Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Does self-esteem protect the elderly from depression? Study with a community sample Abstract: A model of self-esteem as a mediator between age, gender and religion on depression in the elderly was tested through modeling of structural equations. The sample relied on 345 non-institutionalized elderly (65-90 years old), mostly younger than 80 years old (85.8%). Self-esteem was measured through the Rosenberg scale and depression through the items related to general depressive affect (ADG) belonging to GDS-15. Random parceling of items was used as a strategy to overcome the structural validity issues found on both constructs. The model with the mediation of self-esteem (vulnerability model) was compared to the model with mediation of ADG (scar model), which presented a better fit. Religion did not significantly predict self-esteem and age and gender only predicted self-esteem when mediated by ADG.

Abstract:
Leadership always plays an important role in the growth and performance of an organization. Changes in organizational structure, vision and leadership are inevitable in any institution. Leadership style is a special characteristic that distinguishes a leader from another and this powerful force is what pushes an employee or employees to complete a task that produces maximum results; especially in the banking sector. Survey questionnaires were used in this study as a main method for data collection. The data was analyzed by using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) Method using Lisrel software. This research has been conducted to determine the impact of using transformational, relation-oriented and transactional leadership styles and their direct effect on job Satisfaction. A total of one hundred questionnaires were distributed among SEB and Swede bank´s employees and seventy-one fully answered questionnaires were used for statistical analysis. In other words, seventy-one percent of the questionnaires were returned. The results clearly show that leadership style (Relation-oriented, Transactional, and Transformational) have a significantly positive effect on both the employer and employee’s satisfaction with the job. The results indicate that the Transformational approach ads the most contribution toward job satisfaction compared to the Transactional and Relation-oriented styles of leadership.

Ethington, Corinna A. "The robustness of LISREL estimates in structural equation models with categorical data." Diss., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, 1985. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/54504.

Full text
Abstract:
This study was an examination of the effect of type of correlation matrix on the robustness of LISREL maximum likelihood and unweighted least squares structural parameter estimates for models with categorical manifest variables. Two types of correlation matrices were analyzed; one containing Pearson product-moment correlations and one containing tetrachoric, polyserial, and product-moment correlations as appropriate. Using continuous variables generated according to the equations defining the population model, three cases were considered by dichotomizing some of the variables with varying degrees of skewness. When Pearson product-moment correlations were used to estimate associations involving dichotomous variables, the structural parameter estimates were biased when skewness was present in the dichotomous variables. Moreover, the degree of bias was consistent for both the maximum likelihood and unweighted least squares estimates. The standard errors of the estimates were found to be inflated, making significance tests unreliable. The analysis of mixed matrices produced average estimates that more closely approximated the model parameters except in the case where the dichotomous variables were skewed in opposite directions. However, since goodness-of-fit statistics and standard errors are not available in LISREL when tetrachoric and polyserial correlations are used, the unbiased estimates are not of practical significance. Until alternative computer programs are available that employ distribution-free estimation procedures that consider the skewness and kurtosis of the variables, researchers are ill-advised to employ LISREL in the estimation of structural equation models containing skewed categorical manifest variables.

Abstract:
Does subjective well-being mitigate the depression of the elderly? Study with a community sample Abstract: A structural equation model of the mediation of affects in the predictive relationships between age, gender and religion over depression in the elderly was tested in this study. The sample includes 345 elderly community members, mainly in the third age (age range 65-79, 86%), women (62.3%) and practicing catholicists (51.6%). The positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA) were operationalized through an instrument based on PANAS and depression through a portuguese translation of the GDS-15 (items related to general depressive affect; GDA). Because of structural validity problems, the parceling of the items relative to these constructs was employed. The mediation model of affects was compared with another, with the mediation of GDA, which presented a better fit to data. The relationships between religion and both the GDA and the affects was not observed. In the model with the other predictors, the relationships were only observed with the GDA mediation.

Peprah, Syvester. "On using AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH for structural equation modeling." Thesis, University of Port Elizabeth, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/279.

Abstract:
Structural Equation Modeling is a common name for the statistical analysis of Structural Equation Models. Structural Equation Models are models that specify relationships between a set of variables and can be specified by means of path diagrams. A number of Structural Equation Modeling programs have been developed. These include, amongst others, AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH. A number of studies have been published on the use of some of the applications mentioned above. They include, amongst others, Brown (1986), Waller (1993) and Kano (1997). Structural Equation Models are increasingly being used in the social, economic and behavioral sciences. More and more people are therefore making use of one or more of the Structural Equation Modeling applications on the market. This study is performed with the aim of using each of the Structural Equation Modeling applications AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH for the first time and document the experience, joy and the difficulties encountered while using them. This treatise is different from the comparisons already published in that it is based on the use of AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH to fit a Structural Equation Model for peer influences on ambition, which is specified for data obtained by Duncan, Haller and Portes (1971), by myself as a first time user of each of the programs mentioned. The impressive features as well as the difficulties encountered are listed for each application. Recommendations for possible improvements to the various applications are also proposed. Finally, recommendations for future studies on the use of Structural Equation Modeling programs are made.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to investigate the factors that determine employee’s knowledge sharing intention through the perspectives of social capital, emotion and motivation. The impacts of individual factors, namely social capital, enjoyment in and fear for knowledge sharing, sense of belonging and knowledge sharing self-efficacy on employee’s intention to share knowledge with colleagues are examined. In order to test the hypotheses regarding the relationships among aforementioned variables, data were gathered through question forms from 267 employees working at two shopping malls in a province of Turkey. First, confirmatory factor analysis was applied to data on LISREL 8.7 software. Second, the validity of the measurement model was examined and last, anticipated relationships among variables were investigated through path analysis in structural equation modelling. The results stated that fear for sharing knowledge affected intention negatively while enjoyment in sharing knowledge and knowledge sharing self-efficacy affected intention positively. Also, relational capital was not found to impact intention to share knowledge via fear and enjoyment. On the other hand, sense of belonging impacted intention merely through enjoyment in sharing knowledge.

Abstract:
The Occupational Health and Safety are factors and conditions that have a positive impact, promotes a safe and healthy working environment, and these issues among the companies give wellness to personnel, contractors, visitors and any other person in working places, and this is achieved with the help of managing risks in the workplace. In Mexico, the occupational health and safety factors have been treated individually to reduce accidents, insurance cost and increase performance of existing operations but these individual actions created confusion among Mexican manufacturing companies. The Social Prevention and Labor Secretary established a technical program in occupational health and safety management. Five steps are used to represent basic security scheme. On the other hand, the health programs deal with the identification of important alarms and the promotion of actions to eliminate them. These issues consider job environments as well as pandemic. In order to control both aspects, Mexican factories have created an Occupational Health Management System as well as a Safety Management System. The purpose of this research is to formulate a unique Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) using structural equation models (SEM) to help Mexican manufacturing companies to conduct their efforts. A survey was conducted with 14 items based on international occupational health and safety standards. This research questionnaire was applied to 32 certified manufacturing companies within Mexico. An exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis was focused. With exploratory factorial analysis we could established the three main factors and their components and these three main factors were validated using the confirmatory factorial analysis. The three factors were: health and safety focus, occupational health and safety management system, and continuous improvement. The Tucker-Lewis Index obtained is equal to 0.999 which is higher that the recommended value of 0.90. Thus, the three main factors can be considered for a structural equation model. Some of the variables considered for the OHSMS were: risk control, corrective actions, planning, audits, education and training, etc. Using LISREL, a structural equation model was created to propose a valid OHSMS model for Mexican manufacturing companies to implement and benefit from good health and safety management in their facilities.
