Cette thèse tente de démontrer la corrélation des discours politique et esthétique en France à la suite de la défaite de Sedan et ce jusque dans les années vingt, et ainsi prouver que la formation du Groupe des Six au lendemain de la Première Guerre mondiale s'inscrit dans une suite logique de recherche d'une esthétique nationale. La naissance de cette formation musicale coïncide avec un moment crucial de l'histoire politique française et son discours esthétique semble justement parfois correspondre au discours politique de la droite nationaliste de l'époque. Le sentiment antigermanique est au plus fort et la défense de la culture nationale est une partie importante du discours esthétique de ce groupe musical. Considérant le contexte politique de l'époque et le discours de la droite nationaliste, il est important de nous demander si l'esthétique des Six a pu d'une certaine façon être influencée par le discours politique
This thesis tries to show the correlation of the political and esthetical discourse in France following the defeat of Sedan until the early Twenties, and thus to prove that the creation of the "Group des Six" shortly after the First World War, falls under a logical continuation of search for a national aesthetic. The birth of this musical formation coincides with one crucial moment of the French political history and its aesthetic discourse seems to correspond to the right-wing nationalist policy of the time. The antigermanic feeling is at the height and the defense of the national culture is a significant part of the aesthetic discourse of this musical group. Considering the political context of the time and the nationalist line speech, it is significant to ask us wether the aesthetic of the "Groupe des Six" could in a certain way be influenced by the political speech

Abstract:
Due to increasing habitat loss, human-lion conflict, poaching and other reasons, African lion (Panthera leo) populations have suffered a drastic decline. The African Lion and Environmental Research Trust (ALERT) is working to stop this pattern and is the first organization with an ex-situ conservation project for lions. Before releasing lions raised by captive-bred adults, they must first be ensured to behave properly to make sure they have the highest chance of survival. One challenge in the wild is encountering and competition with unknown conspecifics. By conducting playback of unfamiliar lion roars, the behaviours of lions under this ex-situ reintroduction program were tested and compared with observations from earlier studies of wild lions. Social interactions were also collected and a social network analysis was done to give information about the social structure in the pride. This in turn was compared with boldness scores, calculated from behavioural responses in the playback experiments. Lastly, I searched for associations between age and sex with both boldness and social interactions.   The studied pride consisted of 12 lions. The lions were more vigilant when a playback consisted of numerous lions vocalizing, but playing more than three lions seemed to make them loose interest, suggesting either habituation or false information. One adult female and the alpha-male were most bold, followed by five sub-adults. Boldness did not vary according to sex or age differences, but the social network analysis showed that some social interactions were more dominated by one sex or age group. These behaviours were in agreement with comparisons of wild prides.   This study showed that captive-bred lions have developed natural social behaviours. Based on the behavioural responses observed by the captive-origin lions to the playbacks of unfamiliar lions, it is unclear whether these lions would appropriately respond when encountered with unfamiliar conspecifics in the wild post-release.

Ferritas de estrutura espin?lio (MFe2O4; M= metal alcalino terroso ou metal de transi??o) desempenham um papel importante na ci?ncia fundamental e na tecnologia moderna. A ferrita de magn?sio (MgFe2O4) e seus compostos dopados tem recebido especial aten??o devido a sua vasta ?rea de atua??o, que inclui aplica??es em m?dia de alta grava??o, cat?lise heterog?nea, adsor??o, sensores e tecnologias magn?ticas, de um modo geral. Suas propriedades estruturais, el?tricas e magn?ticas dependem da composi??o qu?mica, estrutura, tamanho de part?culas, al?m da substitui??o de c?tions nos s?tios A e/ou B que s?o diretamente influenciados pelo m?todo de s?ntese, as condi??es empregadas no processamento desses materiais (temperatura, taxa de aquecimento e tempo). Neste trabalho, ferritas do tipo Mg1-xBxFe2O4 (B= Ni; Cu; x= 0; 0,25; 0,50; 0,75 e 1) foram preparadas pelo m?todo de combust?o assistido por micro-ondas com a finalidade de avaliar tanto o efeito da substitui??o parcial do magn?sio por n?quel e cobre quanto o tratamento t?rmico sobre as propriedades magn?ticas. Os p?s precursores foram tratados termicamente a 600?C, 800?C e 1000?C/2h e caracterizados por An?lise Termogravim?trica (ATG), Difra??o de Raios X (DRX) em conjunto com o Refinamento pelo m?todo Rietveld, Microscopia eletr?nica de varredura (MEV) e Medidas de histerese magn?ticas realizadas ? temperatura ambiente. De acordo com as curvas termogravim?tricas dos p?s precursores, um comportamento semelhante foi observado para ambos os sistemas de amostras, onde o processo de perda total de massa aconteceu basicamente em duas etapas e na faixa de temperatura entre 30 e 500?C para o sistema Mg1-xNixFe2O4 e entre 30 e 400?C para o sistema Mg1-xCuxFe2O4. Os difratogramas de raios X revelaram a forma??o da fase espin?lio MgFe2O4 (ICSD 76176) de estrutura c?bica, e de fases secund?rias como Fe2O3 (ICSD 88418), NiO (ICSD 9866) e CuO (ICSD 87125) para os sistemas estudados. Em rela??o ?s curvas de histerese, verificou-se uma depend?ncia da magnetiza??o em fun??o do teor de dopante e da temperatura de tratamento t?rmico adotada.
The magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4) and their doped compounds has received special attention due to its wide area of use, including applications in high recording media, heterogeneous catalysis, adsorption, sensors and magnetic technologies. Its structural, electrical and magnetic properties depend on the chemical composition, structure, particle size, and the replacement of cations in the sites A and/or B, which are directly influenced by the synthesis method, the conditions employed in processing these materials. In this work, ferrites of the type Mg1-xBxFe2O4 (B = Ni, Cu; x = 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1) were prepared by combustion method assisted by microwave in order to evaluate both the effect of partial substitution of Mg2+ for Ni2+ and/or Cu2+ as thermal treatment on the magnetic properties. Precursor powders were treated at the temperatures of 600 ?C, 800 ?C and 1000 ?C with 2h level and characterized by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and refinement by the Rietveld method, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and magnetic hysteresis measurements at room temperature. According to the TG curves of the precursor powders, a similar behavior was observed for both systems where the total mass loss process occurred in two stages and in the temperature range between 30 and 500 ?C for Mg1-xNixFe2O4 system (x = 0, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75) and between 30 and 450 ?C for Mg1-xCuxFe2O4 system (x = 0, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75). The X-ray diffraction revealed the formation of the spinel phase MgFe2O4 (ICSD 76176) of cubic symmetry, and secondary phases such as ?-Fe2O3 (ICSD 88418), NiO (ICSD 9866) and CuO (ICSD 87125), for the studied systems. Regarding the hysteresis curves, there was a dependence of the magnetization as a function of the dopant content and the heat treatment temperature adopted. For Mg0,25Ni0,75Fe2O4 Mg0,75Cu0,25Fe2O4 and samples treated at 1000 ?C showed the highest saturation magnetization values of 41.9 emu/g and 35.76 emu/g, respectively.

A l'échelle de l'agro-écosystème, la productivité primaire est sous la dépendance du recyclage des matières organiques du sol (MOS) par l'action des organismes indigènes décomposeurs, qui minéralisent les composés organiques libérant ainsi les nutriments nécessaires à la croissance végétale. A une échelle plus globale, le recyclage des MOS détermine les flux de carbone entre le sol et l'atmosphère, avec des conséquences majeures sur la qualité de l'environnement et les changements globaux. Malgré le rôle central des microorganismes indigènes dans ces processus, la composante microbienne est encore mal connue et souvent considérée comme une boîte noire en termes de diversité et de fonctionnalité. Par conséquent, pour mieux comprendre et prédire l'évolution des MOS et donc les flux de carbone (C) dans les agro-écosystèmes, il est nécessaire de mieux connaitre les populations et les mécanismes microbiens impliqués dans leur dégradation et transformation. Dans ce contexte, l'objectif de cette thèse était de progresser dans la connaissance de la réponse des communautés microbiennes telluriques à l'apport de résidus de culture. Cette réponse des communautés microbiennes a été abordée en termes de (i) succession des populations impliquées dans les processus de dégradation de ces MOF (matières organiques fraîches), (ii) lien avec leur fonction de dégradation et répercussion sur la dynamique des matières organiques, et (iii) rôle dans les processus de stockage/déstockage du carbone via les processus de " priming effect ". Différents paramètres pouvant moduler la dégradation des résidus et la dynamique des communautés ont été pris en compte : modalité d'apport des résidus (pratiques culturales), qualité biochimique des résidus (différentes espèces végétales), et température. La stratégie globale de recherche développée repose sur des expérimentations de terrain et au laboratoire impliquant différentes échelles spatiales (du microcosme de sol à la parcelle agronomique) et temporelles (du temps de génération microbien aux cycles culturaux). La réponse des communautés microbiennes à l'apport de résidus a été évaluée par l'utilisation de méthodes moléculaires permettant de caractériser sans a priori la diversité des microorganismes du sol (empreintes moléculaires, clonage/séquençage, séquençage haut débit). En parallèle, un suivi