Alkali-activated adsorbents were synthesized by mixing three different slags from the steel industry: blast furnace slag (BFS), ladle slag (LS), and Lintz–Donawitz converter slag (LD). These powdered slag-based geopolymers (GP) were used to remove nickel(II) from aqueous solutions in fixed-bed column studies. The experiments were conducted in pH 6 using a phosphate buffer with initial nickel(II) concentration of 50 mg/L. Samples were taken at time intervals of between 5 and 90 min. A general finite element model and a new solution method were developed to simulate the permeances of Lintz Donawiz converter gas (LDG) components and the performance of a polysulfone membrane separation unit. Cotton plant densities of 10 or 40 thousand plants/acre had no effect on numbers of silverleaf whitefly, Bemisia argentifolii Bellows and Perring, adults, eggs, nymphs, extracted sugars from lint samples or thermodetector sticky cotton counts. Three field experiments were conducted in Avra Valley, Arizona, in 1986, to compare the lint quality of upland cotton fertilized with liquid sewage sludge with the lint quality of cotton fertilized with commercial inorganic fertilizer. Most lint quality components were similar for cotton fertilized with sewage sludge or inorganic nitrogen. Fertilization of cotton with sewage sludge tended to increase lint yield and decrease lint quality. Fertilization of cotton with sewage sludge increased vegetative growth and delayed lint maturity.

Temik 15G was side-dressed at a rate of 7 lb./acre and 14 lb./acre and compared to an untreated check in 4 experiments in 1996 and 1997 in Buckeye, Az. Treatments were made just prior to early bloom. Lygus counts were taken using a sweep net on weekly intervals for four to six weeks post application. A net positive return on investment (ROI) ranging from $34.79/acre to $48.19/acre was realized in three of the four experiments with the seven lb./acre rate.
