Abstract:
The Asiatic Lion population has increased in the last three decades, which now occupies a large regional spread with six or more identified satellite populations in eight districts of Gujarat. An overlap of lion habitat with human-dominated landscape elements leads to an increase in lion-human interactions in these growing satellite populations. A high rate of lion mortality has been observed in the periphery of Gir in the last decade due to falls into open dug wells. These wells have been excavated for irrigation in the agricultural landscape of Gir. About 145 wild animals including lions have died due to accidental falls into open wells in past 10 years. It has been observed that construction of parapet walls around wells in some of the peripheral areas of Gir Sanctuary have prevented this accidental mortality at very low cost. To assess the efficiency of these measures we did a survey of 20 random villages in the Gir Lion Landscape to collect data on the types of wells that cause this uncalled-for mortality. The paper explores the reasons for the lions falling into wells in the agricultural areas outside the Gir Sanctuary. The survey has shown that the corridors used by lions and in the satellite population areas are high risk sites where more parapet walls should be built on a priority basis. From the year 2007 to 2018 more than 48,000 parapet walls have already been randomly built in the periphery of the Gir Sanctuary. Out of 130 identified wells, 90 were protected with parapet wall or iron net while, 32 were without parapet wall and rest eight were with unfinished parapet wall. Providing a scheme for building more parapet walls around prioritized open wells would be an effective step towards Asiatic Lion conservation in the Gir Lion Landscape. Our survey indicates that there has been no mortality of lions in those wells where parapet walls have been built.

Abstract:
In August 1994, a systematic survey of potential haulout sites of the Australian sea lion, Neophoca cinerea, was conducted along the coastline of the Great Australian Bight from Twin Rocks to Wilson Bluff, a distance of 206 km. A total of 289 Australian sea lions was recorded at 23 sites widely dispersed at the base of the Bunda Cliffs, hauled out on perched platforms formed by collapsed sections of cliff at various levels above the sea. Of these, 37 sea lions were recorded in a deep cave accessed from the sea. The total included 86 pups aged under 12 months, which were probably born in the region; six of these had almost completed moulting their natal pelage and were estimated to be near four months old. Only 12 New Zealand fur seals, Arctocephalus forsteri, were recorded. The Australian sea lion sites located in 1994 were surveyed again in August-September 1995, during a predicted breeding season. In this survey, a total of 284 sea lions was recorded at nine sites in South Australia and one site in Western Australia. This included 90 pups under six months of age, of which 44 were still in lanugo. Overall, we recorded 10 breeding sites and 14 haulout sites. Breeding events were recorded at one colony over three seasons and were consistent with an 18-month cycle. By extrapolating from the number of sea lion pups found in 1994, the population for the Great Australian Bight region in South Australia is estimated to be 613-774. This addition increases the previous estimate for South Australia by 9.3% and the previous total population estimate by 6.6%.

Abstract:
Abstract Recent records of mountain lions Puma concolor and concurrent declines in desert bighorn sheep Ovis canadensis mexicana on Kofa National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona, United States, have prompted investigations to estimate the number of mountain lions occurring there. We performed noninvasive genetic analyses and identified species, individuals, and sex from scat samples collected from the Kofa and Castle Dome Mountains. From 105 scats collected, we identified a minimum of 11 individual mountain lions. These individuals consisted of six males, two females and three of unknown sex. Three of the 11 mountain lions were identified multiple times over the study period. These estimates supplement previously recorded information on mountain lions in an area where they were historically considered only transient. We demonstrate that noninvasive genetic techniques, especially when used in conjunction with camera-trap and radiocollaring methods, can provide additional and reliable information to wildlife managers, particularly on secretive species like the mountain lion.