quantitatif et qualitatif de la matière organique du sol, par des méthodes de biochimie ou de spectroscopie, a été réalisé afin d'établir le lien entre la dynamique des communautés microbiennes et le devenir de la matière organique dans le sol. Les deux premiers chapitres du manuscrit portent sur des expérimentations réalisées au terrain (conditions naturelles) afin d'évaluer l'influence de la localisation des résidus (résidus de blé incorporés vs. laissés en surface ; site expérimentale INRA Mons) d'une part et d'autre part de la qualité biochimique des résidus (résidus de blé, colza et luzerne incorporés, site expérimentale INRA Epoisses) sur la dynamique des communautés microbiennes du sol. Les résultats obtenus mettent en évidence une forte influence de la localisation comme de la qualité biochimique des résidus sur les successions de populations microbiennes induites suite à l'apport. Des populations/groupes microbiens stimulés spécifiquement dans chaque modalité ont été identifiés. Les résultats de diversité ont été mis en regard des dynamiques de décomposition des résidus, afin de faire le lien entre les successions de populations et l'évolution des ressources trophiques. La troisième partie du travail correspond à une expérimentation en conditions contrôlées (microcosmes de sol) nous permettant de coupler des outils moléculaires et isotopiques (ADN-SIP) pour cibler spécifiquement les populations microbiennes activement impliquées dans la dégradation des résidus de culture - etc

Li Shang-ying is the master of literature in the late T’ang Dynasty, who is good at both poet and prose. Fan Nan Sih Liou Jia Jih and Fan Nan Sih Liou Yi Jih are his collections of parallel prose, contain over eight hundred prose of this kind. However, they have been lost during the long history. A Ch’ing Dynasty scholar Jhu He-ling tried to collect the master’s work, then other scholars such as Sui Jiong, Siu Shiu-gu, Feng Hao, Cian Jhen-luan, Cian Jhan, also made every effort to continue Jhu’s job. Finally, Yu Shu-chen and Liou Shieh-kai edited Li Shang-ying Bien Nien Jiao Ju, it contains three hundred and fifty two parallel prose of the master. This thesis is based on these parallel prose, and study the accomplishment of Li Shang-ying. 　In the first chapter the author describe the motivations, aims, field, research method and the outline of former researches, then the introduce the life of Li Shang-ying, the collection history of his work and also analyze nowadays catalogues of all collections in the second chapter. The author discuss the contents of Li Shang-ying’s parallel prose from four kinds of this style of prose, which are remonstrance, obit, epic and remembrance in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, the author analyze the character of Li Shang-ying’s parallel prose, and in the fifth chapter discuss the influence of . the master’s parallel prose to the literature circle of his time and later periods from. three aspects, which are the writing style of the late T’ang Dynasty, the classic reform movement, and the development of the parallel prose during the early Sung Dynasty. Finally, the author summarize the achievement of Li Shang-ying from scholars’ opinions to his parallel prose and the value of Fannan Sih-liu.

"望德瀾" is transliterated by English word "Wonderland." "瀾" means great wave in the dictionary. I hope that myself would be able to stand up and change in the process of artistic creation. “Wonderland” is a fictitious fantasy world. It is here that the author uses the ideas of past memory or life experience to conceive. Using the screen to record events. In addition to gaining a better understanding of the inner state of mind, the audience is invited to enter the "Wonderland" together. When viewing, they can connect with their own experiences and feel certain emotions. It can be very large or small, ordinary but truly existing emotion. This paper study the thoughts of literati painting and the simple, but full of tension depiction of the Pictorial Stone Carving. In the mean while, we also use the creative thoughts and artistic works of Tomioka Tesai, contemporary writer Natsume Soseki, and landscape master Higashiyama Hideyuki as references attempting to give a richer sense of thought and emotion. The technique of creation was transformed from single-engraved to rubbing. Although the procedure of printing was complicated and spend a lot of time, it made the works and creative ideas are closer.

