Adult skeletal muscles have remarkable regenerative capacity. Muscle regeneration occurs when muscle tissue experiences injury, causing a population of normally quiescent muscle-resident stem cells, called satellite cells, to become activated. The CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins known as C/EBPs are transcription factors belonging to the bZIP family. Previous work from our lab has identified C/EBPβ as an important negative regulator of myogenesis. C/EBPβ expression is localized to muscle satellite cells and is downregulated upon induction to differentiate, mirroring the loss of Pax7 expression

10-50% of individuals with cleft lip and palate (CLP) may undergo maxillary osteotomy in adolescence. The surgery can impact on speech including articulation, resonance and velopharyngeal function. A systematic review of the literature using levels of evidence and power calculations was undertaken. It is shown that a symmetry group acting on the minimal surfaces is isomorphic with H × H^2 — the analytic functions and the harmonic functions. lin-28 was first characterized as a developmental timing regulator in Caenorhabditis elegans. Loss of lin-28 function (lin-28(lf)) mutants skip the hypodermal cell fates specific to the 2nd larval stage. Here, we studied two aspects of lin-28 which had not yet been investigated. First, we show that lin-28(lf) mutants exhibit reduced fertility associated with abnormal somatic gonadal morphology. In particular, the abnormal spermatheca-uterine valve morphology of lin-28(lf) hermaphrodites traps embryos in the spermatheca, which disrupts ovulation and causes embryonic lethality. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (Pepc) are two important CO₂-fixation enzymes which share a similar reaction mechanism. Both operate through a lid-gated active site and have a hypothesized enol-pyruvate intermediate in their catalytic pathway. Nesta tese, mostramos que o modelo estocástico binário para expressão gênica, por um gene auto-regulado, possui solução completa. A solução dependente do tempo é escrita via expansão em termos das funções de Heun confluentes. Apresentamos um exemplo de dinâmica estocástica desse gene. The light-harvesting like (LiL) proteins are a widely spread group of proteins within photosynthetic organisms. They are membrane proteins composed of one to four transmembrane helices and – in homology to the light-harvesting complexes of algae and higher plants – at least one of these transmembrane helices contains the chlorophyll a/b-binding (CAB) domain. Opposite to the light-harvesting antenna complexes, LiL proteins are stress induced and they have been shown to be involved in protection of the photosynthetic apparatus. Abstract:

In this thesis we discuss three problems concerning the Dirichlet polynomial $P_S(s)$ of a simple group of Lie type $S$. The first problem is a conjecture of Kennet Brown: if $G$ is a finite group, then the order complex of the coset poset of $G$ is not contractible. We prove that the conjecture holds for a large class $\mathfrak{C}$ of classical groups and we show how to generalize this result to the groups whose components are in the class $\mathfrak{C}$, under some assumptions. The second problem is to determine whether the Dirichlet polynomial of a simple group is reducible or not in

Abstract:

In this paper we study local rigidity of actions of simply connected Lie groups. In particular, we apply the Nash-Moser inverse function theorem to give sufficient conditions for the action of a simply connected Lie group to be locally rigid. Let $G$ be a Lie group, $H < G$ a simply connected subgroup and $\Gamma < G$ a cocompact lattice. We apply the result for general actions of simply connected groups to obtain sufficient conditions for the action of $H$ on $\Gamma\backslash G$ by right translations to be locally rigid.