Abstract:
Two seal species breed on the west coast of South Australia, the Australian sea lion, Neophoca cinerea, and the New Zealand fur seal, Arctocephalus forsteri. Aerial surveys were conducted at intervals of ~3 months between April 1995 and June 1997 to determine the breeding status of sea lions and timing of pupping seasons. Ground surveys between October 1994 and April 2004 aimed at counting sea lions and fur seals, particularly pups. In all, 27 sites were examined. Six new sea lion breeding colonies were documented, at Four Hummocks, Price, North Rocky, Dorothee, West Waldegrave and Nicolas Baudin Islands. All were found or confirmed by ground survey. Pup numbers were equivalent to 12% of the total number of pups estimated in surveys conducted from 1987 to 1992, but primarily in 1990. The sighting of brown pups on aerial surveys of Ward Island, Middle and Western Nuyts Reef supports earlier indications, based on dead pups, that they are breeding colonies. The timing of pupping seasons is not synchronous; estimates are presented for colonies between 1995 and early in 2004, with predictions to the end of 2005. The abundance estimates of sea lion pups highlight the importance of visiting a colony early in the pupping season to determine when pupping begins and ~5 months later when the maximum number of pups is expected. For the New Zealand fur seal, small numbers of pups were recorded at Dorothee, West Waldegrave and Nicolas Baudin Islands, and at Nuyts Reef. These and the previously unknown sea lion breeding colonies on the west coast of South Australia suggest that further colonies may remain to be documented. Because planning for aquaculture ventures is active in South Australia, it is important that the localities and status of sea lion and fur seal colonies be established unequivocally to ensure that the need for Prohibited Area status for islands with breeding colonies and for Marine Protected Areas around them is noted.

Abstract:
AbstractAsiatic lions Panthera leo persica, once confined to the 1,883 km2 Gir Protected Area in Gujarat, India, have in the past 2 decades colonized the adjacent Girnar forest, coastal scrub and agro-pastoral areas covering c. 10,000 km2. In May 2008 the Government of Gujarat declared 180 km2 of the sacred Girnar forests a Wildlife Sanctuary. We obtained data on location, age, gender and group composition of lions in Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary from opportunistic sightings during March–May 2008 and from systematic surveys in April 2008 (six surveys of 3–4 days each), totalling 81 lions on 40 occasions. Of the 81 sightings 43% were in the recruitment age group. Adult sex ratio was 0.87 males : 1 female. In the systematic survey we made 26 sightings of nine individuals, identified from their vibrissae patterns and permanent body markings, and used these for population estimation using a capture–recapture analysis. The population estimate using the best fit null model Mo was 10 ± SE 1.2 giving an adult lion density of 5.6 ± SE 0.7 per 100 km2. Population viability analysis emphasized the importance of immigrants for the persistence of this small population. One immigrant in 2 years reduced the probability of extinction by 16%. Conservation of the habitat matrix to the south-east of the Sanctuary, used as a corridor for movement between Girnar and Gir, by declaring it an eco-sensitive zone would facilitate the long-term survival of the Girnar lion population.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to quantify the errors associated with using fecal samples to determine the diet of the California sea lion (Zalophus californianus). Fishes and squids of known size and number were fed to five sea lions held in enclosures with seawater-filled pools. Enclosures were washed and pools were drained periodically so that sea lion feces could be collected using a 0.5 mm mesh bag. Fish otoliths and squid beaks were collected from feces and used to estimate number and size of prey eaten. An average of 50.7% (SE = 6.4%) of 430 fishes and 73.5% (SE = 12.0%) of 49 cephalopods fed to sea lions were represented by otoliths and beaks in feces, respectively. Estimated lengths of fish from feces were less than lengths of fish fed to sea lions by an average of 30.1% (SE = 2.8%). Beaks were not digested significantly; estimated lengths of squid were underestimated by an average of only 3.3% (SE = 1.5%) relative to actual lengths. Passage rates of otoliths varied, but more than 70% were recovered within 48 h after the fish was consumed. Passage rates of beaks were generally less than those of otoliths; six beaks (11%) were collected in feces 4 days after the squid were eaten. Correction factors were created to more reliably estimate the number and size of fishes and cephalopods eaten by California sea lions.