The study aims to apply two different dimensions, involving the statistical graph comprehension gradation proposed by Curcio in 1987 and the statistical graph genres presented in the social curriculum design of Han Lin version, to create the social curriculum statistical graph comprehension achievement test for the purpose to investigate the ability of interpreting the social curriculum statistical graph performed by the elementary school sixth graders. Furthermore, the statistical graph comprehension gradation consists of reading, comparing, and interpreting the data while the statistical graph genres contain bar graphs, line graphs, circle graphs, map charts, and complex graphs. The study was a quantitative survey research, in which the participants were 513 six graders selected from twelve elementary schools in Taipei City and Taipei County. The item analysis included the items’ difficulty index, discrimination index, and critical ration. Moreover, the reliability of the whole items was presented by internal consistency Cronbachα while the expert validity and the content validity of the items was constructed by several experts. The results showed that, as to the comprehension gradation, the part the six graders performed best was reading the data, followed by comparing the data, and interpreting the data was the worst. In addition, the students’ ability to interpret the data was influenced more by comparing the data than by reading the data. As to the statistical graph genres, the genres the six graders interpreted best were the bar graphs and the line graphs, followed by the map charts, and the circle graphs along with the complex graphs were the hardest graphs for the six graders to interpret, though there was no significant difference in the two graphs. Based on the analysis of two-way ANOVA, there was a significant interaction effect between the statistical graph genres and the comprehension gradation. According to the results, the study suggests that the math teacher should thoroughly strengthen students’ basic concepts of graphs when teaching students how to read and compare the graphs; besides, the map charts are suggested to be put into the math curriculum. What is more, the social curriculum teacher should enhance the cognition of students’ inference while teaching students how to interpret the graphs. And the textbook venders are suggested to conceive various ways to present the graphs.

Based on the studies of ethnic relationship, worship community, and local society, this research aims to discuss the formation and changes of a local society, which locates at the junction of Houlong, Zaociao, and Touwu Townships. This study collects both the historical data and materials of the contemporary ritual activities of Sin-Lian Temple, and other related religious rituals via field research, document exploration and participant observation. According to the index of religious sphere and the concept of worship community, the worship spheres of Sin-Lian Temple’s Mazu, Bei-Shih’s Mazu, Heaven God, Bao-Sheng Da-Di, and Guangong are marked in this study. First, this study discusses the chronological transformation and the current renovation of Sin-Lian Temple itself. The unique worship pattern— abstinence from meat inside the gate of this Buddhist Temple, yet restriction-free outside the gate—attracts Buddhists, maintains the tradition of folk beliefs and develops its own Wang Zhao-Jun belief. The dynamic feature of Mazu Pilgrimage connects Sin-Lian Temple to other folk gods and therefore to the local society. Furthermore, this study discovers the characteristics of the folk gods, including growth, collision, integration, and expansion, which reflect and are able to be traced back to the history of the local society formed by Guangdong and Fujian immigrants. On the other hand, the worship community highly influences the magnitude of the religious sphere; therefore, the community compels the reconstruction of the local society.

Han Sin, was a person of talent in the initial stage of Han dynasty, but he was executed by Queen Lyu and Prime Minister Siao He. Although he was accused of an armed rebellion, he is still considered a sage by later generations after he died. To commemorating him, the state and nation founded memorial temples in several locations in China. In the Chinese history, Han Sin was a renowned strategist and god of war, but he actually turned into the god of wealth in Taiwan. The Taiwanese changed the Chinese anecdote that Han Sin was the ancestor of Chinese chess and shaped him into the inventor of all gambles. Why was Han Sin changed from a ghost to the god of war, and then into the god of wealth? Furthermore, why would his character have developed such significant changes in Taiwan? Besides, Han Sin almost became to the multi-purpose god in the Taichung Bao Lin Temple. There are two primary gods, Avalokiteshvara and Han Cian Suei. However, what is the relation between Avalokiteshvara and Han Cian Suei, and why does it have those developments in the Taichung Bao Lin Temple history? Is it possible to find the rule of Han Sin worship development? Is this a special example of Han Sin worship in Taiwan? The environment of Taiwanese religion is unusual and different from the development of Chinese religion. After several dozens year of development, the Taiwanese folk religion has localized gradually and Han Sin worship is an obvious example. In Taiwanese folk religion, there is a notable difference not only in fable, but also in shaping the gods' character and in ritual. In this way we can observe the uniqueness of Taiwanese religion through the development of Han Sin worship.

