sectional study of secondary data from CLHAs from October 2013 through August 2015 in the ART centers to document the intermediate outcomes and to determine if the initiative has improved the quality of care for the CLHAs enrolled in the linked ART centers with nonlinked ART centers. The centers in which the telemedicine sessions were conducted regularly were called linked-regular centers and in whom it was conducted irregularly (less than the median of 12 videoconference cases), it was called a linked-irregular center. Data from 2803 children in 31 linked (1365 in irregular and 1438 in regular centers) and 2608 children in 28 nonlinked centers were analyzed. The outcomes in children in the pre-ART group (ART naïve) were (1) alive on pre-ART, (2) lost to follow-up on pre-ART, (3) death during the pre-ART period, (4) eligible but not initiated on ART, and (5) missing baseline and latest CD4 counts. The outcomes of children on ART were (1) alive on ART, (2) lost to follow-up on ART, (3) death on ART, and (4) missing baseline and latest CD4 counts. Results. We found that a higher proportion of children in the linked-regular centers (79% vs. 70%, p < 0.001 ) and linked-irregular centers (76% vs. 70%, p = 0.04 ) was alive compared with that in the nonlinked centers in the pre-ART group. In this group, the proportion of children with missing baseline CD4 counts and latest CD4 counts was significantly low in linked (regular centers) centers. In the ART group, we found that a higher proportion of children in the linked-regular centers was alive compared with that in the linked-irregular centers (77% vs. 69%, p < 0.001 ); the proportion was not significantly different in nonlinked centers (77% vs. 78%, p = 0.56 ). In this group, the proportion of missing baseline CD4 counts was significantly lower in the linked-regular centers (3% vs 13%, p<0.001) and linked-irregular centers (1% vs. 13%, p < 0.001 ) compared with that in the nonlinked centers. Furthermore, the latest CD4 counts were missing in a significantly lower proportion of children in the linked-regular centers compared with those in the linked-irregular centers (6% vs. 18%, p < 0.001 ) and nonlinked centers (6% vs. 18%, p < 0.001 ). Conclusion. Our study shows that the centers linked through telemedicine performed better in terms of patient care and treatment, with a lesser loss to follow-up and lesser deaths in CLHA. Overall, this pilot project of telemedicine for pediatric HIV has been proven to be acceptable, feasible, and effective in improving the quality of care for children living with HIV across the state of Maharashtra.

Full text
Abstract:
This study was concerned with the question of which personality variables are most predictive of judgements of particular types of painting. One hundred and twenty‐one participants rated 24 slides of abstract, pop art, and representational paintings. They then completed two questionnaires which measured sensation seeking (SS) and the ‘Big Five’ personality dimensions. Thrill and Adventure Seeking was positively correlated with a liking of representational art while Disinhibition was associated with positive ratings of abstract art and pop art. Neuroticism was positively correlated with positive ratings of abstract and pop art, while conscientiousness was linked to liking of representational art. Openness to Experience was linked to positive ratings of all three art types. Agreeableness was negatively linked to liking of pop art. It was also found that art education and frequency of visits to art galleries were linked to positive ratings of abstract paintings. Regressional analyses showed about a fifth of the variance could be accounted for by personality and demographic variables. Personality variables were most strongly linked to positive judgements of representational art and least related to ratings of pop art. Overall the sensation seeking variables accounted for more of the variance than the big five dimensions. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The PHAROS consortium is adopting the Linked Art data model to make its descriptions of photo archives collections available as Linked Open Data to further support scholars in their research. Linked Art is both a community and a data model. As an international community, it works together to create a shared data model to describe art. As a data model, it is a data profile of the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model and using Linked Open Data techniques. The goal of Linked Art is to enable museums and developers to engage in LOD initiatives more easily by providing them with shared data modelling decisions and consistent design principles.

"Optimizing community linkage to care and antiretroviral therapy Initiation: Lessons from the Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) and their adaptation in Nigeria ART Surge." PLOS ONE 16, no. 9 (2021): e0257476. http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0257476.