Twenty electrum coins, of similar early Anatolian lion-head types, are stamped with the legend WALWE or some part of it. This legend, retrograde, was situated on the die between two facing lion heads. Although extant coins of this kind, none larger than ‘thirds’, reproduce only one lion head (facing either left or right), traces of the opposing snout on seven of the twenty coins permit reconstruction of the type. The legend itself is often incomplete–or else absent altogether. However, as Weidauer points out, the location of extant letters in relation to the lion head seems to indicate that it began with the initial digamma and was not longer than six letters

Abstract:
In this paper, a parameter identification method of photovoltaic cell model based on improved lion swarm optimization is presented. Lion swarm optimization is a novel intelligent algorithm proposed in recent years, but it has problems such as local optimum and slow convergence. To overcome such limitations, we can combine the tent chaotic map, adaptive parameter and chaotic search strategy to further improve the search ability of the algorithm and avoid trapping in local optimum. The simulation of standard test function shows that the performance of improved lion swarm algorithm is superior to the other six algorithms. Then the algorithm is applied to the parameter identification of photovoltaic cells under two kinds of models and different irradiance, the simulation results verify the superiority and effectiveness of the improved lion swarm optimization in the application of photovoltaic cell parameter identification.

Abstract:
In New Zealand, a fishery for squid (Nototodarus sloanii) incidentally catches a threatened sea lion, Phocarctos hookeri. Bycatch is managed with an annual limit designed to ensure rebuilding of the sea lion population. We explore the conservation and cost effects of the current limit and two simple alternative rules, comparing them with no fishing and unrestricted fishing. We fitted an age-structured Bayesian model to sea lion pup estimates to obtain samples of the joint posterior distribution of parameters; from these we made 100-year simulations with five harvest control rules under six different sets of environmental conditions. The base-case fit suggests that the current sea lion population may be near its carrying capacity, although this may be sensitive to modelling choices. The fishery bycatch constitutes little risk to the sea lion population in the absence of catastrophes and generates small marginal risks when catastrophes are simulated. The current management rule does not minimise the marginal risk of extinction, is much more costly to the fishery than simple alternative rules, and incurs greatest cost when risk is smallest. The model appears to be a good tool for evaluating alternative management strategies against predefined objectives.

Abstract:
This thesis tries to show the correlation of the political and esthetical discourse in France following the defeat of Sedan until the early Twenties, and thus to prove that the creation of the "Group des Six" shortly after the First World War, falls under a logical continuation of search for a national aesthetic. The birth of this musical formation coincides with one crucial moment of the French political history and its aesthetic discourse seems to correspond to the right-wing nationalist policy of the time. The antigermanic feeling is at the height and the defense of the national culture is a significant part of the aesthetic discourse of this musical group. Considering the political context of the time and the nationalist line speech, it is significant to ask us wether the aesthetic of the "Groupe des Six" could in a certain way be influenced by the political speech

Abstract:
Due to increasing habitat loss, human-lion conflict, poaching and other reasons, African lion (Panthera leo) populations have suffered a drastic decline. The African Lion and Environmental Research Trust (ALERT) is working to stop this pattern and is the first organization with an ex-situ conservation project for lions. Before releasing lions raised by captive-bred adults, they must first be ensured to behave properly to make sure they have the highest chance of survival. One challenge in the wild is encountering and competition with unknown conspecifics. By conducting playback of unfamiliar lion roars, the behaviours of lions under this ex-situ reintroduction program were tested and compared with observations from earlier studies of wild lions. Social interactions were also collected and a social network analysis was done to give information about the social structure in the pride. This in turn was compared with boldness scores, calculated from behavioural responses in the playback experiments. Lastly, I searched for associations between age and sex with both boldness and social interactions.   The studied pride consisted of 12 lions. The lions were more vigilant when a playback consisted of numerous lions vocalizing, but playing more than three lions seemed to make them loose interest, suggesting either habituation or false information. One adult female and the alpha-male were most bold, followed by five sub-adults. Boldness did not vary according to sex or age differences, but the social network analysis showed that some social interactions were more dominated by one sex or age group. These behaviours were in agreement with comparisons of wild prides.   This study showed that captive-bred lions have developed natural social behaviours. Based on the behavioural responses observed by the captive-origin lions to the playbacks of unfamiliar lions, it is unclear whether these lions would appropriately respond when encountered with unfamiliar conspecifics in the wild post-release.