Les systèmes sexuels et les mécanismes responsables de la détermination du sexe chez les animaux sont issus de stratégies diverses. Cette incroyable diversité se reflète notamment chez les bivalves, où autant les facteurs génétiques qu’environnementaux y jouent un rôle, avec des espèces utilisant divers modes de reproduction, tels que le gonochorisme ou l’hermaphroditisme simultané ou séquentiel. La découverte la plus notable est celle d’un système de déterminisme sexuel unique qui impliquerait les mitochondries. Spécifiquement, un système de transmission sexe-spécifique de l’ADN mitochondrial, connu sous le nom de DUI (« Double Uniparental Inheritance » ou double transmission uniparentale), serait lié au maintien du gonochorisme chez certaines espèces de bivalves. La DUI implique un ADN mitochondrial qui est transmis de façon maternelle (ADNmt F) aux femelles et aux mâles, et l’autre transmis de façon paternelle (ADNmt M) aux mâles seulement. Les ADNmt F et M chez les espèces à DUI sont caractérisés par des traits uniques, comme une modification du gène cox2, ou encore la présence de nouveaux gènes associés à chacun des génomes mitochondriaux (des gènes sexe-spécifiques) qui ont une fonction autre que la production d’énergie contrairement aux autres gènes mitochondriaux typiques. Le lien entre la DUI et la détermination du sexe étant encore flou, trois approches ont été proposées pour aider à le démystifier, chacune des approches constituant un chapitre de cette thèse. Les deux premiers chapitres se sont concentrés sur des espèces de moules d’eau douce de l’ordre des Unionida, où une corrélation entre gonochorisme et DUI et hermaphroditisme et SMI (« Strictly Maternally Inheritance » ou transmission strictement maternelle) a été décrite. La première approche consistait à produire une analyse transcriptomique comparative entre les gonades mâles et femelles de deux espèces à DUI gonochoriques, Venustaconcha ellipsiformis et Utterbackia peninsularis (famille Unionidae), pour mieux comprendre les mécanismes sous-jacents à la détermination du sexe et à la DUI chez ces bivalves. Cette étude a révélé 12 000 gènes orthologues, avec 2 583 gènes différentiellement exprimés chez les deux espèces, dont les gènes Sry, Dmrt1 et Foxl2 connus pour être des éléments clés dans la détermination du sexe chez les vertébrés et d’autres bivalves. Nos résultats ont aussi été comparés avec d’autres espèces à DUI, notamment avec la palourde marine Ruditapes philippinarum, pour identifier des éléments partagés entre des espèces éloignées qui pourraient être responsables de la régulation de la DUI. Globalement, ces résultats corroborent l'hypothèse selon laquelle un mécanisme d'ubiquitination modifié pourrait être responsable de la rétention de l'ADNmt paternel chez les bivalves mâles. Les analyses ont aussi révélé que la méthylation de l'ADN pourrait être impliquée dans la régulation de la DUI. Une deuxième analyse transcriptomique comparative a été réalisée afin de discerner les mécanismes sous-jacents à la détermination du sexe et à la DUI, mais cette fois-ci entre l’espèce à DUI gonochorique U. peninsularis et l’espèce proche parente à SMI hermaphrodite U. imbecillis. Cette étude a permis de supporter l’hypothèse d’une implication des mécanismes d’ubiquitination et de méthylation dans la régulation de la DUI, ainsi que de confirmer un rôle des gènes conservés liés à la détermination du sexe également chez les bivalves hermaphrodites. Nos résultats ont également révélé de nouveaux gènes candidats ayant des rôles potentiels dans la DUI, y compris des nucléases et des facteurs impliqués dans l’autophagie / mitophagie. Finalement, afin d’identifier des éléments génétiques mitochondriaux qui pourraient faire partie des mécanismes sous-jacents à la DUI et la détermination du sexe chez les bivalves, nous avons séquencé les ADNmt F et M complets de deux nouvelles espèces à DUI de deux familles de l’ordre des Venerida, Scrobicularia plana (famille Semelidae) et Limecola balthica (famille Tellinidae). En effet, la description complète des ADNmt chez les espèces à DUI a été effectuée chez plusieurs espèces de moules d’eau douce (ordre Unionoida), mais peu d’espèces l’ont été pour les ordres Mytilida et Venerida. Ces études sont essentielles pour retracer des signatures génétiques mitochondriales partagées par différentes espèces à DUI. Nos résultats ont révélé les plus grosses différences de taille (>10kb) et de divergence nucléotidique (jusqu’à 50% de divergence) entre les ADNmt M et F, parmi toutes les espèces à DUI. Ces différences de taille sont principalement dues à une immense insertion (>3.5kb) dans la séquence du gène cox2 du génome mitochondrial M, chez nos deux espèces, un trait précédemment décrit chez les moules d’eau douce. Le gène cox2 des mâles de S. plana est la plus longue séquence à travers le règne animal. Une autre fonctionnalité importante portés par les ADNmt F et M est la présence de nouveaux gènes spécifiques au sexe, comme reportée chez toutes les autres espèces à DUI jsuqu’à maintenant. Les résultats combinés de cette thèse soutiennent le partage de plusieurs éléments génétiques clés entre les espèces à DUI. De plus, un parallèle avec le système CMS (« Cytoplasmic Male Sterility » ou stérilité cytoplasmique mâle) chez les plantes, les seuls autres organismes possédant un déterminisme sexuel qui implique les mitochondries, est proposé pour expliquer le rôle de l’ADNmt dans la détermination du sexe chez les espèces de bivalves à DUI.