Full text
Abstract:
Background Ineffective linkage to care (LTC) is a known challenge for community HIV testing. To overcome this challenge, a robust linkage to care strategy was adopted by the 2018 Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS). The NAIIS linkage to care strategy was further adapted to improve Nigeria’s programmatic efforts to achieve the 1st 90 as part of the Nigeria Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Surge initiative, which also included targeted community testing. In this paper we provide an overview of the NAIIS LTC strategy and describe the impact of this strategy on both the NAIIS and the Surge initiatives. Methods The NAIIS collaborated with community-based organizations (CBOs) and deployed mobile health (mHealth) technology with real-time dashboards to manage and optimize community LTC for people living with HIV (PLHIV) diagnosed during the survey. In NAIIS, CBOs’ role was to facilitate linkage of identified PLHIV in community to facility of their choice. For the ART Surge, we modified the NAIIS LTC strategy by empowering both CBOs and mobile community teams as responsible for not only active LTC but also for community testing, ART initiation, and retention in care. Results Of the 2,739 PLHIV 15 years and above identified in NAIIS, 1,975 (72.1%) were either unaware of their HIV-positive status (N = 1890) or were aware of their HIV-positive status but not receiving treatment (N = 85). Of these, 1,342 (67.9%) were linked to care, of which 952 (70.9%) were initiated on ART. Among 1,890 newly diagnosed PLHIV, 1,278 (67.6%) were linked to care, 33.7% self-linked and 66.3% were linked by CBOs. Among 85 known PLHIV not on treatment, 64 (75.3%) were linked; 32.8% self-linked and 67.2% were linked by a CBO. In the ART Surge, LTC and treatment initiation rates were 98% and 100%, respectively. Three-month retention for monthly treatment initiation cohorts improved from 76% to 90% over 6 months. Conclusions Active LTC strategies by local CBOs and mobile community teams improved LTC and ART initiation in the ART Surge initiative. The use of mHealth technology resulted in timely and accurate documentation of results in NAIIS. By deploying mHealth in addition to active LTC, CBOs and mobile community teams could effectively scale up ART with real-time documentation of client-level outcomes.

Abstract:
Art history research examines objects as embedded in a web of relationships, including multiple spatial dimensions (e.g. of the materials, of the artist, of the cultural influences, of the museum collection, and of the temporary exhibitions). However, this richness of nuances is not yet fully encompassed in Linked Open Data standards. This paper aims to examine how the multiplicity of places entangled in art objects can be represented within existing vocabularies (Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, Geonames, Pleiades, Trismegistos), ontologies ( CIDOC CRM, Europeana Data Model, Linked Ancient World Data, Wikidata, LIDO) and interconnection formats (Pelagios, World Historical Gazetteer, SENESCHAL, Linked Art). In doing so, this article raises a series of questions concerning the potential and limitation of current solutions for representing geographical information. It highlights the needs for inclusive, interoperable, open and accessible features in LOD systems in spatial humanities and it traces possible areas of inquiry for further research. The article argues that there is the need to develop more granular and comprehensive solutions for encompassing the multiplicity of places that can be enclosed in an art object, and its itineraries across time and space.

Abstract:
Image steganography is the art of hiding data into images. Secret data such as messages, audio, images can be hidden inside the cover image. This is mainly achieved by hiding the data into the LSB (Least Significant Bit) of the image pixels. To improve the security of steganography, this paper introduces LPS (Least Significant Bit Plane Steganography), a novel approach inspired by linked lists, which diverges from traditional LSB techniques. LPS utilizes the LSB of each channel to encode both data and pointers to subsequent pixels, creating a linked-list-like structure within the image. Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to propose a framework for an NFT system linked to real-world art assets(RWA). The results of this research are: First, the asset price, volatility, fungibility, issuance purpose, legal issues, and core functions of RWA and NFTs are compared and analysed, and a linkage plan is proposed for art tokenisation, NFT-based ownership authentication, DeFi and lending, marketplace construction, insurance and security, etc. Second, the RWA-NFT art system design should be designed in the form of partial or complete segregation based on art value. Third, the system architecture of the RWA-based art platform should be designed in three layers, with a total of six systems, including art appraisal, KYC, NFT ownership management, DeFi trading and liquidity supply, insurance, and royalties. Through this research, the reliability and transparency issues of NFTs can be solved with art physical-linked assets, and a service and academic data base for the RWA-NFT system has been established.