Abstract:
Over the six months in which Vajiko Chachkhiani’s Living Dog Among Dead Lions was exhibited at the Georgian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017, heavy rain was pouring inside the installation. This artificially generated process provokes thoughts on the nature of the here and now as well as of the afterlife and of the future appearance of the hut’s water-sensitive insides. Eventually, the spaces and furniture exposed to rain and water stagnation will begin to rot and disintegrate, and mould and moss might grow over them. Its viewers feel caught between what they see and what they hope to see; between their perceptions and expectations, in an exceptional time zone where ‘natural’ weathering is being performed as a subject of meditative observation.

Abstract:
Fantastic beings proliferate in pre-Han and Han literature and are represented in a variety of forms up through the Six Dynasties period. They pose some problems of identification and classification for both ancient and modern scholars. Thus different sources specify various bird or animal forms for Feilian, the Wind Earl. Chiyou, another pre-Han rebel, now appears as a warlike monster leading a troupe of storm spirits. These thunders of Southeast China do have specific names on one Northern Wei epitaph tablet of 522. Elsewhere auspicious or apotropaic inscriptions on paired messenger birds and evil-averting tomb protectors are often interpreted as names even though archaeological evidence may suggest otherwise. The Chinese “unicorn,” a creature that resists classification, comes to resemble its mate, the “lion.” In general, the forms and functions of mythical beings are established in this period.

He harnessed the revolutionary technologies of Victorian travel to a growing desire on the part of the middle class to explore the world and its ancient history. Cook was the first to realize the potential of the railroad for group tours. A devout Baptist and an advocate for temperance, he began his business by organizing rail excursions to temperance meetings in nearby towns in central England. The enterprise was so successful that he took advantage of steamships and continental railroads to organize what we now call package tours to France and Germany. From that, it was not much more difficult to organize tours to Egypt and the Holy Land, now readily accessible thanks to the new technology for Victorian travel: the railroad, the steamship, and the telegraph. Then, in the twentieth century, came ocean liners, massive cruise ships, and the Boeing 707, followed by the jumbo jet, all of which together made archaeological travel part of popular culture. We live in a completely accessible world of intricate airline schedules and instant communication, where you can visit the great moiae of Easter Island as easily as you can take a journey to Stonehenge or the Parthenon, the difference being a longer flight and the need for the correct visas and a foreign rental car at the other end. And if you become sick or injured, you can be evacuated from most places within hours: Peter Fleming or Ella Maillart would have been in real trouble had they become sick or injured in the vast expanses of central Asia. We forget that to travel east of the Holy Land was considered highly adventurous until after World War II, and that central Asia was virtually inaccessible to outsiders until the late twentieth century. Much of the adventure of archaeological travel has vanished since the 1960s in a tidal wave of mass tourism and its attendant businesses. Leisure travel is now the world’s largest industry, and the mainstay of many national economies, including that of Egypt, where at last count six mil-lion tourists visit each year. According to Statistics Canada, global cultural tourism will grow at a rate of about 15 percent annually through the year 2010.