Sexual systems and sex determining mechanisms described among animals are extraordinarily diverses. This amazing diversity is present in bivalves where both environment and genetic factors occur, leading to, among others, gonochoric and simultaneous or sequential hermaphroditic species. The most impressive discovery is a sex-determining system that would involve mitochondria. Specifically, a unique mitochondrial DNA inheritance system, known as Doubly Uniparental Inheritance (DUI), would be related to the maintenance of gonochorism in some bivalve species. DUI involves two mitochondrial DNA lineages, one that is maternally transmitted (F mtDNA) to females and males, and the other that is transmitted paternally (M mtDNA) to males only. The F and M mtDNAs, in DUI species, are characterized by unique traits, such as a modification of the cox2 gene, or the presence of new genes associated with each of the mitochondrial genomes (sex-specific genes) that have a function other than energy production, unlike other typical mitochondrial genes. Since the link between DUI and sex determination is still unclear, three approaches have been proposed to help demystify it, with each of the approaches constituting a chapter of this thesis. The first two chapters focused on freshwater mussel species of the order Unionida, where a correlation between gonochorism and DUI and hermaphroditism and SMI (Strictly Maternally Inheritance) was described. The first approach was to produce a comparative transcriptomic analysis between the male and female gonads of two gonochoric DUI species; Venustaconcha ellipsiformis and Utterbackia peninsularis (Unionidae family), to better understand the mechanisms underlying sex determination and DUI in these bivalves. This study revealed 12,000 orthologous genes, with 2 583 genes differentially expressed in both species, including Sry, Dmrt1, and Foxl2 known to be key sex-determining genes in vertebrates and other bivalve species. Our results were also compared with other DUI species, including the marine clam Ruditapes philippinarum, to identify shared elements between distant species that may be responsible for DUI regulation. Overall, these results support the hypothesis that a modified ubiquitination mechanism may be responsible for the retention of paternal mtDNA in male bivalves. The analyzes also revealed that DNA methylation could be involved in DUI regulation. 7 A second comparative transcriptomic analysis was performed to discern the mechanisms underlying sex determination and DUI between the gonochoric DUI species, U. peninsularis, and the closely related SMI hermaphroditic species, U. imbecillis. This study supported the hypothesis of an involvement of ubiquitination and methylation mechanisms in DUI regulation, as well as confirmed a role of conserved genes related to sex determination in hermaphroditic bivalves. Our results also revealed novel candidate genes with potential roles in DUI, including nucleases and factors involved in autophagy / mitophagy mechanisms. Finally, to identify mitochondrial genetic elements that could be part of the mechanisms underlying DUI and sex determination in bivalves, we sequenced the complete F and M mtDNAs of two new DUI species, from two families of the order Venerida; Scrobicularia plana (Semelidae family) and Limecola balthica (Tellinidae family). The complete description of mtDNAs in DUI species has been carried out for several species of freshwater mussels (Unionoida order), but very few species have been described for the orders Mytilida and Venerida. Such studies are essential for tracing mitochondrial genetic signatures shared by different DUI species. Our results revealed the largest differences in size (>10kb) and nucleotide divergence (up to 50% divergence) between M and F mtDNAs, among all DUI species. These differences in size are mainly due to a huge insertion (> 3.5kb) in the cox2 gene of the M mtDNA from both species, a trait previously described in freshwater mussels. The cox2 gene in S. plana males represents the longest cox2 sequence across the animal kingdom. Another important feature of F and M mtDNAs is the presence of new sex-specific genes, as reported in all other DUI species so far. The combined results of this thesis support the sharing of several key genetic elements among DUI species. In addition, a parallel with the Cytoplasmic Male Sterility (CMS) system in plants, the only other organisms with a sex determination system that involves mitochondria, is proposed to explain the role of mtDNA in sex determination in DUI bivalve species.

