The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases. The goal of the research in this dissertation is to design and characterize embedded passive components, interconnects, and circuits in inhomogeneous, multi-layer liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) substrates. The attenuation properties of inhomogeneous multi-layer LCP substrates were extracted up to 40 GHz. This is the first result for an inhomogeneous LCP stack-up that has been reported. CMOS System-on-Chip (SOC), the traditional means for integration, fails mixed-signal systems on two fronts; the lack of on-chip passives with high quality (Q) factors inhibits the design of completely integrated wireless circuits, and the noise coupling from digital to analog circuitry through the conductive silicon substrate degrades the performance of the analog circuits. 博士<br>元智大學<br>化學工程學系<br>93<br>Two binary liquid-crystalline composite systems were composed of (a nematogen and a discotic mesogen) and (a nematogen and a chiral dopant). The phase behaviour and optical-electro properties of two binary composites have been investigated. The former system yielded an induced SmA phase in the range of 80/20~30/70 wt.%. The layer-stacking structure of binary composite was proposed in the SmA phase. The latter system formed N* phase in the S811 content under 20 wt.%. The frusted phases, BP and TGBA*, and the SmA* phases were formed in the range 25~30% and 40~80%. T