Abstract:
Imagine that you arrive late at a party. Everyone is already there, sitting at a big round table. The host invites you to sit down with the others and you realize that they are engaged in what appears to be some kind of a game. The host tells you nothing other than to sit down and join in. Let’s say that you quite like playing poker, and you get excited at the prospect of participating, but you quickly realize that this is not poker. Then it dawns on you that you actually have absolutely no idea what is going on. You turn around to consult the host, but he seems to have disappeared. You take a deep breath and keep quiet, not wanting to reveal your ignorance quite so early in the evening, and you quietly continue to observe. The first thing you notice is that no one is allowed to utter any words, so it’s not obvious at all whether this is a game. This seems slightly odd but you think this may be one of the rules of the game and so you play along. You observe that the players are using a common deck of cards, resembling Tarot cards, each card with an elaborate picture on it, such as a warrior killing a lion, or a lady holding two crossed swords. After a while it becomes clear that players take turns to reveal a set of cards, one at a time. As each subsequent card is laid down, adjacent to the previous one, the other players closely observe the card being laid down as well as any body language of the player to further substantiate the meaning of the card. So it’s finally the turn of the player sitting next to you. He puts down a king standing over a dead lion with his sword raised above his head; you think to yourself, ‘Is this guy talking about a particular king who killed a lion?’, ‘Is he talking about royalty in general?’, or ‘Is this card a metaphor for some kind of personal triumph?’.

Abstract:
In this paper, a family of novel mechanisms with three limbs is proposed. The novel family of mechanisms looks like a sea lion playing a ball therefore we called it the sea lion ball mechanism (SLBM). Its characteristics are described in detail below. The SLBM is composed of an upper part and a lower part connected together by three limbs in series. One of the most important advantages of SLBMs is that the translational and rotational motions are partially decoupled: the end-effector position is only determined by the inputs of the lower part, while the rotational angles are mainly determined by the inputs of the upper part. Then, the procedures for the type synthesis of SLBMs with three limbs are proposed based on the GF sets theory and the concept of virtual chain. Furthermore, according to the proposed procedure, 4-, 5- and 6-DOF SLBMs are investigated in terms of type synthesis based on a concept of upper-lower combination. The synthesis method of the upper limbs and lower limbs are presented. The PR and Pa joints are introduced to realize the functions of R and P joints to achieve more mechanisms. The six types kinematic limbs with 3T3R, 3T2R, 2T3R, 3T1R, 2T2R and 1T3R motion patterns of SLBMs are designed. Lastly, several novel 4-, 5- and 6-DOF SLBMs are proposed and sketched. The concept of the upper-lower combination may provide a new idea for type synthesis of decoupled parallel mechanism.

Abstract:
Numerically simulating the six-degrees-of-freedom response motions of a ship executing an unsteady maneuver in a two-dimensional wave environment is one of the most challenging tasks in seakeeping. Mathematical difficulties may occur for several reasons. For example, the rapid change in encounter frequencies may cause a numerical dynamics imbalance. Furthermore, in order to predict the ship’s track (ship heading) accurately, the rudder forces and two-dimensional drift forces must be predicted accurately; otherwise, erroneously predicted headings can ultimately lead to obtaining entirely different ship motions. To overcome these problems, we added a well-behaved, pre-conditional iterative method into the hybrid flow-based, fully-nonlinear ship motion model, DiSSEL (Digital, Self-consistent Ship Experimental Laboratory), in a two-dimensional wave environment. DiSSEL includes two components: a ship-wave interactions model (Lin et al., 2005[1], Lin and Kuang, 2006[2]), and a solid body motions interactions model (Lin and Kuang 2010[3]). The rudder and appendage forces (Lin et al, 2010[4]) are included in the solid body motions component. This refined model is able to overcome the mathematical dynamics imbalance when the encounter frequency rapidly changes as well as accurately calculate the forces on the hull and rudders. Finally the simulations of ship response motions at various relative headings and at various forward speeds in a two-dimensional seaway will be benchmarked against experimental model data for the test cases.