Les inégalités genrées sont reliées à des trajectoires de maladies qui sont distinctes pour les hommes et les femmes. La mesure de ces inégalités est un défi, mais demeure essentielle pour mieux expliquer les différences individuelles en santé organisationnelle. L’objectif de cette étude exploratoire et rétrospective était d’investiguer les associations entre des couches s’étendant du niveau individuel (ex. rôles de genre) jusqu’au niveau macroscopique (ex. rôles de genre professionnels) en lien avec la charge allostatique (23 biomarqueurs), le stress au travail (demandes-contrôle-soutien, déséquilibre efforts-récompenses) et la santé mentale (dépression, d’épuisement professionnel, trauma) chez des travailleurs d’hôpital psychiatrique (N=192). Nous proposons une nouvelle approche pour mesurer les inégalités de genre dans le cadre d’analyses rétrospectives, mais qui pourrait aussi être incorporer dans de nouveaux devis expérimentaux. Nos résultats démontrent que le niveau de masculinité individuelle était associé positivement avec les demandes psychologiques et le soutien social perçu au travail. Le niveau de masculinité et de féminité associé à un emploi, quant à eux, étaient positivement associés avec le contrôle sur les tâches, ainsi que le surengagement au travail. Tant les niveaux de masculinité et de féminité individuel avaient des effets protecteurs sur les symptômes de dépression et d’épuisement professionnel, alors que seul le niveau de masculinité individuel avait des effets protecteurs sur les symptômes de trauma. Par contre, aucune association n’a été trouvée entre les rôles de genre individuel, professionnels et la charge allostatique. Au-delà des rôles de genre d’un individu, notre étude démontre l’utilité de mesurer les rôles de genre professionnels afin de mieux expliquer les associations entre le stress subjectif et ses conséquences sur la santé.
Gendered inequalities in workplace stress are linked to sex-specific health trajectories that are poorly understood. Measuring these gendered inequalities are challenging but an essential endeavor to better explain individual differences in occupational health. The aim of this exploratory, retrospective study was to investigate pathways linking layers of individual-level (e.g., sociocultural gender-roles) and macro-level (e.g., occupational gender-roles) gender factors to measures of allostatic load (23 biomarkers), workplace stress (e.g., job strain, effort-reward imbalance) and mental health (e.g., depressive symptoms, burnout symptoms, trauma symptoms) in a sample of psychiatric hospital workers (N=192). We propose a practical web-based survey approach to measure macro-level gendered occupational factors for retrospective analyses that could also be integrated in novel experimental designs. Our findings show that individual-level masculine gender-roles were positively associated with psychological demands and social support. Masculine and feminine occupational gender-roles were positively associated with decisional latitude and overcommitment. Both individual masculine and feminine gender-roles had protective effects on depressive symptoms and burnout symptoms but only individual masculine gender-roles had protective effects on trauma symptoms; however occupational gender-roles had no effects on mental health. No associations were found with allostatic load. Moving beyond an individual’s gender-roles, our study demonstrates the utility of measuring occupational gender-roles to delineate challenging associations between subjective stressors and health outcomes that should be applied in analyses for future studies of sex differences in occupational health.

The experiences were examined in comparative contexts. The study finds three common features in each association: joining, volunteering, and leading. In the mixed-gender association, women also experienced a process of assimilating into membership activities. The study provides scholars and association practitioners insights into the complex blend of members’ personal and professional interests with implications for membership recruitment and retention.