Evaluating the validity of different data sources in the Western Cape, South Africa." PLOS ONE 19, no. 4 (2024): e0291844. http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0291844.

Full text
Abstract:
Background Accurate measurement of antenatal antiretroviral treatment (ART) coverage in pregnancy is imperative in tracking progress towards elimination of vertical HIV transmission. In the Western Cape, South Africa, public-sector individual-level routine data are consolidated from multiple sources, enabling the description of temporal changes in population-wide antenatal antiretroviral coverage. We evaluated the validity of different methods for measuring ART coverage among pregnant women. Methods We compared self-reported ART data from a 2014 antenatal survey with laboratory assay data from a sub-sample within the survey population. Thereafter, we conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of all pregnancies consolidated in the Provincial Health Data Centre (PHDC) from January 2011 to December 2020. Evidence of antenatal and HIV care from electronic platforms were linked using a unique patient identifier. ART coverage estimates were triangulated with available antenatal survey estimates, aggregated programmatic data from registers recorded in the District Health Information System (DHIS) and Thembisa modelling estimates. Results Self-reported ART in the 2014 sentinel antenatal survey (n = 1434) had high sensitivity (83.5%), specificity (94.5%) and agreement (k = 0.8) with the gold standard of laboratory analysis of ART. Based on linked routine data, ART coverage by the time of delivery in mothers of live births increased from 67.4% in 2011 to 94.7% by 2019. This pattern of increasing antenatal ART coverage was also seen in the DHIS data, and estimated by the Thembisa model, but was less consistent in the antenatal survey data. Conclusion This study is the first in a high-burden HIV setting to compare sentinel ART surveillance data with consolidated individuated administrative data. Although self-report in survey conditions showed high validity, more recent data sources based on self-report and medical records may be uncertain with increasing ART coverage over time. Linked individuated data may offer a promising option for ART coverage estimation with greater granularity and efficiency.

Abstract:
Background The aim of this study was to assess the effect of antiretroviral therapy (ART) versus HIV on mitochondria in fat. Methods Subcutaneous fat was collected from 45 HIV-infected patients on ART with lipoatrophy, 11 HIV-infected ART-naive patients and nine healthy controls. Three mitochondrial transcripts: NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (ND1), cytochrome B (CYTB) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 6 (ND6) genes were quantitated using TaqMan® probes and normalized to nuclear-encoded ribosomal L13. Results ND1/L13 and CYTB/L13 were lower in HIV-positive patients on ART with lipoatrophy versus ART-naive patients (3.4 versus 7.2 [ P=0.017] and 2.5 versus 4.6 [ P=0.006], respectively). No difference was found between ART-naive patients and controls ( P>0.70). ND6/ L13 was similar between all groups. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry-measured limb fat and mitochondrial DNA in fat were also lower in HIV-positive patients on ART with lipoatrophy versus HIV-infected, ART-naive patients (4,382 versus 7,662 g [ P=0.02] and 726 versus 1,372 copies/cell [ P=0.03], respectively), but no difference was found between ART-naive and controls. In a multiple regression analysis, limb fat correlated with all three mitochrondrial RNA, whereas mitochondrial DNA did not correlate with mitochondrial RNA or limb fat. Conclusions In contrast to ART-naive patients, HIV-positive patients on ART with lipoatrophy had significant depletion in mitochondrial DNA in fat and mitochondrial RNAs. This suggests that mitochondrial toxicity in lipoatrophy could be driven by ART and not by HIV itself. In addition, mitochondrial RNA abnormalities, and not mitochondrial DNA depletion, could be a key driving force behind lipoatrophy.