Abstract:
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded a $2.3 million grant to the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) in 2006 in response to the need for well-trained Radiation Protection Technicians (RPTs). The RPT curriculum initiative resulted from significant collaborations facilitated by MU with community colleges, nuclear power plants, professional organizations, and other nuclear industry stakeholders. The objective of the DOL project is to help increase the pool of well-qualified RPTs to enter the nuclear workforce. Our work is designed to address the nuclear industry’s well-documented, increasingly significant need for RPTs. In response to this need, MU and AmerenUE’s Callaway Nuclear Power Plant first partnered with Linn State Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center (LSTC/ATC) to initiate a two-year RPT degree program. The success of this program (enrollments have been increasing over the past four years to a Fall 2007 enrollment of 23) enabled the successful proposal to the DOL to expand this program nationwide. DOL participants include the following partners: Linn State Technical College with AmerenUE – Callaway; Central Virginia Community College with AREVA; Estrella Mountain Community College with Arizona Public Service – Palo Verde; MiraCosta Community College with Southern California Edison – San Onofre; and Hill College with Texas Utilities – Comanche Peak. The new DOL grant has allowed redevelopment of the LSTC/ATC curriculum using a web-based, scenario driven format, benchmarked against industry training standards. This curriculum will be disseminated to all partners. Integral in this curriculum is a paid, three to four month internship at a nuclear facility. Two of the six new RPT courses have been developed as of the end of 2007. Four of five partner schools are accepting students into this new program starting in the winter 2008 term. We expect that these institutions will graduate 100 new RPTs per year to help alleviate the personnel shortage in this critical area of need.

Abstract:
The high-speed Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) is one of the key forms of transportation for the U.S. Navy in littoral regions. This planing craft, shown in Figure 1, is a lightweight, high-performance, high-capacity boat. It is constructed with a solid, shaped hull and flexible tubes at the gunwale. The flexible tubes maintain a high buoyancy to avoid capsize in bad seas and to better absorb heavy loads. When the RHIB maneuvers in a seas state greater than 2, however, it often gets off plane or jumps to an entirely different heading regardless of the craft speed and heading relative to the direction of wave propagation. This behavior may cause the planing boat to miss its target track and veer off course. Furthermore, if a RHIB is supporting shore facilities or large ships transporting troops, the deviations and jumps may also impact the safety of the troops. In order to shine a light on improving the RHIB planing craft design for better performance at higher sea states, this study used a fully-nonlinear ship motion model named the Digital Self consistent Ship Experimental Laboratory (DiSSEL) by Lin and Kuang (2011a and 2011b) as a numerical tool to examine the dynamic balance of a six-degree-freedom (6DOF) RHIB. First the RHIB is maneuvered in Seas State 2, then in Seas State 3. The results of the simulation serve to better understand the underlying physics that cause dynamics instability at higher sea states. This study also serves to validate the accuracy of the DiSSEL ship motion model with observational data of a 10-meter long RHIB at Seas State 2. The model shows good agreement with experimental data in all headings and with a wide range of boat speeds (up to Froude number of 1.265).

Abstract:

