Abstract:
Methods for estimating divergence times from molecular data have improved dramatically over the past decade, yet there are few studies examining alternative taxon sampling effects on node age estimates. Here, I investigate the effect of undersampling species diversity on node ages of the South American lizard clade Liolaemini using several alternative subsampling strategies for both time calibrations and taxa numbers. Penalized likelihood (PL) and Bayesian molecular dating analyses were conducted on a densely sampled (202 taxa) mtDNA-based phylogenetic hypothesis of Iguanidae, including 92 Lio

Abstract:
A new species of lizard of the genus Liolaemus from southern Mendoza Province, western Argentina, is described. The new species is a member of the Liolaemus donosobarrosi group, and molecular data show it as sister taxon of L. josei differing in size, squamation, coloration, and sexual dimorphism. Liolaemus sp. nov. is terrestrial, dwelling on sandy soil in a shrubby piedmont of small hills, and seems to have low population density.

Color polymorphisms in general and melanism in particular have been the focus of many evolutionary adaptation studies. In lizards of the genus Liolaemus Wiegmann, 1834, patterns of melanism have been poorly studied, although they have been used as diagnostic characters for identifying and describing new species. We investigated the relationships between melanism, body size, sex, and time in a population of Rawson Lizard (Liolaemus xanthoviridis Cei and Scolaro, 1980) with extensive ventral melanism. Abstract:
Lizards from the Liolaemus lineomaculatus section are endemic to Patagonia, southern South America. Three main groups are recognized within this section, one of which, the L. kingii group includes eleven species. The two northernmost distributed species of this group, L. somuncurae and L. uptoni, are endemic to a small area that partly overlaps with the Provincial Protected Area Somuncurá Plateau (within the Somuncurá massif). Knowledge available for these species is based on limited sample sizes, and mostly limited to their original descriptions; also a recent molecular phylogenetic study sho

Abstract:
Two new species of the Liolaemus donosobarrosi clade are described. Liolaemus tirantii sp. nov. and Liolaemus calliston sp. nov. differ from other members of their clade by a combination of coloration characters, morphometric and molecular traits. Liolaemus tirantii sp. nov. is known from three localities separated only a few kilometers from each other and Liolaemus calliston sp. nov. is known only from the type locality. Both species inhabit a region strongly impacted by oil and gas extraction but their conservation status is unknown.

Abstract:
A new species of lizard of the genus Liolaemus from Cordillera del Viento, northwestern Neuquén Province, Argentina is described. The new species is a member of the Andean-Patagonian Liolaemus elongatus clade and is known only from a single locality above 3000 m in the eastern slopes of Domuyo Volcano. Liolaemus antumalguen sp. nov. is a stout species, saxicolous, probably viviparous and omnivorous, and seems to have low population density. It is easily differentiated from all other species of the elongatus complex for a highly variable but characteristic dorsal pattern and a completely black

Abstract:
Liolaemus ditadai is a rare liolaemid lizard originally described from Salinas Grandes salt-pans flat, in the border between Cordoba and Catamarca Province in central Argentina. Only a few specimens of this species are known. Here, we present a new record that result in a significant extension of the known distribution of the species, which is currently considered to be restricted to a small area in Salinas Grandes. In addition, we comment on previous records of the species in central Argentina.