Abstract:
It is reported that the world of art needs more social enterprise and the world of social enterprise needs more art. Therefore, a case study of recycled art was carried out in order to investigate how the link between the art movement and the environmental movement has been formed. Recycled art is often considered as a form of environmental activism. However, there is a time lag of about half a century between the initiation of recycled art in the early 20th century and that of environmental activism (e.g. 3R's - reduce, reuse and recycle) in the 1970s. Recycled art is not historically linked with environmental activism, but it is currently and practically linked with environmental activism. The reuse/recycling of waste as an art tool was new and novel for the then progressive artists from the artistic viewpoint. Since there is now increasing concern over environmental issues and measures to address such issues across the world, the reuse/recycling of waste as an art tool is environmentally friendly from the 3R's viewpoint. That is, these two viewpoints are quite different, but the outcome of recycled art fulfills both interests – artistic creativity and waste abatement. Our modern society has a lot of complex problems; therefore, cooperation across different sectors is often required. Recycled art seems to be a thought-provoking example for working together across sectoral boundaries.

Abstract:
The human being is the main object of medicine and art. In the pursuit of a holistic understanding of him, medicine and art cannot do without each other, a fact that is particularly evident in the history of fine art, the evolution of which is inextricably linked to the anatomical and physiological knowledge of artists.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the future of art education using digital media by analyzing the media dis-courses of Benjamin, McLuhan, and Flusser and the 2022 revised Art Education Curriculum. The research analyzed the contents of digital media in the 2022 revised Art Education Curriculum and identified seven key elements, which were then linked to the content of media discourse to suggest three directions. The study confirmed that the 2022 revised Korea National Art Curriculum considers expanding senses, percep-tion, and experience through the use of digital media, online and offline linked classes, visual communica-tion, and ethical approaches. The three directions of art education using digital media are 'changes in the way digital media are accepted,' 'interaction between senses and media,' and 'technological imagination'. The study advocates for embracing new changes in media, pursuing the expansion of humans through the interaction between senses and media, and the technological imagination based on the device literacy of digital media and human imagination.

As a researcher in the fields of Political Science and Intercultural Communication, my purpose here is linked with the current state of art in Albania, but only through the narratives, fables and symbolic structures that condition it. Even though art as it is now mainly composed of rigid shapes and colors thrown/scattered without much thought in it, I argue that for art to think (or work) outside this quasimainstream mindset, it has first to see how the latter dictates its horizons of possibility. I conclude that these are ready-made fables and concepts taken for granted in the mainstream and which very quickly create a “discursive tension” where our very space of not only artistic freedom is at stake, and for which a “discursive struggle” may be delineated.

Weeks, Samuel. "A Freeport Comes to Luxembourg, or, Why Those Wishing to Hide Assets Purchase Fine Art." Arts 9, no. 3 (2020): 87. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/arts9030087.

Abstract:
This article addresses how global art markets are becoming an outlet of choice for those wishing to hide assets. Recent efforts by the OECD and the U.S. Treasury have made it more difficult for people to avoid taxes by taking money “offshore”. These efforts, however, do not cover physical assets such as fine art. Citing data collected in Luxembourg—a jurisdiction angling to become a worldwide leader in “art finance”—I discuss the characteristics of this emerging system of opaque economic activity. The first of these is a “freeport”, a luxurious and securitized warehouse where investors can store, buy, and sell art tax free with minimal oversight. The second element points to the work of art-finance professionals, who issue loans using fine art as collateral and develop “art funds” linked to the market value of certain artworks. The final elements cover lax scrutiny by enforcement authorities as well as the secrecy techniques typically on offer in offshore centers. Combining these elements in jurisdictions such as Luxembourg can make mobile and secret the vast wealth stored in fine art. I end the article by asking whether artworks linked to freeports and opaque financial products have become the contemporary version of the numbered Swiss bank account or the suitcase full of cash.

Abstract:
Present day Slovenia has inherited a number of historic libraries and collections, one of which provided the foundations of the National and University Library at Ljubljana, the major library for arts and humanities. There are also a number of specialised art libraries within and outside the University of Ljubljana, including the library of the University’s Department of Art History, the Library of the Academy of Fine Arts, and the libraries of the National Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Architecture, all in Ljubljana. Slovenian libraries have been or are being automated and linked together through the COBISS network; most of the academic libraries are connected to the Internet. Library training programmes are available at degree level, and students can study another subject, such as art history, as well. More art librarians are needed, as is an association of art libraries and art librarians.