Abstract:
The amino acid sequence has been determined for all of the vitamin K-dependent proteins and the gene structure is known for some of them. These findings have shown the proteins to consist of four clearly discernible domains, except protein S which has six domains. The protein domains seem to be coded on separate exons (Foster, D. C. et. al. 1985 Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 82,4673). The vitamin K-dependent γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) containing domain isthe common structural denominator of the members of this protein family. In addition, all of these proteins except prothrombin contain domains that are homologous to the precursor of the epidermal growth factor (EGF). Such domains arealso found in proteins that are not vitamin K-dependent, such as the low density lipoprotein receptor, thrombomodulin, factor XII, plasminogen, the tissue type plasminogen activator, urokinase and the complement protein Clr. The vitamin K-dependent proteins can be dividedinto three groups. Factors VII, IX, X, protein C and protein Z form one group, which in addition to the Gla-region have two EGF-homology regions and one domain that is homologous to the serine proteases. Prothrombin has two 'kringle' structures and a serine protease domain and constitutes a group of its own. Protein S is also unique in that it has four EGF-homology regions and a COOH-terminal region that is homologous to the sexual hormone binding globulin (see poster by Edenbrand et. al.).Recently a posttranslationally modified amino acid, B-hydroxyaspatic acid (Hya), was identified in position 71 in the NH2-terminal EGF-homology region ofbovine protein C. The amino acid is formed by hydroxylation of aspartic acid. It has also been identified in the corresponding positions in factors VII, IX,X and protein Z (i. e. proteins which like protein C have two EGF-homology regions each). In protein S the N2-terminal of four EGF-homology regions has hydroxy lated aspartic acid .whereas the following three EGF-like domains have B-hydroxyasparagine. The nucleotide sequence codes for asparagine in the three latter positions. Neither vitamin K nor vitamin C seem to be involvedin the formation of the two hydroxylated amino acids. Recently, Hya was identified in acid hydrolysates of the complement protein Clr. Hya and Hyn have onlybeen found in domains that are homologous to the EGF precursor. In an attempt to identify the structural requirement of the hydroxylating enzyme, we have compared the sequences of EGF-homology regions that contain Hya or Hyn with the corresponding sequences that have been shown not to contain the modified amino acids. The domains that have Hya or Hyn have the consensus sequence Cx xxxx xCxC. This sequence has been found in three EGF-like domains in the EGF-precursor, in two in the LDL-receptor and in two in thrombomodulin. Furthermore, the neurogenic Notch locus in Drosophila melanogaster codes for 36 EGF-homolgy regions, 22 of which contain the consensussequence, whereas the Lin-12 locus in Caenorhabditis elegans codes for at least 11 EGF-like repeats, two of which comply with the consensus sequence. Whether any of these proteins contain Hya orHyn is not yet known with certainty. It has been hypothesized that Hya isinvolved in the Gla independent Ca2+binding of factors IX, X and protein C. In an attempt to resolve this issue, we have isolated the EGF-homology region from human protein C and been able to demonstrate that it binds Ca2+ (see poster by öhlin and Stenflo). However, we do not yet know whether Hya is directly involved in the Ca2+binding.

Abstract:
Abstract: The research focuses on Le Corbusier educational process and on his ability to abstract, through his memories, the images related to the knowledge of the Ancient World; a study that addresses the clear connection between the works of Le Corbusier and his knowledge of Roman architecture, outlining two interpretations: the first one linked to the archetype of classic models, and the second one to ruins and archaeological landscape. The first interpretation clearly illustrates the rational perspective, the will to pursue an universal architecture distinguished by use of reason, that only archetypes can teach, whereas the second interpretation attempts to outline the relationship between the evocative influence of the ruin and the personal suggestions of the architect. Retracing the steps of his educational process, the research investigates the knowledge acquired by the young Jeanneret during his German stay (1910-1911). This is the first phase of the study of Roman architecture, that inspires him an interest that will be pursued later through the experience of the Voyage d 'Orient and the study of some sources, such as Piranesi's views. This learning is reflected in numerous drawings and reflections contained in Carnet 4 and in Carnet 5, elaborated during his stay in Rome. These experiences will be a source of inspiration for his architectural production and theoretical assumptions, and they seem to be reflected in some works of the architect, as the Chandigarh Haute Cour of 1952. Although approximately half of all marriages in the U.S. end in divorce (Amato, 2010; Cherlin, 2010), the remarriage rate has declined steadily in recent decades (Brown & Lin, 2013; Schweizer, 2019). In this profile, we examine the trend in the remarriage rate since 1990 (see Note) and investigate geographic variation in the remarriage rate by gender using recent American Community Survey (ACS) data. This profile is an update of a previous profile on the Geographic Variation in the Remarriage Rate (FP-15-08).