Abstract:
Background: Hepatoxicity is a major complication and side effect of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Unfortunately, such studies in this area of evaluating the adverse drug reaction of ART on the liver hepatocytes are only few in number in Nigeria. Objective: To determine the levels of some liver enzymes in HIV/AIDS patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and as well evaluate their impact on liver hepatocytes. Methods: This is a hospital-based case-control study. A total of 153 subjects were recruited in the study, and they were divided into three groups: the control group (which consist of apparently healthy subjects), the study group 1 (consist of HIV positive subject not on ART), and study group 2 (consist of HIV/AIDS patients on ART). The liver enzymes Alanine amino Transferase (ALT), Asparate amino Transfarase (AST) and Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) were determined using enzyme linked spectrophotometric assay methods, according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Results: The mean standard deviation (SD) of ALT and AST activity of the study group 1 showed significant differences when compared with that of the control group P<0.001, but the ALP has no significant differences P>0.05. In Study group 2, (HIV/AIDS patients on ART) showed significant differences of P<0.001 in ALT, AST and ALP.Conclusion: Some liver enzymes were elevated in subjects on antiretroviral therapy; this elevation could be due to hepatotoxicity of the (ART) used by the HIV/AIDS patients on the liver hepatocytes.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Vol. 08 No. 02 Apr’24 Page: 126-131

Abstract:
Art and architecture have been unbreakably linked together for centuries, and the question that spontaneously arises is why it cannot be the same for art and yacht design. The field in which the research is carried out is placed at the crossroads between art and architecture, of which yacht design can be considered a category. There is a lack of references to the artistic field in the yachting sector in literature, so the parallelism between architecture and “floating” architecture is performed: the ships are the emblem of closure, and the stylistic evolution has begun bearing fruit in recent years. The paper aims to outline the current state of the art of the relationship between art and yachting. The first part analyses the relationship between art and architecture, while the second part discusses art concerning naval design: here, the case studies analysis highlights how art onboard is still considered an accessory rather than a backbone of the project.

Abstract:
PurposeTo generate a large cohort of children born after assisted reproductive technology (ART) in the UK between 1992 and 2009, their naturally conceived siblings (NCS) and matched naturally conceived population (NCP) controls and linking this with health outcome data to allow exploration of the effects of ART. The effects of fresh and frozen embryo transfer on birth weight (BW) were analysed to test the validity of the cohort.ParticipantsChildren recorded on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) register as being born after ART between 1992 and 2009, their NCS and matched NCP controls linked to Office for National Statistics birth registration dataset (HFEA-ONS cohort). This cohort was further linked to the UK Hospital Episode Statistics database to allow monitoring of the child’s post-natal health outcomes up to 2015 (HFEA-ONS-HES subcohort).Findings to dateThe HFEA-ONS cohort consisted of 75 348 children born after non-donor ART carried out in the UK between 1 April 1992 and 31 July 2009 and successfully linked to birth registration records, 14 763 NCS and 164 823 matched NCP controls. The HFEA-ONS-HES subcohort included 63 877 ART, 11 343 NCS and 127 544 matched NCP controls further linked to health outcome data. The exemplar analysis showed that children born after fresh embryo transfers were lighter (BW difference: −131 g, 95% CI: −140 to –123) and those born after frozen embryo transfers were heavier (BW difference: 35 g, 95% CI: 19 to 52) than the NCP controls. The within-sibling analyses were directionally consistent with the population control analyses, but attenuated markedly for the fresh versus natural conception (BW difference: −54 g; 95% CI: −72 to –36) and increased markedly for the frozen versus natural conception (BW difference: 152 g; 95% CI: 113 to 190) analyses.Future plansTo use this cohort to explore the relationship between ART conception and short-term and long-term health outcomes in offspring.
